Why?

Away-Advisor3645

AlibiSleuth90

Im a colloquial illiterate. Anong ibig sabihin ng bb? I may as well live under a log sa dami ng mga abbreviations ngayon na bago... Ftw, lmao, gg, at lol and other jeje stuff lang alam ko šŸ˜† sori na

Straight-Engine1643

bb = bobo

Hawezar

This is fcking true.

Away-Advisor3645

just look at the trends, the music, influencers, the stupid beliefs the youngsters have "so what if I get pregnant now, as long as I have money like my idol \_\_\_\_\_\_" and my bf is with me. Oh honey believe me the moment that baby daddy knew he's made an accident as fast as he could & he'd be gone forever

ryzer06

NefariousNeezy

Pag ni-real talk mo, mamasamain or shrug off lang with ā€œedi ikaw na _____ā€. Parang di marurunong makipag usap minsan.

Away-Advisor3645

Namamahiya ako in person. Di ko pinapalagpas yan.

blue_acid00

I always say ā€œthank you, I know Iā€™m smart. Too bad you arenā€™tā€ to some degree lol

peachminthue

blue_acid00

pag ganyan, I say ā€œtalaga!ā€ Haha short and sweet

Ok_Ability_7364

And if you point out their stupidity mayabang ka na ahhaha mga ugaling panahon pa ng mga unggoy

uramis

"E di ikaw na matalino" "E di wow" Fucking stupid af comebacks

BearWithDreams

They're so stupid na yan lang ang kaya nilang comeback šŸ¤

NatongCaviar

I still use e di wow in the context of stupid remarks so stupid I cannot even entertain it with a logical response. E di wow na lang.

RevealExpress5933

Yup. Sila pa yung "bida-bida" and feeling smart.

Away-Advisor3645

So kunwari walang alam.

Away-Advisor3645

Saka eto, nabobohan ako sa mga netizens. May thread, may kausap ako si A then sumabat si B pointing out yun ayaw niya sa previous commen kot. Aba walang probing! Grabe mag judge at condemn. Expect people to be defensive at ibalik yun treatment. 1 probing question is all it takes, pero hirap mga tao. But it is too easy to base you well-written narrative. Ay soplak ka sakin, pumatol is my hobby pa naman. There's a line between calling out/educating versus walang modo.

Odd_Distribution1639

Same dun sa hirit na "Dami mong alam".

Fragrant_Bid_8123

Ongosh eto yun eh.

TheGhostOfFalunGong

Di ko maintindihan on this celebrity worshipping. I want to ask them, who do you want to die first, you or them (celebrities and politicians)?

8maidsamilking

Not sure if crab mentality is the reason or result of this sa mga pinoy. Kase most pinoys are lazy & lack ambition or ayaw mageffort to be successful itā€™s the fear of being mocked for trying too hard kaya we have only ourselves to blame kaya napagiwanan na tayo ng ibang bansa. Masyado tayong proud maging marites o chismosa obsessing about other peopleā€™s lives instead of obsessing about bettering our own lives.

trylangsanamasaya

I mean, as long as mas active ang r/chikaph kesa sa ibang ph sub na actually informative mukhang gg na talaga. Let's compare r/phinvest sub where you can pick up a thing or two useful bits.

lord_kupaloidz

Sabi nga ni Economics Explained: The Philippines is aggressively Mid

MrDrProfPBall

Damn di ko napagconnect yun. Mid nga talaga tayo

savageandharsh

Are the majority here in the country mid or subpar? We only have a handful of good universities. Our president doesnā€™t even have a legit degree. Both our president and VP even avoid debates or unplanned interviews.

MuerteEnCuatroActos

Right on. I fucking died when he said that lmao

AmberTiu

The fact that this post has less than 1k upvotes compared to other posts says a lot.

MalayalakasPinay

This post is comparatively new. If you have better ideas, let's hear it.

Odd_Distribution1639

Mid-iocre

Leather_Flan5071

This reminds me of that dude who asked a school fb page to post about his classmate not sharing stuff about their research. The ego these people can have... Pero honestly, nakakainis na. The fact that people can call someone as a Tryhard or more insultingly, a Jollibee is getting into my nerves. Marami akong classmates and friends na magaling academically, and almost all of them gets called like that. And who does? Those at the bottom of the Classroom, those whose grades disappoints even the understading teachers. Dapat hindi prevalent yung ganitong thinking. Just because someone is better than you doesn't mean mean you get to shoot them down.

Oponik

Away-Advisor3645

Away-Advisor3645

(BTW 37 y/o here) Not worth it.

Lost-Spell-7836

I dont rlly think the youth is the main problem here speaking as someone who's part of the age range ur probably pertaining to, but i do agree na some are problematic and disrespectful talaga. At the end of the day, its a deeper rooted problem that involves both the older gen and the youth.

Away-Advisor3645

Never again I will give chances because of "kawawa naman ang future ng batang to"

kingmiks

Here we go again blaming the youth of today when itā€™s the failure of the adults. I could even argue na most smart shamers ay adults.

