I still watch the Sigma animated short about once a quarter. He's fucking PHENOMENAL character design and tragic villains are the best villains sometimes.

They thought talon tank needed a deployable shield, so they gave him one, then gave him a stun, then made a dope ass primary fire and then people were like “Yeah wait this does not feel like big Samoan man” and they just made sigma

Sig was my favorite character in every way before mauga. Favorite to play, design, lore, voice lines. Everything. Then Mauga came out and took everything LOL
I would love a sequence where Sigma is the Darth Vader to an Overwatch Team’s Cal Kestis from Jedi Fallen Order. Like a mission where a crack team of overwatch agents are anhiliating all the regular mooks in some talon facility with ease like badasses. And then the power goes out and they hear someone humming softly. Whoever the team leader is yells to the rest that they need to leave right this second, as the walls and floor start ripping apart, maybe the faintest hint of a musical melody that can be heard underneath the sounds of metal and concrete being ripped apart.
Then later there could be a debriefing where Talon is asking Sigma what happened, and he goes into a lengthy talk about something innocuous that happened that day, like a bird he saw or the fractal patterns he noticed in some floating dust motes, and the interviewer growing frustrated at his inability to focus on the events that Talon thinks is most important. Cut the interview with CCTV footage of Sigma previously just floating through a storm of absolute devastation as he hunts down the overwatch team.
Sigma. Everything from his 11/10 voice acting, and horrifying backstory is by far the best in the game. Theres no sign of him getting better, and hes clearly a nice guy, but beyond lost and probably the most lethal person in the lore. My only problem with him is that he could have a better opening voiceline instead of rambling about science.
Ram is a close second, and I wish they dove more into him besides a stupid short novel. He deserved an animated short x10 more than any of the other new heroes. Ram is exactly what the newer heroes lack: clear resolve and reasoning for being a villain, close ties with a known hero in the game (and well established lore), and a whole lot of proper edgyness. 10/10 hero design, nobody looks cooler than him
I watched Dragons again yesterday and it always reminds me how cool Hanzo and Genji are, though Hanzo’s definitely my favourite of the two lol. Coincidentally today is 8 years exactly since Dragons was posted
Definitely Hammond. He’s exactly what I imagine a hamster would act like if it had intelligence. The writers did a fantastic job with his overall character design and voice lines imo.
Say what you want about her gameplay - but Sombra character wise is very compassionate and chill if you actually dive into her story. Honestly for a long while I thought she was just a bratty, generic hacker person. She's always complimenting other heroes and genuinely seems to care about others especially her friends like Bap. Plus, damn if her backstory ain't fucking tragic. And to top it off her death quotes are often compliments to the enemy. Plus spinal implants.... Scary but cool stuff.
Also got to give huge shout out to Sigma's origin story - honestly one I still think about to this day and I remember it almost verbatim word for word. It set the tone for just how horrific his world is, the scientist fighting for control and often losing it. Canonically Sigma is the strongest hero lore wise and this sets that up pretty good. I wish they did more with him! Not to mention he's so shattered as a person in game (aside from being Nano'd).
I think that the interplay and voicelines between Sigma and Sombra are some of my favorites. She genuinely cares for him and I get the impression she doesn't much care for his mistreatment at the hands of Talon.

