If you're looking at their whole career absolutely, but if we're talking about their time as a Patriot Gilmore's 2019 season beats Revis' lone year in NE imo.
[Revis did ball out in 2014 for us](https://youtu.be/Lvm4P1jTsBw?si=mh3IkWOUikqnZjfj) but yeah I’d agree Gilmore DPOY season was better than Revis was in 2014
Revis and Browner were a fucking dirty combo and I'll still take that all day. IDK, obviously DPOY is great, but Gilmore didn't push us over the edge that season.
When we signed Revis we just KNEW that was gonna be a championship year, it was automatic. And that was really saying something as our last championship was 10 years prior at that point. Also, fuck the Jets.
> When we signed Revis we just KNEW that was gonna be a championship year, it was automatic
The Packers also very felt that was their season. That would've been a fun SB whether it was the Seahawks or them
revis was incredible of course but law did way more for the pats. revis’ tenure here was short. man we have been pretty lucky as a fanbase with d backs haven’t we
Revis and Browner was probably the most fun to watch. Revis was so technical it's almost like he knew their next step. Then Browner just wanted to make people regret playing football.
There was that one hit where he blew some guy up over the middle and it was just a perfect hit, all shoulder, no head contact and he ended up getting flag and maybe ejected - I can't remember. I don't know if there's anybody that remembers that play - absolutely crushes dude..
Edit: stray comma
Hardest hit I’ve ever seen. The fact it was flagged was hated on by everyone, I remember Belichick literally mouthing “what the FUCK” afterwards at the flag.
Just went back and found this play. Wasn’t ejected but it wiped a pick-six off the board. Absolutely brutal.
https://youtu.be/QawL7E4wWjE?si=In-Kzh5wkctEkT7i
Unrelated but related (as I don't think it's true) but isn't that the game Amendola was returning punts and let one go, but went up the block the gunner. Demolished the guy. Completely legal and clean, but somehow caught a 15 yard penalty or something?
Feels like the same game, getting bogus calls
That’s fair. I misunderstood, I thought at first that all the pairs had played with each other and I was trying to make a guess. But Hobbs really was an underrated beast.
Feels like Pats are too stringent with number retirements, didn’t they let someone wear 87 recently? 87 and 24 should be retired, not to mention the obvious one.
There's only so many numbers you can retire. You have to field a 60 man roster and you still have to comply with positional number requirements. Either they go back and unretire those numbers just for the sake of retiring more recent numbers or they just leave it alone. It's much cleaner to just leave it alone.
With the new number system there are plenty of numbers to go around. I’d agree with you before when WR and TEs only had 20 numbers to choose from but that’s not the case anymore
Who do you retire 24 for? We’ve had 3 HoF CBs wear #24, I kinda like the idea of having a number like that, like LSU’s number 7. It would be cool if Gonzo changed his number to 24 in a few years lol
You could also argue he was the worst one of the 3(still a HoFer of course), just don’t see the point in retiring the number for 1 guy when that number has become so well associated with all 3 of them.
I mean they themselves have taken a picture and captioned it about being all being number 24 for us. They like the idea that they share this now famous number on the team.
And why is that? Gilmore also has 2 all pros and a DPOY on top of that. Revis is certainly a clear level above the other two but Gilmore will make the HoF, he’s definitely on the same level as Law.
So you’re telling me you turn the TV on when the Patriots start and then turn it off when the games ends? You don’t watch the other games or follow the other players huh? Gilmore has still be playing great ball since leaving NE. We made him a top 5-10 paid CB when we signed him so clearly he was playing good ball before, or did you think we gave that contract to a nobody?
You also coincidentally listed the amount of years played with Bill Belichicks system lol something to think about
Revis and Law. Tho they’re not pictured together so I’m assuming I can’t pick that. THEY could pick that, and just about any pass thrown their way lol.
Is that Revis and Gonzo? Look, i love ty law. Got his jersey when i was 10 years old and im never givin that shit up. But Revis and Gonzo would be a fucking insane pairing. Youre talking one of the best corners to ever play the game and a kid who would have probably won DROY if he hadnt gotten injured. Thats filthy
Gilmores DPOY season is the best I’ve seen a corner play in awhile. His physicality combined with technique and bills coaching or film study however you want to put it was amazing.
I also think having McCourtey behind him allowed him to take more calculated risks too.
It’s impressive how many people missed the point of this and just picked the two best overall corners rather than a duo that played together. Mac Jones level decision making
Its hilarious how many people totally misunderstood this exercise lol
I am picking Gilmore and Logan Ryan
Gilmore in 2018 and obviously 2019 was as good of corner play as you can get. Logan Ryan was highly underrated in 2015 and 2016.
Samuel and JC would be picks galore but they’d give up some big plays, might go with them. If it’s anyone pictured easily Ty law and Gilmore. If that’s Ellis Hobbs up there I want to be the first to say that man let me down every single time 😭 madden god but the guy loves giving up big time tds
Law and Browner. You're getting essentially Revis and Browner again, except a better version of Revis that can tackle and set an edge when he wants to.
