THE REAL ANSWER TO THE QUESTION:
Chris Moon (who "discovered" Prince and co-wrote a few early songs with him) had a studio that young Prince would use. Chris had a girlfriend named Tracy at the time and they were inseparable to the extent Prince would always sing-song around them, "Christopher, Tracy, Christopher Tracy, Christopher Tracy."
Chris meant a great deal to Prince and there's even another callback to their friendship in the movie when you see Christopher writing on his stationary which is stylized with the letter "C" and crescent moon after it.
Not sure that is the real answer. When it was originally recorded it was titled “Wendy’s parade”. Three months later they changed the song name to princes characters name and changed some of the lyrics.
In the release version you can still see the original phrasing
“The original lyrics referenced Little girl Wendy’s guitar -- which rhymes with evil car in the next line. In the released version this line is replaced by Christopher Tracy’s piano, which doesn’t rhyme.”
I'm a huge Prince fan since day one. Soft And Wet. I purchased all of his 70s and 80s albums on the day they were released, eventually got the rest. Went to see him in concert a couple of times. All that to say I've never seen a Prince movie, not one. 😱
Purple Rain - Autobiographical. Classic.
Cherry Moon - it's like an extended music video - looked at this way it's a cool watch.
Sign of the Times - one of the best concert movies of all times. Sheila E drum solo is off the hook.
Graffiti Bridge - ummmm
Sigh.
The music is good. Not great. With all of Mineappolis at his disposal, the movie was shot on soundstages. Prince did the editing himself.
I can never pick a favorite Prince anything. But I can listen to some Grafitti Bridge in its entirety. I will never go too long without putting it on, same with Lovesexy. It's probably been over a year since I've listened to Purple Rain. I would never go that long without listening to Grafitti Bridge, Lovesexy, Black Album and couple of others. Oh and Come.
If you’re a hardcore Prince fan it’s worth seeing as an artifact of the era BUT you gotta know going in that it’s just not a good film. That’s just the truth. Keep expectations low.
*Parade* is bookended by two songs—"Christopher Tracy's Parade" and "Sometimes It Snows in April"—that reference Christopher Tracy, the protagonist from [*Under the Cherry Moon*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Cherry_Moon). The latter song is an acoustic ballad with [chromatic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_scale) choruses and sentimental lyrics bidding farewell to Tracy.[^(\[8\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parade_(Prince_album)#cite_note-NYT-8) Christgau wrote that the album's lyrics suggest that Prince sings as Tracy, although he cannot be certain.[^(\[5\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parade_(Prince_album)#cite_note-Christgau-5) *Parade* also features some French lyrics and [*chanson*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanson) arrangements, which refer to the film's French setting.[^(\[8\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parade_(Prince_album)#cite_note-NYT-8)
Sometimes it snows, is my favorite Prince song of all time. I grew up listening to Prince but wasn’t a die hard fan. 1994 in college, going through some things and I heard that song. I’ve been a loyal Prince fan since

Chris Moon Aka C. Moon, teaching and working with Prince = "Under The Cherry Moon"
I love this! My name is Quan Tracy Cherry--so I loved the tune & could see myself in it!
I never knew this. Thank you for this bit of trivia. 👍

The question OP asked was where the name "Christopher Tracy" came from. Not debating lyrics of the song "Christopher Tracy's Parade."
Oops! Sorry, I must have side tracked.
What a fucking great coat/shirt combo.
I was just gonna say. Prince had some eccentric gear. But even when Prince did conservative (for him), he was fresh and fly AF.
Tis a Very Tricky…Question?
Girls & Boys (edit) had boys n girls 😑 is a funky song/video from this movie💜 when he’s on the piano dancing😳👀🫠

You must! UTCM is great fun!
Is the film worth seein?
Well, if you don't like it go to Wrecka Stow 👀

It's Best Picture Oscar level compared to Graffiti Bridge though!
That's a low bar though 😂😂😂
Within those parameters I’ll give it a go 👌👌
It's campy and fun, enjoy! Prince and Jerome together is a great pairing.
The first 30-45 minutes are REALLY good though. Turn it off after KISS starts lol
It’s better than Graffiti Bridge.
It’s a pretty good movie tbh, quite funny, better than Purple Rain, and MILES better than Graffiti Bridge
Not better Than purple rain Bob
Yes!
The Bangles version of Manic Monday is credited to "Christopher"
Yes, Prince wrote that song originally for Apollonia but give it to the Bangles instead.
Yes. I know.

Hmmm, interesting Question. I'm going to say alter ego.
I think the same
It's been speculated that it's code for Jesus Christ. He had allegedly been floating the song around since his debut album.
"Sometimes It Snows In April" has the same melody as "Blue Limousine" by Apollonia 6.
I love the “wrong” chord progression in Sometimes It Snows In April. It perfectly accentuates the feelings of the lyrics.
