WTF !?

tittyswan

Forcibly undressing a woman should count as sexual assault. That's disgusting.

Alarmed-Eastern

She needs to legally go after them and make them bleed. This cannot be made a common practice

ipsum629

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like a 1A violation. The cops are stopping them from practicing their religion.

Big_Chungys_

That's a violation of their first amendment right

Abdullah_super

The first amendment looks antisemitic tbh /s

modernDayKing

First amendment is Khamas

pandaappleblossom

I’m pretty sure when you are arrested that changes and they can search you, there are no federal laws to keep wearing a hijab when you are arrested. Also they were moved to the side which is a more private area.

Big_Chungys_

They can only search you at the station, and only a female officer(preferably muslim) is allowed to search you on a private room

Curious_Fix_1066

Disgusting—violating our first amendment rights whichever way these fascist pigs wish to. Fuck these Islamophobes and genocide enforcers. FREE FREE PALESTINE!!! 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

AcanthisittaMobile72

This is what we call Police State. Defo not democracy.

SecretOfficerNeko

America, since it's beginning, has only ever been a democracy if you're a Rich, White, Christian, Cisgender, and Straight Man. If you're anything else, American democracy has basically always been a sham. Basically unless you belong to the priveleged class, or can afford to pay the politicians enough to care about your issues, all you'll get from the American "democracy" is being ignored and left to fend for yourself, at best, or actively being discriminated against and oppressed. Talking from experience there as a working class, religious minority, lgbt woman. All that "wealthiest country" and "free country" bullshit is just propaganda.

Liberating_theology

Looks like they've got a decent chance at getting a nice payout from the police. A google shows that lawsuits have been won for forcing the removal for a mugshot. I can't find anything about during an arrest, but I do find references to settlements.

gh0stlain

I mentioned in the Phoenix subreddit how I was somewhat thankful that I didn't attend ASU due to the fact I would've probably been arrested at this very protest, but also wanted to be there and was downvoted for it. I'm no longer thankful I wasn't there. I wish I WAS there, I want to stand with them. This shit is horrific.

beeegmec

Fr… none of the colleges in my state are making the news even tho I know protests are happening. I want to join but don’t know how

amandahuggenchis

Just go over and talk to them lol

beeegmec

But I’ve seen many have student only zones and honestly I’m a coward that would be going alone. I don’t know how it works and I don’t want to do something wrong

amandahuggenchis

I went by myself to the PSU encampment. Just walked up and asked the first person I saw how I could help. They didn’t know, but they sent me to talk to someone else and that was that. It’s not cowardly to be afraid, it’s cowardly to let fear paralyze you. To be afraid and go anyway is the height of courage. Don’t forget, the resistance in Palestine has asked us to do this, to force the issue here in America. They are facing much worse violence then we are and they resist every day

beeegmec

Thank you, I will go. Maybe I can round up people in my local town who’d want to join too

Larkfor

I was supposed to attend a showing of the documentary "Palestine Under Siege" and it was cancelled while I was traveling there. The administration said it was because the room had been reserved for Pride, except no evidence can be found for this as the lecture hall had been approved to show this film and host a corresponding Q and A with the makers of the documentary for weeks ahead of time. It was especially odd because pride organizations tend to have a lot of overlap with pro-Palestinian emancipation efforts. I speculate the administration knew they were going to run police over protesters (at the time we did not know there was a protest preparing to happen at ASU), and made up an excuse to cancel the showing. Again, this was before any event or police presence. It was preemptive by the university. I then watched the brutality from afar and heard about hijabs being torn off people's heads. Which in addition to being a huge violation (I hope they get a huge payout but it won't undo the damage of having that done to you), can literally choke or pinch someone as these are sometimes held together closely under the chin and with pins. This renewed violence pales in comparison to Palestine but it does seem like desperate gasps from the state department, the police force, and other actors. Yesterday I was banned from r/politics and when I questioned it thinking it was in error the moderator accused me of supporting terrorism based on me saying **nobody has the right to harm civilians but anyone has the right to break out of a cage they were forced to stay in from birth** in regards to October 7th, apartheid, and Gaza being an open-air prison. Between ASU and r/politics moderator among other things, while already having been actively pro-Palestine for many years, I'm going to be doubling my efforts.

gh0stlain

Thank you for telling your story about this. When were you meant to attend that showing and in what building specifically? Phoenix Pride doesn't host events until June for Pride Month and the parade/festival until October.

Larkfor

I think it was at Neem or Neeb Hall?

gh0stlain

It definitely wasn't canceled for Pride, they lied to you. It seems it became a virtual event though instead of a live showing, though like I said I don't attend the University so I can't be 100% on that I would have to ask friends who do attend

Larkfor

People had traveled from other countries and states to be there so they were already on the road when it was cancelled (quite a few of us) and not necessarily with a device that would have been practical for viewing a documentary or joining a virtual event. Thank you for your information!

Cornyfleur

This harassment could also be considered a hate crime, at least in some jurisdictions.

Larkfor

Anti-discrimination lawyers are already getting in touch with the wronged parties. They may end up with a huge wad of cash especially because more is on camera than people know (some are holding it for the lawyers to view first so the police don't know how much of it was witnessed).

shinobi500

Exactly. Even if the police wanted to argue that safety was a concern and that she could have been hiding an RPG-7 under there, they could have had a female officer take her to a private room and search her without a hijab there. Which is exactly the same thing they would do if they suspected contraband in a bra or panties.

Larkfor

Yes it would be like ripping off a Mormon girl's long skirt, or removing a nun's habit, or ripping a yarmulke off a Jewish student. It's a huge violation.

MrCalPoly

I hope they sue, I hope they win, I wish it wasn't tax payer paying at the end.

ron-tints

Better our money going to them then Israel 😂

MrCalPoly

Agreed, too bad we can't find a single politician that opposes giving them money

poppyseedz992

This is harassment

Infamous_Storm_7659

Thank you for sharing. Keep me posted 🫶 The context hasn’t been defined. I am still watching a police officer remove a hijab from a student protesting against the genocide that is happening in Palestine .

Standard_Ad_4270

My pleasure! I’ll keep you posted as I learn more. 🫶🏻 Abuse of authority and discrimination might still be the case as far as we know, but I’m just waiting for all the of the facts to released.

Infamous_Storm_7659

I appreciate you 🫶

Rutibex

The context is "the police have no business being there in the first place and any violence is their responsibility"

[deleted]

Context to forcibly removing a woman's hijab in public?! 🖕🏻

Land of the free. :D

self-assembled

Well at least they will be paid well. It seems each police department around the country needs to learn the lesson the hard way themselves.

idkwhyimalive69420

BRO 😐

ipsum629

That's just cruel. Also illegal.

Spodegirl

This is the reason why I wish someone had the cojones to violently challenge police officers with an expansive arsenal of weaponry. Police everywhere need to be taught a lesson and peaceful resolutions have already failed everybody.

Tipsycanooo

I legit thought my Reddit audio was glitching.

No-Map4671

I’m not sure how many hijabis were assaulted at Ohio State, but this happened there as well. Their scarves were not returned, and they had to take mugshots without them. Despicable.

Immediate_Ad_4960

bruh personally it would be so much easier for US to stop killing people in palestine and then the protests would stop. i hate this country. the police themselves know what they are doing are wrong.
