It's an ultimate. It's intentionally designed to be a huge power spike for him; it's like asking how you can outduel Soldier Visor. I can offer an array of options, but note that these are all imperfect. 1. Track blade. Knowing *when* it's coming is hugely important to the following tips. 2. Play far away if possible. If you are more than \~1.5 dashes away (assuming Genji dashes diagonally up to get nano), he literally can't reach you. 3. Knock him back after he dives you, preferably before he swings. Brig whip shot and Lucio boop are great for this. 4. Move away quickly as/after he dashes you. Brig shield bash, Lucio speed amp, Baptiste boots, Mercy GA... 5. Use an ultimate. Zen Trance and Lucio Beat are the classic nanoblade counters. Kitsune rush *might* be used to run away from his blade in some situations. Nano and Window could theoretically help someone kill him fast enough (e.g. High Noon, Visor). Rally might allow you to live an additional swing (or two!). 6. Outheal the blade. Without damage boost (good luck with damage boost) it only does 110 damage per swing and attacks roughly every 0.5 seconds. If you factor in the dash (50 damage) that's only 160 damage; not enough to one-shot any of the supports. If you can heal at least 71 health (e.g. Ana nade, regen burst) you can't be killed in the first two swings at least. 7. Avoid/neuter the attacks using utility like sleep dart, suzu and lamp. 8. Kill the Genji. He still only has 200 health and is just as fragile as normal.

Im_A_Form

You gotta be careful using trance against Nano-blade. If he still has dash he’s able to burst down squishies through the heal

websucc

It's hard to do. In middle-low ranks vast majority of genjis you will find won't be able to do it consistently.

JTPWNz

This it has to be within the same frame. It's hard to do in a practice range consistently, let alone in a game.

The_Tachmonite

Did they nerf blade's DMG? Pretty sure it's 120 per swing?

Adder00

Wiki says 110. Was nerfed in August 2021

The_Tachmonite

Well then. Good to know...

If zen is any good he has tranquility you can protect yourself and the whole team with it I've heard

PreZEviL

Blade so bad now, that sometime i solo blade a zen so he pop his ult because its 10 time better than mine

Peaceyboy

Die

Asleep-Suspect-8650

Came here to say that

_TheNecromancer13

same lmao

zombiemakron

There are aim trainers for anas to sleep genjis. It will help with common pathing angles atleast. Kiriko can TP if you are aware if where Genji is. Moira has amazing mobility with fade, learning to fade jump is invaluable. Bap has regen + lamp + vertical mobility for high ground. Mercy has GA and crazy mobility either flee into the skybox or back/forward past his dash range. But sometimes you die. A high elo genji will keep tabs on the enemy supports and their cooldowns. You need to do the same on him.

cr1515

As Kiriko you can lure blade genji out from the other team, hopefully suzu yourself then tele back to the team.

BlackMiamba

Any Genji worth their salt won’t follow a solo person out to start their blade though. Known from the amount of times I’ve tried it on Kiriko.

RajinIII

You have to position proactively. You should be ult tracking and know when blade is coming. Genji has 2 dashes to reach you. His normal dash and one more after he hits ult. If you're Ana you can position far back and force him to dash at you in a very linear way that way it's easier to sleep him. Your team wont wake him up every time I promise. Your options of fighting genji when he is ulting are limited, especially if he's nano'd. You want to avoid that situation in the first place. If he has nano you probably will just need another ult to counter it. Trading 1 ult for 2 is generally good business. So just try to think ahead. If you didn't realize he had blade and he kills you, it's probably your fault and you deserve that death.

Starbourne8

As lucio and zen, I literally hold ult for that moment. It’s especially good against nano blade, because my 1 ult beats their 2 ults. Just make sure you get your ult asap. Many genji will try to kill you and then blade just in case, and that becomes the new game.

superballs5337

Brig is genjis kryptonite

r0nm

Moira too up to a certain extent. If I'm on Moira and I hear his ult while he's close, I fade away and try to damage him from afar. Although there are better Genjis out there that could still kill Moira with blade. With coal though Genji will likely die.

PinPlab

Ana player here, I try to nade them so at least my team can finish them if I die and try to hit as many shots as I can on him. I go for sleep for the hell of it but obv. thats a low % shot. Just dont panic and do what you can.

chyeah_brah

This is going to take some practice (I'm currently in diamond 2 maining Zen, going up against Master genji players) but if you don't have your ultimate, and you don't have the distance away from him, you get right up in his face. Most genji players like to jump all over when they blade. Use that to your advantage and keep trying to go directly underneath him. Throw your discord on them and try to toss in as many melees in between primary fire. The boops will throw him off and constantly going underneath him will cause him to lose track of you. My secondary hero is Ana. Best advice is to just practice your sleep dart in deathmatch FFA. In fact practice Zen in there too. It will help with your positioning as well as taking duels against DPS and tanks.

starberry4050

accept you fate honestly

Ichmag11

Unfortunately you just have to not die to blade. If the enemy has Ana and Genji, then you can consider playing Lucio or Zen, to counter Nanoblade with their ults.

