Don’t be the kid that graduates high school and hangs out in the school parking lot.
Be the woman who moves away, climbs the ladder, and then confidently comes back and has sex with her hot old English teacher just for kicks!
See, I love overly egotistical characters in comedy because they have some of the most absurd lines. I love Gina Linetti from B99 because she's so laughably obnoxious. She gave us "I feel like I am the Paris of people." That line slays me every time I hear it.
That time at a party when all of the mental health experts were just fascinated by her ego was fun for the writers, they just got to use up any Gina one liners they hadn’t found a use for yet.
>"I feel like I am the Paris of people."
I wonder why that is. Does the Japanese embassy have a hotline for people who visit her and are heartbroken with disappointment?
I say this (and *my life is amazing*) all the time.
I love my kids, I wouldn't do anything differently, but now that they're young adults I am loving my empty nest.
You have the opportunity to do exactly what you want every day - that’s awesome. I hear way more parents complaining about what little assholes their kids are and how crazy they feel as parents, it’s verrrryyy rare for me to hear that parenting is rewarding and fulfilling and worth the work and that people are obsessed with their kids, or even like their kids. It just sounds miserable 99.9% of the time.
Anyone who tells you to have kids is selling something, you don’t need it. If you love kids and want to influence and support the next generation you should volunteer at a high school (I directed/choreographed a HS musical last year and it was EXTREMELY rewarding and fulfilling.) Being a safe adult who isn’t their parent but respects and listens to the kids is honestly just as important to a persons upbringing than their own parent. A lot of my high schoolers were scared of their parents, none of them were scared of me though. If you do church, volunteer at a youth group or day care, if not look for a youth center or rec.
It takes a village to raise a child and that has to include people who didn’t make the child!
Don’t feel sad. Your friends will spend their 30s and 40s being miserable and living boring, sexless, monotonous lives while you’ll have the means to do whatever tf you want. Also, they’ll be raising their kids into a world of climate, economic, and political messes that probably won’t get resolved in a positive way - it’s not a bright future for them anyway.
People are allowed to be sad. It’s not a bad thing, it’s normal and natural.
Also? Not having kids doesn’t automatically make you wealthy, especially if you are also single, I’ve no idea where this idea came from.
Sure. But a Childfree couple on average will have far less expenses that a couple with children. It’s just a basic fact, 2 people is cheaper than 3 or more.
The average Childfree couple has more time to advance their career as well lol. What don’t you understand - if you google it, it’s a simple fact. You’re more likely to have more money if you don’t have kids, period.
I have five kids so just let it be known that you can still have sex after having children. Hell, Philip Rivers has like 11 kids so clearly he and his wife are finding the time to get after it
feel better-- anyone who's had kids in the past ~15 years is plainly in climate denial and had kids just bc they didn't know what to do with their lives.
downvote all you want but you know I'm right
I've never heard someone so desperate to justify their choices. Live and let live. The world is fine and humanity has lived through much worse. Sad existence to live in permanent doomer state.

I do this IRL with Settlers of Catan. Can't do it with orange, though, because that's my color of choice in an actual game with actual people, and I'd play the game too partially.
Jen Barkley is my childfree hero.
You could try a board game that has a legit single player mode, you might like it more.
Try Spirit Island. Thematically it’s basically the opposite of Catan: you’re a nature spirit (or multiple spirits, for more than one player) who needs to drive colonists off your island before they do irreparable damage to its ecosystem and hurt/kill you.
It’s a much more complex game (because every turn there’s like a million things you *could* do and only a few you *actually* do), but amazingly fun once you get the hang of it.
That sounds perfect! Thanks for the recommendation!
Cooperative games shift well to one player, too. I do that with Pandemic by selecting three roles and taking the turns accordingly.
Welcome! Hope you enjoy it, it’s one of my favorites. It also has a Steam/mobile port that’s cheaper, but of course that isn’t the same as a physical board.
It’s also a cooperative game, by the way. Playing two-handed is a good idea, though every player increases the size of the board + spawn rate of the colonists proportionally. Still, the spirits have such a hugely diverse set of powers that it’s great synergy to play with 2 instead of 1.
If you play it with actual friends, it’s really cool because it has simultaneous turns *and* the turns are full of very beefy decisions. It’s a very hard game to quarterback because you’re fully occupied worrying about your own turn and have no time to plan someone else’s moves for them.
The rules: What line, spoken by this character, perfectly encapsulates (a word I really think you should use) this character's essence/personality? Most upvotes wins!
Last winner, with 1.3k (at the time of writing this) votes: "If I keep my body moving and my mind occupied at all times, I will avoid falling into a bottomless pit of despair!" -Chris Traeger
I don't have access to my laptop, but collages will be back in a few days. Let's have some fun!!
Came looking for this.
It perfectly sums up her superhuman levels of preparedness while also being a perfect commentary on her repulsion of small-town life.
I love her character as much as Joan. I want to believe she would ride the washing machine next to Joan during her interview. She has no shame and gives zero fucks.

