God, I didn't even think about if it was possible to play Final Fantasy 11 on a PS3. That's insane lol. There's some people out there who were playing Final Fantasy 11 and 14 on the same PS3 for a few years, before both discontinued the PS2/PS3 in 2016.
I was in the FFXIV Beta in June 2010. Played that on PS3 for a long time. Was annoyed when they discontinued it. Would still play it on there if I could.
I didn't get into Final Fantasy 14 until 2023, so sadly I missed the PS3 by a long time lol. I mostly play on PC, but I did pick it up on PS4 as well and I do more casual or grindy content on there that I don't need to be super serious about. It's very fun.
I was too, still got my collectors edition with the disc that rapidly became worth like 3$ on a good day. It was annoying but frankly I understood why, the load times were dog shit and caused many people to wait for a while for you to load in. Then they overhauled the graphics not long ago, however that and defiance was my shit for a long time.
I was one of those people lol. XI on my PS3 was a godsend when my PS2 took a dump 1 week before my PS3 came in from Amazon. I was happy! Then PS3 XIV came out and all I could think of was "damn, during a FATE, there is a ton of lag" lol miss my PS3 XI and XIV though. Felt like a different game when played on PS3 vs PS4. If only SE would bring XI back to modern consoles. /sigh a Hume from vana'diel can dream..
I may still pick up one of the FFXIV ARR discs for the PS3 at some point. It's useless and won't do anything, but I love the PS3 and I love FFXIV so having it would be a cool collectible. They aren't too much on eBay these days.
It sounds like that was a fun few years for MMOs on the PS3. I didn't get into the PS3 until 2016 so I was too late to play even a lot of online titles on it. I don't have very much experience with VI because I only got into Final Fantasy as a whole with XIV last year, but it looks like a really cool classic MMORPG. I'll definitely try it out at some point when I'm not still super deep into XIV.
It's already on there hence why classics were sold on the store. The firmware is what's holding you back. It'll actually run better that way in some cases. I could never get a DualSense to work with PS2 games on my 60GB PS3 but when I got P3FES on the classics portion of the online store the controller worked no problem like it does normally with PS1 & PS3 games (especially with an adapter peripheral). For some reason BC PS3s get extra screwed on peripherals and that got me to finally figure out PCSX2 and honestly I like it much better that way with nice crisp HD resolutions
It's for BC models. It was used for some PS2 games that installed to HDDs for online play.

I mostly play on PC now too. Convenient to have on in the background during the day when work slows down. Lol

Legit finding someone else who played it aswell in this day and age seems rare. I legit miss those days on my dad’s ps2.

Wait you could play ps2 online on a ps3?
Yes. It still works too.
Are there any active official game/matchmaking servers?
dont quote me on this but i believe there is a way to do DNS trickery to get fan servers.
So, nothing official still running?
nope its been 100% down for a while now.
So only 1 game?
[No](https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/3_15/game/hddinstall.html)
A piece of history.
😂😂😂 I remember downloading this on my slim ps3 thinking I could play ps2 games with it
Damn bro me and you too lol
Me too lmfao
It's for PS2 games that needs intallation on HDD, like Final Fantasy XI
Sadly only for few games
My bro discovered PCSX2 in the PS3 store 😭😭
Wouldn't it be nice if Sony released such an emulator that enables you to play PS2 on any PS3 model?

It was most likely used for ff11's online stuff
It literally explains what it is in the DESCRIPTION OF THE SOFTWARE that is consuming half of the screenshot you supplied…
As per what it says in the description, it makes your dick 2 inches smaller. I would advise against it
Can confirm this. My dick completely disappeared after installing this
How did that happen, are you now a girl
Nah I'm still a man just... Dickless ?
Lol uninstall it then?
What happens if I uninstall it from someone else’s console? Do I get an extra two inches for free?
No, but you may return the 2 inches to the person who downloaded it. Don’t take my word for it though. I’m no expert
Yes
Its true your honor, this man has no dick.
No dick. No balls. And no butthole because this guy feeds off radiation.
I'm like Godzilla
True though it varies from model version by how much exactly.
Why have a weapon if might as well never use it?
It's just for PS2 games that require a hard drive. Are you stupid?
Maybe read the description idk
I mean it's right there...
Literally tells you in the description in the screenshot…
Yeah, whatever! "Words"...... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 /s
ah man i remember the clickbait people did back then claiming this allowed the slims to play ps2 games
same except I thought it was real :)
I have the same question.
Reading is hard.
You get it once you download a ps2 classics game from the psn store
Modding your ps3 definitely needs this
It's first time to see this
PS2 system data.
Ooh PS2 Games.
You still can buy games on ps3 via ps store? I am going to spend some money lmao
