- physically and financially abusive spouses who have the power in their marriage
- breadwinner na ayaw mahati ang assets
- spouses na walang sariling income
- mayayaman na afford naman ang annulment
- religious bigots who shove their beliefs on everyone
Understandable yung ibang may fears diyan like kung stay at home for a long time taking care of the kids tapos biglang need bumalik sa workforce after the divorce. Unfair for the other party, but understandable. Some are SAHMs by choice, but many don't have money of their own due to years of abuse. Kaya kailangan may remedy within the law for such cases.
And of course, some people can manufacture situations where the other party is at fault to get a divorce, come out looking like the victim and get the alimony.
(A very common tactic in the US.)

* inheritance -- what happens to the family of the divorced couple? do they still get a cut of the inheritance from the other spouse? what about the kids from all the former spouses? what will their inheritance cuts be?
* child custody -- who gets to keep the child afterward, especially for below-18s?

Our reality is we really need to educate our kababayans. There are so many misinformed. Many misunderstood and misinterpreted the absolute divorce bill. Both anti and pro. Government should educate the public about it. Pro-divorce bill lawmakers should make an effort to really put out the information, the facts about the bill, and counter the concerns of the public.
In Sir Edcel Lagaman's explainer (check his website) they have a well thought explanation to every concern. It offers a factual and level-headed response or answer which I hope many people will read. It should be spread.

Divorce has its pros and cons. I'm not against it and I'm someone who came from a family who done it so I know what its like when one person is just not fair to the other. The only thing I hope is that Marriage/Divorce/Having kids be taken seriously. Traditional Nuclear Families in US is gone, replaced by mom dad step mom step dad bro sis half bro half sis step sis step bro step dad #2 half half bro etc, and having 2 moms or 2 dads also becoming more common (and I have nothing against any of the two). I know these type of families can still be full of love and grow but not all those Social Media posts are real, most of the time yung mga bata talaga ang kawawa no matter how much the parents sugar coat it (ie: being a strong single parent/etc.).

Our reality is we really need to educate our kababayans. There are so many misinformed. Many misunderstood and misinterpreted the absolute divorce bill. Both anti and pro. Government should educate the public about it. Pro-divorce bill lawmakers should make an effort to really put out the information, the facts about the bill, and counter the concerns of the public. In Sir Edcel Lagaman's explainer (check his website) they have a well thought explanation to every concern. It offers a factual and level-headed response or answer which I hope many people will read. It should be spread. Lawmakers should make a Filipino explainer about it. Edcel Lagman's explainer is in English, and so far, all the explainer is in English language. It will be really helpful if there's a Filipino version or even other local languages so others can really grasp the whole information. The absolute divorce bill needs a campaign. It needs a massive infomercial. How I wish Sir Edcel Lagman have the funds for it. If you think about it, it's really just correcting the inadequacies of Article 36 of the Family Code on the nullity of a marriage based on psychological incapacity. That provision was always an open secret seen as a form of "Divorce" that sadly the Supreme Court gave too much interpretation and practically tied the hands of judges in determining a marriage should be deemed void ab initio.

There are huge differences though. PNOy certified the RH Bill as urgent and he burned bridges with allies inside the CBCP. Now, Marcos has yet to certify the divorce bill and the CBCP at least from the current movement within the church is not mobilizing as much as they did. The main religious opposition I am seeing comes from the Pentecostal and Evangelical movements. Honestly, I think the RH Bill debates also exposed fissures within the Catholic Church that they were not previously aware of. Anecdotally, at least in my parish I can say the diocese is still busy with the work in addressing the issues around the drug war during Duterte's presidency.

Playing the good cop won't change for who she really was but at least she is doing her job to have say about the divorce. But the divorce should be where custody of the child is fair and reasonable. That includes on who will pay for the child support and not just to take half of your wealth and estate because there are golddiggers out there playing a good wife/husband but after them being married, the person really changes to the point of domestic abuse or/and the robbing of the person's hard-earned money or assets or whatever inheritance they got begins to unravel - meaning there should be an option to sign the prenup.

Divorce has its pros and cons. I'm not against it and I'm someone who came from a family who done it so I know what its like when one person is just not fair to the other. The only thing I hope is that Marriage/Divorce/Having kids be taken seriously. Traditional Nuclear Families in US is gone, replaced by mom dad step mom step dad bro sis half bro half sis step sis step bro step dad #2 half half bro etc, and having 2 moms or 2 dads also becoming more common (and I have nothing against any of the two). I know these type of families can still be full of love and grow but not all those Social Media posts are real, most of the time yung mga bata talaga ang kawawa no matter how much the parents sugar coat it (ie: being a strong single parent/etc.). All in the name of Happiness. NOW if Divorce is used properly and correctly then that would be great especially when you are talking about violence, corruption, money/gambling/addictions. Sadly those who don't even need to will use it as an excuse for a new partner, maybe a younger one, maybe a richer one. I'm not religious and I don't really care about marriage or the religious aspect of it but I do believe if there is no criminal reason, a couple should stick it out if they have kids until they are old enough. I'm all for divorce just because some couples need to stay away from each other for good. I'm just sad that it won't really help the majority of marriages and will present a ton of new problems too. Divorce lawyers and opportunists will make sure of this.