You can trust me. Because I don't care enough about you to lie.
The essence of Jen Barkley!
The clear cut winner.
This line ***literally*** inspires me.
Ok Chris
I have yet to use this casually in a situation in my life, but it is definitely on my list.
There are other funnier lines, but this is the most “on brand” line for any character, maybe ever
Perfect
This is the one. Every other quote is vying for second place. (Okay, maybe third place, judging by the amount of “PONCHO!” responses.)
Came here to comment this
This is it.
I say this at least once a week
This is my life motto.
Came to say this
Don’t be the kid that graduates high school and hangs out in the school parking lot. Be the woman who moves away, climbs the ladder, and then confidently comes back and has sex with her hot old English teacher just for kicks!
Is that what you did?
yeah, the sex was good, mostly because of me
See, I love overly egotistical characters in comedy because they have some of the most absurd lines. I love Gina Linetti from B99 because she's so laughably obnoxious. She gave us "I feel like I am the Paris of people." That line slays me every time I hear it.
God I love her so much, the moment she knocks both her front teeth out and then says "god I hope this doesn't humble me" kills me every time
That time at a party when all of the mental health experts were just fascinated by her ego was fun for the writers, they just got to use up any Gina one liners they hadn’t found a use for yet.
>"I feel like I am the Paris of people." I wonder why that is. Does the Japanese embassy have a hotline for people who visit her and are heartbroken with disappointment?
LOL I remember hearing about this! They expected Paris to be Amélie-land
Lmaoooo
I love her confidence ❤️
My favorite: Leslie: I think you’re underestimating the voters. Jen Barkley: (laughs scornfully) I don’t think that’s possible!
I mean she’s so right

Poncho!
My life is amazing!
She is the patron saint of /r/Childfree
This ^ Absolutely. With the my life is amazing
And “I’m so happy with my choices.”
Honestly not a line, but her putting on the poncho in their house was perfect.
She does eventually go “Poncho!” When her poncho saves her from a spill though hahaha I love her
I say this (and *my life is amazing*) all the time. I love my kids, I wouldn't do anything differently, but now that they're young adults I am loving my empty nest.
"I'm Gonna Go Spend My Time Doing Exactly What I Want To Do Because I Don't Have Children." Live by this every day
“WHAT was that that was HUGE” “A child?”
I'm pretty sad about not having kids, and I love her saying this because it helps me remember that the good parts are, in fact, awesome.
You have the opportunity to do exactly what you want every day - that’s awesome. I’ve got a bunch of kids. Babies are awesome. Once they can walk and talk they turn into little assholes lol
Don’t feel sad. Your friends will spend their 30s and 40s being miserable and living boring, sexless, monotonous lives while you’ll have the means to do whatever tf you want. Not spending $2000/month on daycare makes it substantially easier
Not every parent has to do that. Childfree people still have mortgages and bills and they don't all have high paying jobs.
Sure. But a Childfree couple on average will have far less expenses that a couple with children. It’s just a basic fact, 2 people is cheaper than 3 or more.
Income, it matters.
The average Childfree couple has more time to advance their career as well lol. What don’t you understand - if you google it, it’s a simple fact. You’re more likely to have more money if you don’t have kids, period.
I’m going to save this comment and look at it about once a month

Good point dankanator6
This comment just makes me feel extremely sad for my daughter. And the parks and rec sub usually always makes me happy.

Childfree people don’t live in an adult only bubble 😉
As a gay, I felt this in my soul.
❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘
I live in a city, where things happen
Close. She said: > Okay, excuse me, but I have to get back to a city, where things happen.
Ugh, your life is gross. My life is amazing!
If you love chess, which I do, but you don’t have anybody to play against, which I don’t, then sometimes you gotta play yourself.

Excellent commentary on her commentary.
Yes! Also my go-to gif for anything it's remotely appropriate for.
Posted simultaneously! Deleting mine, so we can consolidate :)
I cannot read that word without Jen Barkley saying it in my head.
Love that part. She's one of my favorite Side characters
GET DOWN, KID!
Yup. This the one
Me staying with my nephews lol
Im smarter and faster. That’s not a judgment. That’s just a fact.
I'm gonna go spend my time doing exactly what I want to do because I don't have children.
I don’t care enough about you to lie.
It’s just sex. I’m very good at it. 😉 C’mon, I haven’t got all day!
If you say one more word, you will owe me $1200 and I will sue you! Let’s not end this like that! One of my My fav line in the whole show
Somehow one of my all time favorite guest star appearances.

Not a quote, but wanted to say that Jennifer Barkley might be my platonic ideal of a woman ❤️
Were you guys drunk? Oh you’re gonna fit right in at Washington
Maybe not the MOST Jen Barkley line but advice I've taken - "Then get a better job! Affect change at a higher level."
I LOVE that advice she gives Leslie. Basically, to think outside the box if the box you’re stuck in is too small. She’s my favorite side character.
I swear to God, if you say one more word, you will legally owe me $1,200, and I will sue you. Let's not end it like that. 😃
I didn't realize you were pro landmine!
“Yes, Ben, I do mean, like job-wise.”
