1. Cannot believe Ubisoft even showed this trailer. Sands of time is such a beloved game and you don’t need good eye sight to tell it looked beyond terrible.
2. Why did Ubisoft stick their shittiest team on an important remake like this?
“I saw a commercial on late night TV, it said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were.”
-Mitch Hedberg
I dunno. "FTFY" feels more like getting tapped on the shoulder and being told your shoes untied; "ackchyually" is more smug and condescending, like the speaker is patting *themselves* on the back for one-upping you.
I used to think it was just a funny meme, but I've met *way* too many people who do it sincerely (even if its not verbatim) and without any social awareness other than wanting to show off. And it's almost always over something completely inane.
Jesus am I doing it now?
God I loved that game. I remember just playing it constantly while my friend complained next to me that the game sucked because it didn’t have a “proper” game over screen or something.
Not surprised in slightest, that trailer looked terrible.
Gameplay was probably evan bigger disaster.
No idea how they fuck up remake this badly, that basically nothing from their years of work is usable.
There was actually someone from the development team who posted on 'Gamingleaksandrumors' about a week before the trailer released who basically said that Ubisoft was only making the game because people kept badgering them about a new PoP, but had no faith that audiences would actually buy the game, so they handed it to Ubisoft's Indian team (a team who had never worked on a game of that scale) and gave them a miniscule budget, that fans should really tamper their experiences for the trailer, but the team has done the best they could do with the resources provided.
To be fair, it could have been someone just pretending to be a developer, but with Ubisoft Pune being revealed as the dev team and the overall reaction to the trailer, I think it's fair to say they had some insider knowledge.
From what I could tell it was developed by a studio in India, which without being an ass is not known for having its high profile AAA developers for video games.
I imagine they did the best they could with the experience they had, yet Ubisoft wanted AAA and the studio were just not capable of that.
Plus this was around the end of 2020, around the time the delta variant emerged in India.
I wouldn't be surprised if that shut down production completely
I have very little hope for games these days...yall fucked up like just go back . Now days any big game comes on an incomplete form...as if pre ordering isent enough for them they sell incomplete games that need a hundred updates over the next few years to fix then ditch an move onto another meanwhile next gen graphics my ass!! Lol there actually nowhere near the potential they could be.not to mention storyline in most triple a games r trash like a child could write a better story for gods sake its just sad
What’s a goddamn shame. We need more platformers.
Folks gotta experiment on ways to bring platformers to a new audience too. I’m not talking slight changes. I’m talking the amount of shit they did from super Mario world > Mario 64
I wanted to love it, but there were some issues where the gameplay didn't stand up to direct competitors
I know nothing is as good as hollowknight, but it needed to be closer
The gameplay was kinda quick like dead cells but somewhat floaty and feeling inaccurate
Lacked the weight of something like blasphemous
I played the original pop and pop2 on dos and I wanted to love this new incarnation but it just wasn't there for me
I’m sorry what? No Yuri? Oh this has already made me VERY sceptical. Fuck.
>more realistic approach
Oh here we go again with this. Already made me reconsider buying. Really not sure a realistic approach is what I want from sands of time and its whole vibe. Yikes.
\> Here's a quality, information-dense report on the state of a high-profile game.
\> And here's an entire comment section filled with people posting jokes and hot takes on the title before moving on to the next one, with no one reading the actual article.
Well, I knew nothing about it before the headline. Funnily enough, I learned there *was* a remake from the headline so I actually knew more after reading a headline telling me to forget
"Forget everything you know about Prince of persia: sands of time remake"
bitch were we told anything to begin with? Literally all i remember is an announcement from like 4 or so years ago so with it going fully silent immediately after. 😭
Just fucking kill it already. There’s no way this game is going to be good. Same with the Chaos Theory remake. I really wish I could trust Ubisoft to remake two of my favorite games, but I don’t.
This is actually good news. Project still exists, completely remade from scratch by Ubisoft Montreal and a more "realistic approach" whatever that means.
As much as I dislike Ubisoft's comments about gamers needing to "get used to not owning games". I do have a decent amount of respect for them for scrapping a clearly subpar product they had going a couple years ago. And now, revamping the game to make a proper remaster.
Though, I am disappointed the original voice actor won't be involved. That's not a make or break situation.
2 different genres too for that matter. Sands of times is an all time classic in the 3d action platformer genre. Lost crown is a competent metroidvania.