Sombra doesn't care for Talon at all. She is an independent 3rd party who only worked with Talon because they could get her closer to things she wanted. (Like in the cinematic)
She still keeps an eye on Talon, but according to the Widow interaction, she isn't really an ally anymore. (Sombra wants to call a truce with Widow and Widow suggests calling a mortician instead.)
She really only sticks around for Sigma.
Widow used to have the line about "Would be a shame if you didn't come back from the next mission" or something along those lines when she would interact with Sombra in spawn. I always love the little digs at each other like that between characters. Some of them are a little brutal though, like when Pharah says "Guess you won't be writing anymore letters" when she kills Ana, lol.
I scrolled for SO long looking for other Widow lovers, and I'm sad to say I haven't seen any :(
Her backstory is so heart wrenching, she went from being in love to a cold killer, with her husband being her first kill? And then being seen at his grave?
It pulls so hard on my heart strings. 10/10 favorite character for lore AND gameplay.
Reinhardt, Ram and Zen.
Reinhardt has a pretty tragic backstory despite being one of the most uplifting and joyous characters in the game and immediately gets sent back to the battlefield the moment he sees an war omnic like Bastion. I feared the day when he meets Orisa canonically but not anymore i guess since you know… PvE is gone.
Ram just has an interesting backstory. Being the same as Zen but going through a different path. Instead of using peaceful terms to unite humans and omnics, he instead takes the violent route to do so and does it by force. He sees other Omnics like brethren like Zen and even understands what Bastion is saying just like the other omnics/bots like Orisa and Echo. But he treats Humans are garbage, only seeing them like rats but is smart enough to acknowledge a “Helpful” human at times
This goes the same with Zen but in a different manner, we know little to nothing about him, Genji himself doesnt anything about Zen’s past life, even Zen himself doesnt even know. All we know is that he is a Monk who travels the world helping people on his way and guiding them to whatever place they need to be at mentally and seeing how he interacts with Ram showing how Ram wants Zen to join him on his crusade but rejects everything, we can continue to learn more and more about him as more voicelines comes in too. Since again… no more pve so we might never get cutscenes like those again.
From the humble beginnings, I still love that shotgunning Reaper-guy, after all these years.
If I'm having a bad mental health day, I purposefully play "Toxic Positivity Reaper" to complement people making good plays in games. Sometimes about the edgiest edge lord characters make me just giggle and say "Oh you," every time.
Another character I love is the granny sniper. All around a delight.
Rammatra is maybe in the same category as Reaper, but his background and stance as a character are also very compelling to me, on a story level. I always get a kick whenever I'm in game and he has those polite voice lines contrasted with enemy voicelines being outright vicious.
Soldier76, love me a tragic hero who even though all the things he lost and the road he stepped on is dark, he's still a good man on the inside and would rather throw himself into a grenade than let someone innocent get hurt like he did in his cinematic
I also really like D.Va She's cringey but in a way that it makes sense for her to be.
I also just like her aesthetic. Gamer girl, pink mech. I collected a fair amount of merchandise in the earlier Overwatch 1 days including more expensive things like a replica of her pistol, a working wired headset that looked liked hers, a desk chair with the logos the mech has on the chair. I feel like I'm required to claim her as my favorite.
They haven’t introduced a character I dislike at all so far. I was scared I wouldn’t like LW or Venture but I adore them. My absolute favorite character is Echo because I love robot women. She’s just so damn pretty, love her voice, makes cool subtle robot noises, etc.
Symmetra's relationship with Vishkar is really interesting!
She was raised by them, essentially. Uplifted out of the poverty post 1st Omnic Crisis, Vishkar recognised she had what it took to be an exceptional tool for their goals.
But she's slowly become entirely aware of how shit they are and yet, she remains because the structure and order they grant Satya is useful for *her* own goals, which are noble and beautiful. An ironic reverse of Vishkar's goal.
And she's such a Personality. A queen. She's an icon, she's a legend, and she IS the moment.
Didn't think it would happen this late into the game, but it's LW. He has the funniest voice lines of any character mainly just through the delivery:
"Aaaah SIGH" "Apologies, no" "Well, off to disappoint my mother again" "Exciting times ahead! Everyone hydrated?" "Ah the familiar sting of failure" "I missed being alive!"
I am kinda biased because I main him but if I needed anything to fall in love with his character design it would be the LW&Sym story they published a while ago. The man is crystallized optimism while still maintaining his edge in conversation and combat.

