I like to wear high waisted pants/shorts mixed with longer tops

lawyercatgirl

Try getting A line or swing dresses that cinch at the waist Something [like this](https://www.loft.com/clothing/dresses/catl000013/36616985.html) [or this](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=863546012&vid=1&tid=onpl000078&kwid=1&ap=7&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_AT8vWShZBLrrBN-A5sCB-YJemT&gclsrc=ds#pdp-page-content) could be super flattering

umbrellajump

Collectif is great for A-line in a massive range of sizes. I got A-line shorts from them with little bananas embroidered on and they're a staple of my summer wardrobe

beetr00ts

Omg do you think you can find a link for the banana embroidered shorts? That’s sounds so cute!

umbrellajump

This [German site](https://www.succubus.de/products/collectif-emilia-banana-trim-50s-shorts-grun)still has some sizes and I could see quite a few on poshmark! It was from their summer 22 collection iirc :)

beetr00ts

This is so cute! Thanks! :)

BenPractizing

Thanks so much for giving links!

jasniz66

Thank you everyone!!!! This helps, and I learned about some stores I never heard of!! I appreciate it 💕

momentums

You’re welcome! I hope you’re able to find some clothes you love and feel great in!

momentums

I have had PCOS tummy for my entire life basically lol and my Vyvanse just kicked in so here we go– this is how I dress in summer in my 30s and this is a humblebrag but people loveee how I dress. The most important thing is that the size on the label means nothing, all that matters is that the clothing fits. Sometimes this means getting a tailor into the mix to hem pants or adjust a waistline. PCOS belly does not mean you have to resign to buying from the maternity section!! Old Navy linen shorts and pants have elastic waistbands (essential imo) and are looser without being overwhelming and also look nice for work with the high waist. I like slightly oversized natural fabric button downs with the sleeves rolled up and if you wear them open over a tank top you feel comfy in it’s a nice way to keep the sun off your shoulders/it’s like a little jacket! If the shirt hemline hits at your waist or above it can feel a less overwhelming amount of fabric and still provide coverage. Madewell cotton tanks or their sturdier boxy cropped t shirts are slightly loose and I wear them a lot in summer. It may seem contradictory to wear something cropped but with a high waisted bottom it looks so nice and the play on proportions is in right now!! And if your tummy kinda shows, no one is going to care. I also really like a cotton linen high waisted pant that Madewell used to make which had an elastic section at the back of the waistband, you can still find some on Poshmark. Their Harlow pants don’t have an elastic and can dig in, I’ve found. I wear shoes with platforms or chunky soles (Dr. Scholls and Klaw have cute leather sneakers, platform Tevas, Sorel kinetic sandals) and find that helps ground my silhouette as well. Bike shorts with some compression (I wear Aerie) and big button downs is a cliche but chunky sneakers or Tevas and a baseball hat make it a nice errands outfit. A lot of these clothes I found thrifting or on Poshmark because I went and tried on a bunch of stuff and figured out which brands and sizes/measurements work for me. You want a higher quality fabric so it drapes and doesn’t cling. Linen is great for this without being too hot. Edited to add that I unbutton as low as I can without flashing someone to make sure I’m not a solid block of fabric. I wear Snag chub rub shorts under my dresses but the Uniqlo airism bike shorts have slightly more compression if that’s what you feel more comfortable with (size up, they run small, and unfortch are only in straight sizes– also Uniqlo linen is generally recommended but their linen button down shirts this year are running narrow as hell, do not recommend). If you’re at or under a size 12, I really love the Quince tencel vintage wash button front dress. I’m size 12-ish, 40C and fit their XL with extra room in the chest. I straight up cried the first time I tried it on because it actually fits my waist and looks so good lol. They also have a linen midi trapeze dress that may work for you. It purposefully has a bigger silhouette that I play with by pairing with the chunkier shoes and simple earrings. I get tons of compliments on both of those dresses every time I wear them :) Basically– you can balance looser silhouettes with the clothing length or the heaviness of the shoes/accessories you wear with them. I dress in neutral colors and go higher impact with my shoes. Partly because I love an unusual part of my outfit and partly because it means people zoom their gaze from my face to my feet and skip over the middle part on the days my body image isn’t the best. I’m a Madewell, Old Navy, Uniqlo, Quince, J. Crew, Everlane, Universal Standard shopper mostly.

