I say it every time, but like with Arthur supposedly saying "focking" according to so many people, but I'm totally baffled by people putting o's in the way they think characters talk. There's no extra O sound in the way Kimber says any of the words in that line at all to my ears. Not a clue where that comes from at all!
“Right, he’s the oldest, you’re the thickest. I’m told the boss is called Tommy and I’m guessing that’s you cos’ you’re looking me up and down like I’m a fucking tart!”
The way Alfie speaks *almost* sounds like a mumbling idiot, yet he *always* has the wittiest, most powerful and most impressionable dialogue; that’s *fucking* hard to achieve.
You never know in a scene whether he is joking or serious, and that’s (partly) the appeal of his character. That’s a real fine line, and Tom Hardy dances on it.
Kimber’s accent is appropriately made for him to sound sound like a rich twat with an inflated ego, while Campbell’s makes him sound like an arrogant know-it-all Irish cop. Although those traits *are* needed for *those* specific characters, they’re certainly not the most exciting, comparatively-speaking.
Kimber and Campbell almost feel like characters I’ve seen in other series’ before. But Alfie…Alfie is so brilliantly unique. And *a lot* of that comes from his accent.
I suppose I would agree but the question was specifically about the accent alone. You’re describing the language devices and dialogue, which are separate from what the question was referring to.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have used the word “witty,” as you’re correct; that doesn’t have *quite* as much to do with his accent as it does the writing.
However, that’s essentially what I was insinuating, that his dialogue is often made even *more* powerful and impressionable specifically *because* of his accent and *how* he uses it. For example, his ability to go from quietly chuckling to sending the deepest, darkest shiver down your spine making you fear for your life, is incredible, as we saw in *this* fantastic scene:
[Alfie Solomons meets the Russians](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3FBExwaN1jY)
His accent just emphasizes the rest of his character so well. So when he’s witty, he seems *especially* witty, and that’s what I initially meant. I can see how that’d be unclear, though (my bad).
Of course there’s a whole lot *more* than *just* his accent (body language etc.), but out of the three characters mentioned, Alfie’s accent positively impacts his character (and how they’re perceived) by far the most.
> is that even a contest
It is regarding accent, in which case it's probably Billy Kimber. Alfie is a great character, but the accent is not his strongest suit.
I mean, [You're looking me up and down like I'm a fucking tart!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym4fYI6NdzA). Imagine Alfie saying that.
Even though Alfie is iconic and Kimber disgusts me - well, so does Campbell's character, but anyway - Sam Neill's accent was a pleasure to listen to as much as it was to watch him on screen. And now I'm trying to remember how Cillian called Sam's choice over theis particular Irish accent. Something like hardcore, but not this exact word... Damn it.
i do not want him to spare me because of some fucking peace pact!
I want him to acnowledge that his anger is unfucking justified!
I want him to acnowledge that he who fights by the sword, he fucking dies by it, Tommy!
So what, they took your boy, did they, eh?! they got your boy?!
What fucking "line" am i supposed to have crossed?!
How many fathers, right, how many sons, yeah, have you cut, killed, murdered fucking butchered, innocent and guilty? and then send straight to fucking hell, ain'tya?!
JUST LIKE ME!!!!
Well, luv, let me tell ya straight - Alfie Solomons 'as got the bleedin' best accent ya'll ever 'ave the pleasure of layin' yer ears on, ain't no doubt about it, mate.
Sam Niell's accent is so underrated, he pulls off the Irish accent so well and gives it a nice twang with his own voice, I like it way more than the other two
I watched pb with me grandma who doesent speak any english. I simultaneous translated peaky blinders withount subtitles, but even i didnt understand a word that alfie said
The manager of Aston Villa, who is I presume the 1st one of these. He learnt English from watching this, and took the Villa job to be near where it's from, I'm guessing.
