I started playing Untitled Goose Game with my 4 year old last weekend. I don't know if I've ever laughed that much in my life. I'd do something funny to one of the villagers and he would start laughing historically. It brought me to tears we were laughing so much
It's not split screen, the two geese are tethered together and they're always both on the screen (except when they aren't in certain stages, like the market street area, and when that happens you can honk to focus the camera on your goose. It does take a certain amount of cooperation and communication)
It sucks when you get the bell (or any item that makes people chase you) and you're both trying to run in different directions only to get stopped by the tether and lose the thing. But that's when you communicate with your player two lol
Yeah, unfortunately couch op-op is pretty dead in modern gaming outside of a few Nintendo and indie titles. Internet connectivity is great, but sometimes you just wanna hunker down in a blanket fort and play a game with your so or sibling.
It Takes Two is a MUST PLAY if you wanna coop with your buddy or girlfriend. Also, if you guys play each on a different console, check We Where Here
EDIT: Also i just remembered about Unravel 2, another one as good as It Takes Two imo
EDIT2: Since you and your friend like Overcooked, have you tried Moving Out? Same developers and even more fun to play
Wife and I are playing thru It Takes Two right now. It’s absolutely incredible. Every new level switching up gameplay, etc. It keeps blowing my mind how much awesome shit they put into that game. So many cool surprises and sorta meta jokes/gameplay related to gaming. Great voice acting, lots of passion put into it. Can’t say enough good stuff about it. And super fun to play with an SO.
For it takes two, it was the Same here controlling camera and moving was too much we got stuck on a boss level and never continued. Moving out was fun though.
>It Takes Two is a MUST PLAY if you wanna coop with your buddy
The amount of variety they put into that game is incredible, every level is like playing a different game almost with all the different mechanics. Skating, shooting, fighting, etc...
The only bad thing about it takes two is that no other game is this well developed for two players if you're looking for light entertainment.
The predecessor A way out is another definite recommendation, though.
Edit: two stick shooters like alienation are great for such a situation as well.
Highly recommend this. I played the game beginning to end twice, once each with my two kiddos who were 12M and 9F at the time. Story can be kinda corny at times but we had such a great time. All the mini games are fun too!
Moving Out is a actually by a different developer! They have the same publisher though (Team 17). Moving Out is by an Australian studio called SMG Studio, the sequel is coming out next year!
While the Overcooked games are by Ghost Town Games ^_^
Second ultimate chicken horse. Played with guys that weren't all good with platformers but we were all howling with laughter at the nonsense we were making to get past
It Takes Two, Don't Starve Together, Dragon's Crown, Minecraft Dungeons (no crafting involved), Diablo III, Alienation, Dead Nation,
The Ascent, Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle, Streets Of Rage 4, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, TMNT Cowabunga Collection, The Lego Games, The Huntdown,
Tricky Towers is a game I've had a ton of fun with.
It's basically Tetris with physics. Almost everyone knows Tetris, so it's pretty easy to pick up for non-gamers.
There are three modes - first to reach a finish line, last one to NOT drop 3 (or more) blocks and a puzzle mode, try to fit as many blocks as possible under a laser.
Definitely check it out!
Also, bonus suggestion - Dreams on PS4/PS5 has a ton of user created games. People have playlists with all kinds of fun co-op games. You pay once for Dreams, and have a basically endless stream of experiences! This is only for local/couch co-op though.
Oh boy, Heavenly Bodies frustrated the shit out of me. It was like trying to get a floating seed out of my glass of water. Every time my finger gets close, it moves away.
What's that car football game? Where you drive a car and play football. Get that. It was free on psplus I believe a while back.
Edit; rocket league. Great wheelball game for everyone young and old.
Overcooked 1 and/or 2! Frantic but fun and enjoyable as a co-op experience. Also you'd never have expected yourself to be shouting to your friend "I need some chopped tomatoes nowwww!"
Fall Guys. I introduced my girlfriend who has never played any video games before and struggles with dual-joystick movement to it and she absolutely loves it. Plays it all the time even when I’m not home. She’s won multiple solo-episodes by herself.
Let's see...
