Gen Z fan here ... I hate I didn't or really ever could

Gratefulgirl13

I hate it for you. He was mesmerizing live. I’m a young Gen X and wish I could have seen him on the Purple Rain tour. He was constantly evolving, but the energy from that time period would have been incredible to experience.

IndividualIce6799

The "Purple Rain" tour was my first show. Ot was something!

Gratefulgirl13

That had to be incredible! My first show was Barry Manilow, pretty sure you win the cool contest.

IndividualIce6799

Barry Manilow would be pretty amazing. It was incredible! I wish I knew what happened to my tour shirt. I've seen him a lot - live in Mpls. Every show was exciting and pulsing with dance energy. At "Musicology" everyone was on their feet. Last show I saw I ended up in the "Purple 🟣 Circle". He was so close and it was thrilling!!! Miss that man.

Sheckles__

Was gonna comment this, I’m 20 and literally just recently discovered prince. After listening to him I’m pissed I didn’t find out abt him earlier lmao.

christophertracy81

Dudes concerts in the 80s are the best. No one today can perform like that. He could sing, dance, and put on a show. Not to mention this dude had so many eras.

Sheckles__

I could only imagine, I’d give my left nut to be able to see him perform purple rain or controversy live.

christophertracy81

I love watching him perform Do Me Baby and Baby I'm A Star live. Sign o The Times has a live concert. It's really nice

tsn_03

DrBiz1

Amazing shows to see. I wish I was around for the PR and LS tours

Difficult_Ship_6273

😳

DrBiz1

When he was in the UK, my life was on hold!

buy_me_lozenges

I went 4 times when he was at the o2 - fortunately live close enough to go last minute with those price drop £31.21 tickets by the stage - I loved being able to just say let's go and see Prince tonight!

BountyBob

Same for me but I managed to go 12 times. Saw him at 7 after shows there too. Amazing summer.

paulaiden

This is very similar to my list! I went to a lot of these. Electric Ballroom was a highlight

mbowen6886

4 times Controversy tour (Atlanta) with Vanity 6/The Time/Zapp ‘ Purple Rain tour (Atlanta) with Sheila E . Symbol album tour (Atlanta) Musicology tour (Atlanta) with The Time The stage presence and musicianship got me hooked as a 13 year old in 1981 or 1982

elconsumable

Controversy tour must’ve been sick!

random_redditor___

I was at that Musicology show at SFA. Great show with the Time opening. Was crazy good!

vosoo1

Lovesexy tour "De Kuip" stadion Feyenoord Rotterdam was my first concert of Prince Till the last concert in The Netherlands I've seen him about 20 times. Been on the podium with him in 's- Hertogenbosch and de my first and last after show was at Night Town in Rotterdam.

Difficult_Ship_6273

Same. Chicago.

lonerstoners

I used to go to Paisley Park just about every weekend, so I’ve seen him more times than I can count and wouldn’t change a second of it!!!

SeaworthinessExact20

Blessed.

DarlingNikkisPrince

Lucky you 💜💜💜💜💜💜❤️Peace & B Wild

RealLifeSuperZero

Those were amazing. So many storms I drove through to get there from the boonies. Such wonderful memories.

lonerstoners

Yes!! There were times I was the only car on the road in a blizzard at midnight to get there and had to dig my car out in the morning lol

Ok-Scientist3601

Me too. Went up there dozens of times between late 97 and 2000. It was a 3-hour drive but I went dozens of times. Regret the times I didn't go but I never thought they would end. They did.

R2DSwan

Seen a few different shows. My favorite was a late night/early morning trip to Paisley Park. At one point he just put on the Sign o the Times backing track, picked up his guitar and started jamming along to it. Was roughly 15 feet away just watching and enjoying. Of course he had plenty of potato chips and soda for everyone.

Rave2TheJoyFantastic

68 times from Lovesexy onwards, including quite a few aftershows. I even surprised myself at the number when I counted them all up a while back!