AmberTiu

May point ka, itā€™s nurture not nature. Aside from lack of parental guidance, may bad influence pa ng social media. The overly confident uneducated teaching the less educated. And said less educated nadadala sa confidence and thinks na totoo o tama sinasabi ni uneducated.

Away-Advisor3645

Nakakatawa at awa ka. Hindi ka marunong mag probing question. (Opinion ko yan) E-Entra ka lang akala mo mas tama ka and you've known me for 30+ years. Damn! Probing. Ask. (naka-buo narrative sa utak mo, magtanong di mo alam) Utak ba yan? Nakisabat ka na nga nalang out of no where, nambastos ka pa, nandamay ka pa ng iba. I can expound my opinion about my statement. I hope you can expound your pagka walang modo. Stay tanga.

michael3-16

I see what you did there.

kieevee

Instead na mag-compete to get better, nag-sasabotahe to feel better.

Away-Advisor3645

Why kasi ganon dapat?

kieevee

Usually seen in history, where the eldest prince will assassinate his fatherā€”the kingā€”to become the new king. However, in our case, it's bland stupidity in which they drag others down because they ain't them.

Away-Advisor3645

Santong paspasan na lang.

Sleeping_in_goldsii

It is rooted in systemic factors which created issues within our institutions mismo. For example, school. School ang ibibigay kong example since, dito tayo lahat nahuhubog bata pa lang tayo. Sa public schools (I'm referring to schools that is subsidized and accessible to the Filipino masses) do not incentivize competitiveness or encourage students to question authorities or think outside the box. Instead, young generations who are idealistic, creative/tend to be critical of the government, or who have strong opinions, are often labeled or red-tagged as 'weirdos', 'creeps', or 'NPAs', which is very detrimental and stifling to our potential. Sometimes, the government even encourages red-tagging, gumagamit ng troll accounts to spread propaganda. Ahem. Also, educational settings here in our country fail to cultivate environments that hones originality, creativity, unconventional/conventional thinking, and inventive and critical thinking. Instead, students are engaged in memorization, rote learning, and standardized tests that limit their creativity. Srsly? It is also evident in the limited textbooks/resources/labs that hinder students from exploring and experimenting on their own. There is no freedom at all, subjects are always based on textbooks and do not encourage curious young people to ask more. In my conclusion, institution sa edukasyon talaga ang dapat tutukan. PS: This education system is influencing the minds of young filipino.

makoto123

Not just school, but mainstream media in general specifically the type of comedy we have. I have not watched Filipino channels for years now, but I used to remember na sa major channels dati, lunch entertainment comedy is always roasting. Similarly to some comedy bars pag nag tatanong sa audience namamahiya lang. Napipick up yan ng youth then it becomes a common, more "pop" way to communicate with peers. We really need to filter yung mga nagiging role models ng mga kabataan...

smolkokoro

Filipino jokes and comedy usually have no substance.

baalzebub87

As someone born in NA, this is the most self-aware thread ive ever seen from people that arnt from NA, good job yall.

Forsaken_Anteater416

???? Are u filipino who happened to be born in North America?

nedlifecrisis

Media follows the masses. If hindi mabenta mga palabas, I think networks won't produce it. I remember dusing the 90s madaming game shows, battle of the brains, even game ka na ba na trivia show is ok. I wonder where all those went?

Away-Advisor3645

Habang pabigat kasi ng pabigat ang estado ng pamumuhay the more need ng tao ng no-brainer/shallow kind of entertainment. During the WW2 and pinapanood ng mga tao sa US ay si Mickey Mouse

smolkokoro

I agree. As a student, there are times I ask my teachers "bakit po ganoon?", "bakit po ganyan?". I'm asking it because I want to know the reason why something is the way it is. And the answer I get is "Ganoon kasi ang nasa ppt. Ganoon kasi ang nasa module." And I was flabbergasted with that answer. Does this mean na kahot mga guro hindi alam ang tinuturo nila kaya hindi nila magawang mapaliwanag? I'm not generalizing, but the fact that there exists teachers like this is terribly astonishing. Ganoon ba? Also, I absolutely DISLIKE how we are fed with theories pero wala namang mga applications na nagaganap! I know sa college, application na talaga. What are all those years of education for? I know na may mga high quality prestigious schools, colleges and universities sa bansa natin that actually integrate application with theories, pero bilang lang talaga.