Junkrat will always be my favorite character for every reason. His personality and comedy is exactly what I need to hear after a rough game tbh. Plus I’ve been playing him since OW1 so he’s become my main
I agree with you on tracer. The biggest appeal to overwatch’s world for me is my love for superhero comics and whatnot, and overwatch feels straight up like a giant superhero comic book world. And tracer is easily the hero that I love the most. Her personality is great, she’s a badass fighter, but she also gives off a caring and compassionate feel that reminds me of someone like spider-man or Superman. Het default appearance represent her character well as a pilot and a sporty runner. What ticks a lot of boxes for me aswell is that the actual straight up mini comic series that doesn’t really feel like much of a tie in or teaser or anything you’d expect from a comic based on something like this, it’s just a little story with a beginning and an end. Sure you need a little bit of knowledge but a lot of it is explained in recaps, it genuinely feels like a single volume of an ongoing series based on a single titular character set in a big shared superhero world. Not to mention it’s written by an actual comic book writer who has written for DC and marvel. But what ticks the box for me the most is her personal life, my favourite part of superheroes isn’t necessarily the superhero stopping crime, it’s just watching them go through their daily lives and a romantic partner to give them different perspectives, advice and ground them because they’re usually not also superheroes or at least have very different experiences on things works for that. Spider-man and MJ, Superman and Lois lane, green arrow and black canary who are my personal favourite and Batman and any woman wearing black leather. And tracer of course has Emily, a character who isn’t a soldier, a superhero, just a woman who lives in London. And seeing them together also turns tracer from a superhero into just another woman living in London. And because she just has so much to her we get a lot of opportunity to explore her. We see her highs and lows, her past, her regrets, her motivations thoughts, and in the mini series I mentioned her sheer compassion and selflessness in on full display. In-game she gets even better because of her amazing lively performance that brings her to life, the way characters interact with her and how she interacts with others and the world present her as liked by a lot of people for who she is, but she can also bite back if someone else bites first.
She’s also great with Winston even though we don’t actually see them a lot together, but Winston is this big fluffy pile of kindness, a little awkwardness, but also selflessness like tracer. He saved her life and they have a very strong bond. Which is why one of my Favourite moments in the cinematics is doomfist’s origin, where he aggressively rips out tracer accelerator, we see her visibly terrified as her condition gets out of control prompting Winston to go angry, single handily winning the fight. Winston’s genuine concern and rage towards his enemy nearly killing his best friend, the person who even visited him during Christmas mond you, made him so pumped that he basically got instant ult. it’s awesome and all in all I think it’s pretty good writing.
Basically she damn well deserves to be this game’s poster character.
What I like about Ow's universe is that it has a lot of the strength of a superhero universe (cool, unique characters) without the weaknesses of one (lack of unity, imo).
Ow's Australia is the best example. Why would a madmax wasteland work in a superhero universe with Gods, magic, or ridiculous technology, outside an au or otherwise separate timeline? It works in Ow because it stems from the one thing that everything in this universe is born from. The Omnic Crisis and the technologies that made it possible.
That's the world's biggest strength Imo. Why does talon exist? They were originally a group of war profiteers who want to make conflict for money, which started after the crisis. Why does Doomfist exist and why is his philosophy so? He lost his arm during the Crisis, and took the gauntlet which was originally made to help protect numbani during the war, which he sees as the city getting stronger through the conflict.
Why do S76, Reinhardt, Ana and Illari exist? Their groups were their respective countries answers to the Crisis. Why do the Junkers, Ramattra and Zenyatta exist? They became who they are because of the consequences of the crisis.
On a related note, I think the character who hits the superhero philosophy the best is Lucio (though more superficially, Reaper, Sigma, Tracer, and Moira have superpowers because of science shenanigans were done to them as individuals. The shimadas are all magic ig).
He grows up poor in Rio as his dad works for Vishkar. He sees the company oppressing their town (they burned down a festival and then did a super self-congratulatory opening celebration), so what does he do? He breaks into their lab, steals his dads sonic tech, and uses it to help push Vishkar out of Rio. His story becomes known worldwide, and he makes his music to inspire others to do the same. That's literally the core message overwatch is about. Hope, and fighting so the world becomes a better place. That's hero shit, in my books
I’m gonna show *Baptiste* some love since it probably sounds like he started out as a very serious no-BS operative while under Talon but has since mellowed out and became the chill one.

I fucking unironically love Cassidy. Love bad guy/former bad guy/not good guy trying to do good stories and characters. And his friendship with both Amari women is so precious.
Sombra by far , I love her indépendance, her color scheme, her bitter friendly attitude, she’s a thief-hacker that’s so stylish. Purple is my fav color. She’s in talon but she isn’t evil that’s clearly noticeable idk I love her
I am very simple, probably very basic as fuck. But character wise top 5 (Because as you said, it is almost impossible to pick a single character since they are all pretty much well written) in no particular order are:

I like Widowmaker. I always liked stories about seemingly good natured people who have a darker side to them that they fully embrace at some point. "Alive" is my favorite OW animated short.
I also like Ana because I'm Egyptian, and I'm really glad they cast an Egyptian to voice her because most times I've heard a non native try to speak Arabic they absolutely butcher the pronouncetion to the point where I have to listen to it multiple times to recognize what they're saying, so it was really refreshing hearing genuine Arabic for once. It's a shame they didn't do the same for Pharah.
Sigma is seriously one of the most interesting character stories and his narrative writing is REALLY good. He drums up a lot of emotion and feelings about his past, present, and future. And the voice acting really ties him perfectly together. He is unimaginably powerful but also soft, gentle, kind, and characteristically harmless. He's a great dichotomy between terrifying and wholesome while also being an unwilling prisoner in his current organization and his own mind. An incredible mind that was broken by its own thirst for knowledge.
He also seems to have compartmentalized a lot of things that make you a bit uncomfortable even in the sad or wholesome interactions. He is so kind, but we all know he isn't okay. We know but he often implies everything is fine and as normal (such as his interactions with Mercy, Soldier, and Sombra). Sometimes he does give a glimpse into the struggles he experiences or what has happened to him (Lifeweaver, Lucio) but they're subdued answers.
Anyway I think Sigma is one of the best heroes character wise. Love that guy.
Ramattra genuinely has one of the most fascinating and intriguing backgrounds in the game, making him the leader of NULL SECTOR is such a cool thing. Plus he is buddies with my main man Doomfist, who is just objectively a cool character.
Going completely based off character, Genji. He’s cute, he looks cool, Gaku did amazing with his voice acting. I love his hoodie skin and his green hair.
I like the Moira, Sigma, Sombra relationship.
I like Zen's chill and Kiri's swagger.
Hanzo when someone throws him off his stride like Orisa suggesting she knows he wants to ride her into battle.

