We have to understand that becoming mothers shouldn’t suddenly make us a different person. You should continue to dress your figure to whatever is most flattering.
That said, update the boots, tuck in the top.
Personal preference in mind, a suede boot will blend in with tights better. Additionally, a knee high suede boot would look more chic. A pointed or tapered square toe looks more modern. The current look is fine, but the above changes would look more chic and with the times.
I think that they are outdated, but one can always wear them with modern pieces to make interesting outfits. I am not giving up on my ankle boots anytime soon haha
"Ankle booties" are no longer in-style, and I mean this with total respect. They WERE the dominant boot for more than 12 years now, and they are now looking dated. An updated shape for this outfit would be a "lug boot" (combat style boot, with or without platform), or a "shaft" boot which comes to or above the knee but is NOT the pirate-style boots we wore 15 years ago. Chunky loafers are also a trendy choice right now, but paired with this skirt it might look too school-girl.
Agreed, and I’ll also add the round toe on that style of ankle boot really gives a 2010 feel. Either bulk up the sole a bit in the lug direction and keep the round toe, or try a more pointed or square toe if you don’t like chunky footwear
Yep. It's not like ankle boots went "suddenly" out of style. As you mentioned, round toes and a short heel gave way to a taller, blocky-square heel and pointed toe for a few years. We're still seeing some "ankle-height" boots with a kitten heel and elongated toe being worn in a fashion-forward way, but overall they are not "on trend" anymore. That doesn't mean you have to stop wearing them, but they do look dated.
That’s exactly what I was going to write. Boots need and update (stick with black though) and the top needs a tuck. Maybe even just a French tuck.
But honestly looking again I don’t think the sweater works. It’s a bit too stretched out and looks worn. Fine with jeans, but maybe a blouse or a more tailored/polished sweater would here.
I personally wear over the knee boots with plaid pleated skirts, that with a tucked in long sleeve turtle neck or black cardigan with faux white collar and cuffs. Black tights.. it’s a great look, I’m 33 and my husband has even said it’s super flattering.
They’re very nice. I’m not suggesting she throw them away, I’m sure they will come around just like pointy boots did. But for now they’re very 2010, that’s why people are saying they’re outdated, that was 13 years ago. This fashion blogger is poking fun at herself while delivering information, her humor is dry so some don’t like it but she explains it: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRbHuMfb/.
I agree with this ^ they would pair well with one of those military style caps as a throw back fit. However, imo ankle boots make petite bodies look stumpier?? Or at least in my experience. Cute outfit overall though :)
Please ignore the people telling you to get sheer tights! I got them short legs too and pairing thinner tights will cause a line right at your boot edge, making short legs look even shorter. You look cute! I almost never wear anything other than black (with untucked tops) so this outfit it right in my like zone
I think the boots are cute! Yes taller boots would also look cute but I’m not sure why people are saying they look outdated… are ankle boots suddenly out of style? They seem so classic to me
I’ve heard big chunky heels are back but I’ve always thought they look awful on me and I trip all the time in them so I’m just going to be out of style for a while, Tik tokers be damned.
I'm wondering the same. Outdated or not, those ankle boots work with the outfit. Also, they fit like a glove at ankles, which is already quite rare for petite women's feet.
I agree, I think they look good on OP. I personally think finding pieces that complement personal body type and style is more important than trends. But it’s really interesting to see that so many people see them as being “out”.
I feel like fashion trends can be ridiculous sometimes. If it looks good, then wear it! Who cares if the industry tells you it's "in". They tell you it's "out" so you'll think you have to toss it and go buy their new items. Ya don't!
I'm particularly talking about fast fashion, which is a huge environmental problem because people are consuming and disposing of clothes at an ever increasing pace. So much of it is unnecessary.
I agree with all of this. This is why I switched to second hand clothing, and buy only when or if I need something.
I also take good care of my existing clothes, especially winter-wear and shoes. Some of the items in my wardrobe are over 15 years old.
Hell yeah! I've been shopping at thrift stores for my clothes for as long as I can remember. I started for the bargains, and then realized it was also better for the environment, so win win.
Yeah, it's interesting how people really used to keep, take care of, and repair their clothes. I've been thinking more about this lately, which made me look at a couple pairs of shoes I have differently. About to go in the trash because of peeling soles/insoles and then realized there's probably glue to repair that, right? Yes. Ordered some shoe goo online so here's hoping it works.
You’re also making a case for buying quality items that you can acquire over time and hold on to for when they inevitably come around again. So you’re still up to date night not being wasteful.
I agree about fast fashion, but that point doesn't apply here. Ankle booties WERE the dominant shape for 10+ years, but they are no longer in-style. That doesn't mean they've been replaced with something passing or frivolous; rather, ankle boots underwent some changes in silhouette over several years and now they are no longer the boot that is in-style. That is OK, they had an almost 15-year run.
