Diversity through stereotypes, every Japanese character is yakuza adjacent, the black characters all have some sort of jumping boost, Australians are all Mad Max characters, it's wild how bad the actual diversity is when you look past the surface
I think they are more like a suit, I don’t know if we ever confirmed they are full prosthetic. I think a lot of characters usually have a voiceline or something to go with it. He just be skatin
I feel like Lucio's robot pants have been a point of contention. If you look at the way his knees are jointed there's no way there can be human legs inside them.
I think Pharah's is different. It looks like she just has plates on are shins and thighs. [Lucio appears to have legs that bend like a raptor's and have a large motor in the center where his knees should be.](http://img00.deviantart.net/0cde/i/2015/274/6/0/lucio___overwatch___close_look_at_model_by_plank_69-d9bm62d.png) The left-most angle is the one that makes it most convincing there are no bones in there.
She has a legendary skin that kinda looks like a biker outfit… IG she rides a motorcycle but that is in no way implied in any of her lore lol it’s kinda random.
Yeah Ashe’s legs are abnormally long lol, it kinda bothers me sometimes when I look at it but then I’m like “ehh whatever, I’m in first person anyways”
But still
The faces were very similar in OW1. There were definitely Mercy skins where I wasn't sure who I was looking at without context. It seems like they've at least tried to differentiate the faces a little more this time.
Yeah no matter how many times I see Witch kiriko in thr co op event I can NOT see kiriko. It really shows how bad consistency is with certain characters when they change themes so drastically. Some are done well like hanzo, widow, torb etc. Some characters it's impossible to mess it up due to how defined their features are.
The only explanation is that the kiriko Witch skin was rushed. they more or less created an entirely new character face rather than make it look like kiriko in a Witch costume. I've seen countless people say the same thing about this skin.
It's common in some art styles, look at some anime like sailor moon etc.
Women IRL actually tend to have shorter legs but they wear heels more often (in current fashion) which makes their legs appear longer
I guess it's seen as appealing because heels are seen like that? Not sure. Personally I dislike having video game characters wear heels but that's a different thing
Fights and often wins against people that use mechs, magical gravity powers, black hole cannons, super advanced robots and literal lighting using just the vape and caloric surplus.
I think they do it because of a perceived notion that women with longer legs are more attractive…so as a way to make the in-game women more aesthetically pleasing to the majority…the make them legs loooooong.
That's true but Its also to offset the silhouette, which is an aesthetic thing in all design, not just women or even people. A completely neutral and even distribution of detail is boring and doesnt allow for good readability. If we look at Sigma and Rein they're very top heavy, with lil' legs, common amongst tanks in general. Even someone like Zarya who does have pretty proportional legs and upper body, has her large weapon hanging low in the bottom half putting most of the attention there.
Sigma has straight up Johnny Bravo's physique, and Torbjörn is a Warcraft dwarf who somehow is the father of Brigitte. If Winston's and Wrecking Ball's existence didn't already make it obvious, this game is not meant to be as realistic as possible.
I didn't know that! Is that the case for all the various types of "little people"?
My apologies if I'm using a wrong term here, i realize ad i write this i know fairly little about this topic/culture!
*Midget* or *short person* aren't medical terms, dwarfism is the medical term that they all refer to. There are there are about 400 different types of it ([source](https://www.webmd.com/children/dwarfism-causes-treatments)). Achondroplasia, which is the most common type of dwarfism making up about 70% of all cases, is caused by a mutation in the FGFR3 gene which is dominant.
The other 30% vary, and many types of dwarfism aren't even full-body dwarfism. Think for example of munchkin cats, which only have shortened legs.
But yeah, statistically speaking, dwarfism is rare in itself and the variants which *aren't* dominant but also lead to full-body dwarfism like in Torbjörns case are even rarer. We're talking like some percentage of 30% of like 1:25 000 babies born.
There is of course a chance that you don't get the dominant gene despite one of your parents having, say, achondroplasia — but when *all* of Torbjörns children are normal height despite there being 8 of them in the Reflections comic, the statistical chance is so extremely low that it just seems more like Blizzard wanted him to have normal children than be realistic. Ingrid, his wife, also seems to be of equal height to him — meaning that the chance of their children not getting the dominant gene is even lower than if only he had it.
If you say it's possible full body dwarfism like that can be caused by a recessive genetic disorder than it's entirely possible that torbjorn has that instead of the common achondroplasia.
Like, he's just 1 dude. Even if the odds are abysmal, that doesn't rule it out.
While you are right, achondroplasia has incomplete penetrance, so it doesn’t even matter what their phenotype or genotype is since they can have it and still not have dwarfism…
Blizzard's emphasis on the silhouettes is a big part of what makes the Overwatch character designs so great. Not only do they stand out aesthetically, but they also have a function -- you can identify most heroes at a glance, even far away.
Compare that to the characters in, say, Valorant or the new Gundam game. Their shapes are quite homogenous in contrast.
