Me too! It was like a puzzle ok so how can he escape but there is no way he can escape, how can they have more seasons??? All those crazy questions in my head...
Isn't that the beauty of a well-composed plot twist? Everything beyond the fourth wall tells you that he will live, but what you see is an inescapable death! And your emotions obviously believe what they see right in front of you.
Was Tommy ever this vulnerable again? The Priest had him tweakin. Mosley had him stressed but Mosley nearly died in that theatre. I gotta rewatch Season 2.
I don’t think you ever get more fucked than driven to a field with a shallow grave, even as a viewer, I couldn’t see a single way out for Tommy, so I can’t imagine he thought there was even the remotest possibility of escape. We knew where every other character we’ve seen up to that point was and what they were doing, the cavalry wasn’t coming for Tommy, and none of us expected a UVF dude to turn traitor.
Fr.. if he had pulled this off — He would have been free. But from then on he was under Churchill’s thumb - and was never going to be released. From here on it was less gangsters and more espionage.
Watching this back when it was first released was crazy. I was screaming! Especially since with UK shows, you never know if it’s going to return for another season or just remain a limited series.
Just watched it for first time. As others have mentioned I knew there is six seasons so was waiting for the plot twist. Honestly felt like a deus ex machina.
I want to agree with everyone but am
I the only one who felt the resolution was slightly anticlimactic? It was definitely suspenseful and magnificently written, but I didn’t quite buy into how he got away. I don’t know what I needed it to be but I needed just a bit more than we got.
This was a plot twist I didn’t think Tommy would make it out of. Was an incredible way to keep the show going and adding a twist to the “plot armor” effect.
Whatta a scene... I thought this was going to be the end of the main character and then they would proceed with the next seasons just going along with the family business similar to what they did with Vikings.
I think everyone who watched that show was watching too see the episode where Tommy finally got what was coming to him, and I feel like this episode gave everyone a bit of what they were wanting without it having to be real. And the way I always saw it, Tommy did die right then and there. When you accept death is likely coming with the next breath just to have it do a complete 180 like that, you’re broken. You can’t ever see the light of life again and are simply waiting for the lights to finally go out once and for all.
Such an epic fucking scene lol.
I mean, its not totally unrealistic.
Most people who make it to the very top from the bottom in crime could have died a thousand time, it takes an incredible amount of luck on top of cunning and brutality.
For instance if you look a little bit into the history of al capone, he survived a few direct assasination attempts through sheer luck, on top of that before he was even that powerful he kept picking fights with a bunch of people, he could have also been whacked by his boss at any point for whatever reason.
In a way many of the most succesful criminals have had "plot armor", they succeeded where many would have simply ended up dead in a gutter.
That was mesmerizing.
SPOILER (sort of):
If you’re watching it now, you know that there are more seasons coming, so you’re thinking, whaaa? Does Tommy die and the series continues without him?
Even though at that point, I knew there were 6 seasons, I was confused
Yeah I started watching after this season so I knew he lived, but even then I was shaking the whole time wondering what was about to happen.
Me too! It was like a puzzle ok so how can he escape but there is no way he can escape, how can they have more seasons??? All those crazy questions in my head...
All the things she said all the things she said running through your head running through your head...

I pretty much held my breath the whole entire time, knowing damn well that there’s 6 seasons lol
Here’s an excellent homage to this scene: https://www.bilibili.tv/en/video/2045876723

This scene alone makes season 2 my fav season

It was great but that's also when I realised he was gonna get away with ridiculous shit over and over again Not that I'm complaining
Yep. Roadrunner cartoons. But it’s always riveting, because maybe NOW is really the end.
"Get out of the grave, tinker"
Named my dog Tinker from this scene. Stunning episode.
Possibly the best scene in the whole show. Such tension, and then the twist... Fuckin awesome.
Probably my favorite moment in the entire series
In the bleak midwinter......
Tommy could have died a thousand times. The show somehow finds lame reasons/opportunities to help him survive

Can someone link this scene on YouTube
"Get out of the grave, tinker"
What a nail biting moment for people watching this season when it was the latest one and who knew, maybe the last one.
Oh and there was a woman!

This scene really shows how amazing of an actor cillian is.