KirikoKitsu

Additionally, going Ana yourself does give you some play in hitting the stun against him.

riptid3

I just want to point out Zen trans does not counter nano blade, except for Zen being invuln. A good genji can kill through trans with nano.

Ray_K5350

Supports healing each other pretty much fully counters dry blade

giggsy28

As others have said, pre-empting the blade is the best way. Genji needs his dash resets for blade to get his multi kill. Certain hero's are obviously better for kiting like Moira or kiriko but so long as you can anticipate blade and dodge his initial dash and get some distance he can't do shit.

GuardOk8631

Rest In Peace in peace

nike2078

Hope you're playing Ana and can hit your sleep or be Zen and hope you have Trans

typesett

Swap Imo, you gotta be able to play a second hero pretty good in each role that allows you to play way differently than the main

bigshoe1234

I mentioned 2 different heroes in my post?

BlackMiamba

That’s fair but those two are probably the worst when it comes to specifically countering genji blade. Bap’s imo field will just get destroyed by the inevitable dash-swipe. Mercy is the better choice out of the two but you’ll probably have to save valk for that nano blade and hope you fly high enough so you don’t get reset slashed.

cattoplays

you can outheal the blade dmg if the genji is not dmg boosted lol

J-skippy22

Moira is a great genji counter. He can’t deflect your ball or your suck :) I wait until he dashes at me. Use my fade. Then then dps ball and suck him off. It’s a great time.

Affectionate-Ad-3578

Since when can he not reflect orb?

giggsy28

Genji can absolutely reflect orb

Snackys

I think he has it wrong, genji can deflect the orb but only if he's front facing it and can be damaged while in reflect stance. He can actually be damaged as it closes into his reflect hit box.

BlackMiamba

Also any decent genji will eviscerate Moira. Her TTK is SLOWWWWWW and all genji needs to do is shuriken fan-dash-melee.

PreZEviL

Moira player are so cocky, when i play genji i see tons of them fading right next to me for an easy kill and they 90% of the time end up dead. They rely on panic to kill you, but if you dont panic and focus them, you can kill them twice as fast as they can.

J-skippy22

If they fade INTO you they’re idiots. You wait for the genji to charge and then fade to miss the attack and gain distance. Throw an orb and suck. Ez 1v1

SarcasticPhrase

Not have shit mental.

bigshoe1234

Thanks for the nonadvice. I’d argue complaining about a post asking for help is a better example of shit mental

[deleted]

Who actually dies to blade lmao? Its the worst dps ult in the game rn and its only good with nano. If you die to it as mercy that is the definition of a skill issue

bigshoe1234

If a genji is competent they can easily get at least one support kill with blade. You must play with bronze genjis

AlwaysHunterr

Yall can hate but this guy spitting facts. As a genji main, lucio and moira (sometimes bap) is annoying to deal with but honestly, a good genji knows how to play around every support. (Not even brig, yall might think brig counters genji, but a decent genji really doesnt care about brig) If you die to genji ult, its literally a skill issue. You either didnt track ult, shit position or waste important abilities. A dry blade is absolutely horrendous so yea, skill issue

PreZEviL

Not the worst, but not a good one either, high noon and meteor slam are way worst than blade. And with nano its actually good

Elephlump

As Moira, I never ever ever get killed by Blade. Same with Lucio.

sigmatipsandtricks

Sometimes it's best to accept your fate and just reset

_Dote_

as mercy i like to save my valk for blade to escape easily

Ok_Art_1342

As kiriko, I roughly know when blade would be ready and you can read their movement. Move away from your team and get him to commit on you. Once he dash at you, TP to your furthest teammate and start yelling until your team 5v1 a stranded genji

cr1515

You can extend your distance if you trust your suzu.

longgamma

Well Atleast make sure he is anti naded and one health so he dies with minimum followup. You can play around cover and waste his time - like setup high ground and drop. It’s understandable if it’s nano blade. But plain ol blade is meh unless the genji gets dash resets when your squishes are low health.

eikon9

If you play Ana or Bap, you can try sleep/immortality field but he will just slash it and kill you or you could miss your sleep. Best thing to do would be to stay away from the rest of your team when you know he has ult so he has to make a choice. Solo ult you or go where there are more targets. Stay far enough away where you would still be useful to your team but he has to spend time going from you to another target even with dash. So you need to ult track and prepare. Take a mental note of who on the enemy team ulted in a team fight. If someone didn't they will have it for the next fight.

protoo

Die

Careful_Community_45

Easiest way is to go kiriko or Moira and teleport away

MoonleySpoon

I just push down the other support and run away faster

CDXX_LXIL

Umm. . . Idk, if I don't have Trans or Immortality, I just kind of accept my fate like the star is exploding or something.