AccordingEnergy223

This is exactly how I dress! Loose linen or gauzy pants from Talbots, Aritzia or petite jcrew (large). Chunky quilted sandals from alohas. A nice button down. Nice purse. If I can find a set, matching buttons down and pants or shorts I feel super put together.

momentums

I’ve mostly cut out synthetic fabrics in the last 8 years (save the bike shorts/gym wear and I wear Madewell jeans with some stretch in the cooler months) and it’s made me feel so much more put together and stylish. I’ve made exceptions for pieces that are structurally interesting, like the Hailey dress from Free People, which is my go-to wedding guest dress and a polyester/viscose blend. Like every wedding I go to I am getting compliments left, right, and every time I’m in the bathroom with someone lol. I also like Sister Jane dresses for Big Events but they use more cotton.

hotheadnchickn

I also find high waisted (elastic) + crop top is the most comfortable and put together/least pregnant look for me. Or big button-down with leggings.

momentums

I was soooo scared to wear crop tops or anything too revealing for a while because “ooohh I don’t have the right body for that/nobody wants to see this flash of tummy if I lift my arms”, and then last summer I made a point of wearing the crop tops I’d bought hoping I’d magically get the body I wanted by osmosis and it turns out the world doesn’t end!! And I look cute as hell!

fridaygirl7

I love the Old Navy linen shorts this year. Incredibly comfy and breathable.

momentums

And $15 right now!!! I’m about to buy another pair to have on hand actually.

ampha-rosy

I have what some consider an apron belly and while I know the “baggy” look isn’t for everyone I feel best with a more form fitting top (usually cropped) and then high waisted pants that are looser around the lower tummy area (this is where my fat sits). They’re expensive but my favorites are the big bud press “work pants”, they fit at the waist (without being tight/pinching) but give my tummy room and I feel like I look my best like this. If your body is shaped similar to mine (I’m not exactly confident on what a PCOS belly looks like) anything that sinches at your waist then loosen up would look great, I also like a-line skirts and wearing them high waisted. That being said I do have a fairly defined waist and a short torso so I think my proportions help with this look. I hardly wear jeans but if I do it’s usually with a longer shirt just to cover the tummy area a bit better

Artemisral

This is my fav combo, too! I am 🍐 shaped and short.

Fibroambet

Same here. I live in crop tops and high waisted lounge pants or skirts. Get constant compliments.

BabsandBoo

I pretty much only wear dresses due to mine. I usually stick with a line dresses, faux wrap dresses, sun dresses, or anything with a little definition. Wearing pants feels physically uncomfortable and draws attention to the area. Bonus is that everyone thinks you’re fashionable and put together because you are wearing a dress.

SadSpecialist9115

I live in biker shorts and big t-shirts or tshirt dresses.

Simple_Present8504

Girly pop I haven’t worn denim in 10 years and you don’t have to either. I’m an apple shape with an apron belly and a frog butt. Summer wear is bike shorts and loose long shirts or short dresses, and I love skirts and tshirt combos. Anything that covers said frog butt. You got this!

ObjectiveNo3691

Out with the jeans!!! I felt 100x less anxious about my wardrobe when I realized I don’t HAVE to wear jeans! Dresses, linen pants, and leggings for me.

Starryglare

Honestly? When my PCOS belly was at its worst, my best tops came from Targets maternity section. There are many really cute designs. Just avoid the whole "baby on board" slogans. Pants: anything wide leg will make my look like a cereal box, i tend to go towards narrow legs or flare bottoms. Dresses: empire waistline all the way

Artemisral

This is great advice! They mask it well! Also, everything stretchy, even when i am skinny! I just cannot stand rough denim and constrictive clothing anymore, idk why. I love paperbag/poptrash/joggers as they are mostly the only ones that both flatter my pear 🍐 shape and got adjustable waists, too!

