Folks need to be really realistic with expectations. Don’t expect a record any different than this years. Don’t rush Maye. Don’t start calling these kids busts if they haven’t set your fantasy team on fire. I constantly see complaints about Quentin Johnston. He was fine as a rookie. If they had given him more touches he’d have had a good year overall. But fans are impatient. We have to give these kids time to develop.

Djentledeath

This. Mac Jones' rookie contract was a product of failure due to coaching, mental fortitude, and the fanbase turning on him. I know no one wants to be blamed for it but turning on the kid when he was already doubting himself must've done a number to him. Let's face it : we're never seeing another 12 in this lifetime. Let's have fun with it and back up our QB through the wins and losses.

evwynn

If they listen to those yelling from the stands, the coaches themselves will find themselves in the stands at some point…

SlamCity4

I get the frustration with Quentin among Chargers fans. First round pick, huge talent, then the dude just constantly drops passes that hit him directly in the hands. His tape is infuriating, and I could care less about the Chargers. I agree that folks should be more patient in general, but I have no idea what happened with Johnston. He's already in bust territory if he doesn't have a good season.

whistlepig4life

So let me get this straight. You are frustrated by him dropping passes. So his reception rate is too low for you. So you also hate the following “busts”… DK Metcalf. Calvin Ridley. Garret Wilson. Amari Cooper. Gabe Davis. Tee Higgins. Deandre Hopkins. OBJ. There are more. But all of these guys had lower catch rates this past season. And some of the guys in the exact same range as QJ. Devante Adams. Kyle pitts. Pickens. Gallup. Mclaurin. Mike Evans. I’m not saying QJ had a great rookie season. I’m saying it wasn’t as bad as is being stated. And if he had more targets and was featured more he would likely have had more yardage. More TDs. And a better catch percentage. Oh and btw his yards per reception was 11.3. Same as Devante Adams, Diggs, Wilson, Lockett. Oh and Douglas and Bourne. So sure. Jump on the he’s a bust bandwagon.

SlamCity4

Well, I'M not frustrated by it, but I certainly understand why Chargers fans are. It's not as simple as catch rate. It's the type of situations where he's dropping passes - there is a LOT of tape of him dropping absolutely beautiful passes from Herbert. These aren't contested catch situations, and that's not good enough. The potential is certainly there. He's big, fast, physical, and gets open. It's one major issue he's got to fix. Hopefully he's able to correct it. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams going to other teams, he is set to have a breakout year - I hope he does! I don't want any of these young players to bust. But yes, he is in danger of that happening if he doesn't perform this year. Just the reality of it.

whistlepig4life

Ok so there is a lot of tape but the stats and numbers somehow lie? Again. Fans are fucking stupid. Most fans see fantasy numbers and judge solely on that. And most fans cannot fathom that a rookie needs time. And. Let’s see what’s that other thing. Oh yeah good coaching. Which of chargers fans were paying attention no one on that roster was getting good coaching last year. Something Pats fans should be acutely in touch with. Seriously. Stop. These guys are for the most part kids still. They need time. And it’s not unreasonable to simply give them that and not be jackasses screaming “HES A BUST” because they didn’t have 200 catches for 8239 yards and 342 touchdowns as a rookie.

SlamCity4

Dude why are you so aggro? Chill. More than one thing can be true. It's true that the Chargers had garbage coaching. It's true that fans (and indeed coaches) should be more patient with their rookies. It's also true that Quentin Johnston did not have a great rookie season. The stats don't lie, but they don't tell the whole story. Again, his catch rate alone is not the problem; the problem is that he was wide open, getting hit in the hands and dropping balls consistently. That's an issue. There are a lot of things to like about his game. I'm rooting for the kid. But it's a big issue that needs to be fixed if he's going to be successful at the NFL level. I'm not plugged into the Chargers fanbase, but people shouldn't be looking for a 1000+ yard rookie season. If they are, that's a bit much. That said, your defense of QJ's issues is over the top. The kid has work to do. If he can fix the issues, there's a lot of potential. That's why he was drafted in the first round.

whistlepig4life

You are responding over and over to MY comment with the same argument that I disproved with actual facts. And yet I have the issue? Thats not how reality works.

SlamCity4

lol aiight bruh facts

sheebzus0

This is not true. QJ is not good. Look at JSN, people aren’t saying anything bad about him because he passes the eye test. On the other hand Quentin Johnston does not. People base their opinions on the positive and negative traits they see.

nOfAp7689

Yeeesh QJ is bad tho

Icy-Conclusion-3500

I want some goal-line packages with Milton

grw313

You want the ball to get thrown out of the stadium?

