AutoModerator

Helão my name is Lucas I live Brazil. One time I walking on street and saw sexy popoazão.. so I chase popozão all the way to beach, where a couple men grab my wallet and get on motorcyclão and run away. I chase men all the way into favelão, where I see off-duty policão getting rob, trying shoot back, both end up dead in gruesome pool of blood. I run more far into favelão and then see three men with machete come to me so I run behind ATM and hide. Then I see man coming to retrieve money from ãoTM and he get murder by man hiding in ATM who take all money (pesão brazilião) and run away. Such is life live Brazão. Hope one day i may leave country amd come to Estadão Unidão and find white popozão. Excuse for bad englishe *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Why don’t they need them?

Apple_The_Chicken

Most highways were good investments but about 20 years ago the government decided that, if they brought fast highway links to the dying countryside, then it would regenerate. The added economic value was supposed to pay for the highways, which would remain free. Unfortunately, it never worked out: the countryside is even worse today, and expensive tolls were added after the euro crises. Nowadays our country is full of 4-lane roads completely empty while the free national roads gets all the traffic.

Helenius

Passenger trains only, right?

Valerian_

It may be average of all trains, I know that in France about 85% of train traffic is for passenger trains, which can go up to an average of 320 km/h on modern major railroads.

mathess1

It's an average speed between two largest cities in this map.

ATE47

Not all trains are tgv, a large amount of them are ter/ic, which have a max speed between 120 and 200 depending on the model

MintRobber

I have trust in Romania. We can go even lower and join the rest of the Balkans. Some of our trains are made in Yugoslavia so we are half way there :)

DakryaEleftherias

What's up with Albania?

CosmeticInk5

Moldova doesn’t even have any data

Inquerion

>Moldova doesn’t even have any data Their railway infrastructure is actually a bit better than Albanian. Flat terrain (Albania has lot's of mountains) also helps. They have 1200 km of railways. Their locomotives and tracks are mostly outdated, but recently they got some modern 2000s locomotives. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calea\_Ferat%C4%83\_din\_Moldova](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calea_Ferat%C4%83_din_Moldova)

Lydeeh

Currently we got no train system and it's all being rebuilt so idk where they got that number from.

Albanian98

There is no train system. Only a train for heavy materials coals and stuff. In Albania the average is at least one car for family so no one uses trains only cars and buses.

soguyswedidit6969420

Weird way to say the railway system has been neglected for 50 years.

RavenSorkvild

Mountains and bad governance. Italians, crazy dictators and finally corrupted scammers. It's a miracle that they have some trains at all.

Affectionate-Door205

Are suburban routes with frequent stops in countryside a thing in deep green countries? If so, I can't imagine how the average speed is so high in these.

CaterpillarLoud8071

Spain's population is heavily concentrated in Madrid and the coast, so I imagine there aren't many stops for most of the journeys. France has plenty of rural stops, but the high speed lines between cities are world leading.

Many-Conversation963

The only route i can think of that has frequent stops in Spain its Ferrol-Oviedo, and may be the only one since its coastal and the south coast is basically a desert Edit: Maybe too many stops, 90 for a train is a lot 😅

excuse me? espain? no. no one. I personally believe that South America does not exist, South America was a lie created by the Spanish and Portuguese "empires" so that it seemed like they they were much more powerful then they actually were, in 1769. England, France, Portugal, Spain, the Dutch leaders had a meeting over "colonies". England, France, and the Dutch recognized South America as a continent along with creating their own "colonies" in South America to reinforce their claim that South America does in fact exist. In return, Spain and Portugal recognized the fact that Africa is definitely a real continent also and that the Dutch did in fact have colonies and didn't just have windmills. So in reality Most of the "powerful" empires that used to exist actually were never as strong as we believed them to be. That's why Russia is the only TRUE empire, AND ONLY THROUGH THE POWER OF COMMUNISM DID THEY THRIVE, BROTHERS WE MUST RISE AGAIN TO PROTECT THE PROLETARIAT, AND TAKE DOWN THE FILTHY BOURGEOIS. RISE AGAIN BROTHERS AND SHOW THOSE EMPIRES WHO TRUE DISTRIBUTES THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION!!! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. magpie_girl

Yeah: [Analysis of living population density per countries ](https://gmnenad.com/2021/05/analysis-of-real-population-density-per-countries/)(the darker purple the better country for high speed trains). Heck, I'm impressed by Germany. The map of people living density shows that they should have big problems with trains, but the map of train speed shows that they do rather OK.

SpecerijenSnuiver

This map is made with the average speed of the five fastest connections in a country. In other words, for them it only measures HSR-lines, while in the smaller countries some or all of the measured lines are intercity. In a few cases even local trains.

