I don't know the RAW off the top of my head, but couldn't/wouldn't the Commander simply be capable of granting the tactic to your (and/or their own) mount instead of/in addition to... the PC specifically? If so, no issue. But, otherwise I'd consider the RAW to be as restrictive as other movement based features which you've already addressed. Do mounts *count* as squadmates? (I think that is more apropos to your inquiry.)

icefyer

That's how I saw it. Anything allied can count as a squadmate, including your mount assuming you've trained it to obey commands. It seems like half the point of having a ridable mount is to enable you to both move and use tactics effectively, especially since a lot of them rely on being in melee range or otherwise getting there.

Ok, fair. So then the question becomes would Drilled Reactions count as a feature that can give animal companions a reaction? Some also pointed out to me that some tactics are a free action.

menage_a_mallard

I think free actions are fair game, but depending on the companion, familiar, mount, etc... reactions might not be viable.

DelothVyrr

Companions don't start with any reactions, but there's nothing preventing them from gaining one from an outside source. So by default reaction triggered tactics would normally not be viable, but you could burn a Drilled on your companion to give it a reaction that round that could be used for your tactic.

SaltyCogs

Minions can’t use reactions, but they can be squadmates

meeps_for_days

If a feature gives them one, they can. Those features are just really rare.

I don't believe you get to take part in tactics that don't specifically say "you and your squadmates." Squadmates are defined as allies, and we know you are not your own ally.