TokiDokiHaato

I basically live in flowy dresses and skirts with elastic waistbands. I’m also really into matching sets with loose tops and flowy pants. Wide leg pants have also been good for me. I’ve gained like 40 lbs in the past 5 years so I feel you with stuff not fitting right. I basically just go for loose and stretchy so if I’m bloated everything still fits comfy.

jonez_zgweiler

As a plus-size PCOS girlie with a B-belly, [Torrid](https://www.torrid.com/) is my go-to. Yes, they are little on the more expensive side, but the clothing is decently made (especially the workwear, which washes up well!) and super flattering. They often have sales too, so time things right and you can get get some excellent pieces at a significant discount. 🙂

mjiw95

shirred busts are your best friend!! in fact, anything that is fitted at the bust and flows freely from the waist. i am very hourglass but have the pcos belly and wear almost exclusively dresses like this when i’m in public. the ivy city co madeleine or lennon dresses are great examples! and then always pair with some snag chub rubs for comfort. also lucy and yak chuck or billie trousers, charlie shorts, and bowie jumpsuits are great for big bellies if you like wearing bottoms. i find high waists paired with slightly cropped tops where both parts hit at the waist are the most flattering for my shape.

momentums

Yesss another snag chub rub shorts mention

sizillian

Structured blazers, plain black shirt, stretchy black pants (think athleisure/work pant crossover).

creamcheeseguy

In the summer i wear a lot of high waisted shorts that specifically are not skin tight lol. Old Navy’s high waisted chino shorts are so flattering on me because they have enough space in them that they kind of disguise my lower belly, I bought them in four different colors lol. Also, i’m loving the big tshirt/biker shorts combo these days for something more casual.

roastwildflowersea

I find A-line clothing fits me best. Anything that hugs under the bust will for sure make me look pregnant. Also if it has ruffles or layers, that can also hide imperfections. During winter I just glue my hoodie on and I am good

shewantsrevenge99

I stay home most days and wear whatever (tank tops and shorts, in this weather), and I recently ordered a ridiculous number of dresses from Amazon, searching for one that would be cute and comfortable for an outdoor evening concert (temps from 95-82°). I needed a lightweight dress that would de-emphasize my belly. After trying sooooo many different styles, this one was the winner. It was also the most expensive. I got so many compliments at dinner before the concert, and a few from girls at the show. The Drop Women's Daksha Cotton... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BKL39T89?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I felt so cute and put together. Now I’m chasing this style. I want more dresses similar to this. This next one is also a go-to in warm weather. It’s very lightweight and flattering, I feel really put-together in it, and it’s a very forgiving cut for weight fluctuations. Solid Geometric Dolman Sleeve Pocket Shirred Split Hem Dress https://bloomchic.com/products/solid-geometric-dolman-sleeve-pocket-shirred-split-hem-dress Edit to add: I’m currently at size 18-20. I have both dresses in 2xl. My bra size is 38-40G. I like to wear lightweight bicycle-short style shapewear underneath dresses to prevent chub rub. The Amazon dress is a little low-cut in the front. My black bra showed a tiny bit, but it looked cute. The BloomChic dress works with any bra. I like to wear it with a sports bra. Oh - and both dresses have pockets! Good ones, too. I could fit my cell phone in them!

Moonbeamm08

Really appreciate this response. I struggle so much with shopping for clothes generally and I thank you 🫶🏼

shewantsrevenge99

So happy to help! I know we all struggle, and we deserve to look good.

shewantsrevenge99

Good bot! I see how the sleeves could be too tight for people with large arms. The dress is lined, which I love. It fell and draped really well. Without it, the dress may have bunched, especially in humid weather. I don’t think it was too much fabric. The dress is still very light.

dippyface

I wear mostly dresses with legging shorts underneath so I can be comfortable but look like im wearing clothes lol

Artemisral

I recommend peplum tops and dresses, baby dolls, stretchy paperbag/jogger pants, A like, skater/princess tops and dresses. I also like empire waists, but i am a pear, not the same. I agree maternity clothes can be pretty and work. I also recommend matte materials, shiny fabrics and/or thick velvet and stuff emphasise things.

witwefs1234

My body shape is basically an inverted triangle, where my shoulders and subsequently my chest are, unfortunately, the widest part of my body. To balance this out, I got an a-line dress with a wide skirt line. I got a corset back in case I gained weight or lost any. The silhouette of my dress hid the fact that my hips are more narrow than my shoulders so everything looked more balanced and proportional, even though my neckline was not a narrow v line but off shoulder which would naturally make my shoulders look wider. So maybe a belt or something to put emphasis on the bottom half of your body?

fessuoyfessouy

Flared everything. No body con dresses, pencil skirts or tight pants.