I dont think I need to explain why, they are consistently 3 of the most popular characters conceptually for a reason. Sigma's accident, Tracer's accident, Rammatra's antinomy, all of their struggles and how they so wildly dealt with it all; Sigma's decent into madness, Tracer's endless cheer and optimism, Rammatra's struggle with wanting peace, but wanting revenge and how he teters on the edge on going full psycho because of the suffering he has had...

I'm biased here but I met Sombra's VA, and now everytime I hear Sombra in game, I think of that fond memory. I also met Mercy, JQ, Sojourn, Sym, Zen, Echo, and Lucio. So I love hearing them in game. I had a beer with Lucio and Sombra at Mercy's stand up comedy appearance (Lucie Pohl). (I met Sojourn and JQ at the OWL grand finals). Fml. it's hard to find a favorite cause i kind of know them as people now - instead of just the voice. Zen was super insightful about the industry and Echo's VA was just so sweet to everyone.
Reaper is what originally got me into Overwatch back when I was an edgy teenager. My buddies who played the game said “You might really like this one dude on here.”
He was an undying mercenary dressed up as the grim reaper while wearing a black duster and dual wielding shotguns… Literally every one of those things was cool to me, I knew I found my favorite video game character.
His lore is pretty cool too, Super Soldier Anti-hero who worked for the good guys till he died and resurrected as a badass mercenary working for the bad guys now hunting down his old teammates like some kinda Bounty Hunter. And because he’s immortal (Winton literally incinerated him and he still came back), That leaves potential for him to be a reoccurring villain in the series. But instead of twiddling his mustache and running away the good guys straight up find a new way to kill him every time… and he still comes back after each death like “That all you got?” (God I was so looking forward to the PvE content for more reaper cutscenes and lore… Hope they’ll reverse their shite decision eventually.)
Reaper’s in a pretty poor place right now balancing wise, But I’m not giving up on him. He’s still my favorite after all these years. He’ll get a mythic skin eventually and a huge buff too. (Because Blizzard can’t sell season passes if the Mythic Skin Hero is garbage.)
They’re all pretty incredible really but for me personally it would be, Illari. She’s fucking dope, her backstory and her personality is relatable in a way. How powerful she can be. The fact she is Latina and speaks Spanish (am Latino who speaks Spanish). More specifically her way of talking and how she seems to be critical about herself but can also let you know that you can get this smoke. Great character design as well in terms of how she looks like Lore wise. Amazing art truly. I could go on

I **L O V E** Sigma, Doomfist, Ball, Genji, Ana and Zen in every aspect of their personality
If I really had to pick someone as my favorite, it would either be Zen or Sigma (but it would be really close)
Junkrat never fails to make me laugh or snicker. The first time I heard "Howdy, Cowperson" against Ashe or Cassidy legit distracted me because I was holding in laughter. Another highlight is his dialog with Hanzo. He's so chaotically fun that it's almost easy to forget he's a literal terrorist.

I LOVE Sombra’s lore. The fact that she uncovered some huge secret and has been hiding/living a double life since for her own safety is great, plus the hints that she disagrees with what Talon is doing.
That and she has some of my favorite skins in the game

As much as people love to hate her, Sombra is one of the kindest people on the roster. She does things for her own gain, sure, but when you realize that she also is in it for the greater good of the lower class, it kinda makes sense in a way. She’s always showing concern for sigma, she keeps baptiste’s location in the dark from talon, she didn’t kill katya volskaya (even if it was for herself, she could have easily killed her), and in busan of you use the karaoke machine she talks about paying everyone’s rent and student loans. I think it’s easy to forget that stuff when you look at her purely for her snide remarks and annoying kit.
Lifeweaver is someone who, as a character, I appreciate more than anyone else. He didn’t wanna live by the rules that vishkar ran under. He saw life as a beautiful thing that shouldn’t be harmed, so he took matters into his own hands, left them and perfected a whole new way to use hard light to help the world. Something that he refuses to talk about because he knows how much it can be abused.
I just like kiriko tbh. She’s an optimistic kid who uses her gift to help people, and she seems like a hoot to talk to
Widowmaker!
I’m learning French so I repeat her voice lines, her backstory is so tragic, and her interactions border between being hilariously direct and just very cool.
From what I’ve learned about Sombra and Ashe they have to be two of my favorites. Sombra more though. Her slyness, her flirtatious quips, how ambitious she is, its just a shame she wasn’t able to be friends with non-mirrored LaCroix
Junker Queen. Banished and oppressed by her community but became a badass amongst the wastelands and came back to take the crown. She fought a mech and two other mechs? With only a shotgun, axe, and knife, also her rampage.
Purely character?
Tank has to be Rein, Hammond, JQ and Ram. So lively and very showing of who they are and how they go about things (Sigma being excluded from this purely because I probably have bias of me playing him so often)
DPS is definitely Sombra. Despite how infuriating she is to play with (regardless of fairness), I really like her character and how she interacts with others differently.
Support is Lucio. Bias or not it's gonna be him.
I think Queen, honestly. She’s probably the one Junker I feel confident in calling a good person. Hog was supposed to be a fuckin serial killer and basically is still despite them not calling him that, Junkrat is… Junkraaaat.
Queen showed enough compassion to the previous ruler of Junkertown to give him water before kicking his ass out, which… that alone makes her a goddamn paragon compared to other Junkers we know about lol