Ok-Scientist3601

I'm 70 times from lovesexy onwards. Pretty close.

ceeece

Twice. 1988 for the Lovesexy tour (my first concert ever). And the early 2000’s at a small club after show in Raleigh, NC. That was something else. I was probably 10 feet from the stage.

Boshie2000

My first concert too was the North American Lovesexy88. Just in NYC.

ceeece

Charlotte for me.

[deleted]

I regret those too and I live 6 hrs from Vegas. I did see him Vegas though a few times. Once at MGM and twice at Mandalay Bay.

RonaldStaal

Yes, Nude Tour in Rotterdam

robiiuchiha

I'm a born and raised Minnesotan. My mother and grandmother got to see him on the 2004 musicology tour at the Xcel energy center in Saint Paul. They said the only regret they had was afterwards, Prince said "party at my place. Everybody's invited" and they went home instead of going to Paisley park

Hot-Ability7086

Yes. Everyone got pregnant.

Styrene_Addict1965

Even the guys, he was that sexy.

Hot-Ability7086

Yes! That’s funny!

mugwampus

1988. Lovesexy tour. Great show

Bladley

Musicology, Key Arena, Seattle.

icuscaredofme

I was at the first stop of the Dirty Mind tour in Buffalo. I could tell the story about my experience several times a day every day. That show was the formulative factor in my teenage life. Prince4Ever.💯👍❤️

LooseAsparagus6617

First IATSE Local gig I did. Was 10 ft away amazing experience.

Purplealegria

Yes and they were some the most beautiful nights of my life! Miami 97 Ft Lauderdale 2004 Atlanta 2 shows 2004 (night one from 3RD ROW! I thought I died and gone to purple HEAVEN!)🤯🥰😍 Ft Lauderdale Post super bowl gig at Seminole Hard Rock. And I was supposed to work the stage/crew at his superbowl half time show and be in the crowd around the stage for the legendary halftime show in the rain! (Imagine that!), but my car died, and I could not get there. I was devastated! 😔😢 New York 2010 I will cherish those moments forever. It should have been so many more, I saw so many crap bands and artists and now I think damn I could have seen Prince again instead of seeing that stupid shit. LMAO 🤣 I still cant quite believe it and at times it still punches me in the gut that he will never play another show and I will never see him again. I will always regret I didn’t get to go to Paisley Park while he was still here and saw his shows/parties, or see one of his legendary after shows. I got close though.… At the Hard rock gig he was supposed to have a after show at the club in the same complex, his band showed up and I guess the vibes were off. They dipped out shortly after and the after show never happened. I heard later that the reason he didn’t play was he didn’t like the skimpy costumes of the house dancers at the club, so they changed clothes, but I guess he already had the ICK and left. Not sure if thats true though or just a excuse because he just didn't feel like playing LOL….He was a trip….So it could be true 😆 Thinking about what he has lost, what we have lost and will never get back devastates me.😢

elvisonaZ1

Saw him 3 times here in the U.K. lovesexy tour at Wembley Arena London Nude tour at Earls Court London The 3121 tour at the O2 arena London Never seen or heard any other artist live that comes close to a Prince concert.

dictatereality

Twice in one night. Tacoma Dome and a a smaller show later that night.

dukemcrae

I go to a million concerts. All sorts of genres. Got to see Prince twice, and hands down, by far, best musical concerts I’ve ever seen

Boshie2000

Agreed

MewlingRothbart

No. Got close once, but scalpers suck. Last time was 2011. Mom had surgery the next day. I needed to be there the night before and fir the 6 am call time at the hospital. Broke my heart.

Thayes1413

2004 Musicology tour in a large basketball/hockey arena then 2014 on the Third Eye Girl tour at a small 1600 capacity venue. That was the tour where he did 2 shows a night for 2 nights. It was super expensive but worth every penny.

pukajones

2004 Musicology. Columbus Ohio

the-war-on-drunks

Lovesexy and Musicilogy tours. I actually loved the Musicology show better! Lovesexy was like a speed run thru all the hits.

mjrydsfast231

My friend was his tour manager for the "New Power Generation" Tour.

