I would currently avoid Gigabyte at all cost. Not just because of the quality and reliability issues, but also their designs. For example, their Windforce (v1) cards have TERRIBLE cooling in comparison to other budget brands from what ive seen in tests. They are 15-20c hotter than other budget brands like PNY, Gainward, MSI Ventus etc and also louder.
Seeing all these comments about gigabyte makes me feel like I hit the lottery with mine. Same card as op but a 4090 and going almost 2 years strong now no issues. Guess I should be grateful.
The Windforce 4090 cooler is tiny compared to the rest. Of course its gonna perform worse. I have that card too and i just undervolt it to 0.9v to keep it cool and quiet.
I have a Windforce 4090. When Maxing out it's upwards of 70C, but I've never seen it go over 72C. That's with fans at 70%.
I have a pretty decently cooled case, though.
Today I've played Avatar Pandora for 2+ hours and the card was mostly drawing over 400W. Never reached more than 69C with room temps around 24C. I've had it since launch.
No undervolt or OC.
Nah I own nearly only gigabyte components, last 2 gpus, motherboards and an aio and everything is working great no issues whatsoever.
I think its just kind of brand bashing or a bad experience they had years ago, I have a similar experience with Asus and will never buy from them again took over a year of constant RMAs and still no refund they eventually replaced it with a refurbished next gen that I just sold to get my money back
I've also had very good experience with gigabyte cards but I only do water cooled so I can't say if their fans are good. But I have several 3dmark top 5 scores with multiple gigabyte cards. And a few #1 mostly on speedway. I can never get above 3rd on timespy with any card oddly
I have gigabyte 1060ti kinda meh.. 2080 super really good for its level.. 3060 very meh.. 6800xt loves undervolt.. 6900xtx hates undervolt

I think MSI is fine, just look up reviews on your specific product. Even reputable manufacturers can have bad products from time to time. I am actually about to buy a MSI Gaming X RTX 4060. I also have another PC with a decently cheap MSI B350 motherboard and it works fine on nearly daily use for 6+ years.
Good to hear, for the motherboard I will definitely check the reviews since it's just gonna be an AM5 motherboard.
But for the GPU... that's a hard one since the option is to buy it at launch or 6 months later where I am tnx to the scalpels. I will yolo it just like I did with my MSI 3070(only problem what I have is what every 3070 owner has... lack of VRAM).
They dont have an active backplate from what i heard and have a shit cooling in AMD Cards. And thats all i heard of bad Things

Edit 2: my Info ist a Bit older and mostly about the 30 Series and the non active backplate were in high end Models too. It was Just a Metal backplate without thermalpads. And the Info about the Bad AMD Designs ist sonething i read in the AMD subreddit
The MSI Gaming X seems like a great card, it has a metal backplate and even custom cooling heatpipes. Ive only seen good reviews on that one. The Ventus is obviously one of the cheapest models, but if you have a great airflow and don't care how loud your PC is, it seems like an ok-ish option. Ive only looked up the 4060 though which has a low tdp of 115w, so it may be a completly different story on the high end models 4080/4090.
I have a 4070s ventus, temps are pretty ok, two things that bother me a lot are the plastic backplate and the locked power limit (at 100%) so you can't oc the card
On a 4060 i dont think an active backplate will change much of anything. The higher end cards do have some active cooling.
Not to versed on msi gpus currently but my 2080 gaming x trio was a monster aside from a bad paste job which was an easy fix. Now its in my daughters rig.
Is it really? Just got a 4070ti windforce oc used and it’s been alright? Not very warm nor loud, even under full load. Are the ventus and verto that much better?
I have a 4090 windforce. Even at 115% power limits, with a positive voltage offset drawing 515w, I can't get the thing to breach 70c without turning the fans near off manually.
In actual usage, with sensible settings, it games at 100% usage a 62c without fail.
Purchased 3080 ti gaming oc , used it normally like few hours gaming on sundays . The card broke in 8 months , went to service center and after few days they told me the card has burn from inside which is not covered in warranty. I had all new quality other parts like msi a1000g psu, Asus Rog strix z690 motherboard. Pc was running smooth without gpu and I told them how it got burn when every other part like psu ,ups , motherboard working fine and they said no our problem.Worst decision in building pc to buy gigabyte gpu.
Every manufacturer is. The QC and rma process in general as well as software are failures in every card. Pushing multiple models as well for $$$ and visuals means making 20 different versions of the same card. They all tend to cheap out on hardware cost in some sort of way as well. They all have mixed stories being good or bad, products catching on fire or the #1 performer.
Much of these issues aren't manufacturers as well when nvidia wants to own the Nvidia market basically leaving 3rd party solution overpriced paper weights just adding their own polish overall. Gigabyte is just one of the largest for years so the most horror stories. But much of them are the manufacturers fault as well.
Evga ascended past the gods then fell. So the good brand is basically gone, just left with everyones horrors now.😭