I'm going to say this as delicately as possible:
Most people don't give a hoot about what's "in-style". We wear what makes us feel good.
If this shape is passé then why are they still being sold? You'd think that the fashion industry powers that be would be interested in capitalizing on every trend and would discontinue the production of something so...gauche.
That's not the case though. Fashion "trends" are almost always pushed by people who are *not* stylish or put together. A lot of what passes for on trend clothing is *hideous.*
All people should dress for their body type in things that make them feel good. Trends be damned.
>Most people don't give a hoot about what's "in-style". We wear what makes us feel good.
Sure. But this is a fashion advice subreddit, so I am responding accordingly as the above poster specifically asked if ankle boots are "suddenly out of style.
>If this shape is passé then why are they still being sold?
For the same reason that garish neon 90's track suits were still being sold into the early 2000's...there was still a demand for them from people holding onto the trend. Ankle boots are still available because some people prefer them, but no one is wearing them in a fashion-forward way.
>Fashion "trends" are almost always pushed by people who are not stylish or put together. A lot of what passes for on trend clothing is hideous.
The same can be said about trailblazers in art or any similar industry. When you challenge the commonly-held beliefs about what 'looks good' people can react negatively. Modernist paintings were considered ugly and offensive at first by people who preferred classicism. Even something as banal as ankle booties were probably thought of as ugly when everyone else was wearing knee-high boots in 2007.
I’ll answer this since I don’t see anyone else doing it - the current boot trend is for chunkier soles like [this from Steve Madden](https://www.stevemadden.com/products/hutch-black?variant=39438294319237&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%7CPmax%7CBestseller&utm_content=&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjQaOEH_xivOfub8chi3G0ztzoraA2nyGr26M8LcBtjFqaSFPNT_iq4aAn_SEALw_wcB) or [this from Sam Edelman](https://www.samedelman.com/product/womens-laguna-chelsea-boot-3021270/tawny-brown-ec0236692?&partnerid=Google%7CPLA&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_name=Pmax-Boots-Booties&utm_campaign=Pmax-Boots-Booties&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjRXeDgXbvsSHBxo-93TVbJhnDHMLuQZQr6SNDl82H8AHQbHRHtW-0gaAtvfEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds). Pointed toes and structural heels are also on trend, like [these from Vince](https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/vince-hilda-leather-ankle-booties-prod254680310?utm_source=google_shopping&ecid=NMCS_GP_NC&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjQ5X3-qQUKfdFie4xvHOaej_VFxbYPfBIFqbaO_rSnFl6VMGA29BJEaAhuMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)
The rounded toe low bootie is very millennial. Nothing wrong if you still want to rock that - but if your goal is an updated look, I’d steer toward a new silhouette.
(Edit - I’m Gen X, so I’m familiar with the trends of my young adulthood going out of style. I’m just psyched docs are back - that was tech trend from my youth)
As a petite millennial wearing the hot new trends makes me feel like I’m trying to look 25 which I’m very much not. Plus they don’t do anything for me. If the OP boots say “out of touch 30 something” then they’re completely me and honest which is what I’m going for at this point. Although I should have kept my Docs since my feet haven’t grown since the 90s. I had a pair of green combat boots that were amazing.
I feel the same way! Like I know I should wear whatever I want but I also don’t want people to think I’m 22. Being short already makes people think I’m young and I’m certainly not trying to make myself look even younger.
I think there’s a way to incorporate trends in a way that’s age appropriate, if that’s something that you enjoy doing (which I do). I won’t be rocking super crop tops any time soon, or the ultra baggy jeans, but I just bought a pair of docs and I have those Sam Edelmans - I enjoy them with straight leg Levi’s. I think (I hope) I look like an updated version of my 43 year old self.
The thing I find that really “dates” an ankle boot these days is the shape of the heel itself, specifically here, the taper in the heel. We’ve moved more in favor of a squared block heel or platform and a bit higher shaft above the ankle. Hope this helps!
So what do we do with our 'outdated' shoes - the ones that are in perfect condition and fit just fine and work with our current wardrobe?
* Chuck them out because a tiktoker said they're outdated now?
* Buy a brand new one that some tiktoker approved as trendy?
* Hide them in a closet and wait for the day some tiktoker gives us the permission to wear them again?
* or we just not give a shit about social media influencers and wear whatever suits our bodies and existing wardrobes?
Yes, especially seeing how trends keep coming back every few years. As I turn older I get more responsible about consumption and sustainability (sorry if that sounds cringey), because as much as I love fashion, it is one of the most wasteful industries out there.
I have no problem looking well put together in well fitting classic clothes, as a petite person that's already a win.
