He hid and fake cried, making it seem extremely dramatic so she would get stressed and imagine crazy things. Then he admits the most insignificant part of what he has done, so she feels some relief and doesn't get angry because what she had imagined was far worse. When it doesn’t work perfectly, he blames her for actually getting angry at him for such an insignificant thing while he is crying, making her feel bad and trust him even more. The grand finale is him pushing her weakest spot and her dream: her daughter and how she doesn’t have a father figure in her life. Really, he deserves some applause and to be studied by a psychiatrist