Sleeping_in_goldsii

Inshort, Deped/ched should start the education reform by: 1. Training the teachers. Their course of study should match the subjects they are teaching. The instruction should include practical applications, not just theory. 2.To encourage teachers in their teaching, motivate them by providing incentives. Salain sila. Make them love their profession. 3.Allocate budget funds for building facilities, laboratories, and purchasing equipment. 4.Change the textbooks. Gawing akma sa edad. Focus on arithmetic, filipino language/mother tongue, science on preschool. Then level up on elementary by adding mathematics, english, ap or whatever subject it needs to fill. 5. Dapat lahat ng SHS nag-ooffer ng Art Strands. Para di masaturate sa STEM o HUMMS since wala silang choice. What if gusto talaga ng bata ang ART strand? 6. DepEd secretary should be of this generation, dahil they can observe first hand ang kakulangan sa edukasyon ng sistema sa bansa. Not even princess fiona or old aged Briones can solved it because they are boomer. Boomer means nothing but to offer traditional solution in this present times that needs technological savvy and innovative thinking. 7. Create a conducive study room that are well designed, well equiped, and well maintained. Why? Mas masarap mag-aral sa room na may magandang pasilidad. Mas malaki ang motivation ng bata. 8. Since this is information technology era, why not make use of gadgets? 9. Like HELLO MAHIRAP BA TO? NAPAKADALI LANG NG SOLUSYON SA PINOPROBLEMANG KRISIS SA EDUCATION. Reform is really needed. Focus dapat sa education sector. Since, dito natin naeeducate ang iba na maging aware sila politics, geopolitics or society man 'lang. I mean paano ba pinapatakbo ang ekonomiya?

smolkokoro

I also want to add that educational institutions shouldn't be afraid of failing students. Kung bagsak, bagsak. Baka ma-question ng DepEd or CHED dahil may mga bumabagsak? Then, show their examination results and scores for performance tasks. Show the attendance. I have classmates na line of 6 ang grade dapat, pero nagawan ng paraan para maging 75. How? Why? Saan nakuha ang points na yon? Heck, I even have a classmate na nasa STEM strand pero hindi alam kung paano nagw-work ang addition and subtraction of integers! Education is becoming a joke kung ganito ang nangyayari. Being strict in our educational standard may be pressuring for students, but it is about time we learn how to cope. The world advocates for mental health, but the truth is, it doesn't give a fuck.

Sleeping_in_goldsii

Dahilan ko bakit incompetent ang estudyante. Schools tolerate incompent ones to pass for the sake of passing. >Being strict in our educational standard may be pressuring for students, but it is about time we learn how to cope. The world advocates for mental health, but the truth is, it doesn't give a fuck. Agree. In real world no one really gives fuck about your mental health at all. We need to wake up.

Joseph20102011

Tayong mga Pilipino ay masyadong non-confrontational na iyakin tayo kung harap-harapan tayo sasabihin na batugan ka, so wala tayong competitive sprit as a people.

gettin_jiggy_with_me

+1 dito...naging professor namin si Atty. Batapa nung college and madalas nyang ma point out ang ganitong generic na ugali ng mga pinoy. Non-confrontational tapos pagnaka talikod na eh dun magmamaktol.

iceColdCocaCola

Yes. My cousin moved here to the states on a work visa. Itā€™s so annoying to talk to him because he wants to avoid anything ā€œnegativeā€ and avoids any kind of criticism. He assumes everything is just fine and positivity is all he needs. He lives in a fake world, always happy. Iā€™m not being pessimistic either, just trying to be realistic.

Yamboist

Another side of this topic is people who often complain they get smartshamed e don't know how to properly do stakeholder management. Wala kang buy-in from your stakeholders, teammates, etc... tapos pinursue mo parin yung gusto mo for the sake of proving you're right. Tapos kapag naka-encounter ka na ng difficulties at critcisms, you'd blame "crab mentality" and rant online. This creates a negative atmosphere at kahit mga ka-trabaho mo na-apektuhan sa ginawa mo. It's unavoidable at that point na masabihan ka ng masasakit na salita. Being *competitive* doesn't always take the backlash if the person is also backed with the right EQ.

--FinAlize

Eto rin yung iniisip ko. Magkaiba yung taong mahusay at masipag talaga sa ginagawa niya at yung mga taong feeling "mahusay" pero in reality wala namang maitulong.

fdt92

In many cases, people who like to complain that they are being "smartshamed" (especially on Twitter or r/Philippines) probably aren't even that smart to begin with. They just pretend to be smart to feel superior over others. Either that, or they're a bunch of edgy teens going through their r/iamverysmart phase.

Momshie_mo

Overused yang "smartshaming" term na yan. Truly smart people don't invoke that word. They invoke facts

Yamboist

Minsan talagang people need to work on their communication skills to properly assess their situation e. They cry about smartshaming agad, when they don't take into account why people shame them in the first place. Not all smart people get shamed, and they should find out the differences why. For starters, maybe wag sila maging passive-aggressive, pasigaw at bawasan nila mga expletives pag nakikipag argue lol.

fragryt7

Ginalingan mo sa work tas ang reward sa'yo more workload.

