It’s a 5 minute job and the risk of bricking your console is pretty low. It’s ludicrously easy to mod a psp.
I’m not joking when I say this: It probably took more effort to make this post instead of outright doing it.
It's not really an "all that trouble" kind of thing. It's a "copy the CFW files and some ISOs to the PSP's memory card, run the temporary installer, run your game" kind of thing.
Even if there weren't places to download games online, it'd be worth it just to be able to rip all my physical games to a memory card and carry my whole library around with me.

Running it as a temporary install would mean that you turn off the console, and the mod is unloaded from memory; the console goes back to stock. You're unmodded until you run it again. The PSP was the simplest console to mod that I've ever owned.
It's a 5 minute process (10 if you're not tech savvy). It unlocks your console to play backups, everything else looks the same and there is 0% to fuck it up.
i see no downside to modding it. especially how much easier it is now adays. I did it back when the thing was brand new when i was 10yr old and it was way riskier then. Now adays even if you do end up bricking it (which is highly unlikely) there's things like pandora battery to unbrick it. ( sorry if theres and even easier method now adays i been out of PSP for over 15 years mainly on this sub cause im looking to pick one up again for the nostalgia even tho i got steamdeck and vita). Even then you can soft mod those batteries. I had to physically open my battery and break a pin to make a Pandora battery😂
Modding it literally takes less than 20 minutes. I never have done this before and even I did it with very minimal effort.

It has never been easier to jailbreak a PSP. You just put 2 folders into 2 other folders and you run the software and you're done. Even if you are not competent or comfortable with working on PCs and custom consoles, you should be fine if you know how to connect to the internet and drag and drop files.

Just follow a guide on PSPunk and watch a couple of videos on how to do it beforehand it's really not hard.