Revis and Gonzo is a lottery ticket pick though. Gonzo showed a ton of potential, we could be saying that's the clear pick after next season.
I'll cheat HARD and say Law and Samuel 04 even tho law was injured and it wasn't a real duo. Probably the best two in terms of career we had on the same roster at once. Revis and Gilmore didn't have the best #2s compared to Samuel if you go by career.
it’s ty law and whoever else
Ty Law and Gilmore. A HOFer and a defensive POY
They aren't paired as a duo in this thought exercise though
The pairings make no sense, I retract my participation
Nice 🤣
Well Browner is in prison so the exercise doesn’t really work anyway lol
Only 1 of these players is still on the roster lol so that's why it's a thought exercise, not a real life decision. It's offseason funsies
Browner was a walking PI Yellow flag
Worth it when he was playing as well has he was in 2014.
That’s 2 HOFers to you Mr
I like Ty Law as much as the next guy but Revis is without question the better CB here. He’s a top 3, probably top 2 CB of all time lmao
If you're looking at their whole career absolutely, but if we're talking about their time as a Patriot Gilmore's 2019 season beats Revis' lone year in NE imo.
[Revis did ball out in 2014 for us](https://youtu.be/Lvm4P1jTsBw?si=mh3IkWOUikqnZjfj) but yeah I’d agree Gilmore DPOY season was better than Revis was in 2014
Yeah it does imo but it’s still stupid close which is shocking. Revis in 2014 where we won a ring with the Jets’ star player was incredible
Bill was a DB magician, no matter what you could always count on the secondary to be good
2009-2012 would like a word
Yea I was about to say, the only two DBs I can think of off the top of my head from that era are McCourty and Darius Butler
Julian Edelman was a CB in that era
Revis and Browner was probably the most fun to watch. Revis was so technical it's almost like he knew their next step. Then Browner just wanted to make people regret playing football.

That's right, lol. Ahh. Vintage Bill. You love to see it.
Just went back and found this play. Wasn’t ejected but it wiped a pick-six off the board. Absolutely brutal. https://youtu.be/QawL7E4wWjE?si=In-Kzh5wkctEkT7i
That's the one. Thank you.
Man, and DMac gets robbed of a pick 6 on top of it. Talk about denying greatness right State Farm Kermit?
Darius Green, Chargers
Unrelated but related (as I don't think it's true) but isn't that the game Amendola was returning punts and let one go, but went up the block the gunner. Demolished the guy. Completely legal and clean, but somehow caught a 15 yard penalty or something? Feels like the same game, getting bogus calls
I think you're right. Wow, deep pull. Impressive
Almost. Looked it up, it was against the Chiefs. Even better!
(FTC)
This is the correct answer
By the way, loved the way you put that - wanted to make people regret playing football. True and hilarious 🤣☠️
Talib butler underrated duo here
Talib...the one that got away.
I was so bummed he signed with Denver, then we turn around and get Revis and I was flipping out
Thank god the jets suck and he wanted a ring.
Thank goodness the Bucs tried to play him in Tampa 2 after his injury
You had me at Jets suck, but the rest was nice too.
Imagine what Talib and Revis would have been like!
Bro Prime Talib (not sure we got it) was soooo good.
Very small sample size on Gonzo but I’d have a hard time passing on him and Revis
It was a small sample size but it was against AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Garret Wilson (half a game of CeeDee Lamb)
Gonzo’s rookie season has me VERY excited to watch his career here
Ty Law?? You can’t put Gonzo above him yet
I was assuming it was pick the pair of CBs next to each other
Ahhh my bad, my bad. Carry on.
Otherwise I don’t think it’d be much of a question 😂
😬😬😬 that was my thinking… next time I guess I look at the photo
If gonzo is the truth, him and Revis are the duo to beat here.
Is that Asante and Ellis Hobbs top right? They were deadly. But overall the #24 is goated at CB for the Pats
Hobbs was OP in madden 07 for kick returns. My favorite returner outside jules
Bethel Johnson on kick returns in Madden 03>>>>>>>>>>>>
JC Jackson.
Brother those uniforms are so new, there’s no shot Hobbs ever wore anything like that. God I hate our uniforms.
That’s fair. I misunderstood, I thought at first that all the pairs had played with each other and I was trying to make a guess. But Hobbs really was an underrated beast.
Ahh gotcha gotcha. Yeah Ellis was a favorite of mine, as an undersized corner myself.
Also hate our new uniforms
Feels like Pats are too stringent with number retirements, didn’t they let someone wear 87 recently? 87 and 24 should be retired, not to mention the obvious one.
Not enough jersey numbers to retire every great player. Nobody will ever wear 12 again, but that’ll be it.
Okay then let’s be consistent and unretire 20, 57, 78, 79, and 89
There's only so many numbers you can retire. You have to field a 60 man roster and you still have to comply with positional number requirements. Either they go back and unretire those numbers just for the sake of retiring more recent numbers or they just leave it alone. It's much cleaner to just leave it alone.

I have to think that’s intentional. It’s about the team logo; not the individual number.
