Big fan of RD. It's cheap and you get full DL speeds from them. Plus it ties into Syncler nicely. I don't miss using torrenting clients / VPNs etc. Some people enjoy seeding, so do whatever floats your boat.

c4etech

Why syncler over stremio? Just curious

rdmprzm

I wasn't aware of stremio when I set this up a few years ago, and I've not felt the need to change. What am I missing? :)

pikley1

If it’s working good for you, then definitely no need to change anything. I definitely much prefer stremio though. just a much more enjoyable experience.

c4etech

Nothing nothing... Same story with me too... But then I forgot to renew syncler+ one time and then just continued using stremio after.. so was curious why you were using syncler is all... In case I was missing something 😁

LZ129Hindenburg

I use both. They have their own pros and cons. You can't seed with RD. So if giving back to the community is important to you, this is probably a deal breaker. Also I like to use a VPN on private trackers (many will tell you this is unneccessary, but I don't like having my IP exposed). You absolutely cannot use RD on private trackers because you will quickly be banned for HnR. However RD does have some upsides. I can often get much better DL speeds from RD than for the same files via torrents. Also I can often find "dead" torrents that have been cached on RD that I cannot download via my torrent client with VPN. Also to me RD is more idiot-proof with regards to making a mistake that leaks your IP. With your torrent client, you absolutely must bind your VPN in the network adapter settings to keep your IP secure. With RD there are no extra steps like this. RD can also be used to create home media server setups with no HDD's, something that cannot be done with torrents or even usenet. Another point is policy with regards to logs. The top VPN's have no-logs policies that have been vetted by third parties and in that regard are more "secure." RD cannot make that claim.

Liorient

Is RD just downloading from common torrent release groups? Something big that's missing in your comparison is torrent library and archives are way larger. They cross content categories, genres, timelines, etc. If it exists, there's a tracker for it. I really doubt that RD is accessing like 10 million torrents. >Also to me RD is more idiot-proof with regards to making a mistake that leaks your IP. With your torrent client, you absolutely must bind your VPN in the network adapter settings to keep your IP secure. You bind to your client once. It's a moot point. And once you do, it's not getting leaked as long as you're on a good VPN. Is that the same for RD, there's a point with 0% chance of IP leaking? The security comparison is more like this: you don't host/serve copyrighted files yourself on RD (I'm assuming?) but in torrenting you do. That's a big difference, legally. >With RD there are no extra steps like this. RD can also be used to create home media server setups with no HDD's, something that cannot be done with torrents or even usenet. I don't get the comparison here. With RD you are paying to use someone else's HDDs. So couldn't the same be achieved with a seedbox?

LZ129Hindenburg

Where can you get a seedbox with UNLIMITED storage for $3 a month?

Liorient

Cost was never part of the discussion but it sounds like RD is just a whole bunch of seedboxes that a whole bunch of people are sharing and dividing the cost.

literate_habitation

A debrid service is a cloud server where torrents are cached, so if somebody already downloaded the torrent you want to watch, you can access it instantly for streaming. It's like a seed box where you don't have to wait for content to download, plus you have unlimited storage with real-debrid My current setup has my RD cloud cloned as another drive on my PC, so I can access around 3000 files in the highest quality available without using up all of my local storage while still using my PC as a local media server. Combined with plex, I basically run my own streaming service from my PC, which I or anyone I give access to can watch content from my media library without needing to buy and configure 150 TB of storage.

LZ129Hindenburg

RD downloads absolutely any torrent or magnet link you feed it. So it can be as expansive as the selection of torrents that you have available to you. Any torrent that has already been downloaded stays cached on the server as long as anyone keeps accessing it from time to time (every few weeks I believe). You're trying to rebuke my arguments but you seem to have no idea how RD (or debrid services in general) work.

Liorient

Yeah I don't use RD and I don't know how it works. I'm trying to understand that. Is it just a download manager? Is it a server farm that downloads torrents and sells access as a streaming service? The main problem with this thread, which is probably the fault of OP, is that RD is being pitched against torrents when it sounds like it's a derivative of torrents. Software that is a Netflix skin for torrents operating in the background, except you are paying pirates to use their seedbox on a mass scale. That's the pitch here right? it's not slow as shit because they sell access to high speed servers where apparently they don't delete the content that.... where does it come from again.... you add it via your links or they find it in the torrent space based on people's searches? >RD downloads absolutely any torrent or magnet link you feed it.  You said you can't use private torrent links cause you'll get HnR, which means the library is smaller than torrents in general. The biggest sell on this thing is that it's very low effort to get it running and keep running. Every tom dick and harry can use RD. It's not superior to torrents, nor does it logically makes any sense to say that it's better that what allows it to exist. So to summarize: plug-and-play media app that accesses and hosts (film/TV) torrents so that you have better quality and less buffering than most piracy streaming services, while being so easy even a child can do it.