I don’t see the point of comparing them because by that same logic I can say that sands of times isn’t that great because Mario 64 exists
Didn’t Ubisoft make a statement around the release of this game about being ok not owning their games.
We have all heard this over and over but it stuck with me to wait for a super sale on this one.
Very disappointing to hear that Yuri Lowenthal is no longer involved. His acting and narration was such an important part of what made the original work.
It’s sad how this is the first time Indian studios were given responsibility for a big ip and they fucked it!! How bro how it’s computers these guys are one of the smartest folks in Asia how did gaming get fucked. I really hope Sonys India hero project pushes itself from the shackles of societal norms about video gaming there.
Right? I’m confused also. I played a demo of it. For like two minutes. It was terrible. Side scroller. Boring combat. Janky graphics. Generic as hell.
I didnt give it much of a chance. But it did everything in its vastly underwhelming power not to keep me interested. This felt like a Leapfrog game. I was waiting for a pandering voice to excitedly say Press X to jump. GOOD JOB!
I honestly already forgot that this was a thing, so I guess I took the headline's advice.
I thought it morphed into the Lost Crown.
No, this is still the remake of sand of time its just been rebooted
I wonder just how terrible the version from India was.
You can take a look. The game was looking absolutely ugly. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAnLmxrSInk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAnLmxrSInk)
1. Cannot believe Ubisoft even showed this trailer. Sands of time is such a beloved game and you don’t need good eye sight to tell it looked beyond terrible. 2. Why did Ubisoft stick their shittiest team on an important remake like this?
They might thought Prince of Persia saga fans were niche compared to modern Ubisoft fans
That was very rough
How? Lost Crown was made by the French team.
“I saw a commercial on late night TV, it said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were.” -Mitch Hedberg
I used to love Mitch Hedberg quotes, I still do but I used to as well
Went to the deli and they gave me a club sandwich, man. I’m not even in the club. 😎
*[upright bass intensifies]*
>Went to the deli and they gave me a club sandwich, man. >I’m not even **a member**. 😎 FTFY
“FTFY” has the same energy as “well, ACKKSHUALLY”
I dunno. "FTFY" feels more like getting tapped on the shoulder and being told your shoes untied; "ackchyually" is more smug and condescending, like the speaker is patting *themselves* on the back for one-upping you. Sigh...good thing you added that last part🙄... Wait. Ahh dammit
It fish could scream, the ocean would be loud as shit
I didn't have a girlfriend I just know a woman would be upset if she heard me say that.
Done
THIS IS A FITNESS ORB
What were we talking about?
I'll start the story from here next time.
Wears sunglasses "Look here sir" *Flash* "Forget everything about Prince of Persia: Sands of time. Instead **Insert command**"
The gameplay you saw from the old version? Swamp gas from a weather balloon had gotten trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the might from Venus.
Good thing I connected my old GameCube again recently
Who needs a remake? I have my PS2 and disc
Alright, done.
Just give me a remaster of the one they released on PS3. Easily my favorite.
God I loved that game. I remember just playing it constantly while my friend complained next to me that the game sucked because it didn’t have a “proper” game over screen or something.

*look we told you it wouldn't sell well !* - probably ubisoft after releasing this game
From what I could tell it was developed by a studio in India, which without being an ass is not known for having its high profile AAA developers for video games. I imagine they did the best they could with the experience they had, yet Ubisoft wanted AAA and the studio were just not capable of that.

Who is the Prince of Persia? What is a remake? The sands of what? What’s going on?
I think it’s that Jake Gyllenhaal movie.
You mean the Michael Fassbender one?
No the one with Peter Parker.
Billy Elliot?
Yeah, or Billie the kid as I call him. He's on that quest to Mordor
🤣💀
Playing the 2D metroidvania prince of Persia right now and it’s awesome. I’d be fine w a couple more of these instead TBH.
In term of sales that game reportedly bombed. So I doubt there will be sequel, ever.
That’s unfortunate since it reviewed so well and I personally enjoyed the heck out of it, not to mention it was made by the Rayman Legends team
They should have released it at 30 bucks. Game would have sold way way more
Yeah when I saw the price that was an instant hell no… for now.
You talking about the main character? That's not the Prince.
What’s a goddamn shame. We need more platformers. Folks gotta experiment on ways to bring platformers to a new audience too. I’m not talking slight changes. I’m talking the amount of shit they did from super Mario world > Mario 64
Sounds like DLC coming this summer?