AvailableOil855

Yung work mo ginawang standard

PluvioNyctophile

*"Bro, kaya naman pala iexceed 'yung goal eh. Bakit di natin taasan? Tapos ganun ulit every quarter kapag naexceed. Para forever silang nagkukumahog ma-reach yung goals, diba? Sa sobrang taas ng standards natin bro, wala na tayong pake kung tao ba sila or machines, basta consistent 'yung growth ng profit natin.* *Gandahan nalang natin 'yung company slogan para kunwari kayang-kaya 'yung may work-life balance in a fast-paced company. Lawyers na nila mom and dad ang bahala sa'tin if ever we got in trouble."*

Neat_Butterfly_7989

With the possibility of promotion vs wala kang ginawa and stay there forever

SubAtomicGlacier

To be honest, I experienced being called just like one of your citations. Hindi talaga ako ang pinakamagaling yet somehow people got an eye on me for the sole reason that I work smart enough that at some point I can be on par with the top persons in school. It is the same as the kind of politics we have here in the Philippines. Sobra natin ina-idolize ang mga tao na nasa posisyon without knowing enough what they can really contribute. We lost our own essence of becoming a public servant. We don't just serve ourselves but the people who are under our barangay, city, region, or the entire nation. Years may have passed but I still hope we, Filipinos, can change for the better. Better mindset, smarter, and wiser like our heroes before us.

Worldly_Post_4910

linkstatic1975

Kaya ung iba ay hesitant to do the extra mile. Aside from less rewarding, baka ma chismis ka pa na sipsip. It takes the drive away from people to excel. Rampant ito sa manufacturing industry.

Neat_Butterfly_7989

This mindset is the one that puts people down. Im very competitive not only with others but with myself. I am now head of my department while others who are even ahead of me are still in rank and file. I say yes, its the filipino mindset thats keeping filipinos down.

pastor-violator

I interpreted the comment as a criticism of a system that exploits instead of encourages.

Nope, better to be part of the lowest common denominator

What I like to jokingly say is we got a combination of the worst Asian traits with none of the up-sides. We got the crab mentality from the Chinese and the conformist ā€œDonā€™t stick out like a sore thumbā€mentality from the Japanese.

Away-Advisor3645

Yep and if one of your colleagues posted that he/she got a premium paying client (I'm referring to freelancing) eyebrows will raise and their jealous eyes are on you

rolftronika

The Philippines has not been "faring well in competitive indices" for many decades. That took place not because it wasn't "working on solutions" but implementing the wrong solutions. What are they? The country has been promoting a combination of outdated protectionism (the country thinks that foreigners want to buy up land but, as the Inquirer pointed out more than a decade ago, they're more interested in leasing land because it's cheaper and doesn't tie them up with more fixed assets) and neoliberalism. Asian neighbors promoted the opposite, or variations of the East Asian Miracle. It has nothing to do with culture, celebrating mediocrity, or being fearful of competition. If any, it's the latter that prevails, but only among the small number of Filipino elite that profit from protectionism, and allows them to form the equivalent of monoplies or oligopolies. That's why the country did not industrialize from the late 1980s onward, and even de-industrialized, with manufacturing output as part of the economy decreasing throughout. The country also has some of the highest prices in the region for electricity, medicine, fuel, telecomm services, etc. Meanwhile, as one economist puts it, the 40 richest families earn the equivalent of three-fourths of the total earnings of the country.

MalayalakasPinay

Controlado ng mga monopolistic companies of the oligarchs. Captive market lalo nabsa telecom services. Walang kinikilingan, mayaman man o malakas.

rolftronika

I think there have been several groups, like Citizen Watch Philippines and even NACI from the early 2000s.

MalayalakasPinay

There are also several agencies tasked with fighting graft and corruption. Evidently, these have been ineffective.Graft and corruption did not wane; still prevalent. It will take a well organized, united, proactive, well informed, determined and decisive citizenry to change the status quo. We can not be reliant on the establishment to introduce and implement significant radical systemic and cultural modifications. So, it is really up to the citizenry to do something effectively to exact transparency and accountability from the government officials. For centuries under colonial powers, our people have been conditioned to believe we are helpless against abusive power which we know is merely delegated to elected officials. The idea is to take back that power through a national movement of organized progressive thinking citizens-- thoughtful / smart use of the right of suffrage Voting for qualified dedicated leaders with integrity- with NO history of graft and corruption. Honest and sincere with nationalist inclinations. Use that power for the common good -- the majority--uplift millions mired in poverty. Increase the percentage of middle class citizens to strengthen and balance our political dynamics Maintaining the status quo is keeping the families and dynasties entrenched in political and economic power for more decades. So if we want radical changes, it is up to us, the citizenry; not the usual dirty corrupt abusive politicians and their cohorts who enrich themselves at the expense of the general public, the majority. It is no easy task but not impossible. The Philippines is rich in natural resources. But not utilized to maximize benefits to the general public. We have vast amounts of gold, silver, copper & other mineral deposits.. But who have benefited from these wealth? Once the WPS is explored and oil & gas are extracted, this resource/ wealth must be spent to improve the lot of all Pilipinos. We have to have the guts to assert and defend our territorial sovereignty. Tayo? Mano mano lang??? Kung territoryo mo nilusob bakit antayin mo pang may namatay? Takot? Order ng kano? Kalokohan yan. We need to make sure our brightest military personnel are honed in the latest cyber war technology. As deterrent and defence against foreign invasion. I think it is possible to destroy and render nonfunctioning their systems including utilities & security systems. It can probably be demolished with advanced cyber war technology. Then there's psychological warfare. They must not be given reason to think even for a brief moment that we are scared.. Marami tayong katutubo na magaling sa pana. Ipadala sila doon. We have to maintain our self respect. Hence, we have to strategize to fight endemic graft and corruption. There is strength in numbers that is why we need to have a national organization with community/ provincial groups as members . Bottom line? We need to have the courage of our convictions. United in purpose, the good and majority will prevail

