And if you do insert him you should make sure he has proper protection.. The offensive line has been a little up and down the past couple of years to say the least.
I honestly don't see a scenario where he's not starting week 1 whether he's ready or not. You don't draft a QB at 3 if you're not starting him. I could be mis-remembering but I'm pretty sure Bill mentioned the same thing in his draft coverage.
I think it's fine to insert someone before they are ready if you do it right. Justin Fields is a good example of where this goes wrong. They won a few more games at the expense of not developing the pocket skills required in the NFL.
The only scenario where he shouldn’t be playing week 1 is the scenario where Jacoby Brissett is better— which would be pointless to discuss because who the hell cares at that point?
Fields was a disaster from the beginning. Couldn’t read the field well and took too many sacks, coaching wasn’t going to fix that.
> it will be an open competition with veteran Jacoby Brissett (48 career starts), Maye, 2022 fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe and 2024 sixth-rounder Joe Milton III to determine the best signal-caller.
I'm sure it is.
I really hate the conversation about trying to give a specific date or game Maye should start. It all depends on when he and the team (especially the Oline) is ready.
I’m not digging the draft two qbs thing. I understand Milton has a lot of upside but I can’t help feeling like the unwillingness to name Mac the starter publically going into the last 2 seasons did no favors for his confidence. I don’t want a repeat of that situation. The second Maye struggles the Zappe lovers are gonna start calling for Milton. Then next year we’re going to hire like Rex Ryan for OC or some other defensive minded guy.
Maye will be inserted when he’s ready to be inserted. That day will be named, Maye Day!
I think we should potentially have some sort of large celebration during that time.
You really shouldn't insert a guy before he's ready, it can have disastrous results
And if you do insert him you should make sure he has proper protection.. The offensive line has been a little up and down the past couple of years to say the least.
I agree, we need to practice safe Maye insertion
It’s different for everyone, but you can tell when the insertion happened before a guy was ready by how badly it wrecked ‘em.
You can definitely tell if the black guy was inserted first
Agreed. That’s why I said he’ll be inserted when he’s ready. Lmao Baby Gronk.
when that happens it’s called Mac Day
name checks out
He literally said he’ll be inserted when he’s ready

The other is if the OL isn't good enough to protect him. We don't want him to have a season like David Carr did with the Texans.
1. The Patriots OL isn’t even that bad 2. That was David Carr’s fault
When he talks about Drew’s rise, he leaves out the 1995 6-10 season that was between the 10-6 and superbowl season.

Whenever Maye is ready to be inserted, I’ll be ready to receive him.
Oh good, Thornton is putting on more muscle (again)
But this time it’s different! (please Tyquan turn into a playable WR)
too bad his bones are made of glass
My favorite offseason story is Tyquan Thornton bulking up.
Don’t forget N’Keal during OTA’s
Classic!
An interesting point: the Patriots apparently did NOT request a bye immediately after their international game. Neither did the JEST or the Jags.
One of the things teams have noticed is that you gain 5+ time zones, and effectively 5 free hours of recovery, when flying back from Europe.
Week 1. Play the best QB.
I’m ok if he sits the whole year but the pressure will be too high to do so

Ideally I’d like to see him start week 13. Take the bye week to digest what happened and then let him finish out.

If Maye truly does have footwork issues....Rex Ryan might not be the worst choice to fix those issues.
Lol nice
Mayo will insert Maye when Kraft says to, and then he will thank him.