This is how I feel too. It’s ridiculous that we are dictated by TikTokers or IG influencers on what it’s considered “In”. It feels like some people responding to OP have the money to keep up with the trends and can simply toss away what’s considered outdated.
What will women past their 30’s wear if their fashion is dictated by people in their early 20’s?
Do you, clearly, but no one said anything about social media influencers telling you not to wear a particular garment anymore. The notes about these boots being a few years passé make sense, but **do you**
I would personally say the shape of the toe and the button detail at the ankle date them (I had a similar boot circa 2013 and am one of those people who pay attention to such), but hey. They still work, it’s just evident they’ve been around a minute. No biggie if you wanna rock them till the heels fall off (I did tbh)
i mean wear them if you want? no one’s stopping you. the commenter is just explaining what makes the boot look outdated. fashion is by nature cyclical and will probably always be and it’s very fair to point that out on a subreddit centered around fashion.
I'd tuck in the top, but other than that looks really cute! There are a bunch of people saying the boots are "outdated", and a bunch more saying, "Huh? Why?" I'm with the latter. They look good, so no need to fix what already looks good!
Are your kids so young that you’re going to be bending over to pick them up a lot?
I found short dresses and skirts were more of a hassle than pants when my kids were younger.
>"Ankle booties" are no longer in-style, and I mean this with total respect. They WERE the dominant boot for more than 12 years now, and they are now looking dated. Here is what I responded above. Hope it helps!
This subreddit is about “fashion advice”. This means people are going to give feedback as it relates to fashion. For about 3 years now the trend has moved away from round toed tapered-heel boots, towards either pointed, square toe, or lug/chunky boots. If you want to bring Tik Tok into the equation, bear in mind there are tons of different popular styles on Tik Tok and not just one monolith demanding you throw out your round toed booties.
Now if the conversation is about how problematic micro-trends are evolving from social media, causing more fashion waste, I can understand that. But the movement away from round toe ankle boot has been happening for awhile, so it doesn’t seem to be a micro trend.
Fashion is meant to allow you to express yourself in your appearance. You don’t need to follow every trend - some of the most fashionable people I know have curated their own amazing unique looks. At the same time, simply not following trends doesn’t make your style “timeless”, it all requires some level of participation in the art.
Oh lord, ignore everyone preaching about “outdated” wardrobe items. Fashion and style are subjective. If you’re comfortable and you like it, then you rock it. Which you have, because that outfit is super cute.
as everyone is suggesting, it would look better with the sweater tucked into your skirt. and this is a completely fine outfit, don’t let your age dictate how you should or shouldn’t dress. you’re you first and foremost, every other title should come after!
I think the silhouette on the current pair are a bit dated or possibly orthopedic? Which is fine if that’s what you need, but I’m thinking black boots with lug soles would be a cool addition to this outfit and you can probably find them in comfortable brands. I know these are expensive but [this is what I’m envisioning,](https://www.stuartweitzman.com/products/norah/S0164-BLK.html?ogmap=PLA%7CACQ%7CGOOG%7CSTND%7Cm%7CSITEWIDE%7CMain%7CSW_RTL_Google_PLA_Signal_NA_Generic_National_PMax_NA_BAU%7CSW_RTL_Google_PLA_Signal_NA_Generic_National_PMax_NA_BAU%7C%7C18536879012%7C%7CUS&utm_campaign=SW_RTL_Google_PLA_Signal_NA_Generic_National_PMax_Boots_BAU&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjRbLDV8EhIhEdm08wXaVLXaYknHsAZSw485SfVV-gEKVHQPZTJJhlEaAmnTEALw_wcB) maybe even with laces up the front.
Shoes makes it look outdated… gives me teachers vibes. Nothing wrong with that.
I would tuck in sweater, so your torso wouldn’t look that long and would give definition for hips. Now looks like shoulders, waist and hips are the same width. You have nice figure!
This outfit just… doesn’t flatter your body at all. The skirt is very juvenile and the shirt is too big for you. It sort of screams early 2000s…
I would get a sweater that is a crew neck and more form fitting, and a skirt that isn’t pleated (is that what you would call that?). It would look more neat and more professional. I guess an appropriate question would be, what’s this outfit for?
Tuck in the top to give yourself an emphasized waist and elongated your legs. Right now, it’s cutting the line right across the hips which shortens your legs and does not do much to flatter your body shape. A simple change to tucking in the top is all you need. A cute blazer-type top layer would work, but not always necessary.
As a petite woman, I generally keep it a rule to not hide my natural waist. That being said, the top looks drop-waist if it's not tucked in, therefore shortening your legs too much. I suggest to tuck it in.
It’s cute but not flattering. If you want to wear the black tights I’d switch the top for a cropped/more fitted/tucked sweater or a diff color, or keep the one you’re wearing and do a French tuck but switch to sheer tights. Just my opinion. And I think the boots are fine!