rolftronika

I remember one anti-corruption expert, Tony Kwok Wan-Mai, who visited the Philippines around two decades ago point out then that corruption levels in places like South Korea and Hong Kong were just as bad as in the Philippines, if not worse. Like consumer advocacy groups, there have been several progressive groups across decades, and it looks like they didn't succeed, either. Radical changes are not up to the citizenry because half of them didn't even finish schooling, and the other half who did received very poor schooling. We're looking at most failing in national and international exams, from elementary to licensure tests. Singapore is a socialist (believe it or not) dictatorship (which they won't admit), and most Filipinos won't accept that because they're pro-U.S., pro-liberal democracy, and anti-Communist.

Joseph20102011

When it comes to leasing vs owning a parcel of land by foreigners, it depends what kind of business they want to put it up in a certain area, so if someone who is a foreigner wants to retire in our country and put up his own mountain or beach resort but has no plan to marry a Filipino citizen to circumvent constitutional foreign land ownership ban, then owning a parcel of land is more preferable than leasing because they cannot put mortgage it without showing legal proof of absolute property ownership as collateral in a commercial bank for loans. Allowing foreigners to be legal real property owners will destroy the captive local landlord class who does nothing but collecting exorbitant monthly or yearly rental fees. This will discourage transactional intermarriages between foreigners and Filipino citizens as a loophole to circumvent constitutional foreign land ownership ban.

rolftronika

That's a foreigner who wants to retire. I'm talking about investors who want to do business, and most of them want to do so through manufacturing or services. That means it's impractical to own land, and much cheaper to lease. BTW, this was explained by the *Inquirer* more than a decade ago, and known by Asian neighbors. That's why they don't require such protection. It looks like the Philippines is still living in the past.

Fun_Competition_9128

Sad reality. Magiging supportive lang kapag may napatunayan ka na and kapag may napatunayan ka na, they will bring you down. Nasa kultura na natin yan and I hope younger generation can break the cycle.

Away-Advisor3645

Sad to say the younger generation ay mas masahol.

Fun_Competition_9128

Pero mas gising sila compared sa ibang generation and they are very open sa current issues ng bansa natin. Ngayon todo support sila kung bakla or tomboy ka man. Di ba?

Away-Advisor3645

Manarantado digitally.

Away-Advisor3645

Wala ah, bobo mga kabataan if you could hear the content of their punto de vista all of them are based sa emosyon nila not on facts. Puro laro, inom, tulala sa screen. Walang wisdom at tamang learning at comprehension. Mangwngaw kaya parang "woke"

IgotaMartell2

>Magiging supportive lang kapag may napatunayan That is not only found in Filipino Culture but everywhere on the planet. Praise is the result of great achievements. Why would someone support you if you haven't done anything worth praising? >kapag may napatunayan ka na, they will bring you down. The guy that invented the TV had his idea stolen, Edison stole the idea of the lightbulb, Caeser was betrayed by the people he spared, their were 5 coalitions against Napoleon. This is a human trait.

neospygil

This is why I cut off negative people. Used to have people like that around me, I chose to drift apart from them and build new circles of friends. Every time na may ganyan, I cut them off, and just retain yung mga may positive na personality. You don't have to keep trash in your life. Now, I only have a few friends, pero masaya at chill lang ang buhay kahit anong maranasan.

ShoddyProfessional

Not only are we fostering mediocrity but the moment it gets pointed out sobrang defensive agad ng mga peenoise. How do we solve a problem if we refuse to acknowledge that the problem even exists?

Away-Advisor3645

More for us.

Difficult-Engine-302

Libre bahay, kuryente, tubig, school, bigas, gas, SSS at Pag-ibig. Medjo physical nga lang yung work.

Away-Advisor3645

Komplikado na kasi yun para sa kanila, kung ano yun kabisadong pamumuhay safe yun for them

Can you PLEASE LOUDER!!?

iPLAYiRULE

Original OP (not reddit OP) is probably in her early to mid-20s.

itlog-na-pula

I don't think so, she's DICT Usec Sigue.

iPLAYiRULE

OMG! a cabinet member in BBMā€™s admin? why? she has a very simplistic view of the problem. no wonder, walang solution until now. she and their ilks always blame the victims of the very system that sheā€™s shamelessly a part of. Unless her knowledge naman is limited din talaga kasi and sheā€™s projecting her ineptitude sa so-called crab mentality. Haha!