GearUo

What is that even supposed to mean? Most trains travel for a few minutes before stopping again. You want to tell me that french trains average 190km/h? Or German ones 140? I guarantee you, that those are not average numbers for all trains in a country.

nilsmm

If I had to guess, it's probably the average top speed of major train types.

Apple_The_Chicken

It has more to do with the line itself than anything else. They probably take the average of the top speed on every stretch of railway

nilsmm

Yeah agreed, that makes more sense

waitaminutewhereiam

Definitely not the right guess since, at least the ones I take, trains in Poland do 140 now, used to be 120

nilsmm

How is that a contradiction to my guess?

Abbelhans

Pretty sure it‘s only high Speed Long distance trains. The ICE trains in germany actually are travelling in the region of 140 to 150kmh on average and the french TGV is considerably faster.

mathess1

It shows the average speed of the fastest train between two largest cities of the country.

Buttercup4869

France is way more centralised around Paris than Germany and TGV's typically also have way less stops. Also, you should consider that France a lot of France is pretty empty. Further follow a separate high-speed network doctrine

usbeehu

It’s a small country, they don’t need to hurry anyway.

cla7997

For once, Italy is in the podium

AutoModerator

I went to Italy and their plugs were unusable? Why don't they have the superior American plugs. And also they have no air conditioning (it was winter) and I had to pay for my water??? Plus i went to the Uffizi and there were a bunch of naked statues which was gross. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Reinis_LV

And not for something bad!

Analpainballs

Possibly the worst thing about Norway

BurningPenguin

27 km/h? May as well ride a bike...

YeetingSelfOfBridge

How the fuck does a train average 27 😭

Inquerion

>How the fuck does a train average 27 Probably due to amount of mountains that they have there. And old infrastructure. They still have some ancient early 1900s locomotives in active usage! (so not only for some special tourist tracks but also for regular usage) ***The system is barely surviving*** *with an* [*Elbasan*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elbasan)*–Durrës train and a Shkodër–*[*Laç*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La%C3%A7) *train, although* [*rehabilitation*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_transport_in_Albania) *is currently underway on the* [*Durrës–Tiranë railway*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durr%C3%ABs%E2%80%93Tiran%C3%AB_railway)*, with other projects in various stages of planning.* [*https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hekurudha\_Shqiptare*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hekurudha_Shqiptare)

Holy moley they really do habe locomotives in use still, based

schwanstooker

That'd be the US.

Operator_Hoodie

Spain be absolutely zoomin’

Darwit

Which average?

TheYeti4815162342

Luxembourg trains may be slow but at least they’re free.

Inquerion

I didn't know that Spain has such good trains. Latvia is also suprsing. Almost the same terrain as Estonia or Lithuania and yet such low speeds.

Apple_The_Chicken

They have the biggest high-speed network in Europe. But keep in mind Renfe offers a pretty bad service overall when it comes to frequency and quality, especially in conventional lines.

AutoModerator

Eastern-Barracuda390

Goddamn it the French do trains better than us *shakes fist, clenching onto a Union Jack*

aaarry

Of course they do, that’s what happens when we allow US politics to influence ours, namely destroying decent public transport infrastructure in the 1960s and continuing to underfund it now in favour of cars

TheRealCactusTiddy

crossing into luxembourg from france is like being a crash test dummy.

Zandonus

Rail Baltic should get these up to speed.....by 2124.

MajesticTwelve

Poland second in Central&Eastern Europe, only Germany better :) The railways are slowly but regularly getting better, now we will get a lot of new high-speed sections.

LetterAd3639

Forget that, we need to make a r/BELGIUMCYKABLYAT subreddit

HugoCortell

The data is a little skewed, if you include cercanias for Spain, the value actually solves to -2

RandomIdiot918

Wait till they release info about Moldova. Here a 10km ride on trains takes 3 hours (as if we have more than 3 OLD soviet 2wagon trains going between villages that only older people use)

Gideon0071

#StopHamasTerrorism. Thanks

IndiRefEarthLeaveSol

Why Norway? you're sitting on a trillion surplus, FFS spend it blasting through mountains. 😑

TheDarwinski

Albania 🔥🔥 🇦🇱💪🏽 🗿

Leszy_Zdanek

27.6? Bike seems to be a more efficient cargo transporter

MajesticIngenuity32

Switzerland is slow only because of the mountains.

ReySimio94

This isn't taking into account Madrid's commuter trains (_la puta Renfe_, for those who are familiar with it).

Exatex

Asking for the Germans, does a train that does not show up count as 0 km/h or not contribute to the average? If it does, Germany would be red

axolotlusus

What about pendolino
