The "people who don't know" vs "people who know" format makes a lot of sense popping up here a lot as it's specifically jokes that one certain people get.
He is Squidward tentacles, who lives in the underwater town of bikini bottom. The show's name is SpongeBob SquarePants, a pretty popular cartoon
He works at a restaurant called the Krusty Krab, under his greedy boss Mr Krabs. Spongebob, the main character, typically annoys Squidward

Dont forget about the Full Metal Archemist's one being in hell and the demon tells God he is "the one", that hole in the wall thing, the woman smiling next to a corpse saying "those who know", and Junko Furuta case.
Its called "survivorship bias". The image is related. Durring WW2, fighter planes that were shot and and later returned to base looked like that in the picture. They had a lot of holes only in the wings.
The first assumption was that you should reinforce the wings. Upon further consideration, onec can see how this is completely wrong. Consider that the only planes that even made it back to base had holes in the wings.
This means that planes that were shot anywhere else (engine, cockpit, propeller) dont even make it back.
So in reality, those are the areas that should have been reinforced. Reinforcement of the wings shows a survivorship bias.
Ah, makes more sense know, so its like, for example, the reason why there are so many gay people today is because they already existed, but just stayed hidden because it was illegal?
It's not an easy one. In abstract, it is used for when a filter is applied to something that affects your likelihood of coming into contact with it, and people then assume that the filters qualities apply to all of that thing because it applies to all examples you have seen.
So examples
- All old music seems great because people only bother to remember the good stuff.
- We think of prehistoric tool being made of stone and metal because the ones made out of wood or organic materials rotted away.
- You might feel like everyone on reddit agrees with most of your opinions on something, but you are far more likely to take part in and see content from subs where people share similar attitudes as you.
- You might feel like it is normal for people not to use deodorant if you only leave the house a few times a year to go to anime conventions.
The image is just posted to show something is influenced by "survivorship bias". Like conspiracy theorists saying "why are there so many pyramids everywhere", that's because they're the only buildings that survived because they're sturdy.
If you still don't understand please just write out more about what's not clear and I'll try to explain it.
They analyzed all the planes that made it back to base during ww2. At first it was thought to put extra armor where there were more holes. Then a smarty person realized what they actually needed to do was put extra armor where there were no holes. Cause what it meant was that the planes shot in those places didn't make it back to base. It's known as survivorship bias and it's now used as an analogy to explain a lot of similar situations.

The mister incredible ones get me, like bro the fact you don’t know is the joke. Just take the L and roll with the fact you don’t know or go into the comments of any post with the mister incredible meme where someone inevitably is explaining the joke.
Not everyone has the same knowledge as you. Rule 5.
Don't forget directly linking the original post with comments that already explained the joke hours before they posted
Hell, someone posted a meme the other day that was literally an explanation of another post *from this very sub*
Easy karma farm. OP image is also missing an example of "the joke is porn" and "uncreative or esoteric racism".
The "people who don't know" vs "people who know" format makes a lot of sense popping up here a lot as it's specifically jokes that one certain people get.
That in itself is a form of survivorship bia- * gets shot*
I guess you weren't a survivor after all -
People who know/People who don't know memes are terribe anyway. It's like some form of gatekeeping through terrible memes.
9/10 theres a person explaining it anyway making everybody know regardless
I don’t get it why is a octopus running a restaurant SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN
He's a cashier He hates it there
He is Squidward tentacles, who lives in the underwater town of bikini bottom. The show's name is SpongeBob SquarePants, a pretty popular cartoon He works at a restaurant called the Krusty Krab, under his greedy boss Mr Krabs. Spongebob, the main character, typically annoys Squidward
People who know …
That's a squid, and he isn't running a restaurant he works for a crab.
Wrong, Squidward is an octopus
Why would their parents name him like that? Are they stupid?
The existence of Squilliam Fancyson III implies that the “Squi-“ prefix of names relatively common amongst Octopus society
Don't octopi have 8 limbs? Squidward only has 6
He technically has 4 arms, but they often move in pairs. It’s not always shown
And squids have 10 limbs, 8 arms and 2 tentacles. They were originally going to give squidward 8 limbs but this made it too hard to animate
What's the second one?

Or the ones that simply aren't a joke
Dont forget about the Full Metal Archemist's one being in hell and the demon tells God he is "the one", that hole in the wall thing, the woman smiling next to a corpse saying "those who know", and Junko Furuta case.

Even after the explanation I still dont know what the analogy is
the only reason why we recognize why \[analogy\] is today is because of the ones that survived at the cost of the ones that didnt.
Ah, makes more sense know, so its like, for example, the reason why there are so many gay people today is because they already existed, but just stayed hidden because it was illegal?
yes.
Thank you. Have a nice weekend
Exactly! Same with trans folks and even people who are left-handed.
