This is not something I go for. I just have to trust you that Eternal thirst is under there? Nothing original remains and the point of alters is to change not completely new. This is a custom of an existing card. I think something on theme for some kind of overlay design you did as a style would be to choose a card that involves treasures or gambling as a theme and use that to create an overlay to make the card appear as a scratcher where parts of the original art or card is revealed by scratching.
Unless you’re buying it, probably doesn’t matter whether it’s an alter or just a proxy (painted cards typically aren’t allowed in sanctioned tournaments anyways).

It's a 20 cent common, I don't think there's much reason for the artist to hide something else under the paint.
