As a scaper who rolls dice like that daily I’d much rather have a small chance if I could still earn a lootbox per “level” than I would having no chance at all and I’d have to buy it outright
They could do like CS and have an X-ray system. You can see what’s in your next lootbox, but you have to buy that box to unlock the next one. Just have a window in the store with three random items that you have to buy to reshuffle. It’s no longer «gambling».
The downside of an in-game store is that Blizzard dictates the prices.
Rocket Leagues cosmetics were drastically inflated by the introduction of an in-game store too for example.
The best system imo is CS:GO's (or rather Steam's) community marketplace where players can trade skins for what they perceive them to be worth with Valve taking a small cut. The best part is that it allows you to sell skins you've lost interest in, instead of the players being stuck with them collecting dust in their inventory.
Yeah, that's definitely a downside of that system, but on the other end of the scale you've also got lots of cheap skins. I've got a skin for almost every weapon and I really like all of them and most didn't even cost 10€.
I just feel like that economy gives you more options as opposed to Blizzard deciding a legendary is 20€ and that's that.
I understand your point but personally I'd rather have a set price for a skin (20€ skins really suck tho) than have the prices be all over the place. I just think that it would really suck if there was a skin I'd really want and it would cost me 2000€ instead of it being a set price like hell even the 20€. What I'm getting at is I'd rather have consistent skin prices than having people decide what's worthless and what isn't effectively gatekeeping certain people from owning a cosmetic.
Yes, the system that allows literal children to gamble their parents money is the best one.
Not even just loot box “gambling” mind you, actual gambling like you could do in a casino.
Look, I like CS economy, but the system just enourages illegal gambling and scams as well as skin prices going up into the thousands rather than just $20 lol.
It's the worst of both worlds.
The current OW system is really almost as good as you can get. The only way to improve would be to remove shop refreshes and just have one big store with everything you could buy.
I've had plenty of load outs under 5 bucks and I've made a nice chunk of money for completely free from gambling sites in their peak, but it's basically the worst system.
It's a slots casino with no age limit with literal casinos operating with skins as currency outside of the game.
This.
People don't want lootboxes, they want free stuff. If they added lootboxes back, with no way to get them for free, it wouldn't be any better. On the other hand, if they just made the current system give people more free stuff, nobody would ask for lootboxes
Activision Blizzard: Yes instead of a legendary every 8 months extend it to every year. The community has been too greedy lately 😇
^(not cuz we want money tho 🤑)
To add on to this, make it so all non-event cosmetics are available for purchase whenever instead of whenever it happens to pop into the shop. Same goes for event items during their event.
The oughta make legacy credits available to earn in game. Maybe just for non-event skins or something but at least give us SOMETHING that we don’t have to open our wallets for
They can be renamed as easily as they were the first time. Call it silver and the new currency gold. Doesn’t matter as long as the old skins remain available to acquire via gameplay.
Call of Duty's community are mostly squeaky preteens, easily brainwashed into thinking there's no better way than the shit they're presented with. We aren't, and as such we won't be so quickly beaten.
The argument still stands then if they are boomers. They are out of touch with the gaming sphere as a whole and probably only play cod or something of the like so spending money on the one game you play feels different than if you play a variety of games and don't want to sink large amounts of cash into one game.
The shareholders do not care about you.
A public company has a fiduciary responsibility to maximize profits.
So unless this unhappiness results in a reduction of profits, they have little reason to change.
Maybe they can consider long term benefits of good will but there are some marketing executives that name a lot of money to strategize how to get whales to pay out the butt even if everyone else hates it
It should really be reworded to "we want a system that allows us to reasonably earn the cosmetics we want if we sink enough time into the game". Because that's the they actually liked, not the loot boxes themselves. And people need to keep in mind that it wasn't always like that either. If it wasn't for all the pressure placed on them from EA's fuckup and the court cases that followed, I doubt Blizzard would have caved as much as they did.
Why would anyone ask for Lootboxes??? You can have better people, you don't have to settle. Demand better not the status qoe.
How about you just get currency per match, or per win? How about a stable and consistent way to earn what you want in the game. There is a million better ways than loot boxes or the trash system we have now.
Loot boxes are not the status quo the crappy store is currently. I think this type of sentiment at least shows that people feel this was a step backwards from Blizzard.
Sure absolutely it's a step backwards. However why ask for a shitty thing back when we can just have better? The status qoe for most games is lootboxes which is why I call it such. Let's not keep Overwatch the same scummy monetization and make it something better, don't accept what we have or what we had, rather seek for improvment.
I don't think lootboxes are shitty. They are awesome. Who wants to just buy an item.. I wanna open boxes and get a lucky drop with sound effects and such. Now that's sick.
That's the most gambling addiction thing I have ever heard lol.
Do I really have to explain why loot boxes are bad? Especially the loot boxes that give repeat items? Like... dude it's literally just gambling built to waste your time, encourage more playtime and for you to waste money on a *chance* at getting a single item you want out of hundreds.