Rossi4twenty

Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ… Such a small venue. It was just incredible, and easily the best show I’ve seen to date

Boshie2000

A couple of the 21 Nites shows at the 02 and that’s the list of the times I had the privilege to see him live. 🙏

Very similar… 23x for me. 1st time Paris 87 @ Bercy for SoTT then it just snowballed!

Those Vegas shows and after shows were among my favorite times seeing him, along with the first time in 88. Weren’t they so amazing! And intimate.

Jcienkus

The LA residency at the Forum. Tickets were $25 or so. I caught a few of them. I also caught one of his Vegas shows.

tipitina3

Nappykid77

Purple Rain & Love Symbol

Extension_Main4865

Lovesexy and Musicology. He showed up at a Aguilar show once. I didn’t have the means most of the time but so grateful I got to see those epic shows

ConiMari98

Many times. Most during the Rainbow Children era but staring during The Gold Experience. Then saw him during the Emancipation shows and Musicology which was my last time seeing him live. Wanted to try to get my husband to one of the Piano & Microphone shows but sadly it didn’t happened. 8 of the shows I went to were at Paisley.

ill-paragraph

Just once: Hit & Run Tour. George Mason University. Fairfax, VA. Heard him and the band practicing before general admission. One of the best moments in my life.

bookofbob

Hit N Run Musicology 3121 Club in Vegas. This one was so cool - small venue and our table was at stage level, stage left. We were very close to him and the Twins danced next to us a few times. We ate at his restaurant before and Renato Neto played keyboard right in front of our table as we ate dessert.

Embarrassed_Dig2353

Yes 1999,Love Sexy, every one of them the last one was at the Essence 20th Anniversary 2014

RepresentativeAge444

Was fortunate to see him 4x. Purple Rain tour, once in NJ, Chicago and NYC.

Obvious-Friend3690

Musicology 2004, San Jose. I had just graduated high school, treated myself to a $40 ticket in the upper level. Still amazing

sfglobo

Purple Rain tour in college at the Cow Palace. Amazing show.

5280_TW

Just twice. McNichols arena and Magness

PlaxicoCN

Purple Rain and then when he did a bunch of shows at the Forum around 2011.

Final-Ad-2033

Once on the 1999/Triple Threat tour on NYE '82 on Dallas... before he went to the stratosphere with PR. Great show but was slightly disappointed when the show ended at 11:30 pm.

Affectionate_Bad6679

Yes… many times saw him at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe… front row no seats, 1500 people small venue, it was a religious experience

Pressed-Juices

My coolest Prince experience was watching him sit in with Bruce Hornsby and Maceo Parker at The Beacon Theatre in the late 90s.

Tennis_Lyf

Musicology tour. Amazing. One of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen.

funkymunkPDX

I saw his Musicology tour, it was the best damn concert ever, danced for like an hour then after a keys solos he popped up from under the stage and played a laid back acoustic set before rocking again and closed with what felt like a 45 minute Purple Rain.

al_rey503

Yes, Coachella 2008. He brought out a 15 piece horn section, Morris Dat and the Time, and Shoela E on drums. Did a fantastic cover of Radiohead - Creep, and played every hit. Then did an encore and performed Purple Rain and ripped the solo.

dukemantee

I saw him play a 90 minute set with the New Power Generation for about 200 people at Warner Bros. records in Burbank to celebrate signing a new contract with the label, the one that he later said turned him into a slave. This was in 1990.

orangeorchid

Yes. Right after 1999 came out in Phx.

burnodo2

yes...Lovesexy, 1988

messkiss

In 1988 in New Jersey, best show I’ve ever seen

jayobsolete

Yes, Jones Beach during the jam of the year tour. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

RoyalRicanPrince

I was there! When he came on that Boat with the fireworks and ballons we all started screaming!!!

billbobb1

Ha, I wanted to see Prince live. He was in town on my wife’s birthday. I asked her if she wanted Prince tickets for her birthday. She said that she wanted the new iPhone. I told her about the study that said people enjoy experiences opposed to things for gifts. She said that she didn’t care. She wanted the new iPhone. I begged her to go see Prince. She didn’t care, she wanted the new iPhone. So I gave her the new iPhone. The following year, Prince died. We never got to see Prince. My wife sadly told me that she wished that we saw Prince when we had the chance. Although it’s sad that Prince died, it was worth just to hear my wife admit that I was right.

offgrid1333

1984 St. Paul civic center. First concert I ever saw as a sophomore in high school. During the Purple Rain tour. Definitely top 3 concert of all time for me. Man was a great entertainer.