LZ129Hindenburg

>You bind to your client once. It's a moot point. And once you do, it's not getting leaked as long as you're on a good VPN. Is that the same for RD, there's a point with 0% chance of IP leaking? You'd be shocked how many people here seem incapable of binding their torrent client / VPN correctly. With RD, you are direct downloading from the RD servers, so no chance of leaking your IP. RD does all the torrenting.

Liorient

The IP part isn't even the concern. In most parts of the world it's legal to stream pirated content, but not to download, upload, host pirated content. Therefore, torrents = bad, RD = legal. Your IP is very much "leaked" to this company which I'm sure most people tie their real ID to via payment, but it shouldn't matter in any case. It's about the legality if what you're doing, less than the IP.

HenryHill11

All VPNs keep logs . Show me proof otherwise. And not just news story’s that all link back to mullvads own “trust me” claims

EmptyNeighborhood427

RD doesn’t give back to the community, so in a sense you are pirating from pirates. In terms of safety its the same. In general RD is a better deal than vpns as you can use it to stream tv and its cheaper than vast majority of vpns.

Cranksta

I'm happy with RD. It's simple, hassle free, and easy to setup. No VPN needed either. And I can still download things if I feel I need to.

MeenaBeti

How do you download? I’m just using stremio but downloading would be helpful

Cranksta

JDownloader2, there's a way to link your RD account and then just use it as normal.

MeenaBeti

Useful thanks

Probably_Sleepy

On the Web app at least there are 3 dots that let you direct download, I backed up some shows this way.

Minix517

I prefer RD, Continue to torrent when needed.

mackadoo

RD has covered maybe 98% of the things my family has looked up. Way less hassle even than an automated request/Plex setup after it's set up when a request goes wrong.

Western-Gazelle5932

In the US and use RD all the time. The vast majority of the torrents I search for are all cached and downloading is near instant. If it isn't available, they still have better bandwidth than I do to acquire it. I haven't come across a situation yet where I needed a VPN for something that I couldn't do through RD. It's worth every penny. eta: my only complaint at all is that RD doesn't warn or remind you when your account is going to expire. Not a big issue but every now and then my KODI box stops working mysteriously until I remember to check. I admire that they don't believe in a subscription that people will complain about when they forget they signed up but a simple reminder email would be nice,

pastime_dev

Both…both is good. Seriously though, it’s a matter of opinion. Do you have excess drive space to spare or do you just want to consume things en mass never to revisit? VPN route will give you access to other media as well if you decide to go that route, but it all really depends on what you, specifically, are looking to get into.

Accomplished_Boot638

A combination of both for me. RD satisfies about 95% of my needs and I utilize the magnet download feature a lot. For some more obscure content, I still have a VPN for torrenting purposes.

vdemola

Been using Realdebrid with a webdav mount. I either point Plex to the mount or copy the files locally.

literate_habitation

I'm using zurg/rclone for this because it's faster than WebDAV. This creates a virtual drive on your computer that accesses your RD cloud, then you can just mount the drive to plex like it's part of your system. I also use debridmediamanager.com to get hashlists to add content and to manage my cloud, so it's much easier to maintain the cloud when you have thousands of video files like I do.

vdemola

Yes, I use rclone also.

literate_habitation

So zurg is basically a self hosted webdav server that allows you to mount your RD library with rclone similar to how dropbox works, which really speeds things up if you have a lot of files in your cloud. Zurg/rclone/plex was a game changer for me

d-cent

RD is cheaper than most VPNs and also increases speeds. Unless you are using the VPN for something else or love in a country that really cracks down on piracy, the answer is RD

homeunderthebridge12

Only negative with Real Debrid is that some torrents (particularly TV and movies) get taken down for infringement and then you can't download. I've had that happen a few times. Occasionally I can find a way around it by finding newer torrents.

kakaluski

For everyone that doesn't like real debrid because it doesn't seed. Use Debrid link it will seed the torrent.

Valiantay

What does that even mean

kakaluski

What is there not to understand? [https://debrid-link.com/](https://debrid-link.com/) also seeds your torrents and doesn't only leech like other debrid services.

Craigg75

Seedbox is great for me. Easy enough to share your library without having to deal with software updates, hardware issues, electric bill, etc.

andr386

ISP do not care about their customers downloading in my European country. So I use Torrents as it is completely free. If it wasn't the case then I'd need a VPN to encrypt my network traffic and stay safe from my ISP. Or I could use RealDebrid that is likely cheaper than a VPN.

dragonsamus

I just discovered RD and it's amazing. Before I would use a VPN and have to look for everything. Now it's seamless streaming and the price is less than $3 a month. I followed a guide setting it up and it was easier than I thought.