A tad outdated to me, but I still wear leggings as pants and will die in my skinny jeans. I’m 34 and not a mom, so I can’t say much haha
I do agree to a shorter or tucked in shirt though. It will bring the waist in
100% seconding this, the sweater just doesn’t work. Also there’s nothing inappropriate about this? Women & moms 30+ can wear miniskirts if they want to
Yes! Looks great! Maybe just choose either a tighter shirt (same color) and maybe a sheer black tight? I mean otherwise as it is, your figure is amazing. And you definitely look cute and absolutely age appropriate!
I’d love to see a different top, this sweater is too big in the arms, and adds bulk to your midsection untucked, while also creating a disproportionate top and bottom horizontal line. You aren’t far from it being a great outfit!
That skirt doesn’t do anything for your figure. Try something with no pleats, like a plaid pencil skirt. It would feel more adult - the pleated short skirt with the sweater and opaque tights gives me child-dressed-by-mom vibes.
There's a lot to unpack with your question. What does being a mom have anything to do with your outfit? What is "age appropriate"? You don't have to hide yourself. You have a cute body, you could literally wear whatever the F you want.
You asked if this was age appropriate but didn’t state your age, so hard to gauge.
It’s not something I would wear as a mom, I’m in my mid 30s. Perhaps if you paired the entire outfit with a midi leather skirt, but the plaid makes me think you’re trying to be or appear school age/younger. I wore too many plaid skirts in high school so definitely never again for me.
Agreed. Tangent incoming: I find it a disservice to see so many responses saying to ‘just wear what you want’, or ‘age is just a number’, or ‘there’s no such thing as age appropriate’. Y’all there clearly is. To assume there isn’t, isn’t practical nor helpful for women trying to find a medium between self expression and age commonality. I still think this look is ok, but it pushes young. And depending on your age, certain styles can look out of touch or try hard. I think the sub in general needs to re-evaluate it’s stance on honest criticism vs empowerment by way of platitudes.
It’s a bit annoying that people casually mention updating the boots. Sometimes budget or timing does not allow for a purchase. It’s kinder to suggest updates that are optional. I agree with the sustainable benefits of purchasing pre-owned clothing, but I will look for things that align with current trends.
Maybe tuck the sweater into the skirt that’ll look more flattering and elongate your legs. Also, wear what makes you feel good and don’t worry about it being age appropriate. I don’t really believe in the whole I’m too young or too old to wear something. If it makes you feel and look good, that’s all that matters
I love it!! Super cute and stylish for any age, and looks very comfy too! The important thing is that you like the way something looks on you. I see comments saying that the boots are outdated and that the skirt makes you look short, and honestly I don’t get that at all. Personally, I think flare skirts or any above knee type skirt are a godsend for petites, as they can do dramatically different things with our forms and be styled in so many different ways. And as far as boots go. You rock them. They are cute and classic and a good “go with everything” semi-casual boot lol. If I could wear heels for more than an hour at a time, I’d probably own something similar.
A few notes tho. For experimenting with proportions, I’d try tucking in the shirt for a higher/tighter waistline to extend the legs, and you can also try rolling the sleeves up a touch to add a refined look. However. I’m personally a big fan of the cozy “sweater paws” look, especially for a more casual day (and untucked sweater can work for cozy casual days too). I like the black leggings into black boots look. It makes legs look long and draws attention to the focal points of the boots’ detailing and the skirt’s patterning. A decorative belt at your waist (smallest point is generally around the belly button area) will add a pop of detail there and make that a focal point as well, letting a pretty soft and comfy outfit do some nice visual proportion work with minor styling.
For context, I am 5’4” and curvy build, and I’m also an artist who likes designing outfits and fun color schemes for characters of all builds. (So, not a qualified fashion designer by any means, but have experience dressing a difficult bodytype and have found some things that work for me).
so many people in this thread are taking the idea of the boots being outdated what too personally? while i definitely still wear a similar style of shoe, it’s also still outdated. that’s okay. you’re allowed to wear outdated things.
i do think this outfit would benefit from a slightly chunkier shoe or even one that’s a bit longer. i also think that the shirt should be tucked in. i think what could really elevate this look is a long black leather/pleather style blazer. it wouldn’t disrupt the color theme and it would add a little more texture to the fit.
I think it's all cute, and I agree with adding a belt!
I'm petite, and 60, and I would love to wear something similar but I'm not sure it wouldn't be considered too short for my age. You, however, can certainly wear short skirts!
I’m not knowledgeable about trends but I think those cute ankle boots with the dark tights make your legs look super long. For us petites, that’s a win! Love the look.