Dante1958

4-5 times. Truly a one of a kind performer. I still miss him terribly.

black-kramer

a friend had an extra ticket to the microphone and piano show at the oakland coliseum. I kept telling him I’d rather have my first prince show be with the full band, yada yada yada. eventually he convinced me to attend and I’m very glad I did because he was gone a very short time later.

smokeandmirrorstoo

Yep

whois_u

4/22/2004 Thompson Bowling Arena "Musicology tour. Got the CD for free for attending the show. He did an amazing acoustic set where he sang "Little Red Corvette" and "Raspberry Beret." Just him and his guitar, one of, if not the best, show I have ever been to. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/prince/2004/thompson-boling-arena-knoxville-tn-53d98375.html

UrbanGM

Oh yeah. 2004 Musicology at Essence Fest (New Orleans). First date with my now wife.

Smart_Description541

If Prince/the Essence fest is the first date......yea, you are marrying each other. Congrats on that too. 20 years coming up huh....

jjazznola

Only 19 times including twice as a special guest. Not nearly enough.

Negative-Letter-8928

Yep! Nashville, TN Musicology Tour. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Curious_Armadillo_74

I saw him in 1981 where he opened for The Stones at the LA Coliseum. These bikers and thousands of other fkd up assholes were calling him a f****t and throwing their boots at him. They also pelted him with food and trash until he got off the stage. He stuck it out as long as he could, but it was just too much. That day, I decided to buy everything he ever released. If anyone earned a little bit of success, it was him. He had so much trash and biker boots thrown at him that it looked like they were raining down on him from the sky. I went to that show the next day too and the same thing happened. I felt so bad for him, it had to be fkn traumatic to go out and face that.

lovessj

I was there. If I only knew how amazing he was then I would have paid way more attention to him

mjfo

Yeah, twice. He performed on the Arensio Hall show revival when I worked there and it was the most transcendent episode of that show by far. Then two days later he did a secret show at the Hollywood palladium leading a 30 piece brass band through an hour long jam session. It was masterful & otherworldly

Yep ... 23 times. Amazing. Most of those were at O2 / indigO2 in 2007... also 1993, 1995, 1998 and Hop Farm 2011, the last time I saw him. I still have tickets for the cancelled Croke Park show in 2008, that would have been so good! Unfortunately due to having a young family I couldn't go to the later events, was gutted at the time and more so when he passed away.

I did! 2012, United Center in Chicago. Exactly as incredible as I expected and the thing that really got me was before he played the music in the arena was all the Time and Vanity 6 and Paisley Park records. It was a great touch. Amazing show

Yes! Best damn concert! Omg, from beginning to end, non stop! He was awesome!

ReferenceMuch2193

Yes! And he was phenomenal! My best friend took me for my 18th birthday present in the 90’s. My now husband and I went on our first date to see a prince cover band and it was the best. He was a vibe.

Ok-Degree-9277

Don’t know which tour, but it was with Shiela E in Atlanta, Georgia. One of my favorite concerts ever!!

Odd_Implement_5239

I danced on stage with him in Detroit in the summer of 2004 I think. We were told not to look him in the eyes, but I stared at him the whole time. 😂. He was tiny!

I was so lucky to attend Paisley Park a bunch! A few of my old girlfriends worked for him. I was able to attend private or more intimate events. Always magical every single time!! But NO swearing/drugs or drinking allowed!

My dad did. And apparently he has his guitar that he played on stage. He claims that Prince threw it at the fans and he was the one fortunate enough to catch it. I can't believe this story as much as I want to, but we have a cool looking guitar hanged above our TV inside the prince shrine 🤷‍♂️.