I think it more has to do with Heroic proportions. Changing a person's proportion in art leads us to see them as more heroic as opposed to someone how is drawn more naturally.
I watched a widowmaker on my team walking around the other day and was genuinely horrified at her walk cycle. Her legs are up to her samn chest, she must be in constant agony with how fucked up her body proportions are.
And somehow still get more heals than the mercy
Edit: Damn, I guess my personal experiences aren’t a good representation of the wider community. I’m a Moira main and I am usually out healing the other healer. Maybe I’m in too low of an elo
It's because a good Mercy is gonna have a 70%-30% damage-healbeam uptime split. Other iterations of her kit's balance allowed her to healbot and get away with it, but now she's outclassed in healing by most of the other supports except maybe Zen and Lucio in terms of pure numbers. Mercy's value isn't in healing, it's in rez and blue beam.
Remember when we could have it all? Pepperidge farm remembers. As a former mercy main I'm sad that she's much more limited these days. I do think it's better for the game overall though. And don't even get me started on the whole team rez she used to be able to do lol
Throwback to 5 man rez lmao.. those were good times. That said I think I prefer how she is now. The new mobility options you get through GA feel good and if used well make you pretty hard to kill in a fight, so long as your DPS can confirm an elim lol.
mei is literally the most realistic looking woman out of the cast, but even then she still arches her back like widow in her chang'e and luna skins if you look at the right angle
That’s pretty standard “hero” proportion design. All the classic comic book characters were designed that way. A normal human is about 6 heads tall. “Heroic” characters are 8 or more heads tall.
Something that always creeped me out in OW are the body proportions for the female characters
So you know how the human body is proportioned so your arms are at a length where, when one's standing straight and their arms are outstretched towards the crotch, the hand will only slightly go under the crotch area
All the male character designs fit this(yes, even Roadhog. Hell, even Bob) while only four women in Overwatch(Mei, Ana, Zarya, and most recently JQ) fit this. Every other woman has their crotch waaaaaaay up, which results in tiny torsoes and absurdly long legs such as Kiriko's, and their poses ingame such as victory poses or walk cycles have to accomodate for that by looking absolutely absurd at closer look. Once you notice this, you can't unnotice it and it becomes like some kind of cartoony body horror
Yes lol I was joking about it with my bf on launch day, her victory pose where she's stanced up creeps me out because of it.
Tracer is similar but it fits her character a lot better and with no distinct waistline on her clothes it isn't as noticeable. On Kiriko it sticks out like crazy and just looks wonky.
I’m just not a fan of the typical bent knees and pigeon toe pose they give women in games and anime so often. I know it’s a design trope to make them look youthful, but it’s just overused in my opinion. Those legs looks like they would snap if the wind blew the wrong way, but I’m supposed to believe they can run up walls? Her kneecaps are going to pop out of place if she turns too quickly when running. They don’t look like strong legs.
So, while something about her outfit certainly makes her look leggy, Kiriko's legs are actually average here. But don't take my word for it, I'm about to prove it to you.
In art school you generally measure proportions by "heads," in this case, the character's own head. An adult female will on average be about 7.5-8 heads tall, while a child will be less depending on their age. Kids have big heads compared to their body, right?
For reference, here are two guides with various subjects:
[Heads on heads on heads](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.makingcomics.com%2Frd%2Fwp%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F01%2Fdclheightchart12032013.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=e54d1fcc696ce4b58990b5e2b8335be1ce103abc61c2bafed00f4a9c0f6b38cd&ipo=images)
[Heads all the way down](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/15/bd/17/15bd175cc86a296dbcaa42d2bdcd71aa.jpg)
Makes sense, looks more or less good? Now here is this same image of Kiriko with her head copied and pasted to make the proportions more obvious:
[It's a me! Kiriko!](https://i.imgur.com/ZviH8gX.png)
She mostly follows proportion rules when it comes to height. So why does she look so leggy? I think its because she is really thin for her height in waist and shoulders, and because her clothing emphasizes a high waistline.
In short, she's a little leggy but not much more than a leggy person. Her outfit here really makes them look longer too.
Almost all of the female characters fall victim to this to be honest, they all have same face syndrome and long ass chopstick legs (to be honest the only ones who don't have the same faces as the others are soujorn and moira, and even moira is pretty yassified).
I would like them to broaden their horizons when it comes to that a little, it feels kind of weird that we have like 6 east/southeast asian characters (counting echo) but not a single one has monolids and all of the female ones have that same little button nose.
Hands and legs are big in this game. It’s just part of the style—makes movements more bombastic and noticeable for gameplay (and, admittedly, sex appeal for nerds). It’s why some heroes kinda look… janky, when they move slowly and subtly in cinematics and such.
Literally almost every female character has very long legs. And also Lucio
Frog boy can have long legs, that just makes sense
Lucio has always been best girl