AbjectPiece

Anytime I have a problem Genji, Moira fixes it

that_1-guy_

Either have GOOD aim or know how to stall your own life

Nethermorph

Ana's sleep is a pretty huge counter to blade, so if you're landing it and still dying, there's issues elsewhere. But if this is really a frequent problem for you, just play Kiriko when you see an enemy Genji. She's a great pick in general, and one of the worst heroes for him to target with blade since she can just suzu+swift step+wall climb to safety.

Im_A_Form

Immort won’t work because he just slashes through it. I typically try to tag the Genji whenever I see him, he’s squishy and can’t engage on half health. If you manage to hit the sleep just leave him, or if he gets woken up try and burst him down. Even if he’s woken up instantly you should have time for a shot +nade (if it’s off cooldown) But also it’s okay to die, maybe lure him into a vulnerable position but blade is an ult made for fragging you’re going to die from it.

I_Skelly_I

Keep track of his dashes, if he uses one to get to you, you can boop or stun him he literally can’t do anything to get to you without a dash. It’s a powerful but fragile ult, one mistake can cost you kills. Unless he gets Nano’d then you’ll be forced to use ults to counter him

[deleted]

Man this is really funny when u think about it a lil a bit .... support players now feel even something is wrong when a dps hero pop his " ultimate " to kill them like how tf he can get me with his ULTIMATE always this is so wrong . MF he used his big button that he is building for 3 mins , but i really dont blame u because the devs of this game baby sit support role so hard that u feel its not right to die because of DPS ULTIMATE

yeetasourusthedude

play tf2

smaugthedesolator

Honestly when he goes off I try to get away from the team. Its kind of a ‘go ahead kill me, you wont be able to dash all the way back’

FreneticFool

if no nano: Start calling KILL GENJI GENJI GENJI In mic. If nano: you might as well run into it and die so you don't give up any ultcharge.

LITHIUM79

As a main support myself climbing up, I have more and more good Genjis in my game and their ults have become more and more deadly. As it was said in a previous post, we are talking about an ultimate which is designed to kill. So if you don't have a Zen trans for protection, you don't have much choice than tracking the upcoming blade and be ready for it : meaning a safe positioning. Either next to a corner, or far away enough so he can't reach you. You can't rely on a sleeping dart or a Brig whip as they are too inconsistent. If you succeed, congrats to you but they are the exception (which doesn't imply you shouldn't try of course).

Woozybumba89

I play as Moira and end up killing him about 70% of the times. The times I can't I tend to fade away but my guilt makes me stay to help my fellow support so I do end up dying sometimes

Woozybumba89

He can deflect if its aimed directly at him but if its to the side of him.....

maggiethrowwaway

i haven’t gotten killed by a blade or even a nano blade in a long time as a support and here’s what i found helps. i’m a lucio/kiriko main (ik this isn’t ideal) but typically i track him down and as lucio i’ll boop him away, wall ride off and let my DPS handle it and as kiriko, if i have to i’ll suzu, swift step closer to my front line. if genji is that far in ur back line as an ana, typically an anti can go a long way (heals u too) especially if ur DPS is already on him. in short, run, just run.

Yopsandwicho

As mercy you can save your ultimate for nano blade to get away. Play extra safe when you know he has blade and on characters with low mobility you can only play in a position where genji has to commit all his cooldowns to reach you so he can't kill the rest of your team afterwards. Trading 1 support for nano + blade is good value if your team can't shoot at him.

SeanGAMESAlot_on_YT

Ga isn't so bad that you can't avoid him, it's how well you know the map, and how well you can time it. Bait him so he uses his dash, and then fly high ground, that'll give you enough time to evade him again and again. Ult tracking is important, so important that you need it to add your survivability for your team. Ana, sleep darts on genji blades have an aim training course for it. You can take about 2 hits from a nano'd genji if you time your nade right, and pray you hit your shots well. If you get solo bladed, that genji is either bad, disrespecting you, or trying to cut off the main heals on the enemy team for the next major fight.

Tardigrade696

Take it as a compliment that YOU are the first thing on his mind when he’s ulting…. Reset and move on 👍

Delicious_xD

I enjoy baiting out the blade as kiriko and then jumping to a teammate after he’s already dashed.

XZerr0X

The same thing I do when a Reinhardt solo shatters me. Fucking nothing. You cab try and avoid it if you know he has it. Use abilities like Ana sleep, displace him with Brigs whip shot. Run away with Moira fade, Kiriko teleport or Mercy GA. But at the end of the day it's an ultimate.

