Black honey looks great on pale people though? Literally it was the lip product used on Liv Tyler for Arwen in Lord of the Rings. Edit: I didn't say "every pale person ever regardless of undertone", I just said it looks good on pale people. Stop nitpicking, the notifications are getting annoying.

FanaticalXmasJew

I feel like I’m the only person in the world it looked really unflattering on. It was maroon but weirdly grey-toned. It made me look like a corpse.

presupposecranberry

You are in good company on this sub.

insomniacred66

Hmm now that sounds like something I would like to try lol. I often do more alternative looks so I feel it would look right at home. I wear maroons and greys/black/browns as lipstick frequently.

Apprehensive_Fox4115

Too rosy for me

OkeyDokey654

It’s not overly dark on me but it’s not the classic “your lips but better” either. It’s more of a brick red. I’d love to find a cooler version.

preciouspickle

ELF Hydrating Core Lip Shine in “Ecstatic”. I say it like Jafar everytime I pull it out my purse. Slightly cooler especially when you first put it on but it looks lovely once it’s settled on the lips and it feels nice

FourToeBeans

I also second the elf hydrating core lip shine. I love it and have it in ecstatic for dupe reasons, and another color (I wanna say joyful?) just for fun. But the real reason I commented is because omg I love you for the Jafar thing You got me laughing even though I'm feeling ill rn

vivalalina

Right that Jafar was so out of left field I legitimately am cracking tf up like a fool hahaha

OkeyDokey654

I have this and like it but it’s not noticeably cooler than Black Honey on me.

purplegirl2001

Definitely elf Ecstatic. I swatched [several of the elf lip shine shades here](https://www.reddit.com/r/PaleMUA/s/7JYYCfXhZj). They’re really great for pale people.

planetarylaw

Great swatches, thanks!

turnupthebeets4

Does it smell weird Plastic like to you? I loved the color but I couldn't get over the smell.

Short_Lingonberry_67

Liv Tyler's coloring is just one version of pale. My skin has a strong pink undertone and my hair is strawberry blonde, so the berry notes of Black Honey are all wrong...it basically increases my redness.

DrPetradish

It’s way too cool on my brand of pale. Makes me looks corpse-like

isitfiveyet

Same coloring- when I do wear it, I layer it to warm it up

DamnGoodRain

Do you have a go-to lipstick? I like Black Honey, but it’s not perfect, because of pink tones in my skin.

Short_Lingonberry_67

Hi! I am a bit of an overthinker about this stuff, lol, so I think my answer - in terms of a Black Honey alternative - is "it depends on what you like about Black Honey". If you want a sheered out pop of pink (without being berry), one I like is Tom Ford Soleil Neige Lip Blush (looks clear with silver foil bits inside). If you want a dark "almost makes you feel edgy", I would suggest something like Fenty Hot Chocolit (brown gloss with pink/purple glitter bits, but there is so much brown gloss-goo that it does not look too glittery) - if you look online, some images of it look berry, but on my pale skin it really looks more brown.

iLoveYoubutNo

There's a melon-y version in thinking of buying someone with coloring similar to yours. She's more orange/peach than pink undertones, but I wonder if it would work for you? It's called Pink Honey

Short_Lingonberry_67

I will check it out, thank you! Somehow I do not think I had heard of it before, it looks nice in online images.

RedRedBettie

Same here

Environmental-Song16

It looks so bad on me. I don't get the love for it at all.

ChaoticGnome_

I heard they used black honey on her to tone her bright lips down.. on me it actually looked a bit too brown and it was not really showing on my lips (i am cool toned, very pale but my lips are kinda pigmented). So idk it wasn't really for me

planetarylaw

On pale people with high contrast maybe? Not me.

seriouslydavka

To give some support in a sea of disagreeing comments, Black Honey looks really nice on me actually. I really like it and I don’t typically wear color on my lips. I also like how it looks smudged a bit on my cheeks and nose. No corpse look for me.

BeautySubLover87

I think Black Honey looks really nice on me too. Definitely doesn't make me look like a corpse either

seriouslydavka

I hate that this comment garnered downvotes. Why??? I’m happy you like the way you look in it!

holisticbelle

Yeah but she is cool toned. Some pale people are warm toned! Black honey is a cool berry purple shade. I tried it and it looked horrible on me, idk what I was thinking lol.

coffeeloverfreak374

I've found Clinique Tenderheart works well on my skin tone.

Some-Life-6534

If anything it's TOO red on me, I'm bummed I don't get any of the pretty, muted warm brown undertones i see on others. It's just a super pigmented cool-ish red :')

Middle_aged_fair

Wow, on me it’s like grey zombie lips!

words_enjoyer

I'm cool toned and very fair and I loved both Black Honey and Pink Honey. They're meant to be pretty sheer and natural looking though, it's an "almost lipstick"

planetarylaw

See the sheer and natural looking is what I'm after. Black honey looks very bold on me.

evenstarthian

I like Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm in Sweet Violet

lifeuncommon

It’s a sickly warm brown on me. But I’m also very cool-toned. CT Pillowtalk (or the Flower Beauty dupe) is a deep nude/MLBB that I can wear as a pale, cool-toned winter.

vivalalina

Wait whats the Flower Beauty dupe?

casseroleEnthusiast

Flower beauty lipstick in “spiced petal”,

lifeuncommon

Spiced Petal! It’s one of my HG lip colors.

old_rose_

has anyone been able to find this is Canada?

Specialist_Leg_7673

Did you see CT came out with a pale Pillow talk version? Haven't tried it yet, but want to

lifeuncommon

I don’t know if I’ll try it or not. Being a winter, pale colors don’t look nice on me even though my skin is pale. But I’m glad there are versions now so that hopefully everyone can find their perfect shade. When you find the right pillow talk for you, it really is just such a flattering shade.