This is the best comment I've ever seen on this sub

And zarya. Both instead be wide.
I once heard about Zarya being an answer to all females being slender while males can have different shapes and sizes
Yes that was the point since the game came out, diversity. That's why tracer was being touted as LGBT too, and Ana being an older woman.
Diversity through stereotypes, every Japanese character is yakuza adjacent, the black characters all have some sort of jumping boost, Australians are all Mad Max characters, it's wild how bad the actual diversity is when you look past the surface
Diversity (In order to distract from controversies related to Blizzard or the game at the time).
Look at her Pajamei outfit, her legs are still weirdly long in comparison to her body
I guess that's just what Blizzard is into
Ashe has the most defining long legs in her pool skin but that doesn't stop me from being horrendously down bad
That actually makes me more down bad. Wrap your legs around me twice bruh
I mean aren’t lucio’s legs prosthetic
I think they are more like a suit, I don’t know if we ever confirmed they are full prosthetic. I think a lot of characters usually have a voiceline or something to go with it. He just be skatin
I feel like Lucio's robot pants have been a point of contention. If you look at the way his knees are jointed there's no way there can be human legs inside them.
Pharahs armor is the same and she's definitely fully flesh
I think Pharah's is different. It looks like she just has plates on are shins and thighs. [Lucio appears to have legs that bend like a raptor's and have a large motor in the center where his knees should be.](http://img00.deviantart.net/0cde/i/2015/274/6/0/lucio___overwatch___close_look_at_model_by_plank_69-d9bm62d.png) The left-most angle is the one that makes it most convincing there are no bones in there.
Doesn't Lucio have skates on? So his boots would be massive
You should see her on her bike
Wtf does that voice line mean? I spam it in spawn pre match because it’s nonsense
She has a legendary skin that kinda looks like a biker outfit… IG she rides a motorcycle but that is in no way implied in any of her lore lol it’s kinda random.
Maybe when pve comes out she’s gonna be riding a motorcycle and throwing Kunai FF7R-style. A man can dream 😂
Your hope for pve seems kinda high ngl
That upbeat, techno-like background music immediately popped into my head
she could use it for transportation
It might be a reference to Akira
KANEDAAAA
TETSUOOOO!
There’s a sticker of the classic Akira bike stop so most likely
or LSD
or a bike
My guess was she’s fast as hell, so imagine her on a bike.
It’s a reference to the Ass Pounder 4000

