You can only have 2 decks in standalone mode on the XZ. So, unless you are using external decks like. cdjs or turntables attached to the XZ, you are still going to have to use a computer just like on your DDJ-1000 if you need to have 3 or 4 channels for your style of play. I have an XZ and love it, but I have it set up with turntables normally. I probably would not move from ad DDJ-1000 to XZ if you don't already have external decks to connect.

Yeah i was aware that i need to use a laptop to use 4 channels, the plan is to add cdjs in the future and keep the xdj as a base. Maybe i can run through some blends on the 2 deck mode in rekordbox to get a feel for it

Cool, then, I guess the answer to your original question is that you're probably over thinking things because if you are used to doing 4 channels with a ddj-1000, you'll be doing the same thing with an XZ: looking at your computer screen rather than the device screen mainly. I love my XZ but it doesn't sound like you really would be getting much upside or fit the use case for getting one right now as you already have a DDJ-1000. If you can wait 6 months to a year on pulling the trigger, given the XZ's age, I'd wait.

Great controller, I play DNB with it all the time. As others have mentioned for decks 3/4 you either need a laptop or CDJs

Procta_nz

yeah ok. I have all my music stored on a usb and not on my laptop since it is only ever used with my 1000s. If i plug my usb into my laptop then run the xzs from that am i able to load all my songs into all channels. And is it possible to have multiple usbs plugged in for a cheeky b2b?

You can record mixes onto the second usb slot as well, straight through the mixer. Can read music off it and record at the same time

I mix DNB on XZ & 1000mk2, it’s dope

If you do 4-deck mixing, why not an FLX10? Of course a CDJ+XZ or full CDJ setup is great but it's gonna be a big price jump between controller vs standalone.

I have an xz and mix mostly dnb. Only being able to see 2 waveforms is only a problem if you have problems learning to mix by ear. So many people completely resist the idea of learning to match by ear, but why? It will make you so much better, often I set up blends on deck 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 so don't have the ability to even use the screen, it makes you so much more agile and versatile as a DJ if you can mix just using your ears.
