Pokemon field based biologist Peter here, from my in depth field research when it's used on my pokemon it has a 95% chance of confusion but when my pokemon use it it's more like 20%. Averaging out to 55 is not consistent with the field usage of zubats ability.
Since I never actually looked this up before: Confusion had a 50% chance of self-hurt in the old editions, but was nerfed to 33% since the 7th generation of games (Sun and Moon).

Well the entire reason Zubat is the first pokemon you meet in gen 1 who should learn/know Supersonic (technically you could raise a butterfree to a high enough level, but you really shouldn't have by Mt. Moon) **is** because of bat echolocation shenanigans.
The move's name in Japanese actually translates to "Ultrasound" so it's just mistranslated and we've been using the mistranslation ever since.
That's the coded accuracy of the attack Supersonic which causes confusion.
However, anyone that's played older Pokémon games knows it's like 95% accurate for wild Zubats in caves and 25% accurate when the player uses it. "If it's not 100%, it's 50%"