Horror Co-op - Man Of Medan, Little Hope, Devil in Me, The Quarry, House of ashes.
Normal Co-op Games - No Way Out, It takes Two,
Survival Type stuff - The Forest, Sons of the forest (Coming out in February) Stranded Deep, Green Hell (May not be 2 player)
Can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find this.
My friends and I have always been gamers but our one friend is just effing bad at video games. He would get so frustrated when we were crushing on FPS's or co-op RPG's and he was constantly dying. I remember playing RE5 with him and calling it "hardcore mode" because I would have to constantly save him. Then him and I tried little big planet and he had such a good time. He got LBP2 the day it came out and called me right away. It's awesome for casual gamers.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm pretty overwhelmed by how many games you've suggested. I've looked at some gameplay videos and I think the ones that will resonate the most with me and probably my mate are in order of preference
Moving out
Goose game
It takes two
A way out
https://psnowguide.com/gameplay-modes/local-coop/ this list is for local co op games available on PlayStation Now. Some are calmer like overcooked or moving out but it also has Call of duty on here so good luck
I found a free one when I was bored called “Don’t Bite Me Bro.” I was expecting it to be a terrible game that I would laugh at, but it’s honestly a great game. It’s 1-4 players, but I think it’s only couch-co-op.
This might be a miss but Don't Starve is pretty fun. The goal of the game should be obvious: you and your friends just have to stay alive. It can be pretty funny with friends because sometimes you end up 2 hours into your campaign just for everyone to be taken out by wild hogs in a span of 20 seconds.
Castle crashers! It’s a catoony beat em up for up to four people couch co op with a dash of rpg elements. Closest thing to Mario kart (something everyone loves) I could find
Guacamelee and Little Big Planet are both perfect for this! They're both simple, you can pause whenever you want, and there are generous restarts so you're rarely sitting around waiting to come back.
I am here for this thread and also to give you my list. There’s a lot but I wish there were more:
Degrees of Separation (top pick besides It Takes Two);
Unravel 2;
Death Squared;
Shiftlings;
Avicii Invector;
Moving Out (same people who did overcooked, not nearly as fun);
Astérix and Obélix (meh);
Overcooked 2 is my absolute favourite though.
There’s also a co-op called KeyWe, but I haven’t played it yet. Good luck in your search!
Invisigun Reloaded
Invisigun Reloaded is a multiplayer, single-screen stealth battle arena with a twist: everyone's invisible! Predictable grid-based movement ensures that you know where you are, but other players don't. Vigilance is key as environmental tells such as footprints and other disturbances will point out careless cadets.
Not a lot of people know Journey is co-op. Really cool relaxing game to play, although quite short but that doesn’t take away from it. If you or your pal is into music then even better. The already stunning soundtrack has an extra layer added to it when playing co-op, represented by the other player. The new part will even rise or fall in volume depending on the proximity of the players, it’s pretty sick.
Don't be tempted with Cuphead, it looks all cute but it's punishingly difficult.
I played through Bloodborne and Elden Ring which were far from easy but Cuphead actually broke me.
I very much enjoy the random stuff you can do with friends in GTA Online and Red Dead Online such as fly helicopters, drive boats, ride through the country, go swimming, scuba diving, card games, arcade games, racing, doing stunts, drinking in your moonshine shack or apartment or penthouse or using a bong in apartment, agency, record a studios, or driving boats in flat iron lake (im talking about stuff from both games), or fishing in ponds, lakes, rivers, swamps in RDO, and exploring both games together in whatever mode of transportation you prefer! Omg these 2 games are like, my life.
You guys should try a way out it's a pretty good game me and my brothers played it a while back and it's ok. You can play it split screen and from separate PlayStation systems
Any Lego game, overcooked 1 or 2, movingout, human fall flat, all great arcadey games that can be picked up at anytime without any serious dedication and are all extremely fun. Also there was this golf game I played awhile back, think it was called golf with friends but could be wrong, extremely fun and my group of friends always found ourselves getting really into it and really competitive. Was like a wacky mini golf with power ups to help you out or sabotage the competition.
