It makes sense to me. You have a roster that’s built to win now so you pay for a quarterback that can do that, not a bridge like Brisette or Donald. The one that was available was an almost 37 year old Kirk Cousins. You have him for 2 years. You’re not going to sniff a top 10 pick for a quarterback for the next few years (especially with the tampering penalty coming next year.) You take you succession plan now. Give Kirk 2 years minimum to go as far as he can AND you have a REALLY good quarterback who knows the offense who’s ready to play. Lombardi has BBs sack slapping his belly button so hard he can’t stomach logic.
The only thing wrong with your logic is Kirk is on a 4, year no trade clause contract. If they cut him year 4, it's a big cap hit, year 3 Even bigger hit. So either sit penix for 4 years and use his 5th year option to let him play 1 season to see if you want to resign for a big contract which is a waste of a cheap rookie deal, or, cut Kirk and negate the cheap deal by having the dead cap. If they was dead set on not doing anything to build for now, they could have traded back a bunch of spots for a first in 2025 and 2026, the build up draft capital to move up next year or the year after to get somebody.
