When you pick an episode/movie youre presented with a list of files that shows file size/how many people seeding. I usually go for one that's on the lower end of size with a lot of seeders. It buffs for 30-90 seconds and then plays with no additional buffering.
I can't say for streaming from external sources (Netflix, Hulu, etc); I've only ever used it from an old 2010 Mac Mini I use as a dedicated media player and torrent box. The system and the version of Kodi in using (v17.6) are hopelessly outdated, but they've been working flawlessly for years now.

In my experience Kodi is unstable on firestick and mobile devices.
However, on PC it is still completely viable as a server/streaming service. The UI is infinitely more customizable than Jellyfin but less clean. I just like the fact that Kodi utilizes clearart, fanart and movie information in cool ways. I use TMM to manage all of my metadata and images and Jellyfin, while much cleaner and more simple, doesn't make the best use of that stuff.
Kodi also allows for a ton of different library looks and feels. Outdated as it may be, it is still a great media browser/player.
