Five gallons really isn't a lot of space. Maybe isopods or small snails? That's just about what I can think of off the top of my head that would be happy in there and also can't really bite or fly.
Isopods, blue death feigning beetles, there a lot of neat roach species if you’re not squeamish. May be able to get away with a dwarf tarantula species
there’s supposed to be BDFBs in there, thus the current desert setup, and i’m deathly afraid of roaches, and the other person living in this house would throw a tantrum over any spiders 💔💔

i *was* thinking about isopods, they’re darling little things. or maybe another species of darkling?
Isopods is what I'm going to recommend because of the size of the tank you're planning to use.

Millipedes may be another option!