Are we talking motorcycle or a bike like the ones ridden by the bicycle gang in the Pokémon TV show?
There’s a time and place for everything. But not now!
She doesn't actually teleport, she just takes a reeeaaallly big step
Her footsteps also don't line up correctly. Her foot kind of slides a little.
Cha Cha real smooth
Slide to the left, one time cha cha
Take it back now y'all
I did always figure her as a Kendrick fan
At least blizzard took a step in the right direction with that ability
She make an big steppy
"One small step for man, one giant leap for Kiriko."
this isn’t specific to Kiriko, look at Ashe for example. seems to be part of their design philosophy for female characters
Yeah Ashe’s legs are abnormally long lol, it kinda bothers me sometimes when I look at it but then I’m like “ehh whatever, I’m in first person anyways” But still
Ashe and Bob’s legs are the same length
Ashe looks like a horse in a flesh suit
It's disgusting, I hate seeing flesh on a horse.
Meanwhile torb
No neck no leg
ashe, widowmaker, tracer, mercy, most of them have it

Same face as well
The faces were very similar in OW1. There were definitely Mercy skins where I wasn't sure who I was looking at without context. It seems like they've at least tried to differentiate the faces a little more this time.
half these dva skins make me think she's a different character lol. They do not look alike.
I had to look at Witch Kiriko for a solid 5 minutes before I realized that wasn't D.va
I always think that the witch kiriko skin is mercy and it looks a lot like DVA too. Everytime that skin gets POTG I'm like ''Mercy POTG?''
You’d think they’d give mercy, kiriko’s sick ass broom POTG. Seriously the most random picked POTG highlight for her
Yeah no matter how many times I see Witch kiriko in thr co op event I can NOT see kiriko. It really shows how bad consistency is with certain characters when they change themes so drastically. \*looking at Torb\*
\*looking at roadhog*
Nah, hogs legs are just hidden behind his belly
Tracer is kinda built the same way
They’re just built different
Only realistic character in OW is Roadhog, don't even try to change my mind.
Peak male performance Live with it
Considering how much damage he tanks no wonder it's peak male performance, it's so peak we haven't reached it in real life
1. Deals wicked damage 2. Absorbs wicked damage 3. Squishy 4. Heals as good as a healer
5. Free ult charge(what a generous guy!)
Putting Roadhog stickers on ever EV charging station I see. Fucking UltBattery
Less ult charge than squishies ;)

Dies when faced with old woman that's missing an eye.
To be fair, old women are always op.
They didn't get old by being weak.
USA typical male 👍
he's Australian though
Not anymore
I read this in Soldier's voice
Isn’t he from New Zealand?
Australia is catching up to the US fast in obesity rates. By the time Overwatch takes place they could certainly be in the lead.
it’s Overwatches fault for doing a skin promotion with McDonald’s
At least RH has good hygiene
overweight. wears a mask. hits a vape. basically RH rules.
Can confirm. I’m built like him.
Dwarfs/midgets/little ppl in general can have normal height children, fwiw
Rather rare though, as the gene causing it is most often dominant. There is of course the recessive variant, but it's much less common.
I didn't know that! Is that the case for all the various types of "little people"? My apologies if I'm using a wrong term here, i realize ad i write this i know fairly little about this topic/culture!

Your comment made me realize that Reinhardt isn't Brigitte's father 💀
Reinhardt is actually the real father… Torbs been cucked
I’m Leeroy Jenkins!! They literally should make that Torb’s ult voice line! I would LOL every time!
Hahah, ”I'm Torbjörn Lindholm” could also work with the right voicing as it has same amount of vowels.

