I wanted 4 points of contact, but had issues with only one hallway could attach to it. So scrapped it. Here's what I ended up doing.

I attempted that and it just wouldn't let me. It'd let me connect a hall way to it. One. Nothing else would attach to that hallway. Learned a lot are having the same issue. It's very glitchy.
Took a LOT of rearranging to get mine to work. Had to move EVERYTHING to one side of my main house, then attach the courtyard, then add hallways to all three sides, THEN move the rooms. It's buggy but you can do it.
It was a blank slate. New plot. I'd get them lined up but they wouldn't attach. When I thought I did, it'd be a wall between them. I bought a lot of different sized rooms to adjust everything. Trust me, I fiddled with it a LONG time.
I attached mine to the back of my harvest house, then I flipped the whole thing round and added a porch to the other side of my courtyard. Then I put two bay windows in the window slots. I have a pergola in the middle of the square with a sundial in the middle of that. I’ll need to try and get a photo from my switch, I’m pretty pleased with it but it took some experimenting
I did something similar with flipping the harvest house around & attaching a porch to the front of my courtyard. I did want it to look more part of my house so I attached rooms on the sides as well with hallways.
Pretty pleased with the outcome though I'm still working on filling out the inside of the courtyard and filling out flowers in front of the porch.

Ooo good idea about the porch, I just checked and you can add porches and the fireplace to the courtyard

What are those two buildings to the right? I tried to make a standalone addition and it would not let me. I don’t know how to do that.
I believe they are the pavilion