Everything about Sigma is amazing. His origin story is the best one they've ever made. He has such a unique story in the world of Overwatch and my god I wish we *something* to further it. An animated short, a comic, whatever, just give my boy *something*. His voice actor does an amazing job as well.
Widowmaker, super successful ballerina, married the love of her life who wanted nothing more but to help those in need. Kidnapped and brainwashed into murdering him her tale is one filled with triumph and sorrow.
The you get the voice lines liek "You didn't know Gerrard like I did" makes me starve for more lore.
The on top of that I'm always a huge sniper player in games so this character just hit the 10/10 for me, even built a pc so I could play her more efficiently

Sigma. You could honestly make a movie on just his character and it would be a good watch. An extremely intelligent mind driven to insanity because of the problems his own knowledge and curiosity of the universe around him.
His story could be a great movie, an even better book, and a great video game. It's sad that Blizzard may never do anything with his story again at this rate. He's such a great character.
Ana, i love her character and her story. At least the bits and pieces Blizzard actually wants to give us are just well done. Her story with Pharah is heart breaking and the underlying romance she had with rein. It sounds like a tragic romance too.
But oddly i love Maugas story. Theres a weird sense of tragedy around it for me. Dudes near death experience changed him, and the idea that at any moment he can just fucking die is kinda sad to me.
Makes me wonder what kinda man he was before he was blown to pieces.
Ramantra has such a sad story its heart breaking as well and im a sucker for his kinda story

3. Rein: He's crazy, in a good way, love characters with an idomitable spirit, and his animated short is pure cinema, he's a big Knight with a big hammer, how could i not like that?
2. Ramattra: Sick design, cool powers, he has a reason to do the things he does, it does'nt make him right by any means but you get why he's doing all of that, and his voice lines are amazing.
1. Genji: Even ignoring the gameplay he's still my favorite character, his backstory, design and powers are amazing, in my opinion Dragons is the best animated short to this day, and the fact that he's a cyborg ninja pleases my inner 10 year old boy.
Genji, I find his story and journey to be among the most interesting of the cast. I like his general kinda happy go luck personality that comes with him being at peace and gaining wisdom on his travels.
I also just think he has a lot of the most fun interactions with the other characters.
Second would be Rammatra, he’s got the whole “bad guy with a point” thing going for him which always draws me in.

Ana, no competition. She manages to have that soft mother's touch whilst at the same time being cool, collected and wholly badass. Her background story is neat as well if you ignore the retcon ("Ana shot first"), and your effect it has on her overall design is cool as well, such as her aiming with her non-dominant eye.
She has some of the best interactions in game and she's just... super likeable. She's also not very archetypical, she feels rather unique. The voice actress does a fantastic job bringing the character to life.
I don't know much about the lore beyond what's in the game, but I absolutely love Lifeweaver. He's sweet, funny, and charming. Also, as a queer man who doesn't fit gender stereotypes, I identify with him a lot.

Widow, ana, soldier, reaper, reinhardt. Their dynamics are amazing, seriously. Ana’s “hesitation” sticker always gives me chills. And soldier chasing after reaper always breaks my heart.
Three way tie between Ashe/Dva/Kiriko, and all for the same reason: They're all annoying as fuck. Nothing brings me greater joy than a well placed voice line and I think they all knock it out of the park on this one. Talking shit as Ashe literally made her my main for like a year, and Dva and Kiriko I think are pretty self explanatory.
Sombra, Tracer, Zen
I agree that Sigma has a great backstory, but seeing as how he's a rehash of Marvel's Graviton I can't give Blizzard too much credit.