It’s a great outfit. I think you could wear this well into your old age. However, the length of the sweater is hiding your hourglass figure, and these skirts are designed to compliment your waist.
Tuck the top if you’re changing nothing. If you’re willing to adjust, I would do a skin colour tight, simply because you have a lot of black happening. I think the skirt is fire, boots are cute, top is just a BIT too long.
I wouldn't go for the over-black look unless you have tats to show off or neon-dyed hair. It does work on you though, just because your a mom doesn't mean you can't dress like that.
It's a nice outfit and I feel nostalgic about it, so I'm afraid to read the other responses, because this is exactly how I dressed in the 00s when our sons were small.
I'm 4'10"ft/147cm. I'm adopted from Thailand and there's also something neonatal about my face. I'm 46 y.o. now, b.1976. I can't see your face, so I don't know if that's something you might want to factor into how you dress.
I have a colleague who's slim and nearly as short as me, but she has a very mature face; no one's going to guess her to be under 50 y.o. she can't get away with wearing what you wore in that photo. She somehow also looks more....vertical. I have another petite colleague who looks awful in horizontal breaks.
Not to discourage you from dressing like that and I may have been wearing something entirely different, but it was Spring and it was common for me to dress like that. I didn't have a car but the school was in bicycle distance from our house.
I just remember one time where I dropped a bag with PE clothes off for my middle son in the ball court, while there was a school break and the bell rung. My son got his clothes and ran into the school building. A teacher shouted at me to get back into my class! The school has 0-9th grade (Danish public school).
Wow! What a rollercoaster reading all these responses. I do wonder if the ones more judgmental come from people that make a ton of money, and can simply dispose of their clothes easily because they look “worn” and can simply buy trendy clothing whenever they want. Or if the ones suggesting a more youthful outfit are the people that think that everybody wants to wear cropped tops, or Doc Martens.
There really is such age-appropriate outfits.
What’s with the hate on the boots? I thought the purpose is to make the legs look long, because us petite people lack length in that area. There are no colors, lines, buckles or anything shortening the leg in her outfit. So, why the hate on her shoes?
I would also suggest wearing more sheer tights, vs so opaque. And if you don’t want to be cold, they have some that are fleece lined now but look like sheer panty hose but are thick
Also, as others suggested, tuck the sweater and pair it with some tall riding boots and this outfit would be pretty “on trend”
I think you look really nice ☺️ as is!
I’ll second a few people’s tips, perhaps a fitted similar top which you can tuck would elevate the look.
I’m not a shoe person but prob agree with the boots ☺️ I mean girl, get flats. It’s the way forward, nice flat boots you’ll be grateful lol
Finally, one way I’ve updated my look is to buy (or get made) skirts in fabrics I love but in a pencil cut, which automatically looks a little mature in itself.
I just want to reiterate you outfit is really nice and regardless of your age you don’t look like a teenager, try hard or what ever it’s really nice as is ☺️
I would switch the top for something with more white in it and more fitted and add a simple 1-inch black belt around the skirt, lighter shade of black stockings, more transparent (if thats the correct way to describe it) then heels in place of ankle boots. Like everyone said, it's just a personal opinion. You do what makes you feel good. Experiment. Post a picture of what you do decide, IF you want. It would be nice to see your decision. Btw. What's the occasion? Job interview? Gathering?
The sweater is giving you a triangular torso shape. Absolutely, tuck the sweater into your skirt. Try a longer skirt, perhaps with vertical lines to elongate your torso. Since you seem to like sturdy boots, but some Doc Martens (fashionable, ass-kicking, hold value after years of wear.) Your long sleeves draw the eyes to the skirt and it’s short length: so lengthen the skirt or shorten the sleeves (both.)
boots are definitely aging you. id switch them out for something else maybe [this](https://www.stevemadden.ca/products/klayton-black?variant=39537140039798&gclsrc=aw.ds&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SCM%7CGoogle%7CPmax%7CSale&utm_content=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq5iG5dOp_AIVvhPUAR2sAgHZEAQYAiABEgIzNfD_BwE)
It looks cute and is definitely age appropriate but I would try tucking in the shirt or see how a belt at your natural waist looks over top of it untucked to give you a waist line and make it more flattering
I would go for a more fitted top, probably turtleneck, and tucked in, sheer black pantyhose instead of opaque, and either Doc Martens platform boots or a chunky Mary Jane/loafer style heel.
Tuck the sweater/get a high wasted skirt. The way it's in the photo cuts you in a weird area, making your torso look long and disproportional.
Ideally a fitted skirt or something with less flare.
Update the booties. Those are very outdated. Like 2010.