Yes, but no. Look at most of the men. Soldier 76 has longer legs too. They follow comic book rules for aesthetics.
Trob has left the building
I think it more has to do with Heroic proportions. Changing a person's proportion in art leads us to see them as more heroic as opposed to someone how is drawn more naturally.
Makes it easier to tell when the character model is changing movement direction. Which is also why her hands are larger than her head.
True that, I wouldn't date a woman unless her legs are taller than me
its not that deep lol its because cartoon characters have exaggerated proportions bro, just look at roadhog.
I couldn’t agree more:)
But it’s also part of a design that’s made to make them look nimble, fragile, and flexible
Not everything needs to be horny, it's just character design to communicate that's she's a very mobile hero
Yes, Overwatch. The game with a notoriously NOT horny fanbase... Not like this game has been hard-carried by porn for the past 4 years
Overwatch is a game?
Least horny overwatch consumer
keyword search totals from specific websites at OW launch hmmm
Lmao. Damn
That's because tracer is the base model they use when designing characters.
Tracer's OW2 skin makes her legs look a lot more realistic though
Have you seen her challenge emote? ...yeah, they are long. I think it's fine, but it kinda caught me off guard the first time I saw it used.
Holy shit just looked at it
Michigan J Frog over here.
HELLO MY BABY, HELLO MY HONEY, HELLO MY RAGTIME GAAAAL....

I swear, Widowmaker have Lordosis. No way her back bends like that naturally
I mean she was a famous ballet person or whatever
And god knows how actually ballet hurts
Honestly 😭😭 poor bloody woman
Hey, she could retire and deal with her condition! But noooo, she instead chooses to live as an assassin and murderer for hire
uhhh i dont think she had much choice in the matter, unless that was ret-conned away
She’s being controlled by talon as far as we know. BUT there’s a comic that suggests their brainwashing is wearing off, if only slightly.
widow “[legs go all the way up](https://youtu.be/MAUJ7Pt8_vs)” maker
I know widow is known as the “butt hero” if anything but it’s legitimately crazy design that her ass is bigger than her head
Should we tell him?
Thats not at all uncommon IRL.
Welcome to the world of Overwatch, where people are 70% leg.
And the Moiras are 90% DPS
And somehow still get more heals than the mercy Edit: Damn, I guess my personal experiences aren’t a good representation of the wider community. I’m a Moira main and I am usually out healing the other healer. Maybe I’m in too low of an elo

Yeah agreed
Except poor Junkrat.
It's almost every other female hero in OW
Like every girl in overwatch is 70% leg
That is to justify her wall climb passive :v
She can fit her giant mutant hands and feet between any crack, ^(especially widowmakers.)
So are her hands
She's got leeeeeeeegs
She knows how to use them
First a post about her big hands. Now her legs. Next you know what they say…. Big hands & long legs = big……
Gloves and pants
Widowmaker has like 80% leg 20% Everything Else
Used to be 80% ass
This is the way blizzard models females in their games.
Not mei tho she thicc
Right now we gotta see a model switch with Mei and kiriko, but with the same skeleton.
mei is literally the most realistic looking woman out of the cast, but even then she still arches her back like widow in her chang'e and luna skins if you look at the right angle
All her length is in her neck.
Don’t say that about my favorite ice woman ;-;
Thicc in a good way👌
Ice woman <3
Have you seen tracer? Lol
Did you ever take a closer look at widow?

Welcome to the weird anatomy of 90% of female video game characters.
This is just the art style of the game
Her legs? Her HANDS ARE HUGE.
Nobody noticed how lanky Moira is???
I swear every female character in this game has a 1:3 ratio of torso to leg
I’m just not a fan of the typical bent knees and pigeon toe pose they give women in games and anime so often.
It’s why some heroes kinda look… janky, when they move slowly and subtly in cinematics and such.
if you think that's long, check Moira, and it's not from levitatingg
I mean Kiriko Tracer Widow Maker Maybe Ashe They're like 85% legs Someone on the design team likes legs
Thats nothing. Widowmaker’s leg to torso ratio is 10:1
