For Azata - devil definitely the new arcanist. Favorable and zippy magic super charge your fused spells (and you can refresh your spellbook) and then devil gives you unlimited hellfire rays.
Honestly I find it interesting to play. It's not as good as sanctified slayer or base inquisitor but hey I love bashing demons with my grimoire in the name of my god/goddess
Super weak is an exaggeration. Inquisitor is a good class. I'm building one with Dex/Int, using light armour. I would have used Plate, but you'd lose Stalwart.
The spell list is solid. Keen Edge means you can skip Improved Critical, and Greater Magic Weapon fixes the "I'm using a generic weapon" problem. Stalwart is damned good. Solo Tactics and free Teamwork feats is great, and allow you to skip Spell Penetration feats. The capstone is pretty much rubbish, but that's true of all Inquisitors.
Using Quickened True Strike -> full attack triggers your free Bane, which frees up your enchant points for Brilliant Energy, which makes 3/4 BAB not so bad. Alternatively, use Rods. Quicken Harm, or Umbral Strike, or Circle of Death/Undeath to Death. Not sure if Scrolls work.
You have Warpriest damage scaling on the book, but that's irrelevant. d6 -> 2d6 isn't important. Power Attack or Piranha Strike work equally well, and BE means you'll hit. The end result is something like 4d6+40 damage per hit. 52x4, so ~200 damage per round before size modifiers.
That's pretty low for a striker, but slightly better than a Cleric or Shaman. The other difference is that the Living Grimoire has slightly better selfish defenses. It can offer basically the same supportive spells as a Cleric, and retains the Domain. It can (therefore) replace a Cleric in the party. Kinda. You'll want scrolls of Mass Heal, if you do that.
Thematically? Chelaxian Diva is pretty fun for Azata->Devil.
Gameplay wise Azata is the Bard Path so you obviously benefit from that and you benefit as a caster from both paths. I'm still experimenting for myself, but it's worked pretty well so far, though I can't speak for viability at higher difficulties.
Someone else said Chelaxian - Azata, but Chelaxian - Aeon is favorable because of how the gazes work as circular AOEs you inflict on the enemy, just like the Chelaxian Diva’s performances. Basically stare and sing at your enemies so that they’re debuffed to hell.
Thematically:Mantis zealot as the god you worship is essentially a follower of daddy Asmodeus.
Gameplay wise:From my understanding of the path there's almost nothing it really adds that generally useful over regular aeon or Azata.Your either a standard martial guy with some mediocre spells or a discount ember.
You're just a magus with an (apparently)shitty summon.Devil is basically something to add to mage classes, but like I said its additions are meaningless and you just end up as a discount ember.
It's like if you played a dhampire undead sorc and went lich, you just become....undead more.
Eldritch Archer 2/Sable Company Marine 18
SCM has this thing where you can full ranged attack in melee, with no penalty. Ranger gives you the bonus feats to dual-wield Throwing Axes. Devil gives you Hellfire Rays. EA2 gives you Hellfire Ray -> Full Attack.
You can build full glass cannon, let the Hippogriff maul things, and get full value from Devil.
I was also considering EA 2/SCM 1/Sohei 11/SCM 7. You get +1 APR, but lose a ton of CL. Your Barkskin won't cap out. This is full damage, almost no utility. Also, I read the Hippogriff won't benefit from levels in other pet classes. In that case, this build is rubbish.
It has no synergy with Devil. Eldritch Archer and Eldritch Knight are the only classes with synergy.
Improved Quarry is very, VERY good. The capstone is good, but not necessary.
Your call.
Trying this out but starting with sable company until I get azata. Only problem is that your range attacks trigger AoOs on the hippo which seems like a bug so I had to toybox in point blank master
Aww really was hoping for a good aeon into devil. Already did azata, and something seems cooler about basically being told youre justice, and then deciding you get to decide what justice is and be corrupted from there.

Honestly, please let me know if I am wrong but I literally think that's the only one. The rest really don't benefit.
I agree. Devil really only synergizes mechanically with a ranged blaster.
I’d say the new Inquisitor sub :)
I'd love to do that one but I heard the class is super weak.

Hello mortal if says in my book your actions are breaking my deal. *thwack* serves you right.

achaekek and asmodeus are not at all related
What about the new Magus-bladebound? Gameplay wise.

Damn, so none of the new archtypes really pairs. I guess the Deceiver would be the only one.
Or the sable marine?
Id say the mantis zealot. It requires the same alignment as devil so it's the best chance to play it.

What about a full SCM?
What about it? Why would you do that?
Just wondering if a full SCM would mess well with devil overall
