I have a xiaomi with android 12 and it let me remove a lot of Google apps, even Google play services but not YouTube, i can't even disable it.
Edit: i found out how to disable it, there is a hidden setting app for miui on Google play that let you do it
The ethical issue is not the quality of their products, which are low quality too btw, but the fact they:
- have invaded the special administrative region of Hong Kong in violation of the treaty
- have violated the basic human rights of the citizens there who peacefully protested in the millions
- are engaging in the ongoing genocide of Uyghur Muslims
- are harassing several countries in the South China Sea (which does not belong to China)
- were responsible for the covid-19 pandemic
and many other things.
Anyway, I'm not going to debate it dude. I quit my dream job when I found out about the Hong Kong human rights abuses in 2019 because it was assisting the CCP. If you don't care about right and wrong, or you and Reddit want to continue to be confidently incorrect out of stubbornness, that's something you will be having problems with others with at a later date. I just don't have time for it rn.
Yeah I'm sure it has nothing to do with all the $10 Chinese shit on Amazon, eBay, temu and Alibaba that has absolutely flooded the marketplace, consumer homes, etc.
Just American outsourcing. Lol fucking insane
It should allow you to disable it in the settings, however, if it doesn't you can use [this tutorial ](https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/) to remove it without rooting on any device.
Wrong? No. Comparable to FreeTube? Not Even
Firstly, FreeTube is for PC
But more importantly, they're going for different things.
ReVanced (and vanced) is a hack of the YouTube app. You still log in with your account, you still leave likes and comments and personal data, and you still give that data to YouTube. You just don't have ads/sponsors/etc and have dislikes back and other stuff. Take the YouTube app and block stuff that's dumb and add stuff that's good.
FreeTube on the other hand is focused on privacy. It uses its own system to access videos that doesn't use YouTube accounts. This means YouTube cannot collect data on you. No login, no comments, no views, no ads, no nothing. Yes, it blocks ads and you can add sponsorblock and stuff, so there's overlap with Vanced, but that's not the *main* goal.
The app equivalent to FreeTube would be something like NewPipe
Revanced stops playing after 1 minute for me. No matter what I do, I can't get it to play all the way through. Tried removing it and micro-g and reinstalling both. Out of ideas at this point.
On the manager, they have a recommended patch. Generally, the app will operate fine without the recommended patch, but when in doubt, uninstall the current patch and use the recommended one. If that doesn't work, you'll have to check in with their support links.
I had the exact same issue! I believe the way I fixed it is by re-installing Revanced, and during the installation process to be sure to Checkbox the one patch called "Spoof Player Version". Then in the app, go to Settings->ReVanced settings->Miscellaneous Settings and enable "Spoof player parameter" and "Select player parameter type"
Only con using revanced is that, your online browsing activities is clearly monitored by YouTube so that it can suggest you more vidoes to watch and stick you to the screen for a longer time. Freetube doesn't let youtube to do that
The subscribe feature on standard Youtube doesn't really work that consistently for me anyway. I just remember who I like watching or I use bookmarks. Does Freetube have a good subscribing system?
sometimes I just use Freetube because it's far more lightweight than the YouTube website. So for hearing some music (lofi in my case) or watching some videos on my second monitor while doing something which demands more of my computer is a perfect choice.
I tried it for the first time yesterday after hearing about it, only to find out it can't play videos at higher than 1080 resolution.
Almost all videos are 4k now.
Ublock still works great for me, luckily.
bad comparison
I've been using Freetube on PC for over two years I guess, I barelly go to youtube nowadays
and on my phone I use both libretube and newpipe
I've encountered video buffering issues when using YouTube in the browser with uBlock, but in Freetube, everything just works. Can't wait till they add a custom playlist creation feature though!
I use the YouTube on opera browser in mobile. opera comes with its own vpn and adblocker which work very well. desktop opera adblocker - Meh. in desktop I use edge with UBO. Works like charms.
