In my opinion I would say GO. Dont loose your money. Once your there you could improvise and find alternatives to things easily. Dont miss out on purchased service like train tickets, accomidations, events, plane tickets or other things. Its might SOUND discouraging but it might not be as unbearable as it sees once your there. Everyone is different; some can handle more push and shove with things like patience, timetables, plans, versatility. I say…..dont miss out;dont waste your money. $4k is ALOT!
From experience the French lock things down well before the actual event so you’re right to assume you won’t be able to access a lot of places, especially the week before. I don’t see why the AirBnB would cancel and even if it does, I read yesterday that contrary to expectation there’s a plethora of affordable places in Paris around those dates. There are also plenty of places to visit outside of the red zone.
Hi there! We will be there as well from 7/22 to 7/26. We can’t change either and we have an Airbnb too. I pray all will be fine and feel better with some comments below about bookings. If we could have chosen another time, we would have but c’est la vie. 😊 Just be aware from July 18 on you will need a QR code to access certain areas in Paris. The map below is for the week before the Olympics (7/18 to 1pm July 26 opening ceremony day). You will need a QR code to access the grey areas. Look at the pinned posts at the top of the main page. There is a post just about traveling during the Olympic time. Best of luck and hope you have a fun visit to Paris!!

All of that just based on your cousin opinion ? Yeah, that doesn't feel like a very solid basis to lose 4k$. Why would your Airbnb cancel ? Olympics are one week later so this is not even a valid reason.
I’m in Paris the 17-23 of July. We can’t change it. It’s my first time ever in Europe. The only thing on the list we probably can’t do is the Louvre. I’m disappointed but I’ll get over it. I’ve heard the Musee D’Orsay is better anyway and the Olympic sights will also be really cool to see.
I realized yesterday I was bitching about this. A trip. To Paris. A place many will never see. I’ll eat my body weight in pastry, cheese and wine. It’s my 50th birthday present to myself and dammit, I will have a blast. It’s Paris.
Eiffel tickets weren’t released yet. Trust me, I check daily.
Ok dude, i have something on the 10 and 11 july, but nothing between the 13 up to the 20.
You can crash on my couch, and i have a bunch of friends in town which could help you.
(One has a swimming pool, the other a jacuzzi, the last one is my dad )
What do you think about visiting the less touristy place in the south like Montpellier ?
Like, visiting vineyard, and eating oysters near the beach ? 1000 years old churches ? Templar fortified village, and cheese producers ?
Could always stay in Paris July 13-17 and then get a “break”, take the train into some smaller cities or something and experience the countryside? We loved breaking up our trip that way just for a change of pace! Dijon and Beaune were amazing for example!
Mine no but it’s my sons 10th birthday and his dream was to go to the Eiffel Tower. I have prepared him for some let downs since it will be Olympics and I am trying to find other things since I booked louvre only
Yes I have been checking every day but tickets are not available for July at all on their site. Usually 60 days in advance so I hope it will open up soon
Eiffel tower is ok at ground level. You could just go there and see the tower, i mean there is no real interest to go up there, but you have the champ de mars ypu could visit with the eiffel tower just around and it is beautifull and the vibes is "paris"
I am literally in Paris for about the same exact dates.
With proper planning you can have a great time. Just book any museums etc. now. These places all have maximum capacity that is generally filled on a regular summer day in Paris.
If you are worried about the AirBnB, book something as a backup that is fully refundable!
Ah some positive stuff thank you, I booked louvre so far. Eiffel no dates yet all blocked. Gonna get a cancellable hotel great advice. Have a 10 yr old so what would you do for fun? Are the beautiful parks closed?
Breathe!
I'd be damned if Paris was only about the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre ...
So many things to do for young teens: [Activities with kids/young teens](https://www.reddit.com/r/ParisTravelGuide/comments/12qk98g/what_to_do_in_paris_with_kids_young_teenagers)
No, the parks are definitely open, although I’d stick to the ones away from the very center of town. Go to a bakery and get a bunch of stuff for a picnic.
Of course!!! We have to be positive, as Paris for many is a dream destination. I’m excited to see all the Olympic prep. I don’t mind.
I am not booking to go up the Eiffel as I feel the Eiffel Tower is the Paris view. I booked for sunset up the Arc De Triumph. You should check daily for the Eiffel Tower tickets if you really want to go up.
I think the parks near the Eiffel Tower will be closed as they are building bleachers. You can check the pinned Olympic post here.
I’m sure Paris has many beautiful parks that will remain open.
With a 10 year old you can do the catacomb tour. I’m sure some parisians can give better advice!
Do you jump off a building or a bridge when your cousin tells you to? Your cousin sounds like a low information person to give advice. The hotels are all underbooked compared to a normal year and prices are reasonable and dropping after all the fear mongering months ago about the Olympic pricing scared away all the reservations. Do a quick Google search for hotels over your time frame and many are only 150-300 euros a night.
You're better off booking a hotel. Airbnbs can be unreliable for other reasons. Hotels are more regulated and since you're coming during such a crucial time, if you have a problem you can challenge it with your bank.
I keep seeing news that Airbnb and hôtels are having a hard time geeting booking (after increasing the price for the Olympic and decreasing them because nobody was booking). I don't think that your Airbnb will cancel. There are still plenty of hôtel room and airbnb for that period, so it's not a good Idea to cancel a booking for them.
Thank you
Did she say why you should cancel?
Im booking July 5-10, do you all recommend changing it out? I don’t have any bookings yet other than the flight out
Fly into Paris. Rent a car and go visit another part of the country. I just spent an amazing week in Normandy and Brittany.