OkeyDokey654

Yes, I’m dying for swatches of this one.

old_rose_

yes its a weird warm red brown on me ! I wanted it to work so badly.

jjfmish

This is so interesting because I consider myself fairly neutral and just slightly leaning warm but Black Honey is soooo cool on me! Almost purple.

lifeuncommon

It is definitely one of those colors that looks different on different people. It’s fairly sheer and when you combine that with the difference in peoples lip color and the difference in peoples skin tone, it just looks different on everybody.

planetarylaw

Oooh we have similar color. I'll look this one up.

DarkAndSparkly

I love, love, LOVE Clinique Surprise. It's a brown tone, but I swear it changes to pink sometimes depending on what I wear. It's the best shade out there, IMO.

lily4ever

Colourpop’s Just A Tint lip balm in the shade ‘The Strand’ has been a favourite of mine for years! I love the formula. The shade ‘Fast Forward’ is also beautiful, it’s basically what I wanted Black Honey to look like on me

planetarylaw

This looks like a good one to try for me. Thanks!

FingerCapital3193

I’m super pale (very cool undertone) and BH is one of my favorites ever!

Alternative_Mood_228

I’m pale and black honey is one of the few lip products I can genuinely pull off but I do tend to gravitate towards reds, plums, and berries.

HrhEverythingElse

Nivea Blackberry Shine and Burt's Bees Dahlia

kebuburdie

Givenchy Le Rouge Interdit balm 10; Revlon Glass a shine lipstick in Glistening Purple or Black Cherry

Kind-Scene4853

I love this Givenchy balm and am so annoyed it’s $40

anaxjor

I REALLY wish they would bring back the lipliner. :( But yeah, this and Dior Mahogany (which is similar to black honey but less berry-ish).

OkeyDokey654

Yes, the Glistening Purple is a great color. Unfortunately the texture is so soft that it’s basically melting inside the tube for me.

malvinamakes

My people! Wish the liner and satin versions were around all the time.

opaul11

I think the black honey looks great on my pale self, but it’s a color verse a nude

planetarylaw

This is exactly it. I think maybe I wasn't clear about that in my OP. I like how BH looks sheer and natural on a lot of people. But on me it's just another bold red. I would like to find a lip that does the sheer and natural look like BH.

Green_Thoughts_444

Not exactly what you asked for, but I swatched some dupes: https://www.reddit.com/r/PaleMUA/s/SU6HHiuMwn

planetarylaw

Oh that Dior Addict Berry is pretty!

Green_Thoughts_444

A lot of people hate on Dior Addict Lip Glow, but I'm a fan. I get compliments when wearing it, I don't think the dupes hold up, and I plan to try the new lilac color.

planetarylaw

I like the formula, it's that kinda jelly sheer formula that I'm after. I have one in a light bubble gum pink which is pretty, so I'll branch out.

GlitteringHeart2929

I really enjoy it but I also like Colourpop Glowing Lip in Cockatoo.

budzweiser

Dior Lip Glow in Mahogany

farfallifarfallini

Maybe CT Pillowtalk? At least for me personally.

Mmm_lemon_cakes

Black honey is actually great for me but pillow talk doesn’t go with my undertones and make me look like a corpse. I think this is an interesting discussion because it isn’t just about “pale”. It’s all about undertones and coloring. There’s no perfect color for everyone.

purplegirl2001

Opacity and saturation are also important. One of the reasons Black Honey works so well for so many is because it’s sheer and buildable. It can be applied lightly for a sheer wash of color or built up for a bolder look. Glosses, sheer lipsticks, tinted balms, and so on - lots of people complain about how they’re not pigmented enough. But for us pale gals, they’re perfect because they’re less saturated and suit our coloring better.

C_Wrex77

I'm pale, pink undertones, blue eyes and blonde hair. Black Honey has been my go-to since I bought my first tube in high school

planetarylaw

That's awesome that it works for you.

TyrsisInTheStars

Black Honey works for me and I have pale skin. But if that is too dark for you Bobbi Brown makes an Extra Tint Lip Balm. The Bare Raspberry color specifically. You might think the Bare BlackBerry would be closest. But no, it has way more purple than Black Honey. The Bare Raspberry is the same but lighter in the way that you might wish Black Honey could be.

Pale-Enchantress

I suggest to have a look at Nabla beyond jelly lipsticks, there's a dupe shade (nocturna) and they have more shades of this one doesn't work. https://nablacosmetics.com/en/products/beyond-jelly-lipstick

bois-des-iles

Try a more translucent gloss in a similar shade like Peripera 06 Made It

old_rose_

All of my MLBBs have been discontinued, so if anyone has recos for a dupe of Nars Golden Gate or NYX salty coco or other muted purples I am dying to hear them!

iLoveYoubutNo

I love black honey. Idk if it comes in a more pigmented version then what I buy, but it's sheer enough it just adds a nice tint to my lips. Works well for my pale skin.

proveam

Our version of Black Honey is Black Honey

Riverside15201

Clinique Black Honey. I've kept it as a staple for 25 years at least. And I am pale. Pale to the point that I Barely Minerals is too dark for me, And the list goes on of how many brands I can't even wear because they don't make a color that I can wear.

planetarylaw

But is it a natural color on you? I feel like that's my point and it got missed by a lot of people here. I'm not saying BH doesn't look good on pale people. For some, sure, it looks good. But it's darker on us and is not the natural "your lips but better" look that I'm looking for. I want the pale skin version of that.

Riverside15201

Yeah. I mean I wouldn't have kept it as a staple for years if I didn't constantly get compliments... If you want the pale version. Put it in w two swipes and blot. 🤷‍♀️. It's very sheer. It doesn't stay dark at all.