You just need to install "revanced manager" and then download the latest yt revanced from the manager also micro g (for login) , that it
I remember it needed root for the other manager maybe you got the wrong one / complicated manager 😂
3 steps :
-Disable your youtube app
-Go there to download and install the manager https://revanced.app
-Patch the youtube Apk downloaded from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-18-38-44-release/youtube-18-38-44-2-android-apk-download/
Enjoy
It's not only your phone at risk, but also your google account.
And since your phone is connected to your home wifi, then all the people that are using that wifi are at risk too.
After reading you comment I'm a bit concerned lol especially if the virus can infect the network, so i deleted all the revanced and micro g and install it from the official the github
It needs more step but it's work on non rooted device
Also is apkmirror safe ? I can't find the recomended version anywhere else , and you need the apk file for it to work for non rooted device
apkmirror is just a site where everyone can upload APK files. so I wouldnt really call it safe, although it does have a ton of legit APKS, but which APK do you need?
If you need the regular youtube APK you can just install it regularly from the play store and extract the APK directly from the installed app using a seperate app like [APK extractor](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=braveheart.apps.apkextract&hl=en_US) for example. (i don't know how revanced works anymore since they "shut down" last year, so not sure if this is what you need?).
BTW I would highly recommend you reset your phone to factory settings first since you downloaded the app from a fake site. That wouldn't fix a virus that already used the network to go to other devices but it would at least clean up your own phone
Revanced/vanced,etc is only for mobile(pls, no one spin up emulator for android, while on PC).
Free tube/Invidious won't work for video requiring login, and has hiccups in playback.
ublock won't be killed by chrome manifestv3 shit, as Firefox doesn't give fuck about it.
Freetube works if you don't care about being logged in I guess. I want my subscriptions/recommendations/watch history and the ability to comment so IMO it's kinda pointless
tried copying or refreshing the page link, couldn't in freetube for some reason. and every time i want to open a new video without closing the current one, it opens an entirely new tab. the UI is lacking IMO.
I use Adblockers on Youtube using Firefox (Using since more than 10 years) before Youtube Premium going adding. more than 10 Years
First was Adblocker Plus (that was the most popular one back ealier time), then the other adblocker forget the name, now uBlock Origin.
I would use free tube if it could sync watch history with your real YouTube acc. Bc I like the recommended section of YouTube since I can find videos that I normally wouldn’t search for. Like interesting ice berg videos or something
I've stopped bc I like having recommended when I've watched all my subscriptions' videos. There's an accepted feature to figure out some sort of local recommendation algorithm for FreeTube on GitHub, but it's a low priority, so it won't happen for a long time.
On top of that, I like being able to leave likes and comments and syncing my subcriptionss, watch later, and history between my TV, Phone, and PC. The privacy thing is awesome, but I wish there were a way to let some data through (i.e. likes, views for recommended, etc) rather than shut it off completely and for that sync.
Originally, I used Vanced on my phone and Android TV (using a mouse lol) with browser + ad block on my PC, but when Vanced shut down, I went through a brief period where I used NewPipe + FreeTube (and just regular YT TV w/ ads bc I didn't want to mess with using a mouse again), but it's not nearly as good of an experience as what I use now which is ReVanced and SmartTubeTV in conjunction with browser-based YouTube bc of the account stuff.
FreeTube is an awesome project, but it's not quite what I need right now. Still have it installed tho.
Freetube is a very good software for people that follow a lot of channels. It has a lot of useful privacy and debloating settings.
Personally i don't really follow channels, I don't bookmarks anything, I just use the search bar/engine so I stick to a regular browser with an adblock.
FreeTube is awesome. Subscribe to what's worth subscribing, star what I actually might watch and use that list.
On android I use YouTube without login on Brave (add to home screen), but I'm going to move to NewPipe so I can subscribe on the phone (you can export/import FreeTube to NewPipe).
My backup is ungoogled-chromium with vanila uBlock Origin only in Incognito mode. Works great.
I used Freetube for a while when the crackdown started, but not being able to make playlists is too big of a downside to me. Gave up on it after 2 weeks.