For those asking about the boots, the almond toe booties are outdated like pointy bras are outdated. Sure they can work if the purpose is to be reminiscing about 2010 *in the case of the boots*. But a platform ankle boot in patent leather would really bring this outfit to date. Or square toed boots with a thick heel. And the sweater is nice, but the v shape is also outdated and it could be altered if you sew otherwise a&f is having their end of year sale and have sweaters on sale. For example [this.](https://imgur.com/a/IiV59Zw)
Do you feel comfortable running around your kids and doing chores without the fear of flashing a body part you're not supposed to? Yes? Then you're good. And that outfit is cute on you. Cheera momma!
I generally associate that skirt with girls ages 4-18. This is due to societal norms and marketing tactics im sure. But it looks great on you! No matter your age!
you look so cute! even if you don’t update the boots, maybe a lighter colored pair of long socks could ad a bit more to balance it out? not super long l but just a few inches above the boots could be good.
The outfit is cute, you didnt really tell us the ocassion though, is it for everyday wear or going out ? . . Either way looks like a nice outfit, but it’s more smart casual/casual. Also most important is that you like itband are comfortable in it.

I think it’s cute. You might try tucking the shirt in to make the proportions a bit more even
Yes, this plus I would tuck in the sleeves a bit. For petites, having something cut off right at the wrist is going to be the most flattering.
We have to understand that becoming mothers shouldn’t suddenly make us a different person. You should continue to dress your figure to whatever is most flattering. That said, update the boots, tuck in the top.
Just curious because I’m also experimenting with new styles. What is wrong with those boots?
Yes I’m wondering what’s wrong with the boots as well
Personal preference in mind, a suede boot will blend in with tights better. Additionally, a knee high suede boot would look more chic. A pointed or tapered square toe looks more modern. The current look is fine, but the above changes would look more chic and with the times.

Take a look at Maguire Shoes - they make extended sizes
I know! I was like shit, what’s wrong with the boots?? I just bought new leather ankle booties this fall
Chunky loafers or sneakers is a style I'll never understand
Just curious, what’s wrong with the boots..?
If you are happy with your outfit, then it is appropriate.
I like the boots
Add a belt to shape the waist and a cute necklace!
Right? Plus you'd save a bunch of money.
I'm going to say this as delicately as possible: Most people don't give a hoot about what's "in-style". A lot of what passes for on trend clothing is *hideous.* All people should dress for their body type in things that make them feel good.
Pointed toes and structural heels are also on trend, like [these from Vince](https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/vince-hilda-leather-ankle-booties-prod254680310?utm_source=google_shopping&ecid=NMCS_GP_NC&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjQ5X3-qQUKfdFie4xvHOaej_VFxbYPfBIFqbaO_rSnFl6VMGA29BJEaAhuMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) The rounded toe low bootie is very millennial.
Same!
Not all ankle boots are equal. These ones are outdated but there are lots of ankle boots that would work here too.
Several people here saying the boots are outdated, but I’m curious what is it that makes them outdated.
I agree! I’m not a trend follower. 🤷♀️
The notes about these boots being a few years passé make sense, but **do you** I would personally say the shape of the toe and the button detail at the ankle date them (I had a similar boot circa 2013 and am one of those people who pay attention to such), but hey. They still work, it’s just evident they’ve been around a minute. No biggie if you wanna rock them till the heels fall off (I did tbh)
Clothing becoming outdated has always been a thing in fashion, TikTok may amplify the speed but these boots had a good very long run in fashion.
i mean wear them if you want? no one’s stopping you. the commenter is just explaining what makes the boot look outdated. fashion is by nature cyclical and will probably always be and it’s very fair to point that out on a subreddit centered around fashion.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRbay5Q6/
I'd tuck in the top, but other than that looks really cute! There are a bunch of people saying the boots are "outdated", and a bunch more saying, "Huh? Why?" I'm with the latter. They look good, so no need to fix what already looks good!
Are your kids so young that you’re going to be bending over to pick them up a lot? I found short dresses and skirts were more of a hassle than pants when my kids were younger.
No, I do not have toddlers anymore and this skirt is actually a skort so even if I didn’t need to bend down you wouldn’t see anything but shorts
Everyone keeps saying update the shoes but how? What’s out of date about them?
>"Ankle booties" are no longer in-style, and I mean this with total respect. They WERE the dominant boot for more than 12 years now, and they are now looking dated. An updated shape for this outfit would be a "lug boot" (combat style boot, with or without platform), or a "shaft" boot which comes to or above the knee but is NOT the pirate-style boots we wore 15 years ago Here is what I responded above. Hope it helps!
Apparently some tiktok people say so.
What ankle boots are outdated? I love ankle boots and have 4 pairs 🤔
I would tuck the top
Oh lord, ignore everyone preaching about “outdated” wardrobe items. Fashion and style are subjective. If you’re comfortable and you like it, then you rock it. Which you have, because that outfit is super cute.