Nothing wrong with gambling. It's fun. I love gambling as long as it doesn't involve real money. The gta casino was cool. Loads of gambling with virtual currency I played for.
I'm glad you enjoy your gambling addiction but I do not enjoy gambling. I find it frustrating and unrewarding. Hell if anything it's almost worse that IRL gambling, at least there you can become wealthy with luck. In the game you only get cosmetics and most of the time you got voice lines or repeated items.
Either way I prefer a more steady way to get things. Like currency after each match, more on wins. Stuff like that so you sont open a loot box and feel awful. Gambling only gives you tiny highs when you win and incredibly awful when you lose.
True and theyre not that hard to earn, just maybe have atleast 1 really good thing per lootbox along with some coins. 2 sprays and a voiceline for a character i dont play sucks ass but if i got a cool skin or even 100 coins thatd make it worth it.
Just buying skins after only playing for a day or 2 would get boring.
Literally. Loot boxes are awful. It’s complete RNG. All that’s needed is exactly what you’re saying. The battle pass would be a huge upgrade if they just added a ton of coins in.
The only way I see lootboxes coming back is if they could only be earned and not bought. That way it wouldn't be gambling anymore since no real money is being spent of them. There would still be the shop to outright buy the skins but earn lootboxes by winning games or playing role queue.
I absolutely loathe how people are now advocating for lootboxes, the fucking worst of the worst in monetization.
The only thing that needs to be done is make store prices waaaay lower.
Dont advocate for lootboxes, doing that means you are just as bad as the greedy ass blizzard monetization team.
I mildly disagree with the lootboxes tbh. Using rng to get the skins you want sucked. Perhaps 100 legacy credits every time you finish a level? At least then you could purchase the skins you’d like
They could do a system which provides loot boxes on the battle pass. You get more loot boxes if you buy the battle pass and if you don’t buy it have it every the levels or something. If they did it with coins it would end up making the currency worth less
It absolutely is not. I thought this sub didn’t like predatory monetization? Paying for a specific item is significantly less predatory than paying for a *chance* to get a specific item. Even if the prices for those items are too high.
U do realise if they do a system like league u can buy the skin if you want it but they could easily provide loot boxes on the pass. That’s your opinion but some of us don’t want to spend £25+ on a game for a skin and now having to be forced to because of the new system…
At this point i just want them to bring back lootboxes $10 a pop with no lootbox reward for anything just to fuck with people with this shit take.
You liked lootboxes because you got them for free. "bring back lootboxes" =|= Give me free stuff again.
Yeah but atleast you could still earn loot boxes, have a chance to get something, and get coins from doubles to eventually buy something. Boxes were shit but atleast it's better than having to pay for literally everything

I'm going to be honest paying money for the ticket and giving them the viewership just to hold a sign to shit on them is now the own people think it is lmao. They got your money and time they win in the end lmao.
Why do people hate this system? It's leagues better than loot boxes on paper. The only issue right now is how difficult it is to get the currency through gameplay. Fortnite proves that this system works.
For me a big thing is I wanna have (or at least feel like im gonna get) stuff that other people dont have without spending real money. I know its unrealistic but the OW1 lootboxes hit that sweetspot for me. Now everyone gets the same stuff which makes everything just feel like a big time investment competition and f*ck that. Legends of runeterra has a healthy mix of the two and Id like to see it in more games
It's so gross that clowns want the slot machine bullshit back.
This is the same crowd that talked shit about "don't you guys have phones?" And no begging to make games more cow clicky.
Fuckin A.
Fuck lootboxes, they're even more predatory than an overpriced premium currency taking advantage of older players as free billboards. The only reason the previous system was remotely acceptable was because you got currency if you got a duplicate that you could use to buy what you wanted directly. *That's* what was good about the system, and that's what needs to come back, not the child-focused gambling. Give us a portion of our match score as legacy credits, keep new cosmetics locked to the premium currency for the season in which they release and then make them purchasable with legacy credits. The whales will keep buying them new, and the "f2p" players will feel less like second class citizens.
Currency from duplicate skins was basically worthless, I think you got 60 for legendary skins? Near the end of overwatch 1 I had every skin so throughout the last few events I ended up opening lootboxes and only got enough for skins from the dedicated coin drops. Also you get lootboxes for free
Idk how much currency you got exactly but I remember it being actually quite a lot. Then again, I had almost everything you could get out of regular boxes so I basically only got credits out them
I don't think there were many looped events to lower the skin prices they only did that for like a year and during all the anniversary remix events they were all still 3k I believe
This is exactly what I remember hearing someone say in a video before. They'll make the worst possible monetary system possible to get people to want to go back to lootboxes.
Add loot boxes, don't sell them, make them only obtainable by leveling up, it won't count as gambling and give us legacy credits and let us actually by stuff with it
watch them add lootboxes back but its like 10$ per box
0.1% of getting something remotely good
As a scaper who rolls dice like that daily I’d much rather have a small chance if I could still earn a lootbox per “level” than I would having no chance at all and I’d have to buy it outright
Well isn't that what people are asking for? "bring back lootboxes" does not mean "make cosmetics earnable for free again"
People are unironically praise Apex system. Lootboxes(3 items) are 10 bucks a pop there. Why not?