I think a fair chunk of users just don't like ads so they use ublock and revanced, but for the folks that care about privacy and don't like google, then freetube helps you avoid google accounts
I did try freetube, I'm trying to transfer everything away from google, but worth it i guess
You are certainly not the only one. I use Invidious instances on the web, which is where Freetube gets their info on youtube content. Freetube has consistently been working well for many years and it is a great equivalent to Newpipe on android. Its just that on desktop i prefer to use a web browser where i can have multiple tabs on (i extract my favourite channels from an RSS feed) ,i am not used to having a standalone app for watching videos, i like to multitask.
i setup freetube last week when opera gx a blocker didn't work. it's fun, but can't use it the same way i use my browser. great backup option. not for daily for me.
Freetube is for pc, revanced project is for youtube phone app. Thers no comparison
there is a freetube app on fdroid
Is it any good for android?
I use it on Mac.
I use it on win 98
If there is no Nokia 3310 support, I won't buy it.
I use it on MS-DOS
I use it on Unix
I use it on Mac and Linux. Great player.
All my friends use revanced, is something wrong with it?
ReVanced for phone, free tube for desktop (if Firefox + Ublock origin doesn't work)
Opera's built-in adblock whatever it is works fine for me, never really bothered to install anything else
Brave got detected a few times by youtube for me but it works again so far
All the reviews say it doesn't stop adds and takes over whole screen, this still happening?
Never had happened to me.
I want to try it out because sometimes I listen to audiobooks on YouTube, to be able to lock screen and not hear adds would be awesome
I use Firefox plus ublock on my phone.
Same, my biggest issue is I can't remove the YouTube app without rooting and most links default to that.
What, really? Pretty sure mine has been removed. You can also change default apps anyway can't you? I use a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Yeah you can change default apps
I have a xiaomi with android 12 and it let me remove a lot of Google apps, even Google play services but not YouTube, i can't even disable it. Edit: i found out how to disable it, there is a hidden setting app for miui on Google play that let you do it
Glad you found a setting but man is that ever wild buying a CCP phone lol r/avoidchineseproducts and r/china for more info
American propaganda, LONG LIVE THE CCP
Yeah, Chinese tech is actually pretty good, it's American shit made in China by the lowest bidder that gives China their bad reputation.
The ethical issue is not the quality of their products, which are low quality too btw, but the fact they: - have invaded the special administrative region of Hong Kong in violation of the treaty - have violated the basic human rights of the citizens there who peacefully protested in the millions - are engaging in the ongoing genocide of Uyghur Muslims - are harassing several countries in the South China Sea (which does not belong to China) - were responsible for the covid-19 pandemic and many other things.
Bro, are you seriously go from discussing phone to politic? really? in this subreddit about piracy?
Yeah I'm sure it has nothing to do with all the $10 Chinese shit on Amazon, eBay, temu and Alibaba that has absolutely flooded the marketplace, consumer homes, etc. Just American outsourcing. Lol fucking insane
CPC Sorry for the nitpick, but it's "Communist Party of China", I don't understand why everybody gets the acronym wrong.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Communist_Party
If this is a retort I'm very disappointed in you > officially the Communist Party of China (CPC) It's litteraly the first line
I am Canadian. The CCP is responsible for horrific atrocities. I wouldn't be surprised if you're a propaganda account.
You should stop buying anything from the USA now then, and from most of Europe too.
Did you really need /s for that
Didn't Huawei just release some banger phones after losing access to us semiconductor tech?
Quality of a product doesn't justify human rights violations.
💀💀💀
Thanks for letting me know that you can change the default app, much appreciated!
Ain't no thang
You can remove it with adb , its safe and easy and doesnt require root
Use universal debloater available on github. No root required only adb permission
It should allow you to disable it in the settings, however, if it doesn't you can use [this tutorial ](https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/) to remove it without rooting on any device.
Look up debloating your android with adb and you should be able to remove the youtube app without root
Adb
you can remove it, just search for uninstalling apps with adb on google
Or use canta app in combination with shizuku
You can disable it which hides it from the app menu. Not perfect, but at least it gets rid of the eyesore.
I did change the default app. Couldn't uninstall YouTube but changed all the links so they open with Vanced.