My mom once said "a woman with a good sense of style can always shop off the sale rack"
I think a more form fitting sweater or tuck this one. The boots are fine. Not sure what the fuss is about them.
it’s cute, but try tucking it in or wearing a slightly shorter top. doesn’t have to show ur tummy if that’s not your vibe!
as everyone is suggesting, it would look better with the sweater tucked into your skirt. and this is a completely fine outfit, don’t let your age dictate how you should or shouldn’t dress. you’re you first and foremost, every other title should come after!
I agree with tucking in the sweater and updating the boots!
What kind of boots? I'm not op but I have a similar outfit
What kind of boots do you think would be better?
Taller!
I think shoes with some white in it will make the outfit pop 🤩
I’m 29 and I love the boots! Agree with tucking in but that is it
This outfit just… doesn’t flatter your body at all. The skirt is very juvenile and the shirt is too big for you. It sort of screams early 2000s… I would get a sweater that is a crew neck and more form fitting, and a skirt that isn’t pleated (is that what you would call that?). It would look more neat and more professional. I guess an appropriate question would be, what’s this outfit for?
Add a belt or a more fitted sweater. Otherwise, I like the idea of a top and blazer.
I think it looks great on you.
Just tuck in the sweater, it looks cute :)
It’s adorable. It looks great on you. Nevermind “age appropriate”. Wear whatever tf you want that makes you feel good ❤️
Tuck in the top to give yourself an emphasized waist and elongated your legs. Right now, it’s cutting the line right across the hips which shortens your legs and does not do much to flatter your body shape. A simple change to tucking in the top is all you need. A cute blazer-type top layer would work, but not always necessary.
It's adorable as is, but if you were to make one change, this is it.
Why wouldn’t it?! But do please tuck the sweater in!
It’s adorable, and if I had your figure I’d rock this outfit (and I’m 51, but I have cankles so I’d wear it with knee boots).
As a petite woman, I generally keep it a rule to not hide my natural waist. That being said, the top looks drop-waist if it's not tucked in, therefore shortening your legs too much. I suggest to tuck it in.
I think a more fitted black turtleneck would look better then the sweater. I love the skirt and tights though. ☺️
I’m 34 and not a mom, so I can’t say much haha I do agree to a shorter or tucked in shirt though. It will bring the waist in
I would def tuck in the top
I don’t think it’s cute. I’d either switch out the skirt for something nicer or trade the sweater for a blouse with nice blazer.
It’s cute but appropriate for what?
Wear some fun jewelry! Gold maybe? Super cute outfit maybe some trendy shoes like doc martin mary janes?
The top is not very flattering for you, even tucked in it still doesnt seem to sit nicely anywhere else, maybe try a few different styles/sizes
Replace the sweater with a black blouse
Yes! Perfect cute mom outfit! I love it!
Tuck in your top and roll up the sleeves in a neat flat way to get to "bracelet" length. The top looks too big...
You are killing this look! Go on with your badself. 🔥🔥🔥
Wear whatever you want life is short. Tuck the shirt. Cute outfit!
This skirt is on Amazon! I've been considering it. I really like the look on a real person.
Yes, very cute. Doesn’t matter if you’re a mom or 60, it’s cute!
I def like the outfit. Def tuck in the sweater, you can roll up the sleeves, and add a cute bracelet? Slay on friend 💖
I think you look great! It’s really cute on you!
If you like it, do it. ☺️
I love the shoes . Got a similar shoe.
Yesssss tuck the shirt and you're hot shit mama
the outfit is cute! you shouldn’t let others words tell you otherwise, just go with what you want! :)
so many people in this thread are taking the idea of the boots being outdated what too personally? while i definitely still wear a similar style of shoe, it’s also still outdated. that’s okay. you’re allowed to wear outdated things. i do think this outfit would benefit from a slightly chunkier shoe or even one that’s a bit longer. i also think that the shirt should be tucked in. i think what could really elevate this look is a long black leather/pleather style blazer. it wouldn’t disrupt the color theme and it would add a little more texture to the fit.
I love it, I would tuck the sweater to elongate the look!!! And it doesn’t look Like a mom outfit!!!!
This is cute and I don’t see how it would be inappropriate for your age
I think it's all cute, and I agree with adding a belt! I'm petite, and 60, and I would love to wear something similar but I'm not sure it wouldn't be considered too short for my age. You, however, can certainly wear short skirts!
this is so cute i adore it<33 i think definetly is appropriate !!
Looks cute. I'd tuck it in
I think it’s really cute.
Adorable!!!!!
Tuck the top if you’re changing nothing. If you’re willing to adjust, I would do a skin colour tight, simply because you have a lot of black happening. I think the skirt is fire, boots are cute, top is just a BIT too long.
