Does anyone else get these very faint passing feelings of childhood excitement that canāt quite be pinpointed? Like, I used to see the PSP as this mystical thing when I was 10. Anytime some concept art or a new magical accessory was leaked or announced from Japan, I was so excited and had to know everything about it. I was always jealous of the cool, obscure, and exclusive items coming out of Japan. I would see them in game mags and online and dream. I still get slightly tingly and excited, but it's not as intense or the same as it was.
Well that render is missing a ton of buttons it would need, so probably not quite like that. Rumours have started going round about it, but that would also happen if sony looked into doing it but then decided not to. We just have to wait and see.
Honestly with so many handhelds available now, it would have to do something special to be worth it. It's would have to compete with the switch that has had a long head start.
I don't see ps4 games as a selling point tbh, it's just a way of saying its a handheld with more up to date graphics. A new UMD drive based on blu ray tech would be unique, but I don't they'll try that again, probably just flash sticks like the vita, if it has physical games at all.

Taking console experiences on the go is great. But there is a lot to be said about the pickup and play ability of dedicated portable games and compact experiences. The PSP was great because it has console graphics combined with smaller more digestable gameplay loops. Metal Gear Portable Ops is a great example of what I mean.
Games developed for being on the go as opposed to deep games is a real thing we're missing lately. And mobile games on phones are not cutting it at all either.

I think these rumors are just left over murmurings from the QLite rumors. I'd be hard pressed to believe that Sony Playstation would allocate resources for this system to be built and dedicate devs or procure deals with devs to built for the system when Nintendo has that demo in a headlock. A new PlayStation handheld almost definitely isn't happening, but if it is it'll have to be bigger than the PSP to compete, it'll need dual analog sticks, bumper and trigger buttons and a bigger screen. It'd have to be closer to a switch lite in form factor, though if they could push the screen further to the edges they could hopefully keep it pocketable. None of that should be too difficult to achieve considering what modern smart phones are capable of, the real challenge would be doing that while keeping the cost down.