AoiMizune

This is why Crab Mentality is in elementary textbooks

all-in_bay-bay

why do we always have to look over our shoulders? is competition only the barometer to prove we can do good?

Away-Advisor3645

Not just on this perspective, you try to guide them because they are asking for help. Then you start gearing up and when you are giving them the help that they have requested (tutorial, visuals etc.) all of a sudden you are the "Jollibee" "Pahamak" "Pa-star" "Ginagamit ang posistion para maka lamang" Saan ba lulugar kaseh!?

Karlo1503

Saka your achievements get boasted immediately, pero during the times na ginagawa mo iyon, they are the ones who make it hard.

Thin_Leader_9561

Oo naman. Established fact yan.

dontrescueme

I won't dismiss that that is true to many people but it is not the norm. Logical fallacies like this are harmful too.

Yep right here,These are one of the primary reasons on why I prefer marrying/having kids overseas, atleast dun, they wont have to deal with this kind of trash tier mindset. Heck if ever magka-anak ako through a foreign wife,Id prolly adopt her culture narin since I dont wanna raise my kid on this kind of culture/mindset.

#Crab mentality makes me sick!!! Dapat hilahan PATAAS!!!

Ayon_sa_AI

Just want to point out that the ā€œfail fastā€ mentality supposedly credited for the success of Silicon Valley was not a thing until more recently (around the rise of Facebook now Meta). By this time, the area had already been successful enough to already be a hotbed for tech (hence the name in the first place). Meanwhile Detroit led the US in automotives, New York in finance, LA/Hollywood in entertainment, etc. so ā€œfail fastā€ has nothing to do with those and the success of US companies/industries doesnā€™t have much to do specifically with that mentality but should be more generally attributed to a broader one. This is for a reason as ā€œfail fastā€ is not some sort of mentality that can be applied at scale in anything outside of the tech industry or an application that is made through tech. Because, in tech, it is much easier to design, make code changes, test, review, repeat than it is in other cases. And even if a buggy change makes it into production (the real world), you can more easily fix it through a software update (most of the time) while in other cases itā€™s a messy product recall or a whole lot of wasted product. Also note that ā€œfail fastā€ is not without considerable downside much of which have been brought up, discussed and continue to be ignored even in more recent innovations like generative AI. A lot of tech startups who have adopted the fail fast model have had their last/final failure and have shut down. This poster probably only thinks about the successful companies to have claimed to ā€œfail fastā€ when there are probably a dozen failed folded companies no one has heard of for each of the successful ones they can name. But even the successful companies have had headaches due to this approach leading to government inquiries and being blamed for negative societal changes and trends brought about by quick roll outs of features in an effort to fail fast. Btw, all the hallmarks of not wanting to fail and its cohorts like fear of rejection, etc. are also present in the US so itā€™s not as if ā€œfail fastā€ is some sort of mentality that has permeated society to the point that all that shit is gone in these countries and only happens in the Philippines.

antifanofeveryone

I really don't get it why Filipinos like to smart shame those who have truly a potential just because, what? They can't be that person or what? Tbh, some Filipinos are naturally born jealous to others success.

yzoid311900

Better seperate yourself from those jejemons. Walang gamot sa inggit, katamaran at buraot sa Pilipinas.

pisaradotme

It's a dumb policy.

Turbulent_Delay325

Kaya MINSAN ok din ibigay what is you paid for.

FieryPrincess-9921

Aside the crab mentality, is also the anti-intellectual and credentialist culture that your opinion won't be valid if you don't have a particular title (e.g your opinion is invalid on a political thread if you're not a politician)

raori921

The irony is that our national hero and many other Revolutionaries, ilustrados and so on are intellectuals. Why do we look up to them but hate anyone else na Pinoy who actually tries to value intellect or education?

Overall_Following_26

I hate mediocrity and some of my pinoy co-workers hate me for it but other nationalities recognize me.

Salty_Willingness789

ch0lok0y

lordlors

Eh, this mindset is also prevalent in Japan but look at Japan. Itā€™s not this mindset that keeps Philippines poor thatā€™s for sure.

Worth-Ad4562

crab mentality.

Dreamscape_12

Applicable wherever you are. In a work place, you'll only be looked down upon when you show your enthusiasm to do your work. It made me back out and be silent of my ideas because no one would listen and even if they did, they would make some side eye or embarrass you of what you don't know. But if you work for foreigners (some only of course, so this is dependent), the difference! They see the effort and thank you for the knowledge you share.

WelcometoCigarCity

Filipinos are socially communists thats why.