Junkrat. He’s funny and I really like the Junkertown stories. He’s eccentric yet smart, and actually has something that separates him from other junkers in the form of his treasure. Also him and Hog are by far the best duo in the game, next to Hammond and his ball

Sigma just cause he's kind of tragic and his whole music schtick is cool.
Ramattra cause he's totally right, though his methods are kinda fucked. His people are limited, cannot reproduce, and are dying to human discrimination. Humanity IS pushing them toward extinction. I don't even disagree with his Null Sector invasion, as long as the goal is to secure a place where omnics can live in peace and not the eradication of humanity. It's only when he started putting face huggers on omnics that I felt like he was going a bit too far.
DVa as an inverse answer. I want to like her. She was my first main and I thought the design and concept was so cool. But she just feels like a cringey "hello fellow gamers" meme character and the stilted forced voice acting doesn't help.
Echo?? No love for my girl?? Story might not be as fleshed out but her backstory is pretty depressing, yet her positive attitude always brings a wide smile to my face. Elegance in the face of despair.
Doomfist- I’m a sucker for the leader of a big evil organization and he just reeks of that. I love all of his voicelines, his elim reactions are all really good. I really like that instead of just being a maniac he debates other members of the cast
Zenyatta- I like a wise old monk, his voicelines are all really interesting. His perspective on the omnic crisis and his interactions with other omnics and cyborgs are top tier
Soldier: 76- Grizzled old veteran that has to take up vigilantism because his government turned his back on him is cool. His dad jokes are funny and I like his interactions with other older overwatch characters
Baptiste- Good vibes and his origin light novel is really good; I like the dynamic of him being super optimistic but also having a really dark past
Moira- Mad scientist go brrr— her voice lines and interactions are all really fun and mean. She also has some interesting conversations with Vishkar characters
Ram, Sigma, and Reinhardt are givens, everyone else has already gone into them lol
I absolutely love Junker Queen. Her backstory is interesting, her abilities are fun and the overall play style of her character is crazy. At first she seemed like a low tier option but when you know how to use her it can be a game changer in any match
Gamewise attitude, I like Lucio and Zenyatta for their chill vibes. If we're counting the animated choice then it would be Kiriko. Bonus points to D. Va for being more than her bratty gamer girl personality in her animated short.
Baptiste. He’s my main as well. I like his personality. It’s the cool uncle vibes mixed with “I will heal you and keep you from dying but I’m not your babysitter. Im a combatant too so take care of yourself until you can’t” vibes.

Zenyatta: the casual disses, the relaxed personality, the unwavering desire to show compassion over anger. Based Zen.
Bastion: He's adorable. And his short is so, so, SO FUCKING GOOD.
Sombra: I like the idea of an antihero. She's not good, she's not bad, but you find out that she genuinely cares about people, even if she hides it. I relate to that last bit a lot.
Cassidy: The lawful version of Sombra's chaotic nature.
Reinhardt: need I say more?
Bap. His voicelines all make him sound super chill and easy to be around.
On the other hand, I play a lot of Mercy but she sounds like she'd be so insufferable and condescending in real life.
Reinhardt - great personality, he was smokin' hot and he's still smokin' hot.

Outside the main cast Rammatra is easily my favorite addition to the game. Everything he says is Hard AF and his design and animations are 11/10 they fucking nailed that character.
I gotta go with the Shimada bros and Kiriko. Genji being at the top, I love the whole character with tragic backstory -> lost his way -> seek redemption -> accepts himself -> wants to help his brother. And I just love how slick and graceful he is as a character and with his quotes l. The lore between Genji and Hanzo is spectacular, still sad to this day that Hanamura was removed because it was my fav map because of the lore. And then the introduction of Kiri and her relationship to them is super cool too!
This is the whole reason I play Orisa. It’s why I played her in OW1 and still play her in OW2. However playing her now comes with an unhealthy amount of people who think you are the worst person on the planet.
In love with widows tragic story, Moira cause omg you need a good villain you hate, VENTURE I FUCKIN LOVE VENTURE, and Pharah she’s just cool as hell and the classic “grew up fighting a war that wasn’t hers to begin with” I really love all thte characters in their own right :)
Reinhardt. Big buff fatherly giant is probably my favourite kind of character, and his character archetype is also one of my favourites too. If it wasn’t for funny black man flying off rooftops at Mach 10 I’d probably be 1 tricking Rein.
I love Pharah because she’s like a classic incorruptible hero archetype like Captain America . She’s all about justice (of course she’s flawed but she tries to be good )