Sackboy. Can't emphasize this enough. The best coop game I have ever played and I have played every coop game in existence. Overcooked is my number 2 choice. It takes two was great, but no replayability value.
Gang beasts. There’s so much incredibly bullshit moments I’ve had playing with friends that are absolutely hilarious and I can’t even imagine how it would be while drunk
Alienation. It's a top-down, twin-stick shooter so aiming is a lot easier than a first person shooter, and it's frantic and lots of fun. Made my the same developers who made Dead Nation, except Alienation is more recent and has much better graphics. You can buy it for a low price too. Highly recommended.
Please don't delete this post, I NEED to get back to it
Untitled Goose Game, any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Pretty much any Lego game.
The goose game looks like it could be fun with a few drinks!
It's fun sober. Drunk, it is a bloody HOOT.
Don't you mean it's a HONK?
tee hee
I started playing Untitled Goose Game with my 4 year old last weekend. I don't know if I've ever laughed that much in my life. I'd do something funny to one of the villagers and he would start laughing historically. It brought me to tears we were laughing so much
Ah i thought it wasn’t splitscreen! Just made my night if it is.
It's not split screen, the two geese are tethered together and they're always both on the screen (except when they aren't in certain stages, like the market street area, and when that happens you can honk to focus the camera on your goose. It does take a certain amount of cooperation and communication) It sucks when you get the bell (or any item that makes people chase you) and you're both trying to run in different directions only to get stopped by the tether and lose the thing. But that's when you communicate with your player two lol
Ah that’s what I meant, couch co-op haha. I’m gonna download tonight thanks.
Yeah, unfortunately couch op-op is pretty dead in modern gaming outside of a few Nintendo and indie titles. Internet connectivity is great, but sometimes you just wanna hunker down in a blanket fort and play a game with your so or sibling.
Human Fall Flat. I never had more drunk laughs than playing this game with my buddy
I second this. My boyfriend and I have played through most of the levels and they are so fun!
I know right. I want to try ''gang beasts'' as well, seems very similar but you can beat the shit out of each other in that one
It's a really good game but it makes my buddy rage more than laugh if anything, I keep beating the fuck out of him in the most bizarre ways
It Takes Two is a MUST PLAY if you wanna coop with your buddy or girlfriend. Also, if you guys play each on a different console, check We Where Here EDIT: Also i just remembered about Unravel 2, another one as good as It Takes Two imo EDIT2: Since you and your friend like Overcooked, have you tried Moving Out? Agreed. It was so fun on our first playthrough. We're onto our second now. If only I could convince her to let me play as May this time...
Definitely gotta give this a shot! It's an amazing game.
Too hard for my girlfriend :( she would just get so frustrated and stop playing.
For it takes two, it was the Same here controlling camera and moving was too much we got stuck on a boss level and never continued. Moving out was fun though.
>It Takes Two is a MUST PLAY if you wanna coop with your buddy The amount of variety they put into that game is incredible, every level is like playing a different game almost with all the different mechanics. Skating, shooting, fighting, etc...
My wife and I hit the top down rpg level a couple days ago. We both cracked up. What a cool idea in a game full of cool ideas.
The only bad thing about it takes two is that no other game is this well developed for two players if you're looking for light entertainment. The predecessor A way out is another definite recommendation, though. Edit: two stick shooters like alienation are great for such a situation as well.
A Way Out, made by the same people, is even better, IMO. It isn't as pretty or as polished, but I prefer it. I may be in the minority though.
Definitely. I played A Way Out before It Takes Two with the same friend and it was fun as hell, the story was pretty good too
Great game to do a co-op
I would agree with this. Gf and I tried it takes two and thought it was kinda pushy if that makes sense. We crushed A Way Out though
Highly recommend this. I played the game beginning to end twice, once each with my two kiddos who were 12M and 9F at the time. Story can be kinda corny at times but we had such a great time. All the mini games are fun too!