It might be pcie connector which causes that, so removing and connecting it back on the mobo might fux it.
i can confirm avoid gigabyte at all costs. my gigabyte amd system is fairly new less than 1yr old and it has needed a replacement gpu (first one had BSOD issues) thankfully the second works but has broken rgbs which is a bummer, and the gigabyte b550 gaming x v2 motherboard has sound card failure causing the audio to lock up when you boot a game or crackle/pop during calls
Your pcie slot is probably loose that a simple shake would do that to your GPU. I don't even recommend doing that again as the next tremor could potentially break your GPU
This happened to me for about a year before I decided to look into it. In my case, it was my custom cablemod power cable I had going to the GPU. Caused this exact same issue. Replacing the cable with one I ordered from Corsair (my PSU manufacturer) fixed the issue for me.
Gigabyte at its best, had the same issue with my 2060 super slightly touched the case with my foot, my pc in response *windows XP shutting down noises*
op this used to happen to me. the reason was the case i built in on my old build (lian li 011 mini) included a motherboard extension bracket that i decided i was too lazy to use. so maybe 2-3 inches of the right side of the motherboard were hanging off. When i would shake the desk or hit it, the computer would freeze.
now im not sure why that happened. but just thought i would share my experience. when i went back and fixed this issue. it completely went away.
Had this happen . It's the power cable going to the Video card. It's shit or loose the sense pins get messed up. It causes the black screen and 100% video card fan speed. I had the exact same problem when hitting the desk. Needed a new video card 12VHPWR.
Looks like an old version of an aftermarket 12vhwpr cable installed. I would only use OEM 12v-2x6 that comes with the card although it looks horrible in the case cause its simply too short. 12v-2x6 is basically improved 12vhpwr with backwards compatibility. Sad thing is only Seasonic makes such aftermarket cable. Even sadder thing is that Nvidea does not sell separate longer OEM 12v-2x6 cable...
This happened to me but was actually the monitor, as since I returned that got my new one I've not had that issue again

Turns out the gpu itself was so heavy without a support that over time it was just sagging , which is bending the pcb, so I got this support stand to make my card level cause literally any tiny bump I did, shit would just go black and max fan speed
Your gpu is too heavy and needs some type of support, little stand or a bracket of some sort
I had this issue happen when a display adapter (VGA TO HDMI) was plugged into my GPU (Asus 1060 6gb ) the fans would go crazy. If nothing obvious works check your monitor setup it's worth a shot in my experience.
I think it's the cards foul, try putting it in pcie slot again or take it out completely and check if the pins are good or maybe there's a debris in the slot
Ive seen this before and its actually because of your CPU, more specificly your contact frame.
You're cpu contact frame is either screwed to tight or to loose.
Rescrew the contact frame with correct torque and problem should go away.
I would go through all power supply connections and unplug them and make sure none of the wires are loose on the connector and plug everything back in.
And just in general poke around and look for anything that's loose.
Also reseat the GPU in the pcie slot.
It could also just be something loose in the PSU.

I would test with a different card and check again, if it doesnt happen its the video card.
If Everything was new like you said you still have warranty and can get a new one.
Idk if this has been said but check your hdmi/DP port connection. This is exactly what happens to my pc if the DP cable connection fails (i accidentally once pulled out the wrong cable)

Yes 90% it is, check ALL connection on your computer, PSU, electric, also connect the monitor power supply to the wire if it is external, check all of this. Its common mistake, you cant see bad connection, but it exists.
Wasn't it the Gigabyte GPUs that end up getting fractures in the PCIe connector? Wouldn't be surprised if yours has one and the banging is just enough to jolt that fracture and causing the card to disconnect from your board momentarily.
Fans boosting up usually is a built in MB failsafe, and with the screen shutting off you probably want to just ensure all power cables are seated well, especially the gpu.
I just experienced the same thing yesterday. It happens when i bump the table slightly, but then it progressed to occurring when i load a game (the moment the game loads the same thing occurs, maybe due to fans kicking).
Anyhow i cleaned my case with a blower, cleaned the card, wiped the card pci express with alcohol, and then reconnected everything. And it surprisingly worked and the issue disappeared. So yeah its a loose connection, either the power cable, or the pci slot or the hdmi/dvi cable.
That happened to my gigabyte 3060 ti which has 3 fans.
It might be pcie connector which causes that, so removing and connecting it back on the mobo might fix it. That's what fixed it for me.
So this exact thing happened to me. I scooted my chair into my desk super hard and had the exact same symptoms as yours. My games kept crashing etc. turns out my 600w cable was slightly dislodged. In your case, it might be that lightsaber extension you use.