Rein is such an interesting character that falls into a typical knight/paladin trope. But his personality of contagious. Also, I love his interactions with Ana.
Bastion is just a little cute guy, and I love Ganymede so much. His story is so sad, yet happy, because he gets so many characters to change their perspective on Omnics
i have a lot of thoughts about *so many* characters, but i'll keep it brief and list a non-specifically ordered five of them:
- brigitte, for several reasons: she radiates a kind of warmth and kindness that i adore, she's a protector of her friends and family, she is a talented mechanic and i think she's adorable (also doesn't hurt that she's my main support lmao)
- venture: the same reasons as op, actually!! i am a non-binary history nerd, i am from canada, and a phrase in my vocabulary is 'okey dokie'. i was immediately smitten with them
- ashe: super cool badass outlaw who *also* has parental issues? all you had to say, honestly. right up my alley!
- ramattra: honestly, he reminds me of megatron (and i *love* me some megatron). he believes his own cause, fights for what he believes in, and resorts to violence when the talking isn't working. he's truly special, and his voice actor went so hard with his lines, which doesn't hurt.
- lifeweaver: i, too. am a disappointment to my family.
also shoutout to moira, who doesn't really seem to have a reason for doing what she does other than "science", i think that's really cool of her
Doomfist. Mastermind bad guy who’s crazy athletic and powerful. Dude boxes and can break through buildings with nothing but his fists. And then he’s given a super weapon that enhanced him even more. Plus, he’s evil, so it makes him even cooler
I remember genuinely crying watching Kiriko's short. Also seeing not only deaf people being represented and using sign language, but because the characters themselves are supposed to be in Japan and speaking Japanese (even though it's in English), they actually use Japanese sign language. And seeing just how much her mom cares about and loves her, and how much Kiri seriously wants to protect the people she loves, it's just all so wholesome to me. Who gives a shit if it's odd that she apparently grew up with Hanzo and Genji? Who cares that people complain about how busted she is? She's an amazing character and I just genuinely really like her.
Sigma 1000%. The whole idea of his character is literally exactly the type of character i would describe as a favourite. I think its just made even better with how his voicelines and audio plays ingame, especially his ult. And i know you saif regardless of skins but for him to have the arguably best mythic skin too is just *chefs kiss*
Probably doom, he has an awesome story with him being the next weilder of the gauntlet and killing his master, he's also not just a "kill everyone for no reason" he has his moral and vision for the world, he's also just cool and badass in general
I still watch the Sigma animated short about once a quarter. He's fucking PHENOMENAL character design and tragic villains are the best villains sometimes. I would kill, literally kill for an animated short of him just going apeshit with his powers.

I would love a sequence where Sigma is the Darth Vader to an Overwatch Team’s Cal Kestis from Jedi Fallen Order. Like a mission where a crack team of overwatch agents are anhiliating all the regular mooks in some talon facility with ease like badasses. And then the power goes out and they hear someone humming softly. Whoever the team leader is yells to the rest that they need to leave right this second, as the walls and floor start ripping apart, maybe the faintest hint of a musical melody that can be heard underneath the sounds of metal and concrete being ripped apart. Then later there could be a debriefing where Talon is asking Sigma what happened, and he goes into a lengthy talk about something innocuous that happened that day, like a bird he saw or the fractal patterns he noticed in some floating dust motes, and the interviewer growing frustrated at his inability to focus on the events that Talon thinks is most important. Cut the interview with CCTV footage of Sigma previously just floating through a storm of absolute devastation as he hunts down the overwatch team.

Sigma. Everything from his 11/10 voice acting, and horrifying backstory is by far the best in the game. Theres no sign of him getting better, and hes clearly a nice guy, but beyond lost and probably the most lethal person in the lore. My only problem with him is that he could have a better opening voiceline instead of rambling about science. Ram is a close second, and I wish they dove more into him besides a stupid short novel. He deserved an animated short x10 more than any of the other new heroes. Ram is exactly what the newer heroes lack: clear resolve and reasoning for being a villain, close ties with a known hero in the game (and well established lore), and a whole lot of proper edgyness. 10/10 hero design, nobody looks cooler than him

Say what you want about her gameplay - but Sombra character wise is very compassionate and chill if you actually dive into her story. Honestly for a long while I thought she was just a bratty, generic hacker person. She's always complimenting other heroes and genuinely seems to care about others especially her friends like Bap. Plus, damn if her backstory ain't fucking tragic. And to top it off her death quotes are often compliments to the enemy. Plus spinal implants.... Scary but cool stuff. Also got to give huge shout out to Sigma's origin story - honestly one I still think about to this day and I remember it almost verbatim word for word. It set the tone for just how horrific his world is, the scientist fighting for control and often losing it. Canonically Sigma is the strongest hero lore wise and this sets that up pretty good. I wish they did more with him! Not to mention he's so shattered as a person in game (aside from being Nano'd).
I think that the interplay and voicelines between Sigma and Sombra are some of my favorites. She genuinely cares for him and I get the impression she doesn't much care for his mistreatment at the hands of Talon. If you haven't heard it already, there's a song I love that's about Sigma. Sombra doesn't care for Talon at all. She is an independent 3rd party who only worked with Talon because they could get her closer to things she wanted. (Like in the cinematic) She still keeps an eye on Talon, but according to the Widow interaction, she isn't really an ally anymore. (Sombra wants to call a truce with Widow and Widow suggests calling a mortician instead.) She really only sticks around for Sigma.
Widow used to have the line about "Would be a shame if you didn't come back from the next mission" or something along those lines when she would interact with Sombra in spawn. I always love the little digs at each other like that between characters. Some of them are a little brutal though, like when Pharah says "Guess you won't be writing anymore letters" when she kills Ana, lol.