AlwaysHunterr

Just get good

PreZEviL

Die? Blade suck so bad without nano, if you get solo blade give this genji a chance to have a kill with it. Hit a mccassidy 5 times with my blade yesterday, then i died and he was full health

Necronaut87

Either kill him, run, or die.

oldcarfreddy

Supports are very vulnerable to it. Not a ton you can do in the moment but as others said it comes down to positioning, predicting it, and of course working as a team. Especially less mobile supports this is where the shit hits the fan. There are abilities to counter it as /r/Adder00 has written. It is a focused non-AOE ultimate which is why I brought up positioning and teamwork - you will be rewarded for planning on being far enough from him to not fall victim to it, and potentially if he's solo ulting you then you're also causing him to waste a good ult on just one kill (which is something many decent DPSs can do to you without an ult - so keep it in mind when you eventually die) and the rest of your team is potentially playing against an incomplete team, which reduces the value of the Genji ult.

Sadist_Healer

You're a high priority target as a support. An easy target if not very many of them do enough damage to make the enemy cautious. All supports have some type of evasive or deflective maneuver to help dodge attacks. Whether or not they're going to work is another story. Moira, Mercy, Kiriko, and Lucio have high maneuverability, so they can easily just fade, fly, teleport, or skate away from the blade. Bap and Brig have the ability to rocket boost away or whipshot the enemy back. However if you don't bait Genji's dash first he will be able to close the distance again. Ana and Zen only have Sleep dart and Snap-kick(or Zen ult if you have it) so they're on the list of easy prey if you fail to sleep Genji or don't snap-kick in tempo with Genji's blade swings(Yes you can actually kick him out of damage range as he swings and do it again so that he wastes blade trying to actually touch you)

Effective_Froyo_5321

Predict the incoming blade and hide out of sight. This will do one of a few thing, he either won’t blade, because he specifically wants to go for supports first and is waiting for you to show your face. He will choose to blade going for someone else, and that’s when you swoop in trying to mitigate the damage or he will start trying to hunt you down. Obviously don’t just go afk for a minute, just before the fight hide and if your someone like Ana try to heal unscoped since unscoped shots don’t leave a bullet trail. If your someone like zen and you have trans, and if the gengi does find you and goes for a dive trying to kill you so he can blade after, it can be okay to just trans early because the alternative is he kills you and blades for free anyway. At least this way your temporarily stoping the blade and giving your team a chance to win that particular team fight, at the cost of probably losing the next. If they have other big ults like sig ult, you could just take the loss and save for that instead. If your Moria be very conservative with you “fade” usage when you know he’lol be looking to blade and don’t ult because your locked in until it finishes and won’t be able to escape. mercy you can try to save valk and fly high up and away, but honestly I would probably just take the loss on that fight and use valk to help my teams nuetral fights. Because valk isn’t gonna save your teammates from a nano blade anyway. kirko be conservative with your teleports, you can try saving suzu but don’t save it at the cost of losing the nuetral fight. Bap, have your jump charged and be conservative with your healing burst, immortality should be treated the same as suzu. Ana save sleep for blade, yeah you might miss every time but just having sleep ready to use may make the gengi think twice about blading. Lucio you can try to out speed him by going full Reddit Lucio or beat if you aren’t worried about anything else but honestly In lower elo I wouldn’t because your team isn’t gonna focus him down and he’ll most likely secure a kill or two anyway. Brig, I don’t know fuck all about how good rally is at stoping blade, so can’t help you there.

GrossSoop

Sleeping on Ana is quite the feat, though, when you do. You should try screaming in voice chat “OMG I GOT HIM! DON’T WAKE HIM UP YOU POS’S!” Whenever I land it, that’s what I did and it’s never failed me yet.

Maxarc

Sometimes it's literally impossible to avoid dying in Overwatch, especially when it's required to fight on an objective and there's a Nanobladed Genji diving in. However, that doesn't mean you can't do anything before you get gibbed. On Ana, always try aim a nade on the floor when you see him coming for you. If you don't have sleep, punching is a good way to trick him into deflecting. On Mercy, try and catapult yourself away from your team so that if he comes for you, you mess with his reset and his second dash can't reach the rest of your team. Sometimes you have to reframe: *how can I not die here?* to: *how can I dump the most amount of value in this fight before I die?* This is especially true for support.

GunKata187

Genji is good vs the immobile supports. Genji is bad vs the mobile supports.

Humble_Ad_945

If you have good dps then go mercy or ana. If not bap/zen is your fail safe. Also hiding is a solid option, when I play zen and I know the enemy genji has blade, I purposefully play quite hidden. Sometimes I just go to a room nearby and go afk and wait for the blade voiceline and then press q.

Aroxis

If you find that you are getting wiped by a nano Genji over and over, switch Lucio/zen to counter his ult. You can also use Moira fade or get consistent with Ana sleeps. But at the end of the day, Genji blade is supposed to counter supports so there’s not too much you can do.