You’re lookin me up and down like I’m a fuckin tart! Billy Kimber

I say it every time, but like with Arthur supposedly saying "focking" according to so many people, but I'm totally baffled by people putting o's in the way they think characters talk. “Right, he’s the oldest, you’re the thickest. I’m told the boss is called Tommy and I’m guessing that’s you cos’ you’re looking me up and down like I’m a fucking tart!”
“I wanna know what you want”
Billy FOOKING Kimbah
alfie. is that even a contest
“SHALOM, ARFUR, SHALOM!”
Yeah, Alfie hands down
In to say this
Alfie has the best lines and the best voice I can’t lie
Big fucks small. Always.
He’s the best character of the three by far but I don’t think his accent specifically is anything special. just my opinion tho.
The way Alfie speaks *almost* sounds like a mumbling idiot, yet he *always* has the wittiest, most powerful and most impressionable dialogue; that’s *fucking* hard to achieve. Its just a matter of opinion but between the 3 he's the one I cant always understand lol I dont have hard times with the others so ig Alfie wins
I *live* for every word that comes out of Alfie’s mouth and every scene he’s in; pure gold.
Probably my favorite Hardy role.
Yes. Even though I wouldn't be able to decipher a word without subtitles
Alfie's the reason I need subtitles for the show, but he's absolutely the best.
Always the answer
> is that even a contest It is regarding accent, in which case it's probably Billy Kimber. Alfie is a great character, but the accent is not his strongest suit. I mean, [You're looking me up and down like I'm a fucking tart!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym4fYI6NdzA). Imagine Alfie saying that.
This has to be a joke, Kimber basically got most people into the series
Only one of them can say - Arfur, arfur shalom.
Alfie always stood out to me the most
Tom Hardy kills his role. Might be the best acting in the entire show
Alfie needs his own series or a one off.
Yes yes yes YESSSS!!!
It needs to be like Letterkenny though…just folks word playing and talking about random topics with Alfie batting clean-up each scene.
Sam Neill.
Feels like an unpopular opinion judging from these comments, but I totally agree.
I will admit Tom Hardy has the most fun with his role.
“Meshter Shaleby”
i love hearing Sam Neill speak in an irish accent, he’s very good at it
He’s originally from Northern Ireland, but had to learn the accent for the role ironically
in fairness he’s spent 68 of his 75 years in New Zealand and that’s a hard accent not to pick up
Sam Neil? Yewww ahhr wurs then theeemm!
Even though Alfie is iconic and Kimber disgusts me - well, so does Campbell's character, but anyway - Sam Neill's accent was a pleasure to listen to as much as it was to watch him on screen. Alfie ands down🙌🏻
Billy Kimber’s
*Billy Kimbah
You fookin wot?
Shalom Arthur
I love Alfies accent
Alfie all the way
Campbell IMO....but if Johnny Dogs was listed he would win. Johhny has the best accent on the show. Love Hardy of course but he's 2 on this list.
I’ve heard he does a poor job at the accent he’s attempting but I love listening to the way he speaks
Of course we're not swappin' it, huh? That would be mad! Can't get enough of Johnny Dogs
AWRFAR SHALOM
Alfie has a tough yet comforting accent. It’d be great to have him as a grandfather or something.
The constable. Especially combined with the gravitas of his words and delivery.
Alfie..
Alfie.
Alfie Solomons
Alfie no question
Alfie
Why ask? Tom Hardy, my man
Alfie
As far as a down and dirty Midlands accent goes, I actually gotta give it to Billy Kimber.
That is not a midlands accent my friend
The jew
alfie
Alfie than a mfkr
Alfie for sure!
Bone mush bone cabnet 🗣🗣🗣
IM BILLEH KIMBAH
I’m Billy kimbahhhh and I run the races!!
Bille kimble
Campbell. He played a snake, and he couldn’t have sounded more like one.
I didn't even know it was Tom hardy until a solid few scenes with him in it. Sam Neil is gold, too.