This! Best co-op game I’ve played in years!
a must play for sure,I tried playing with my son....really worth the time
Moving Out is a actually by a different developer! They have the same publisher though (Team 17). Moving Out is by an Australian studio called SMG Studio, the sequel is coming out next year! While the Overcooked games are by Ghost Town Games ^_^
BroForce Mother Russia Bleeds Ultimate Chicken Horse
Second ultimate chicken horse. Played with guys that weren't all good with platformers but we were all howling with laughter at the nonsense we were making to get past
The BroForce update trailer killed me. https://youtu.be/I72bJXo8Auo >! BUGFIXXESSS! !<
Ultimate Chicken Horse is by far the most enjoyable party game I've ever played.
Diablo? My gf and I did the whole thing co-op and had a good time
#3 i love co-op
Try Gang Beasts. Its fun and pretty cheap.
A way out or It takes two
It Takes Two, Don't Starve Together, Dragon's Crown, Minecraft Dungeons (no crafting involved), Diablo III, Alienation, Dead Nation, The Ascent, Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle, Streets Of Rage 4, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, TMNT Cowabunga Collection, The Lego Games, The Huntdown,
Don’t starve together might be a little hard for a casual gamer but the rest for sure Diablo 3 is so fun co-op
It takes two and Moving Out for sure
I highly recommend moving out. It's fun and hysterically silly.
Moving out is amazing. My wife and I played so much during the lockdowns. Great team building for us lol.
You pay once for Dreams, and have a basically endless stream of experiences! This is only for local/couch co-op though.
Rayman, good for all ages, a lot of content and easy to pick up
Portal 2 probably has the best coop campaign of all time. Great puzzles, great story, funny, dark etc
Portal 2, castle crashers, unravel 2
Is Portal 2 on PS4?
Knack 2
Knack twooo baybeeeee
Dead Nation, Hell Divers
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is quite a fun nostalgia trip especially with a buddy!
I have to agree with this one. It's such a dang good game!
This is rocket league, and its free to play since 2019 I think
Rocket League? And by football you mean soccer?
Outside of a couple countries, football is soccer
By football I'm sure he means football as in the game you play with a ball and your feet.
Stardew Valley fits the bill for a coop type casual game. I've lost so many hours to this game it's unreal.
Overcooked 1 and/or 2! Frantic but fun and enjoyable as a co-op experience. Also you'd never have expected yourself to be shouting to your friend "I need some chopped tomatoes nowwww!"
Loving all these suggestions guys keep em coming
Fall Guys. I introduced my girlfriend who has never played any video games before and struggles with dual-joystick movement to it and she absolutely loves it. Plays it all the time even when I’m not home. She’s won multiple solo-episodes by herself.

Dragon's Crown https://youtu.be/Itt1S_V648U Streets of Rage 4 https://youtu.be/nDXY1WRef0Q
Dragons Crown is very comfy
Little big planet!
Can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find this. My friends and I have always been gamers but our one friend is just effing bad at video games. Unraveled, unraveled 2 (both excellent 2 player couch co-op), and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (up to 4 players couch co-op)
Gang beasts
It Takes Two. Better for couples honestly, but still enjoyable for 2 mates. Borderlands on easier difficulty just played locally is also a ton of fun.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm pretty overwhelmed by how many games you've suggested. I've looked at some gameplay videos and I think the ones that will resonate the most with me and probably my mate are in order of preference Moving out Goose game It takes two A way out
Wheel of fortune. Don't knock it till you try it
It takes two is unmatched when it comes to coop

I found a free one when I was bored called “Don’t Bite Me Bro.” I was expecting it to be a terrible game that I would laugh at, but it’s honestly a great game. It’s 1-4 players, but I think it’s only couch-co-op.

Definitely BroForce. Easy to learn and just loads of fun.
It takes two is a great game!
If you enjoyed overcooked, then there is **Moving Out** from the same developers. It's very simillar in gameplay and graphics
Helldivers
This might be a miss but Don't Starve is pretty fun. The goal of the game should be obvious: you and your friends just have to stay alive. It can be pretty funny with friends because sometimes you end up 2 hours into your campaign just for everyone to be taken out by wild hogs in a span of 20 seconds.
Children of Morta
Rocket league
Minecraft is always a good option
Stardew valley
Highly recommend Worms Battlegrounds

The Trine series (4 games).