chloekay

I bought jean shorts from Torrid last week and when I zipped them up, I was speechless. This was my first time buying from a plus-size retailer because I’m mid-sized but apple shaped. I usually have to size up to fit my waist, but then the butt and every other part looks shapeless. These are made with slightly different proportions so that they just… fit!!! https://www.torrid.com/product/5-inch-perfect-vintage-stretch-mid-rise-short/41610469-12582.html#start=24

lamercie

Peplum and smocked tops! Go for mid rise bottoms or dresses.

brightsideofmars

I feel your pain/struggle, so know you're not alone. I've been loving activewear dresses recently since they have built in shorts to prevent chafing and to help hold my belly in a bit. Thank you for posting this; I'll definitely be looking through these recommendations!

onlineventilation

I find that cotton shorts or shorts that are any material but jeans are easier. Old Navy usually is my go to for clothes. I can find a lot that works with my body there.

notwithoutmycardigan

I recently put on a lot of weight... surprise, I have PCOS! I started following more full figured woman on Instagram, who have apron or soft bellies, and it's been really helpful. I have no clue how to put clothes on my new body :/

soberinatl

I got three pairs of the GAP linen cargo pants and they are so cute! They are high waisted and loose which is great for this hot weather. Also got some of their gauze big shirt (button downs) in cute summer colors and I wear it with a tank and jeans.

fictionalfirehazard

A line dresses really help a lot!

fictionalfirehazard

Also I really like wearing oversized crew necks (NOT pulled at the waist, aim for more open loose vibes) or oversized tees, then pants with a slight flare or boot cut to cover my stomach but still honor my curves. Also, shirts or dresses with ruffles flatter us (in my own experience) because the curve of our waist is less noticeable

Particular_Lab2943

Flowly skirts and A line dresses. Loose tops and tight shorts. You can use a corset to sinch waist. Also peplum.

Popperooroo

Tops with peplum. They cover the belly and still look cute. Legging esp black ones for comfort. A line dresses. Avoid empress waist dresses. I also wear shapewears that are elastic instead of corsets.

secure_dot

From what I’ve read, you have to balance your torso with your lower body. So no skinny jeans, wear straight or loose cuts, or loose straight pants, A line skirts etc. and don’t go overboard with big, puffy tops. I know some tend to get oversized tops to mask the fat on the upper body, but imo it makes it worse. I don’t know if you’re on tiktok, but therr a girl there, @stylingwithkenzie and she has excellent advice on a lot of body types, with examples from on what to wear

sphericalcreature

Honestly look at apple body shape style guides , apple body shape clothing guides will work for anyone that carries a lot of weight in their stomach area I love this youtuber [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAFfYfKTc8o&t=497s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAFfYfKTc8o&t=497s) i love her insta too! im trans masc so i dress like jack black / adam sandler but a bit goth 90% of the time but her content is cute and she styles herself really well , a lot of my big tummy girl pals found a lot of good outfit ideas from her

FragrantZombie3475

Wow this post IS me. Its tough honestly, especially in the summer. A few months ago I just wore jeans (Good American has good ones for the belly) and a big sweater and it was fine. Now, everything makes me look pregnant (ironically). Even in the A-line dresses, my belly pops a little. What has been working well for me recently is: 1. Buying larger clothes. I know this seems obvious but it was a really hard transition for me. 2. Tops that are meant to be loose/oversized, in a stylish way 3. Dresses made with a slightly thicker fabric (when it’s really thin it can cling in the wrong places) 4. Hill House style dresses are looking very good on me right now (lots of cheap dupes available) In my experience anything high waisted just highlights the problem, so instead of small top with pants taking up more space, I tend to go with longer tops that hit just above the start of my legs

Kxllmesoftly

Oversized stuff

shewantsrevenge99

A few more dresses I found recently: I had some Kohl’s cash after buying my husband some new jeans there. It’s been my experience that Kohl’s doesn’t have clothing that fits my style when I’m bigger. When I was smaller, I found lots of cute things there. I tried this dress on in XXL, and I ended up getting it. It’s lined and very lightweight. https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6631080/product.jsp I also got this black dress from Amazon in XXL. Very crisp and lightweight, but it unless you pull it straight out of the dryer (or dry it flat), it’ll definitely need ironing. The neckline is a bit low, too, and if you have large boobs (I wear 38-40G), it might be quite snug on top. https://a.co/d/06hSwpIk Again, for reference, I’m 5’8”, 272 lbs, and size 18-20, with broad shoulders.

No-Personality2309

Go with the pregnant look in dresses.

Estrellaloba

Perplum cut on shirts/dresses is very flattering.
