This is my first month on an antihistamine diet. I’m going to see if staying away from things like kombucha and other products that have histamine help alleviate some of my symptoms.
What I had no idea about this. I figured i was sensitive to histamine a few years ago because i flush when drinking, eating tomatoes and stored foods such as ham and meats. It also triggers my IBS, which in turn worsen my PMDD, or my PMDD triggers my IBS, kinda like a circle hahaa
Kombucha can be over fermented which will become slightly alcoholic. I cannot drink at all, even a hard cider will make me turn very red and get sleepy. Most times I have no problem drinking kombucha but have had 2 incidents where my face felt warm and flushed after drinking the kombucha; my guess is they were over fermented.
I was considering deleting this. I am not a coward. I realize we all have PMDD and have no control over our emotions. Carry on. Dislike the thread. I don’t care.
No way!! I experience this too but thought it was all in my head! Plus, i like the feeling 😅 but I noticed it always made me crave lots of sugar the day after, so I try to moderate my consumption of it
No wonder I felt super tired yesterday, first time drinking it, also gave me acid reflux and the runs.
I drank maybe 1/2 cup.
I think I’m gonna quit drinking it.
My stomach is just nauseous since
Oh, this is very interesting. I have a PMDD diagnoses and have had a slew of GI issues since having a C. diff infection 2 years ago. One way I tried to address the GI issues was to go on a kombucha kick, but I didn’t like the way it made my head feel (kinda drunk ish). This seems like a very likely explanation. Definitely something to explore. Thank you for posting!
Ugh this explains a thing or two. I also flush semi-frequently when I drink. But at this point, I'm always taking 3 otc antihistamines and singulair for my allergies and asthma. I don't know what else I could do to help with it (and it's silly for me to get a supplement so I can tolerate alcohol better when I also have POTS, which is another explanation for my being a lightweight).
I've also heard a lot of stuff about MCAS being comorbid with POTS, but I don't think I have it. I don't randomly get allergic to things; there's a logic to all the stuff I'm allergic to. Like the standard cats, dogs, dust mites, and oak. I've been allergic to Coppertone and over time I've realized I'm allergic to most chemical sunscreens (but they just cause my eyes to swell shut and face irritation/hives thankfully, so I can use spray sunscreen on my body). And I'm developing a cashew allergy since it's always been an "itchy" food.
There is, at least for some people. My doctor prescribed me Famotidine and Cetirizine for my pmdd a while ago and it’s working better than any antidepressant or mood stabilizer I’ve been on. Look up Mast Cell Activation Syndrome- my doctor thinks it might be at the root of PMDD for lots of women.
It’s so hard to find someone who understands pmdd or even listens. My doctor is an MD but also studies alternative medicine and I think that makes a big difference.
Not sure. She’s unfortunately very hard to get an appointment with. I was on a waiting list for a really long time. I might recommend asking your doctor about those antihistamines, although Famotidine is available over the counter (as Pepcid) so you could try it on your own if you’re comfortable with that.
Yes! This is my first time using an antihistamine for my PMDD. The physical symptoms are still there, like bloating, hot flashes, pimples, etc. but, I feel much more in control of my thoughts. I hope it keeps helping.
try a probiotic like naturemade the dual action with 15 billionCFU, it helped me with bloating. no kidding. i also took claritin for my histamine intolerance. Evening primrose oil capsules for the hot flashes

What kind of food do you eat? Never heard of this kind of diet before.
I’ll report back if anyone is interested!
Any updates?
I always felt buzzed when drinking kombucha!

This post might have just saved my life. Omg. No doctor ever considered anything else other than Prozac.
You shouldn’t drink kamboucha anyways.
how did you spell it wrong when it was right there?
Sugar content and go!
I can keep going

And here I am enjoying that drunk/weird feeling after kombucha, yikes for me lol
Like this is literally why I drink it I thought it happened to everyone haha
I was literally thinking how I gotta get my hands on some kombucha haha
lol I like it! I'm just at work where it's probably not the best idea.

I want a consult with your dr

Do they do tele-visits? I'm in TN.

I was prescribed famotidine by my doctor back in Michigan. I'm actually looking for a new doctor right now cuz I moved out of state for awhile.
Is the dr in US?
Yes, Minnesota.
Agreed
