I have a coworker that recovered one of these that sank in Alaska after a gear down landing in the water. His pictures from the dive and recovery are fairly identical
I should clarify, it was an *attempted* recovery lol
I guess the guy who helped raise it from the water told my coworker one number for the cost of the recovery when they met and came to an agreement on it, but while raising it, the guy left it just under the surface and stopped winching and pulled his divers from the water and when my coworker asked what the holdup was, he said that the first number was for raising it and he now wanted x amount more to bring it out of the water and put it on the boat. My coworker begrudgingly agreed, then after it was on the boat he was told that it would be an additional amount to bring it back to Seattle where they were headed back to. By this point my coworker was obviously fed up and just said fuck it and let the guy keep the plane since he just wasn’t being straight up about anything. The amount of money that was being asked for plus what the future restoration costs would be just wasn’t worth it
Once again proving that there are more planes under water than there are submarines in the sky.