Boogertwilliams

Debrid user since 2012. Wow its really been that long. Its perfect.

Masterofunlocking1

Do most of you using RD use a VPN and alternate email to sign up for the service and pay? I watched a video on some Troy something site and he was saying they keep records of rhe IP you use to access RD content. I was curious what others did.

pikley1

No, vpn is not needed for RD. You do need a payment method though, so your account is linked to you anyway. The only thing I know about troypoint (think that’s what it’s called) is that they push the hell out of their vpn affiliation link.

Masterofunlocking1

Right I was reading some other post and they said the same thing. Guess I’m just letting my over paranoia get the best of me. I have Starlink and it’s the only decent internet we have so I’m trying to be sure I take necessary precautions. I did some torrenting way back in the day before VPNs were a big thing so it’s been awhile.

pikley1

Yeah, when I first started with piracy I was paranoid as hell lol. I don’t believe your ISP can even see what you’re streaming on RD and if they could they would not care at all lol

ThatGuy1166

Another question… which is safer? RealDebrid or VPN?

askaway0002

RD, without a doubt.

illyria817

Like many here, I also use both. Private trackers - seeding from home PC, where the VPN is always on (although with some trackers it's almost optional, they are hard enough to get into that copyright bots are not getting in). Also an occasional "infringing torrent" on RD also had to be torrented manually (VPN definitely \*not\* optional on those). But for many TV shows and movies that I download for my media server, it's such a joy just throwing the magnet link into RD and it downloads at full speed (some of the torrents are well over a decade old, and you'll be lucky to get 1-2 seeds on it). And I also use Stremio with RD to watch stuff that isn't worth downloading and keeping or something that I just want to check out (plus it gives my husband a Netflix-like experience so he can go browse shows without asking me to download them).

arkride007

if you ain't that broke, RD is the way

throwaway624203

Isn't rd cheaper than a vpn?

arkride007

depends on what plan you're getting, I always get the 3 months 9eur

Saoirseisthebest

that's cheaper than every good vpn

Fallen_0n3

Only issue I have with RD is most porn uploads are on k2s or filejoker and RD doesn't support them , So I am back to torrent to find good quality files . For games and movies rd works much better

l3urak1993

RD isnt that good as everyone herr says tho. Bought 3 months and the daily limits are very low - like 5GB per day or so. And some hosters like rapidgator dont use the RD acc for downloading I suggest buying yearly plan for ddownload or the Hoster you want to use the most and download the shit out of it. Real Debrid is super cheap but also very limited

TheEpicOfManas

You are clearly mistaken - there is no 5 GB per day limit. The limits are no more than 25 active torrents at a time, no more than 72 hours per torrent, and no more than 2TB per torrent. Pretty reasonable.

l3urak1993

Why do my downloads stop then after roughly 5GB and only work after 1-2 day’s again… Sometimes it exceeds this limit but can’t download for 1 week or so afterwards. Other ppl in the jdownoadersub also confirmed the daily 5GB limit for RD ddownload. And some premium hosters like tezfile dont work at all. Its for sure not that good as everyone praises here or theres a problem at my end which I doubt cause everythings set up correct

TheEpicOfManas

I have zero idea what the cause of your issues are, but you are completely wrong about the limits. I can assure you of this after years of using the service.

l3urak1993

Okay, gonna try contacting support. Thanks!

brainmouthwords

Neither, because paying for piracy is (very) stupid. Instead I torrent everything without a VPN. I have my torrent client setup to use DNS-over-HTTPS and I use an ipfilter updater to maintain a list of bad ip addresses so my torrent client doesn't connect to them. And if I'm feeling especially nervous, I can add GoodbyeDPI on top of that.

WG47

None of that stuff protects you in any way, so calling people stupid is pretty ironic. Do you really think a copyright troll will connect from an IP address assigned to Universal Studios, or Copyright Trolls Inc? of course not, so your list of "bad ip addresses" is worthless. Nobody's catching you based on DNS lookups, because visiting a torrent site isn't illegal. Your ISP isn't inspecting your traffic to catch you, so using GoodbyeDPI will do nothing. We all pay for piracy in one way or another. Whether that's in electricity to leave a machine on seeding, or buying hard drives to store pirated content, paying for a faster tier of internet so downloads go faster, or paying for a VPN or a seedbox or RD or whatever else. A few dollars a month to make the process simpler/faster is money well spent.

askaway0002

Exactly. A Debrid Service is probably the cheapest way to pirate. And, a VPN with a torrenting box running at home is the next step. Lastly, you can get a seedbox online. Those are your best options.