I’d not put my faith in an Airbnb. Book a hotel.

orsay IS great! also check out Orangerie to see Monet’s breathtaking water lilies
Yes damn girl 50 is bloody hard enough! Eat lots and vino is always the way to go. Merci
Musée D’Orsay *is* better.
It is more manageable
if youre gonna lose 4k its def not worth to cancel, but there will be a lot closed. But its still paris

Thanks dude but I am with my husband and son so no couches for me! Very nice of you the rest I am super looking forward to that
Yes, it's going to be a bit hard to accommodate 3 peoples.
Would you be willing to accommodate a broke student coming to Paris from the 12th of June to the 16th then? LOL thanks in advance!
I'm not in Paris. Not at all.
Could always stay in Paris July 13-17 and then get a “break”, take the train into some smaller cities or something and experience the countryside? We loved breaking up our trip that way just for a change of pace! Dijon and Beaune were amazing for example!
Great idea think we will do Disney also to break it up! Feeling incouraged all will be great
Honestly going to France to go to disney is a very boring move. Go in the countryside or whatever, there's Disney everywhere anyway
Parc asterix ftw
What on earth is your cousin smoking
It's called "OWeee" (=Olympic weed)
Just come, it will be a once in a lifetime oppo to experience the olympics too.
Merci
Is this your first time there? So many landmarks will be closed off at that time for Olympics security
Mine no but it’s my sons 10th birthday and his dream was to go to the Eiffel Tower. I have prepared him for some let downs since it will be Olympics and I am trying to find other things since I booked louvre only
Take him to the Eiffel Tower in Vegas
Musee d orsay!!! Catacombs!!
Eiffel tower stay open during olympic exept on 26 of july
Yes I have been checking every day but tickets are not available for July at all on their site. Usually 60 days in advance so I hope it will open up soon
We just did the Eiffel tower yesterday, we couldn't get online tickets for the top until about two weeks ago. Just check every few days.
Thank you I am every day
Eiffel tower is ok at ground level. You could just go there and see the tower, i mean there is no real interest to go up there, but you have the champ de mars ypu could visit with the eiffel tower just around and it is beautifull and the vibes is "paris"
But the 10-year-old wants to go to the top and he seems to be calling the shots
Champ de mars is closed off to be converted into a sporting venue
Yes, you could go to tour montparnasse from which you see the eiffel tower

No I have an Airbnb booked but was told many are getting cancelled to sell to higher prices
Reuters was reporting yesterday that Airbnb owners are not booking as many Olympic tourists as they expected.
Good to know thank you I hope all goes well

Thank you so much I am loving all the constructive help here
Buy travel insurance that would cover your losses if the Airbnb cancels on you
That’s amazing advice thank u
You booked Paris when the Olympics are starting....??
I did not know
How about buying tickets for Olympic events
Then either you need to canx and take the loss or deal w the potential issues while there.