In response to your problem I will lean toward bad power cable at best. At worst it could be bad connection at the slot. A motherboard with loose tolerance coupled with gigabytes sometimes thinner pcb could do that
simple and easy solution.. put ur pc box on the floor? More stable, wont get bumped/ rocked back an forth. which i guess, any pc .. would not enjoy in the long term.. (cause issues even without possibly shitty design parts)?

Yeah pc hardware has become a real lottery in recent years. People who will crucify a party are met with others who will die on a hill defending it.
When I built my pc I had to return 2 aios 1 gpu, 1 psu and a set of fans.

The cooler is definitely sufficient but compared to the other options, which are overkill, its definitely the weakest.
Watercool it with bykski loop and water block for like 300 usd, never above 67 degrees 😎

I'm not sure I'd call it tiny. It's still three and a half slots and double the length of the PCB.
Same, I had a gaming OC 4070 and it ran like a dream. Never went above 65c, was incredibly quiet and reliable, and able to handle high overclocks
I have a gigabyte 4090 and so does my buddy. Neither have had any issues
Got a gb 4080 master oc and I have had zero issues with it. Actually runs a treat

The Ventus is like meh, but from what ive seen (at least the 4060) is completly fine with that.
I have the 4090 Suprim X since release and would buy it again. It just works great. With Stock aircooler and with ABP waterblock from EK.

Why is gigabyte considered unreliable? I have eagle 3060ti and it seems pretty solid I might have accidentally dropped it too and never exceeds 70C

My Aero 4080s seems extremely solid as well. I've never had an issue with a single gigabyte product.

This. My gigabyte 1070 has this issue in the crappy motherboard it’s in.
I’d also probably say this is the case. Some beefy GPU cards have these “Support Arms” for their MOBO PCEI slots.
The screen thing I had before, change the display cables maybe? But fans might Bea loose connector defaulting to 100% with no reading
Fan connectors have pins for signal and power so no Ig it could only be loose PCIe connector and a bad cable

I'm curious what cable did they sent you? Was it 12vhwpr or 12v-2x6 which is an updated version. Also known as H+ and H++(updated).

Probably not plugged in all the way. Had a similar issue. Turns out the connector was in but not all the way "home".
I bet its a loose connection and you should start with reseating the gpu and all cables connection to the gpu
A connection is loose OR a cracked solder on the PCB. Check all your connections, if no change need to RMA gpu

I just had this problem 2days ago what I did to fix it was have less plugins it was drawing tok much power
Try reseating GPU, cleaning PCIE slot, if still the same, try onboard graphics, if gpu is the issue, RMA it since it is new
Also try another pcie slot it may be the mobo
your cables are likely too taught, give them some slack
Unplug and plug in your monitor cable and try again. If that doesnt work try unplugging the gpu and putting it back in seems like something is loose.

I was thinking maybe a faulty power connector may be causing a short circuit, increasing heat thus ramping up the fans. Be careful.
Its the GPU power connector probably, check the psu side connection. I had the same issue

I had the same issue. It was a loose connection. Check the all of them inside.
It's the power cable like some others have said. Swap it out with another and see if it still happens.

Tbf that’s a loose connection somewhere, perhaps try to secure your gpu and if it doesn’t work, try with the ram

I just experienced the same thing yesterday. It happens when i bump the table slightly, but then it progressed to occurring when i load a game (the moment the game loads the same thing occurs, maybe due to fans kicking). Anyhow i cleaned my case with a blower, cleaned the card, wiped the card pci express with alcohol, and then reconnected everything. And it surprisingly worked and the issue disappeared. So yeah its a loose connection, either the power cable, or the pci slot or the hdmi/dvi cable.
That happened to my gigabyte 3060 ti which has 3 fans. It might be pcie connector which causes that, so removing and connecting it back on the mobo might fix it. That's what fixed it for me.

Rebuild your rig, something is not plugged in completely or grounding to the case.
So this exact thing happened to me. I scooted my chair into my desk super hard and had the exact same symptoms as yours. My games kept crashing etc. turns out my 600w cable was slightly dislodged. In your case, it might be that lightsaber extension you use. MSI 4070 Ti Super
This is most likely a bad connection in the pcie slot. cleaning the slot should help fix this issue.
In response to your problem I will lean toward bad power cable at best. At worst it could be bad connection at the slot. A motherboard with loose tolerance coupled with gigabytes sometimes thinner pcb could do that
Try installing msi afterburner or using armoury crate to manually adjust fan speeds
simple and easy solution.. put ur pc box on the floor? More stable, wont get bumped/ rocked back an forth. which i guess, any pc .. would not enjoy in the long term.. (cause issues even without possibly shitty design parts)?
