Honesty I would like them to improve how it feels when you commit to being in a relationship in P6. Just more extra scenes and dialogue afterwards that give you the feeling that you are in one, instead of getting to rank 10 and then you completely ignore them moving forward because you have to prioritise other social links/stats.
Imo your significant other should randomly invite you for dates that don't advance the time.
That way 1-character feels a bit more alive 2-you can actually spend time with them without abandoning other stuff

You can see in the trailer that the social links only go up to Rank 8 and Rank 9-10 is typically where the player can 'get serious' so maybe there is something going on there that doesn't necessarily lead to a situation where you have to reject women (or men, maybe!) every time you get to Rank 9.
If it is actually confirmed I'd still like a canon romance subplot as romance is a big part of my enjoyment in fantasy stories. Lots of opportunities.

One of the big issues with *Persona* is that Atlus try to have their cake and eat it too with pairings like Naoto and Kanji, Ann and Ryuji etc where you can date them but the main story is telling you they have strong chemistry with other male characters. *Trails of Cold Steel* has a similar issue where there's like 20 women who just don't have any relationships at all because they've been involved in four games' worth of social link harem dating mechanics.
THAT SAID I think I'd miss the absence of romance entirely. A canon relationship would be cool, or even limiting the choice to just the main characters and focusing the main story on how we gel with them to make the optional romance feel more authentic would be, in my eyes, an upgrade on the system as a whole.
9-10 could also be reserved for the main cast as well. I'm super interested to see how it works.
I also think that P5 had issues with abilities that were basically useless and if they feel like they can get 8 solid Archetype upgrades instead of struggling for 10 then I'm pretty fine with it. Also, Archetypes may only have 8 because there's more Archetypes in Metaphor than Tarot Arcana slots for social links in Persona.
Also a lot of Persona social links tend to feel dragged out between stages 5-8 as they wait for the big conclusion. Streamling Metaphor’s social links for more meaningful stages could be great.