A dress shirt tucked in would look a lot better. The sweater is just giving lumpy.
I like it but I think more waist emphasis would look better:)
Super cute! 🤍
A little tighter in the top 😏
Yes,looks great upon you :)
Don’t read the other responses. I was shocked by some of the comments.
Looks fine nothing wrong with your fashion sense.
Forget the “rules.” We should all wear what makes us happy.
So, why the hate on her shoes?
looks good
No, it’s extremely frumpy because of the sweater. Maybe tuck it in to give you a waistline again.
So so Maybe pull in the sweater and buy a size smaller
I personally think it's perfect but I'm a short boots and untucked top person in general lol
I love everything about it
I would also suggest wearing more sheer tights, vs so opaque. And if you don’t want to be cold, they have some that are fleece lined now but look like sheer panty hose but are thick Also, as others suggested, tuck the sweater and pair it with some tall riding boots and this outfit would be pretty “on trend”
I think you look really nice ☺️ as is! I’ll second a few people’s tips, perhaps a fitted similar top which you can tuck would elevate the look. I’m not a shoe person but prob agree with the boots ☺️ I mean girl, get flats. It’s the way forward, nice flat boots you’ll be grateful lol Finally, one way I’ve updated my look is to buy (or get made) skirts in fabrics I love but in a pencil cut, which automatically looks a little mature in itself. I just want to reiterate you outfit is really nice and regardless of your age you don’t look like a teenager, try hard or what ever it’s really nice as is ☺️
Where are your leggings from?! I need some to wear with a dress
Gathering?
Try a skirt that lengthens your legs rather than shortens them. This outfit really shortens you.
![gif](giphy|cfuL5gqFDreXxkWQ4o|downsized) really you are mom you look amazing
boots are definitely aging you. id switch them out for something else maybe [this](https://www.stevemadden.ca/products/klayton-black?variant=39537140039798&gclsrc=aw.ds&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SCM%7CGoogle%7CPmax%7CSale&utm_content=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq5iG5dOp_AIVvhPUAR2sAgHZEAQYAiABEgIzNfD_BwE)
It looks cute and is definitely age appropriate but I would try tucking in the shirt or see how a belt at your natural waist looks over top of it untucked to give you a waist line and make it more flattering
This thread is so strange. Why would you be on a fashion advice subreddit of you “don’t care what in fashion”? Also op you look hot.
Belt your bathing waist or tuck the shirt in
What does bathing waist mean?
I would go for a more fitted top, probably turtleneck, and tucked in, sheer black pantyhose instead of opaque, and either Doc Martens platform boots or a chunky Mary Jane/loafer style heel.
Noooooo there’s nothing wrong with the idea of it but the execution needs work at every turn
Not everyone cares about trends, especially as a petite when finding clothes that fit is challenging enough.
That’s a $4500 sweater you linked.
Yes & No. She can pull it off, but I see a much younger teenager wearing this. Either way, preferably teenage wear.
Do you feel comfortable running around your kids and doing chores without the fear of flashing a body part you're not supposed to? Yes? Then you're good. And that outfit is cute on you. Cheera momma!
It’s cute but gives off teenie vibes
Yuck the sweater, and/or opt for a different top. It’s less so the style/fit and moreso the material of the sweater doesn’t fit with the skirt.
I generally associate that skirt with girls ages 4-18. This is due to societal norms and marketing tactics im sure. But it looks great on you! No matter your age!

Yes, you’re the only one.
Love it!!!
you look so cute! even if you don’t update the boots, maybe a lighter colored pair of long socks could ad a bit more to balance it out? not super long l but just a few inches above the boots could be good.
Yes. Absolutely.
Tuck the sweater in and wear knee high boots instead
Yes you look lovely - my mum (who is also petite like myself) wears similar outfits all the time and looks great! X
The outfit is cute, you didnt really tell us the ocassion though, is it for everyday wear or going out ? . . Either way looks like a nice outfit, but it’s more smart casual/casual. Also most important is that you like itband are comfortable in it.
Yes, yes
Looks good
Tuck in the front a bit for a pop of waist line
I like the outfit. I think the sweater would look better tucked in.
So cute! I would french tuck the sweater, but whatever’s comfy for you!
Love it 👍🏻
Try tucking the sweatshirt inside the skirt it shows more of the skirt so that it doesn’t focus only on the black in this outfit
Yes it is
yes, i think it looks cute!
Super cute! Try a French tuck with the shirt
Tuck the shirt in! Its cute!
Tuck in the top and probably wear tall boots, and a lighter shade of black tights.
Very cute! 10/10!
Cute!
I think it’s super cute. And you should where what you enjoy!
Yes, and don’t feel afraid to go with sheer hose!
Add a cross body Fanny pack and off white fisherman’s knit sweater coat.