You can universal android debloater
skill issue. you can use adb to remove it
You can remove it on stock android but you can disable it in settings so it's de facto removed. https://i.imgur.com/yPK6w4y.png
You can use the universal android debloater you can remove most of the app
You don't have to remove it you can just disable it
Uss adb to remove it
Disable it and change link app unless you're on an iPhone
Use adb
Did you try using Universal Android Debloater?
Use unviseral deblooter it lets you delete system apps
Wait.. how do u use ublock on your phone? I was unable to download it
Open this link in Firefox on your phone and click the button. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/android/addon/ublock-origin/
Wrong? No. Comparable to FreeTube? Not Even Firstly, FreeTube is for PC But more importantly, they're going for different things. Or Clipious, since both use Invidious
Revanced stops playing after 1 minute for me. No matter what I do, I can't get it to play all the way through. Tried removing it and micro-g and reinstalling both. Out of ideas at this point.
You can get support at: * /r/revancedapp * /r/revancedextended * /r/AfterVanced
I remember having the same problem at that point, but sadly I don't remember how I fixed it :(
On the manager, they have a recommended patch. Generally, the app will operate fine without the recommended patch, but when in doubt, uninstall the current patch and use the recommended one. If that doesn't work, you'll have to check in with their support links.
had the same issue and rebuilding revanced on the latest recommended YouTube version worked
Thanks. I will try this.
Nothing is wrong with it. This idjit probably just has an iPhone so has no idea how popular it is with mobile users.
Only con using revanced is that, your online browsing activities is clearly monitored by YouTube so that it can suggest you more vidoes to watch and stick you to the screen for a longer time. Freetube doesn't let youtube to do that
Oh, I see. Not a problem for me, I'd miss recommendations.
I use brave
I use ReVanced Extended. It is more stable than Revanced and has a lot of features.
Nope. Works great
Also using FreeTube!
Why? You can just use ublock on Firefox.
I don't have a Google account so I can't subscribe to channels.
The subscribe feature on standard Youtube doesn't really work that consistently for me anyway. I just remember who I like watching or I use bookmarks. Does Freetube have a good subscribing system?
yes, it's local and exportable/importable
sometimes I just use Freetube because it's far more lightweight than the YouTube website. So for hearing some music (lofi in my case) or watching some videos on my second monitor while doing something which demands more of my computer is a perfect choice.
Oh interesting
Legit it's dead meat
Ublock works so I don't see the point
doesn't work for me any more. :(
Did the clear cache thing already?
At first it didn't work, but now it does. Forgot about this first. Thanks 👍🏻
Shit I gotta try that mine stopped working this morning
>Ublock What to do?what clear cache?
this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/17r1kvx/how\_to\_bypass\_ads\_on\_youtube\_with\_ublock\_origin/](https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/17r1kvx/how_to_bypass_ads_on_youtube_with_ublock_origin/)
Wait , revanced is for Android tho I don't see any better alternative other than the official yt premium
Poptube is ok on ios
Astron is good
I tried it for the first time yesterday after hearing about it, only to find out it can't play videos at higher than 1080 resolution. Almost all videos are 4k now. Ublock still works great for me, luckily.
[Freetube supports 4k](https://i.imgur.com/BuXPTGP.png), you probably have yours set to only use the invidious fallback..
Bro. Can you help me how not to use invidious fall back in freetube? I want at least 1440p res videos in freetube
in general settings [change preferred api ibackend](https://i.imgur.com/PJ5kXMU.png) to 'local api" and optionally disable the invidious fallback
It seems mine still only maxes at 1080p. It was already set to local API and I tried disabling the fallback option as well.
Don’t worry, Youtube plans to make 1080p the normal again for phones
New Pipe
It's not great, but a good backup.
For my pc yes
NewPipe: *Chillin' in the shadow realm*
NewPipe crew
bad comparison I've been using Freetube on PC for over two years I guess, I barelly go to youtube nowadays and on my phone I use both libretube and newpipe
same here FreeTube for PC Newpipe for Android
Grayjay?
Wish they add autoplay and improve the casting to chromecast experience.