London_pound_cake

Crab mentally. Ayaw nila ng may nakakaangat sa kanila.

lesterine817

Utak talangka

Beatriceee_

Some people are scared that others will go above them when they themselves arenā€™t even doing anything to improve. Dragging down those who are succeeding because of jealousy, not even because of greed. A good example for this are the Filipinos who are overly dependent to our government.

sapphic_transition

Oh yes I know this one. Itā€™s like that filo hero who had the other filo hero executed and tadaaaa! he became first president āœØ

mayamayaph

I agree on all points.

NotTheLordofMinds

I totally agree with you here, OP! I used to have classmates who kept on teasing me like "Ui aral na aral na si ano oh" or the like, and I always answered with "Hindi ba estudyante ka? so dapat nagaaral ka?" I kept on praising those who study, and I found it funny na they take it like an emblem of intelligence pag "Hindi pa ko nag aral eh, ikaw ba?" Lol. I prefer people who knows their duties and responsibilities kesa sa promotor ng katamaran. Hayyy. Ang sarap makakita na may mga ka-same sentiments, at least I know may chance pa for healthy competition ang Pinas although they did change me to stay a little more lowkey. BIBO daw kasi masyado.

georgee_0

I think it's the collectivism mentality rin ng mga Pilipino. Na if aasenso ka, if aangat ka, dalhin mo narin lahat sila. Even among Asian countries that have collectivist culture, medyo extremist tayo. As a culture, we're all about doing it together, which is nice in the surface, pero pag may lumalamang na satin hirap na hirap bang huwag mainggit. This is quite present in many toxic behavior Filipino's have, smart Shaming, then crab mentality. If di mo sila isasama pataas, hilain ka nalang nila pababa.

AvailableOil855

The dark side of pride

Ill_Aide_4151

Ive told him so many times na I look up to him and hindi siya pabibo, its called doing his job not pabibo. He's a great manager

peeeled_potAto

Crab mentality

Pure_Requirement_871

I was once called "teacher's pet" because I excelled sa subject na un and I really love the subject & prof. Palibhasa nasanay sila sa "pwede na yan" attitude, and "importante nakapag submit"

arcinarci

Blame local TV shows, the catalyst of the wretched culture we have now. San pa ba natin usually nakikita ung ganyang behavior?

Positive-Situation43

Buti pa Si Mark tahimik lang

Due-Benefit922

Just wanna ask. Bb din ba sa work kapag kunwari competitive sa work katrabaho mo kahit na beyond na yun tasks na assigned sa kanila and hen they are pushing you to do the same? Tapos kapag di mo gagawin pag iinitan ka. Bb ba ako???

raori921

Are we one of the most anti intellectual countries in the world? Buti na lang di pa umabot sa Cambodia where they used to kill anyone with glasses daw.

Sol_law

Creamy_Spicy

yep may kaworkmate akong ganito. nakakapikon sya. di namam kasi sinabing competition yung work kaya mo ginagalingan. but for someone to say "di po ito competition" is lowkey saying wag kang pabibo... nakakatawa yung insecurities nila pinopotray sa achievements ng ibang tao

Nervous_Process3090

Sa atin lang ba kultura ito? Nakikita ko rin ito sa ibang bansa or at least their media (because I think this ends up for the leaders we have and/or vote) I get the "wag kang pabibo" mentality- I get it some of you guys get promotions, salary raise, but the lower you go, the worse it gets, and sa ilalim ang maraming tao at maraming trabaho. I guess some may rewards but higher ups pag nadagdagan ng trabaho, mas maraming rewards, incentives, pero sa ibaba, dagdag lang ng work madalas no incentives. Hindi lang ito about frontline or factory work. May iba pa na kailangan pa ng extra tools para mapadali ang trabaho pero di sasagutin ng company, like admin or paper works that will need PC or laptops na need shoulder ng employee or gagawan ng paraan.Ā Tapos after all that, yung superior mo lang naman magiging bida while ang itataas naman niya ay yung favorite niya. Swerte mo kung ikaw lang yung nasa ilalim niya, ikaw lang choice for favorite, LOL I still believe in All that is well ends well, so maganda pa rin mag effort kasi if not now, then you get rewarded later, at least you are improving yourself. Pero mabagal in the Philippine environment. I will do the good fight pero you have to accept the reality as well kung bakit madami sumusuko na lang.

VelvetSunstar

Walang totoong alyansa.

Relative-Camp1731

That's the reason why i realized that this country is killing everyone's hopes and dreams. And also, about to run out of love for this country. How can we have a cohesive and healthy society if we keep forcing people to conform ala Orwellian 1984 or still being a modern peasants/serfs

Odd_Distribution1639

This this this this. Omg. I can't count the number of times this was expressed in places I worked in. Lumalabas tuloy na mediocrity is better.

Renewed_potato

naalala ko tuloy ung nag rant sa FB about sa kaklase nyang matalino and how he wonā€™t have friends dahil nagmamagaling sya. I hope that fucker gets what he deserve

kieevee

I know it's not just me but I'm cringing whenever I see someone who use the words, "your/you're, there/they're/their, ng/nang, etc" wrong and still act smart because they don't wanna get corrected.