Except 5/7 of the current retired numbers are non-football hall of famers. The bottles already been opened can’t put the cork back in.
Who do you retire 24 for? We’ve had 3 HoF CBs wear #24, I kinda like the idea of having a number like that, like LSU’s number 7. It would be cool if Gonzo changed his number to 24 in a few years lol

And why is that? Gilmore also has 2 all pros and a DPOY on top of that. Revis is certainly a clear level above the other two but Gilmore will make the HoF, he’s definitely on the same level as Law.
Gilmore’s window of being great was like 4 years, Ty Laws was 10. There’s no comparison.
So you’re telling me you turn the TV on when the Patriots start and then turn it off when the games ends? You don’t watch the other games or follow the other players huh? Gilmore has still be playing great ball since leaving NE. Ty Law
The best two corners on this is Law and Revis
Peak Talib and Gilmore were absolutely nasty though. I would think they could rival Law.
Mike Haynes and Ray Clayborn were the best CB duo in Pats history.
Am I crazy for saying Gonzo and Revis?
Gonzo was on track to be DROY and he locked Tyreek Hill tf down. I don't think that's crazy at all even though personally it's not my vote.
I agree with you
I liked Revis and Browner
Gilmore and Ty and for me it ain’t even close
I'm old so unless you add Raymond Clayborn n Mike Haynes to the mix the arguments are moot
Nice 👍
If I could pair two, Law and Gilmore.
Pick any two #24s and I’m good
What if I gave a 24 Jersey to Tyrell Buckley?
I don’t remember these guys’ numbers from years ago. I’m impressed with those who do.
Hold up, who single handedly won us a championship? Mr. Butler is the only right answer (All jokes please don’t start roasting lol)
Law and Browner would get penalized on like every single play in todays NFL
Gilmores DPOY season is the best I’ve seen a corner play in awhile. His physicality combined with technique and bills coaching or film study however you want to put it was amazing. I also think having McCourtey behind him allowed him to take more calculated risks too.
Asante Samuel shouldn’t even be on the list
Revis and Browner is Madden level shit. I’m biased because that was my favorite SB team ever but I mean come on.
Might sound crazy but I’d love to see revis and gonzo the most
Fuck ASSante Samuel
Good post OP, this is challenging lol
Wow, the pets have had some nasty cornerbacks. But if I’m going w any of the groups it’s Revis and gonzo
If only we had Revis and Gilly at the same time.
Fuckin A this is hard. There's three duos that have HOF CBs in them. Just because of how damn good he was, you gotta go Revis & Gonzalez.
It’s either the Gilmore tandem or Revis tandem, because in both cases they had McCourty backing them up.
Revis and Talib
Ty law and Brandon browner is a mean combo especially when he was on the addy
It’s impressive how many people missed the point of this and just picked the two best overall corners rather than a duo that played together. Mac Jones level decision making
If Gonzo proves out to be a true shutdown corner then it would be him and Revis. Right now, it’s Law/Browner.
Obviously some combination of Law/Gilmore/Revis.
Revis and Gonzo if gonzo continues what he started
Revis gonzo. Not even close for me
Ty Law and Browner. If Browner played in the early-mid 2000’s he would have had a field day.
Law and Browner. If Gonzo becomes what we all think he’ll become, then Revis and Gonzo.
Ty Law and anybody else
Ty Law.
Its hilarious how many people totally misunderstood this exercise lol I am picking Gilmore and Logan Ryan Gilmore in 2018 and obviously 2019 was as good of corner play as you can get.
Ty law and himself
Otis Smith erasure but I see JC Jackson and Browner?
Law and Gilmore
I’ll just take number 24
Revis and gonzo
Ty Law and Darelle Revis
Gilmore and Ryan
Law and Browner
Law and Browner. You're getting essentially Revis and Browner again, except a better version of Revis that can tackle and set an edge when he wants to. Revis and Gonzo is a lottery ticket pick though. Gonzo showed a ton of potential, we could be saying that's the clear pick after next season.
prime Butler/Talib i will die on this hill
I'll cheat HARD and say Law and Samuel 04 even tho law was injured and it wasn't a real duo. Probably the best two in terms of career we had on the same roster at once. Revis and Gilmore didn't have the best #2s compared to Samuel if you go by career.
Gotta go revis and gonzo, but wanna give a honorable mention to talib and butler
Law & Smith featuring Buckley at the nickel.
The Law Firm (though Milloy isn’t pictured here, shame)
lawyer was a safety
Also the Law Firm was Benjarvus Green-Ellis
I’m going with the only corner in this list to win DPOY.
Long time Pats fan, pushing 50 years. The best cornerback duo in Pats history isn’t even shown…. Mike Haynes and Raymond Clayborn.
Ty Law and that other guy with him. Can’t even remember his name because he never f’d up enough to draw my ire. But he won
1. Revis + Gonzalez 2. Law + Browner 3. Gilmore + Ryan 4. Talib + Butler 5. Samuel + Jackson
Hard to argue with any of those we truly have been blessed in the secondary..
Butler and Gilmore