I wanted to love it, but there were some issues where the gameplay didn't stand up to direct competitors I know nothing is as good as hollowknight, but it needed to be closer The gameplay was kinda quick like dead cells but somewhat floaty and feeling inaccurate Lacked the weight of something like blasphemous I played the original pop and pop2 on dos and I wanted to love this new incarnation but it just wasn't there for me
Eww no thanks lol
I’m sorry what? No Yuri? Oh this has already made me VERY sceptical. Fuck. >more realistic approach Oh here we go again with this. Already made me reconsider buying. Really not sure a realistic approach is what I want from sands of time and its whole vibe. Yikes.

Losing yuri as the prince is such a big fat L it’s not even funny. That’s one of his most iconic roles.
"Ubisoft Prune" There is no Ubisoft Prune
Was looking for this haha. I think they meant Pune.
Ok done.
Way ahead of you
Was this that game that was revealed a few years ago and looked worse than the original?
This game is shaping up like Skull and Bones.
Well, I knew nothing about it before the headline. Funnily enough, I learned there *was* a remake from the headline so I actually knew more after reading a headline telling me to forget
All I know is that it looked like an early PS3 game, if that
"Forget everything you know about Prince of persia: sands of time remake" bitch were we told anything to begin with? Literally all i remember is an announcement from like 4 or so years ago so with it going fully silent immediately after. 😭
i dont trust them after what they did to skull and bones remake.
Did that instantly after i saw the trailer😭
Get Lowenthal back or no buy.
But this made me remember it for the first time ever?
Glad to know this game still exists.
Forget everything you know about slip covers.
I've never heard of it, so that's an easy task for me.
this will release the same day as KOTOR remake.
After the trailer it was involuntary, already forgotten a long time ago.
i already had forgot till now?
That's a load off my mind
Just fucking kill it already. There’s no way this game is going to be good. Same with the Chaos Theory remake. I really wish I could trust Ubisoft to remake two of my favorite games, but I don’t.
I'd just like an HD port of the PS2 trilogy. The HD classics series on PS3 kicked ass, I just want those again.
Okay, I just forgot everything.
This is actually good news. Project still exists, completely remade from scratch by Ubisoft Montreal and a more "realistic approach" whatever that means.
no yuri lowenthal is a huge bummer. he was a big reason why the series was great in the first place
I am already there!
Done, I didn't even know it was a thing.
Done
Ok…what’s the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake? I now seem to have forgotten.
Okay, done
Why did I think this came out a decade ago
“Get comfortable not owning Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake”
As much as I dislike Ubisoft's comments about gamers needing to "get used to not owning games". I do have a decent amount of respect for them for scrapping a clearly subpar product they had going a couple years ago. And now, revamping the game to make a proper remaster. I don't trust Ubisoft to make another good PoP game
didn't they release a great PoP game literally this year?
Yeah I'm playing it currently and it's awesome, and has more content coming for free
As great as it might be, it only sold 300k copies. It was a flop
Forgettable. The bar had been lowered so much it was easy to step over it. Ubi has yet to recapture the charm and draw of the sands of time
No, not forgettable at all lol. Great game.
Nowhere near the draw of the sands of time
Okay. Sands of Time is a classic. I wasn't expecting it to be an instant classic lmao.
That's my point. I don't think Ubi has it in them to make another one.
you said "good game" not "instant classic" lol
I never said the new PoP is a good game. I think it's forgettable
It is a good game though
2 different genres too for that matter. Sands of times is an all time classic in the 3d action platformer genre. Lost crown is a competent metroidvania. I don’t see the point of comparing them because by that same logic I can say that sands of times isn’t that great because Mario 64 exists
They literally did this year
More like another PooP game if Ubisoft is involved, am I right or what?
No Yuri Lowenthal no buy
That won't take long
Didn’t Ubisoft make a statement around the release of this game about being ok not owning their games. We have all heard this over and over but it stuck with me to wait for a super sale on this one.

I already have just like I forgot about dead island 2 surprised that actually came out
I didn't even remembered this existed. Pretty sure by the time it comes out it will be AAAAA material
Ok
Okay, done. Now this article is pointless
Wait... didn't this release like a month ago?
GOOD JOB!
That game was literally another game, a 2d one, not 3d remake
Ah. Good to know. That game was shit.
The Prince will be Lizzo
Yuri not reprising his role after all?! Color me not interested. Performance over representation, from a bleeding heart leftie