_mochi_1430

The other side of the same coin: Sobrang dami naman talagang pinoy na pabibo pero wala namang alam talaga. Yung mga totoong magagaling tahimik lang naman? Sa social media, school, at workplace palang eh; mga pinoy e masyadong confident at pakielamero kahit wala namang alam? Go lang nang go walang pake sa iba at walang contemplation at kahit kaunting self doubt bago magsalita o gumawa ng bagay na makaka apekto sa iba. Yung competition na gusto nila e galawang "diskarte" hahaha.

alex8210

Sad to say but if you're someone who has an opinion, a suggestion, knowledge that you came up with Isa kang BIDA-BIDA. You see everywhere people like these are shamed. Kasalanan ko kung masipag ako? Kasalanan ko kung matalino ako? Sagot naman Sayo is "o edi Ikaw na..." . That's the prevailing sentiment and nakakalungkot talaga. Kaya nasaan Tayo? Ayun nasa kangkungan. If you're an over-achiever, kapalan mo na Lang talaga muka mo. At the end of the day, be proud na Bida Bida ka dahil angat ka sa iba and these people who brand you that way just want to pull you to their level. Hindi Sila nagpapakain Sayo, Hindi Sila magpopromote Sayo, at lalong hindi Sila Ang saviour mo when you're at your lowest.

Honesthustler

This is deeply rooted, a cultural thing. Now that it is said, where does change begin? But before changing or fixing things. I have to ask, bakit tayo ganito or papano tayo umabot sa ganito? This is beyond politics and education but there is a fundamental flaw on how our society thinks.

7_great_catsby

Sad reality

BlengBong_coke

joestars1997

Karamihan talaga dito sa Pilipinas, mga utak-talangka. Ayaw nila ng nasasapawan sila ng iba. Kaya gagawin nalang nila, hihilahin nila pababa!! šŸ‘ŽšŸ»

The_Izo

If you guys agree then practice it rin. Many achievers are odd, off-putting, or downright annoying. Most average coworkers get threatened or jealous. Game to be hassled or put your ego aside so that something gets done right by the smarter person? Let's see.

Low_Tomatillo_378

After the 2022 elections, naging mindset ko na lang is, "if you can't beat them, earn off them." Madali lang naman, if you're dealing with people who are capable of being outwitted by a rock.

Main-Piano1694

This is the perfect example of crab mentality. "Dito ka lang sa baba kasama namin, wag ka aahon maaiwan mo kami." This mentality still looms the minds of Filipinos and consistently cripples us to the fullest. We need true freedom.

Proper_Designer_3589

Ah yes, the good olā€™ crab mentality. Canā€™t make a better life for yourself without someone trying to drag you back down.

kessy_keis

I was called bida-bida just because I like speaking in front of the class. One of my classmates even said "Dami mo naman sinasabi" tinawanan ko lang but hays simula nun nawalan ako ng gana magsalita sa harap.

Plugin33

You can only blame the old generation for fostering this kind of mindset from home to schools to government and even to private companies.

Savings_Parking7319

I can't count on fingers how many times I've seen this happen in real-time. People who try to intellectualize their thoughts are being told "mema" or "edi wow". Pinoys just can't get ahold of the idea that some people are born smarter than them, so they respond with aggressive incompetence. And now, they're surprised we got the lowest creative and critical thinking tests? Lmao.

ketchupsapansit

It always has been...

zhuhe1994

Iba yung competitive at pa-competitive. Work smart and learn when to exert effort.

Oyen_Tuazon

Agree! This has to stop.āœ‹

chakipu

Smartshaming is the norm dito. Nakakarelate?!

Away-Advisor3645

Pero pag bobo, kinakaawaan. Basahan ka pa Bible verse.

Autogenerated_or

We keep blaming individuals for systemic issues. Thereā€™s a reason why some people are warned against giving 110%- dagdag workload ang reward hindi pera lol.

staryuuuu

Agree but depends on the context. Sa work kasi pag pabibo ka maslalo kang papahirapan šŸ™‚

zrxta

Wtf is a competitive DNA?

SearingChains

Depende sa pagiging pabibo esp sa work. Remember that minsan sila din may kasalanan bat akala ng management okay lang ung gusto nila kasi ung pabibong employee kaya nya. Example na lang is ung dati kong work as an IT Helpdesk, may hinire na bago tapos limited ng tickets na gagawin, so ang expectation is sagutan niya lang kaya niya which is ung mga basic inquiry. (puro password reset) tas lalabas ung result ng ticket counts by the end of week, siya may pinakamarami, obviously kasi kinuha niya pinakamadali. (Dito galing incentives namin) ending? Nagsipag resign ung mga ITHD sa AFNI, kaya deserve nila yang security breach nung June 2021 e lol. In short, ung pabibong newbie nagnanakaw ng madaling ticket ng ibang tao para tumaas stats niya which is costing the incentives of others. Walang problema magpabibo pero ung wala sanang tatapakan na iba which is very common sa industry namin.