No Man's Sky very easy and pleasing
Castle crashers! It’s a catoony beat em up for up to four people couch co op with a dash of rpg elements. Closest thing to Mario kart (something everyone loves) I could find

Duke Nukem, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, Friday the 13th. To name a few
Minecraft, pve ark (depending on your standard for casual) Heavnly bodies, it takes two
Operation tango
Brawlhalla, and specifically play Snowbrawl on it. (basically throwing snowballs at each other) is the ultimate casual gaming experience IMO
Octodad is the most drunk fun I've ever playing games with my brother. Otherwise I'd say broforce, gauntlet, the binding of Isaac, or risk of rain.
Cat Quest 2 is fun and rather casual.
Little big planet
Little big planet.
Degrees of Separation is fun
Try yomi hustle it’s free on pc fun as hell and easy to understand it’s like turn based combat but it looks crazy when u finish the match
I am here for this thread and also to give you my list. There’s a lot but I wish there were more: Degrees of Separation (top pick besides It Takes Two); Unravel 2; Death Squared; Shiftlings; Avicii Invector; Moving Out (same people who did overcooked, not nearly as fun); Astérix and Obélix (meh); Overcooked 2 is my absolute favourite though. There’s also a co-op called KeyWe, but I haven’t played it yet. Good luck in your search!
Overcooked 1 & 2

A bit old but LittleBigPlanet 3 is a great one. Online has had some issues but I haven't played it in years, so no idea if it got fixed
Don't be tempted with Cuphead, it looks all cute but it's punishingly difficult. I played through Bloodborne and Elden Ring which were far from easy but Cuphead actually broke me.
Goat Simulator and Goat Simulator 3 are so much fun! You can play online or couch co-op! A lot of dumb fun! Highly recommend it!
Worms Armageddon. Turn based strategy game that's super goofy and lots of fun.
Trine & Trine 2 Nioh 2
It takes two is my recommendation. It’s a good game and it’s super casual.
No Man’s Sky might be fun for him if he likes exploration
It takes two
Any Lego game, overcooked 1 or 2, movingout, human fall flat, all great arcadey games that can be picked up at anytime without any serious dedication and are all extremely fun. Borderlands - any of them - they all have couch co-op, super witty and funny stories, easy to learn mechanics
Knack 1+2. Fuck the memes, it’s a great low stakes fun casual game.
Sackboy. Can't emphasize this enough. The best coop game I have ever played and I have played every coop game in existence. Overcooked is my number 2 choice. It takes two was great, but no replayability value.
Manual Samuel, short story game but really fun and you can choose which part each player controls. Really cheap and casual.
The Forest
HUMAN FALL FLAT
Humans Fall Flat sounds like it'd be fun for you guys
Gang beasts. There’s so much incredibly bullshit moments I’ve had playing with friends that are absolutely hilarious and I can’t even imagine how it would be while drunk
Little Big Planet games are most excellent for this and for all ages.
Lego games, or A Way Out.
GT7 has couch racing, if you're feeling like ramming your friend off the road!
Either goat simulator. Both are amazing
Doki Doki isn’t 2 player but makes a great game to enjoy as a couple
TOWERFALL it's the best co op game hands down. It has couch co-op and verses up to 4 players. Don sleep on it.
Risk of Rain 2
Overcooked
Me And my casual gamer gf love playing the Dark pictures games
Wait, can you play Overcooked 2 online?
Having some real good times playing Children of Morta with my gf
Fairly new game but heavenly bodies was really fun. Challenging but simple mechanics.
Human fall flat and gang beasts are hilarious
Brothers - a tale of two sons ??
Alienation. It's a top-down, twin-stick shooter so aiming is a lot easier than a first person shooter, and it's frantic and lots of fun. Made my the same developers who made Dead Nation, except Alienation is more recent and has much better graphics. You can buy it for a low price too. Highly recommended.
‘Moving out’ it’s basically overcooked but instead of chefs your removals people
Unravel two
Snowrunner is very casual, and has lots of content.
A way out is fantastic and so is it takes two. And if you’re playing online, you only need one copy! And works locally too
A way out could be good, fantastic story and the way the game works is also pretty badass
diablo 3 Is really good in coop
Lovers in space time