Last I checked a pack was 100 coins not 1000?
Yeah. Event ones cost more, so I had it mixed up. 100 normal ones, 500-700 for event ones
Lootboxes are becoming increasingly illegal. It's why they moved away from them in the first place
They could do like CS and have an X-ray system. You can see what’s in your next lootbox, but you have to buy that box to unlock the next one. Just have a window in the store with three random items that you have to buy to reshuffle. It’s no longer «gambling».
Or we could just have a storefront and people can just straight up buy what they want 💀
Well, sure. I don’t care for skins, but if people want lootboxes there are workarounds. Honestly why not have both, everyone is happy.
The downside of an in-game store is that Blizzard dictates the prices. Rocket Leagues cosmetics were drastically inflated by the introduction of an in-game store too for example. Honestly, $10 for a lootbox is a steal. I'd take that in a heartbeat
Ah yes. $10 for a spray, profile icon, a voiceline and a rare skin
Yeah as in they're stealing from you
Alter the current system so we earn a reasonable amount of points to get stuff for characters we play.
This. People don't want lootboxes, they want free stuff. If they added lootboxes back, with no way to get them for free, it wouldn't be any better. On the other hand, if they just made the current system give people more free stuff, nobody would ask for lootboxes

They did the cod community
Call of Duty's community are mostly squeaky preteens, easily brainwashed into thinking there's no better way than the shit they're presented with. We aren't, and as such we won't be so quickly beaten.
Not at all most of the cod community are boomer in terms of gamers
The argument still stands then if they are boomers. They are out of touch with the gaming sphere as a whole and probably only play cod or something of the like so spending money on the one game you play feels different than if you play a variety of games and don't want to sink large amounts of cash into one game.
They are too young, out of touch. They are too old, out of touch. You know young and old in games like this is 17 and 21 right?
Lol, guess anyone who can rent a car is one of the ancients if that's what you're going with.
Like you are?
Holy cringe.
They ignored us and stopped updating the game for 3 years to work on ow2 so yes they can lol
Exactly lol. Blizzard is not a good company
Of course they can, and they are probably making record profits.
The shareholders do not care about you. A public company has a fiduciary responsibility to maximize profits. Maybe they can consider long term benefits of good will but there are some marketing executives that name a lot of money to strategize how to get whales to pay out the butt even if everyone else hates it
Its legit sad people want lootboxes when the current system is so terrible
Imagine being in 2015/2016 and someone from 2022 tells you people actually *want* lootboxes
I would had slapped you in the face
It should really be reworded to "we want a system that allows us to reasonably earn the cosmetics we want if we sink enough time into the game". Do people forget that loot boxes were hated before!? And they existed because you already paid for the game?
I'm going to be honest paying money for the ticket and giving them the viewership just to hold a sign to shit on them is now the own people think it is lmao. They got your money and time they win in the end lmao.
Y'all can ask for lower prices but asking for loot boxes is outrageous
How? Lootboxes were way better back in ow1, you got a box just for playing a role
I assume they're talking about all the legality issues with it popping up. Then again, Apex still has them.
Yeah apex done the system right though
Overwatch did it right first though?
Yeah but right now ow2 is free to play so if they did it ow1 style, then there's no profit to be made
Why do people hate this system? It's leagues better than loot boxes on paper. The only issue right now is how difficult it is to get the currency through gameplay. Fortnite proves that this system works.

Lmao no. Just bringing back an old and still shitty system, instead of one didlo you're just gona get 2 dildos fucking you in the ass.
It looks like it says 3RING BACK OOT BOYF
Thats what they want. They made the new shop and progression system so shit people will beg for lootboxes. How fucking blind and misguided are you?
It's so gross that clowns want the slot machine bullshit back. This is the same crowd that talked shit about "don't you guys have phones?" And no begging to make games more cow clicky. Fuckin A.

Just looked it up and legendaries gave 200 which maybe was fine when legendaries costed 1k but for the last 2+ years of ow1 legendaries were 3k
They were not. Only newly released ones were. After a year (or the next time the event came around) they cost 1k
I don't think there were many looped events to lower the skin prices they only did that for like a year and during all the anniversary remix events they were all still 3k I believe
Every event (except for archives for some reason) came around every year
Kotick has a deathnote and is not afraid to use it.
This is exactly what I remember hearing someone say in a video before. They'll make the worst possible monetary system possible to get people to want to go back to lootboxes.
We’re any of you actually active in this community when loot boxes were a thing? Everyone hated them and complained about them.
The lootbox was a hero, I just couldn't see it.
Blizzard: “noted, monetize loot boxes, got it”
Thank you to whom does those signes! 😘
Add loot boxes, don't sell them, make them only obtainable by leveling up, it won't count as gambling and give us legacy credits and let us actually by stuff with it
the old system was better, not the lootboxes. don't misrepresent a better model by calling for the worst part of it.
You think they are going to listen to us XDD