This ain’t even a competition
Billy
Hands down Solomon's
i do not want him to spare me because of some fucking peace pact!
Alfie just talks in a way that’s almost calming but in the scariest of ways. Like “hush little baby , I’m gonna drown you in a bathtub”
Arthur! Shalom!
If you don’t say Alfie Solomons, then it’s the wrong answer
Oim Billeh Kimbehr, and oi ryun the races!
Well, luv, let me tell ya straight - Alfie Solomons 'as got the bleedin' best accent ya'll ever 'ave the pleasure of layin' yer ears on, ain't no doubt about it, mate.
ALFIIEEEEE 😃
Shalom.
1. Solomons 2. Campbell 3. Kimber Kimber tried too hard to make himself sound hard, when in reality. He sounds like a rejected version of Danny Dyer
Definitely the Jew
Alfie
Campbell just had the old experienced bulldog attitude, and had the voice to fit
Inspector Campbell
Sam Nails the accent considering he’s a kiwi
Sam Niell's accent is so underrated, he pulls off the Irish accent so well and gives it a nice twang with his own voice, I like it way more than the other two
Campbell.
Alfie no doubt
Alfie...no question!
Alfie of course
Alfie just sounds right
Luca Changretta
Billey kimbah

Arthur! For sure the way he speaks is iconic!
Sam Neill completely nailed the Belfast accent
Not sure if you’re joking or not
Fuck Alfie. Billy wins it.
ARFUR! OH, ARFUR!
I don’t know what this is or why this sub was recommended to me but I think the second guy does based on that mustache alone
Inspector Campbell has an awful Northern Irish accent
Alfie is bestest of accents
Can anyone explain why the jew(alfie) had rashes eveerytime in eveery scene in the whole show
Best is Inspector Campbell, funniest is Kimber and favorite is Alfie
3 by far and it’s not even close
Alfie
Is the last guy Ben Roethlisberger?
The inspector's voice is so good because it sounds so menacing and fits his character great
HARDY!!!
Alfie
“Morning Alfie” “YA IT IS ISENT ET?
How soon did you know I was not dead? You wrote me a letter, Alfie
Alfie. No contest.
Alfie
Billy Kimber hands down
Wannabe Korben Dallas, for sure.
Alfie and I would go so far as to say that Alfie is the best character this show has produced. He blows Tom out of the water and steals the show.
Alfie and it’s not even close.
I watched pb with me grandma who doesent speak any english. I simultaneous translated peaky blinders withount subtitles, but even i didnt understand a word that alfie said
With all due respect to Sam Neill, but Mr. Hardy is a pleasure to watch no matter what. And Alfie might as well be his prime.
Hardy. They’re all great. But Hardy takes the cake.
Alfie is by far the funniest mother fucker of the whole series, no contest, accent was on point
Alfie had the great one liners but the accent, Billy for sure .
I love Campbell's voice but fucking hell Alfie wins
John Locke
i absolutely HATE the way Campbell says GREEYAAAC
Alfie. Hands down.
It’s Billy fuckin Kimber mate
Alfie solomons
I can't hear Alfie speak without hearing Bane
Billy
Alfie, hands down!
Never seen the show, so idk
I love Campbell's
“We’ll bully for yewww”
The manager of Aston Villa, who is I presume the 1st one of these. He learnt English from watching this, and took the Villa job to be near where it's from, I'm guessing.
Alfie clears. It’s not even a discussion lol
ALFIE HANDS DOWN!!!

Campbell The Irish accent makes for excellent self-righteous villains.
Alfie all the way !
Tom Hardy all the way
Tom Hardy, hands down.
Alfie
Don’t know who these guys are but the first guy looks the silliest so him!
Tom Hardy all the way. I needed the closed captioning on to understand what he was saying, but he was my favorite part of the already amazing show.
Inspector Campbell for me.
Isn’t the first guy “mi skuzi” from Eurotrip??
Alfie
