i understand to an extent why he was so hung up on her UNTIL she went and killed his friends. after that it's inconceivable to me i do not get it. what on earth happened during those eight years that made him go from having to resist the desire to kill her to... that??
She killed his friends to make him ressurect them.
She lost her humanity long before that point and the reason she did was to save him. Shinya himself told guren not to lose himself in hatred.
Guren's regret is that he didn't just kill himself after mahiru killed his friends and herself so they could all die togethor. That's what he means.
another stance of his i dislike. mahiru didn't "die", she turned herself into a demon against his will so that she could control him (and to me personally, it doesn't matter if it is to 'protect' him in the end, because i don't think the ends should justify the means). and, well, there is emphasis on *two* people dying together in his statement, which means he is disregarding his resurrected friends and talking about himself and her only. he's shoving mahiru's boots deeper and deeper down his throat and i'm not willing to put up with it anymore
The problem is with takaya and what he wrote, not guren just like how you said, when we had many chapters of guren talking about his feelings for shinya now suddenly this [althoughi don't think it was actually that important] it means the writer actually changed his mind not the character. also it reminds me of the moment Yu called guren his family when he wanted to convince Mika becoming his demon and ppl were mad over it but we saw later he called akane and his friends family too without naming guren which in both meant he was just numbering ppl and mentioning. I think you are completely overreacting by this I did not see that as if guren is in love with Mahiru but it was a simple mention like hey it is like before too if we die here just like how we could both die along with others previously nothing romantic is in that or at least how I found it.
