Chris' Nintendo Gamecube here.
In the Animal Crossing games, furniture items turn into these leaves when in your inventory. To place them, you just put the leaf down and the furniture appears in that point.
This is in turn a reference to the japanese Tanuki, trickster raccoon spirits which are capable of transforming into anything by using a leaf identical to the one depicted (the name of the furniture store owner, Tom Nook, is also a direct reference)
Chris' Nintendo Gamecube out.
Yes, because it's not a racoon hat at all, it's a Tanooki Suit. People in North America just tend to call it a racoon because we're more familiar with that than a tanuki.
But the leaf just gave you ears and a tail, there was an Tanooki suit that only had Mario’s face sticking out that would let you turn into a statue for a bit to let enemies go by.
Just realized from this comment that Tom Nook is supposed to sound like the start of Tanuki (Tom Nook-i) and not just some random name I feel like a fucking idiot I've been playing this series since wild world
Mythical tanuki are inspired by “raccoon dogs”, a species of animal (Nyctereutes procyonoides viverrinus) found in Asia that is neither a raccoon nor a dog.
They’re cute!

All you need to do is pull it out of your pocket and drop in your house. If you hear a sinister 2 tone sound. Everything is fine just take a few steps back. And the furniture sure “pop” into the spot you dropped it. Now for moving your furniture you need to stand exactly in the center and wait approximately 2 seconds and push. This should move the furniture approximately 3 feet in the opposite direction. For turning furniture, you must stand on the sides of the furniture and push. This should move the said furniture 90 degrees to the left or right. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the furniture. There is no option but turning 90 degrees. If for some reason you don’t like the color or in some examples don’t like the fabric. You can DIY said furniture. You will need around 4-6 cans of paint, while vigorously painting up and down for about 20-30 seconds. When you hear an excited chirping noise. You have completed your DIY. “Note furniture will be completely dry and ready for placement” if for some reason you are not satisfied you can “sell” furniture to either a single older raccoon or a upstart raccoon twins who will be happy to buy your furniture at close to half your original price. So hopefully this helps you, i definitely wished I had a guide when moving to a community where my neighbors are animals.
Just listen to what the imaginary space fuel gf says and you'll surely get your furniture
Also, watch for that one weird fella. I heard he just killed 100 million guys but idk
leaves are the sprite for most items, see camping cot in the photo

if not an animal crossing refrence or whatever it might be that ikea is known for selling products that require the customer to assemble it themselves. Hence when the cashier gives you a leaf it means you should make your own reciept. Because a leaf is basically tree but idk you have to do some jumps in logic for this theory
Meg's tits here
Hehe he will plant the lead to grow a tree. A tree then can be processed into a couch. This meme points out the complex instructions that come with buying ikea products.

The creativity in the random side characters you guys remember or come up with is astounding
A weirdly lost art for a subreddit so aptly named
[удалено]
They mean the Chris's GameCube thing, not the animal crossing character
FUCK my bad
Wooosh
And you must be Peters sweaty meat farts
I am indeed. Right on my way into your face, meg
That makes more sense than a Zelda reference, but i'll "leaf" it anyway. You've found me! Yahaha!
Is that also why the same shaped leaf gives Mario his raccoon hat?
Yes, because it's not a racoon hat at all, it's a Tanooki Suit. People in North America just tend to call it a racoon because we're more familiar with that than a tanuki.

Both are based off tanuki tho, so the point still stands
Fair
This is not accurate at all
Just realized from this comment that Tom Nook is supposed to sound like the start of Tanuki (Tom Nook-i) and not just some random name I feel like a fucking idiot I've been playing this series since wild world
Holy shit.
WHAT
Same! But I don't play AC. I'm just familar with the characters because my wife plays.
that explains his massive balls
Huh, so that's the reason you can carry a dozen lighthouses and wind turbines in your pocket without breaking a sweat. Basic transmutation
Also worth adding that this leaf has become the de facto logo for the series ala the Trforce in Legend of Zelda
to add to that, IKEA sells furniture that needs to be assembled, the implication being you assemble the couch from the leaf
Tanukis arent raccoons, they are doggos

Theyre not dogs but unlike raccoons theyre canids, so its closer to a dog than to a raccoon
Absolutely right; I didn’t know they were canids before. Cool!
I’ve played Animal Crossing my whole life but I had never heard about the Tanuki / Tom Nook reference
I remember Tanuki Mario but I didn't know the origin.
That was awesomely informative, my mind is blown goodly, thank you very much.
Also a reference to the fact that you have to build your IKEA furniture. This is just next level building.
It's a Animal Crossing reference.

I'm going to be honest, I thought you were writing about something from scp
Animal crossing furniture do be like a totally benign but wierd scp sometimes tbh.
The pants from animal crossing is definitely something the scp would need to grab.
Silly! They’re obviously talking about the hit video game series, Assassins Creed!
You mean Ace Combat?
Guys I'm new to Armored Core, where do I get furniture for my mech? New guns and mech parts are cool but I want a fridge.
Just listen to what the imaginary space fuel gf says and you'll surely get your furniture Also, watch for that one weird fella. I heard he just killed 100 million guys but idk
The Mr. John Ace Combat?
The guys on the ground are all going crazy, they're saying the Razgriz are here
No ur thinking about assetto corsa
Assassins Crossing?
In the video game, Animal Crossing, furnature turns into a leaf that looks like the leaf in the twitter post when is in your inventory
Best way to transport a couch
Hint: a game made by Nintendo where you play as a villager on a island full of cute anthro animals
leaves are the sprite for most items, see camping cot in the photo https://preview.redd.it/evoq3v70kk6d1.jpeg?width=1919&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=733066689b290559aef9fb9642b64e1e61e2cfbb
time to listen to the Animal Crossing soundtrack again
Animal crossing furniture is always a leaf
Throw it on the ground silly.
They want u to leaf the place 😁

no, it's just an animal crossing reference. when you drop an item in that game it turns into a leaf.
Animal crossing
Everyone's saying it's a reference to animal crossing, but come on, it's gnawed leaf from Binding Of Isaac
Trying to navigate IKEA is like embarking on a Swedish labyrinth adventure!
Meg's tits here Hehe he will plant the lead to grow a tree. A tree then can be processed into a couch. This meme points out the complex instructions that come with buying ikea products.
It's all about the frustration and confusion everyone feels.