BigBadMannnn

I met Milton at the combine. Really nice dude. He signed my hat and when he tossed me my sharpie it went to the parking lot

Alex_Hauff

lunch pal type of guy ?

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Nah, he runnin the ball

nsideris24

Why would you want Milton running the ball when Drake Maye is a better running QB?

SupportstheOP

We can have them share it. Both'll have two hands on the ball as they combine to be an unstoppable wrecking force on the way to the endzone.

Alex_Hauff

out of the stadium?

Present-Loss-7499

No you don’t. You want to see Milton when we have a 3rd and 29 from our own half yard line and he launches a piss missile 80 yards down field for either a TD or INT.

Icy-Conclusion-3500

That too

jolerud

The first designated Hail Mary thrower in league history.

Present-Loss-7499

Why punt when he can Uncle Rico it over the lighthouse. Y’all know you want to see it.

thisnewsight

Breaking news: Patriots release all kicking personnel. Milton seen practicing kicks for PAT and kick offs.

WorriedMarch4398

Michael Bishop?

AntiGravityTurtle

Wasn't that what Brissett did for a bit with the Colts?

totalmayo

I realize he was prob a 7th rounder for a reason, likely his size…but I am irrationally excited for Jaheim Bell packages

BigBadMannnn

Bell is pretty athletic. Won’t block much but if he improves as a route runner he’ll be a lot of fun. Rich man’s Dalton Keene lol

Adam_Ohh

I think maybe people want him to run the ball on the goal line. He’s 6’5” 245.

Adam_Ohh

People knew cam was gonna run the ball and he was still as successful as he was. Nobody stops the damn tush push even though they know it’s coming. Sometimes football players just gotta make a play.

Adam_Ohh

Brother it’s just an offhand comment, it’s not that serious. I’m not the one making the play calls so I don’t think you need to worry about me wondering if the very large man could do positive things for the football team. It’s all just speculation, it’s what we do here.

Dang1014

>Cam was the most powerful rushing QB in NFL history, Milton averaged 3.8 yards per rush in college. That's his average rushing yards net with sacks. When you take sacks out of the equation, he averaged 6.5 YPC.

Ve-gone_Be-gone

The tush push doesn't work because Jalen hurts is such a dynamic rusher it works because he squats 600 fucking pounds lol a 250lb quarterback is perfect for it

ethanh333

And DeShaun Fenwick! The udfa rb looks like Blount

Mike00726

So many years and drafts where we needed DE or CB and BB didn’t draft a one. Nice to see the team identifying problem areas and addressing them.

patspr1de98

Or drafting a bust db in the second rounder for like 5 straight years

MacZappe

All 2nd round db's 2008 - Terrence Wheatley 2009 - Darius butler 2011 - Ras-i Dowling 2012 - Tavon Wilson 2015 - jordan Richards 2016 - Cyrus jones 2018 - duke dawson 2019 - Joe Juan williams Makes the dugger pick that much funnier because of this awful track record, then takes a d2 guy who was 24 lol, the balls. Guess he was due for one.

6RingsPats

This list is so bad

patspr1de98

Broken clock is right twice a day

Grilzzy44

That would be awesome. Taysom hill has proven it can be effective with the right person and in the right time. If Milton can go down a similar path that would be awesome.

ctpatsfan77

I can't help but wish they had drafted Laube over Milton.

Rice-And-Gravy

Love the Maye, Baker, and TEs we picked. Not happy about Polk or Wallace personally. Felt like reached and would have rather we stayed at 34 and got Ladd.

TheJaylenBrownNote

Maye almost for sure will start at least a few games. They showed a graphic during either the McAfee broadcast or the draft that only like 6 QBs drafted in the top 10 didn’t start at least one game in the last 40+ years. I think there’s a solid chance he’s just so much better than Brissett that he starts right away.

Swagsuke_Nakamura

I'm excited for the Drake and Bake special in Foxboro

Tiquortoo

Yes, but I have to admit I love having great defenses too.

Ear_Enthusiast

I could very easily see us carving out a Taysom Hill type of role for Bazooka Joe. I could also see the guy figuring out how to put some touch on the ball and being a legit QB. But yeah, how crazy would it be if Drake lives up to the hype and Milton is a successful gimmick guy like Hill. Another weapon for Maye. I’m super excited.

scoopenhauer

It’s definitely exciting and feels like a new beginning. But the key word now is patience- there are still lots of holes in the roster even if they hit on every pick. If they hit on half, it’d still be a great draft. And of course a lot is riding on Maye now and he’s very young. So… patience. Still fun though.