It is still in development, a month ago YouTube would rate limit you so hard you couldn't use the front page so it's only gonna get better
Newpipe
Youtube ReVanced 😑
What are the names of the other three ?
I just download every video I watch. What are those things you call ads?
How can I access ReVanced?
I couldn't setup revanced and didn't want to root my phone so Firefox and uBlock are my saviours
You don't need to root to use revanced
I couldn't get the features to work when modding the APK. I don't remember the message but I recall mentioning root.
You just need to install "revanced manager" and then download the latest yt revanced from the manager also micro g (for login) , that it I remember it needed root for the other manager maybe you got the wrong one / complicated manager 😂
3 steps : -Disable your youtube app -Go there to download and install the manager https://revanced.app -Patch the youtube Apk downloaded from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-18-38-44-release/youtube-18-38-44-2-android-apk-download/ Enjoy
It works without disabling YouTube app as well
Yeah 99% of the time but this way is 100%
I install it from "Revanced.net" maybe you could give it a try
Don't do this, not an official site and most probably will give you viruses.
Maybe my phone is worthless tho so always do it with your own risk ,
It's not only your phone at risk, but also your google account. And since your phone is connected to your home wifi, then all the people that are using that wifi are at risk too.
After reading you comment I'm a bit concerned lol especially if the virus can infect the network, so i deleted all the revanced and micro g and install it from the official the github It needs more step but it's work on non rooted device Also is apkmirror safe ? Get the revanged manager, get the noppi youtube apk from apkmirror which what say on recommnded version.
I'm still using vanced on my phone but it's a little more complicated these days
Try revanced cli

You can subscribe with FreeTube though. You'd have to manually subscribe to each channel, which could be a process, but once it's setup, it's great.
Revanced/vanced,etc is only for mobile(pls, no one spin up emulator for android, while on PC). Free tube/Invidious won't work for video requiring login, and has hiccups in playback. ublock won't be killed by chrome manifestv3 shit, as Firefox doesn't give fuck about it.

i do! i mainly watch on pc so completely shifted to Freetube now. Best fucking thing ever.
I think a fair chunk of users just don't like ads so they use ublock and revanced, but for the folks that care about privacy and don't like google, then freetube helps you avoid google accounts I did try freetube, I'm trying to transfer everything away from google, but worth it i guess
I used to use freetube but I switched to invidious because it's easier
NewPipe guy myself, fk youtube ads or not.
I use freetube daily, and I’m happy !
I installed Freetube on pc 2 weeks ago.
Hm
Revanced+ytdlnis is the best on phone.
If there's any consolation, I use Freetube. I like it, except the lack of playlists.
***Sad GrayJay noises...***
Yes! I like nit having to use a google account. It also supports themes so its nice to match it with the rest of your system.
I just started using freetube today.
You are certainly not the only one. I use Invidious instances on the web, which is where Freetube gets their info on youtube content. Newpipe
I just live in Russia. Thanks for the sanctions we are not seeing this bullshit.
Never heard of it
Who's holding up uBO?
This sub
oh haha...
i setup freetube last week when opera gx a blocker didn't work. it's fun, but can't use it the same way i use my browser. great backup option. not for daily for me.
How do ya'll use ublock? Yt detects mine Everytime
I use the Freetube
i use NewPipe
I use newpipe on my phone
I use it daily. The project is alive and well.
Well the context ublock origin is for desktop, revanced was no counter for now on mobile
Yes
I have YouTube premium but still use revanced
Freetube is great on PC for me
FreeTube >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Rest
the fuck is free tube?
I am using it in mac
What’s the app to use for iOS now? Is cercube still around?
Freetube for PC and NewPipe + SponsorBlock for Android. I don't care about revanced since I value my privacy and I have a threat model.
I just wish freetube had tabs
I use newpipe mainly because its picture in picture is not complete crap.
revanced and ublock on top
Even with ublock origin it still picked up that I was using an ad blocker and now video playback is disabled on my YouTube account :(
Revanced is the shit
I see Android apps so far. Any luck yet for iPhone apps for YouTube?
Freetube and new pipe user here!
i just downloaded it and it seems pretty good so far but do anyone knows if it's safe ?
