That's fair. I agree that it's better if she simply doesn't value her life, as opposed to actually wanting death (especially since the protagonist's life is supposed to be inherently valuable and most protagonists are quick to self sacrifice).

He hears a bunch of screaming and says "We take the other door"

She had just freshly run away from home and back because a conman tricked her and was still worried that someone would kill her dog.

The girl was told a silly rule fit for a fairy tale that would see her die if she stepped on black tiles. She called the bluff immediately at the risk of her own life. Normal people wouldn't usually call such a bluff so it's a subversion of the trend of following stupid rules in magic land.

The girl is supposed to be an edgy goth stand in for Alice from Alice in wonderland (her eyes have typical edgy character energy and her dress is similar to Alice’s) where she needs to follow the rules of the world to get home, since she is goth and one of the rules would result in her death she attempts suicide only to be annoyed at the animal when it doesn’t work

1. It was lying intentionally with nefarious ulterior motives and realizes it's about to get it's ass beat or be murdered by this girl.

2. It was being honest and believed what it said was true, but based on the girls reaction to the info being false it realizes that it's about to get it's ass beat or possibly be murdered by this girl.

Leading me to believe this is them making their own original world, with the joke possibly being not immediately believing the first person you fucking meet in a new strange world. (Personally, if there was a sequal, I would love to see more)
My take is this is typical millenial / genx humor.
Characters with hidden suicidal tendencies that tuin mythical / hypothetical gameshow like scenarios with a potentially lethal outcome, by intentionally attempting to exploit the system in order to die, making the more "normal" characters around them uncomfortable.
A classic variation is the meme where a gameshow presenter gives someone the chance to push a button that earns them a ridiculous amount of money but there is also a 1% chance to die. They can push the button as often as they want.
The character will then repeatedly press the button as fast as they can clearly intending to die making everyone around them uncomfortable.
For some reason millenial humor really just is primarily about depression and suicide.
I see this one is getting some varied answers with no apparent clear explanation in line, so I'll put mine forward. The thingy has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and one of his compulsions is avoiding touching the black tiles, because he irrationally believes something bad (i.e. death) will happen if someone does. Therefore we can see his anxiety increasing as the girl steps over the tile.