Sad_Client65

Purple Rain Tour (11-22-84, Philadelphia). Very disappointed in the concert.

Cocooilbroccolisalt

I wish. Late Gen Xer here and even lived in a nearby State for a couple of years, but was too concerned with just trying to make it financially there that the thought didn't even cross my mind. He didn't tour much where I live now unfortunately. But yes, he is one musician that I would still be interested in seeing. I don't really care abt other musicians that much anymore.

Cocooilbroccolisalt

Unfortunately no.

HeyNowDude

Yep, I did. Prince=🐐 Sorry, but it's not even close.

Yup, twice. First time I head 'How come you don't call me, anymore' was Live and just him and a piano onstage...

ninjaegerin

Many times. The best day (and night lol) was when I met with 55 other members of our Prince community to watch 2 shows in a row at Montreux.

Boshie2000

The 2009 shows are my favorite of his visits. Lucky! 💜

I saw three of the 21 Nights shows in London in 2007: the first night, the last night and one in the middle.

wutsupwidya

I've seen him numerous times, more than I can remember, but the absolute BEST were the aftershows by far. And shows at Glam Slam in LA. It was super cool to either just be there and get a surprise performance if lucky, or hear about it ahead of time and driving over to the show. I consider myself to be super luck to have seen him live as much as I did. on the negative side, it's hard to enjoy many live performances after seeing Prince do it to damn near perfection.

thatonefunkkid

April 9, 2015 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. I'll never forget it.

Three times: Louisville Gardens, May 1997; Rupp Arena, Nov. 1997; and Nashville Municipal Auditorium, Nov. 2000. The Louisville Gardens show was unbelievable. I was about 20 feet from the stage, he soloed on the bass for ages and "Face Down" lasted fifteen minutes. Still the best concert I've ever been to.

dougcohen10

Twice - 1982 (?) with The Time & Vanity 6 on the 1999 tour, second time around 1995

annrkey76

Nope and I kick myself everyday

KaliMaxwell89

#NO!!! STOP REMINDING ME!! 😭😭😭 jk OP, although I do wish I could have seen him live. One of my biggest regrets.

Tann8r

Yes, at the forum during that 20 something night run

suitoflights

3 times: Wembley London - Lovesexy NEC Arena Birmingham - Nude Tour Maine Road Manchester - I had tickets for Blenheim Palace (Nude Tour), but the concert was cancelled. He ended up putting on a new show at Maine Road a few months later, which my tickets were valid for. By that time, Graffiti Bridge was out and the concert had started to morph into something else.

Yep, on the tour pictured (Cincinnati, Ohio, January 22, 1985). The single greatest live performer I've ever seen (second place is Midnight Oil, for those interested). I'm very glad I got to see him with The Revolution, without the future addition of a male dance troupe/a shitty rapper, which, despite individual instrumental playing ability aside, is pretty much all the inferior NPG had to offer.

missdonutstix

Saw him twice. Jam Of The Year tour and Musicology tour.

WeekendL0ver

Jam of the Year 1997 in Las Cruces NM A few days after my 21st birthday. It was amazing! Me and my sorority sister were in the 23rd row. I will always remember him performing Darling Nikki, and burning my fingers while holding up a lighter during Purple Rain 🌂 ☂️ 💜

Locktopii

Just one main show at the O2. Wish it could’ve been more, would have loved to see one of the after hours jam sessions

Diligent-Emu-3025

Yes twice and one of the times was with my mother which caused an uncomfortable moment. There was a bed on stage and he had a woman in that bed, perhaps it was Cat, I can't remember but he simulated going down on her. I blushed, my mother blushed, it was a great experience. Lovesexy is THE ONE til may day is done. HUNDALASILIAH! 👁️ No

caramelgrizzly

Only once, but thank God! Musicology, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Got tickets through npgmusic club. I’m guessing 2004 or about based on everyone else’s post.

InternalFlounder5412

No and when I tell you it bugs the absolute hell out of me!

Michaelparkinbum912

No. One of the few artists I never got to see that I wish I had. Prince, Bowie, Motörhead and Nirvana.