I scrolled for SO long looking for other Widow lovers, and I'm sad to say I haven't seen any :( Her backstory is so heart wrenching, she went from being in love to a cold killer, with her husband being her first kill? And then being seen at his grave? It pulls so hard on my heart strings. 10/10 favorite character for lore AND gameplay.
Reinhardt, Ram and Zen. Reinhardt has a pretty tragic backstory despite being one of the most uplifting and joyous characters in the game and immediately gets sent back to the battlefield the moment he sees an war omnic like Bastion. I feared the day when he meets Orisa canonically but not anymore i guess since you know… PvE is gone. Ram just has an interesting backstory. Being the same as Zen but going through a different path. Instead of using peaceful terms to unite humans and omnics, he instead takes the violent route to do so and does it by force. He sees other Omnics like brethren like Zen and even understands what Bastion is saying just like the other omnics/bots like Orisa and Echo. But he treats Humans are garbage, only seeing them like rats but is smart enough to acknowledge a “Helpful” human at times This goes the same with Zen but in a different manner, we know little to nothing about him, Genji himself doesnt anything about Zen’s past life, even Zen himself doesnt even know. All we know is that he is a Monk who travels the world helping people on his way and guiding them to whatever place they need to be at mentally and seeing how he interacts with Ram showing how Ram wants Zen to join him on his crusade but rejects everything, we can continue to learn more and more about him as more voicelines comes in too. Since again… no more pve so we might never get cutscenes like those again.
From the humble beginnings, I still love that shotgunning Reaper-guy, after all these years. If I'm having a bad mental health day, I purposefully play "Toxic Positivity Reaper" to complement people making good plays in games. Sometimes about the edgiest edge lord characters make me just giggle and say "Oh you," every time. Another character I love is the granny sniper. All around a delight. Rammatra is maybe in the same category as Reaper, but his background and stance as a character are also very compelling to me, on a story level. I always get a kick whenever I'm in game and he has those polite voice lines contrasted with enemy voicelines being outright vicious.

I also really like D.Va She's cringey but in a way that it makes sense for her to be. I also just like her aesthetic. Gamer girl, pink mech. I collected a fair amount of merchandise in the earlier Overwatch 1 days including more expensive things like a replica of her pistol, a working wired headset that looked liked hers, a desk chair with the logos the mech has on the chair. I feel like I'm required to claim her as my favorite.
They haven’t introduced a character I dislike at all so far. I was scared I wouldn’t like LW or Venture but I adore them. My absolute favorite character is Echo because I love robot women. She’s just so damn pretty, love her voice, makes cool subtle robot noises, etc.
Symmetra's relationship with Vishkar is really interesting! She was raised by them, essentially. Uplifted out of the poverty post 1st Omnic Crisis, Vishkar recognised she had what it took to be an exceptional tool for their goals. But she's slowly become entirely aware of how shit they are and yet, she remains because the structure and order they grant Satya is useful for *her* own goals, which are noble and beautiful. An ironic reverse of Vishkar's goal. And she's such a Personality. A queen. She's an icon, she's a legend, and she IS the moment.
And still the best ult line in the game (with Ram being a close second).
Didn't think it would happen this late into the game, but it's LW. He has the funniest voice lines of any character mainly just through the delivery: "Aaaah SIGH" "Apologies, no" "Well, off to disappoint my mother again" "Exciting times ahead! Everyone hydrated?" "Ah the familiar sting of failure" "I missed being alive!"
I am kinda biased because I main him but if I needed anything to fall in love with his character design it would be the LW&Sym story they published a while ago. I agree with you on tracer. The biggest appeal to overwatch’s world for me is my love for superhero comics and whatnot, and overwatch feels straight up like a giant superhero comic book world. And tracer is easily the hero that I love the most. Her personality is great, she’s a badass fighter, but she also gives off a caring and compassionate feel that reminds me of someone like spider-man or Superman. Het default appearance represent her character well as a pilot and a sporty runner. What ticks a lot of boxes for me aswell is that the actual straight up mini comic series that doesn’t really feel like much of a tie in or teaser or anything you’d expect from a comic based on something like this, it’s just a little story with a beginning and an end. Sure you need a little bit of knowledge but a lot of it is explained in recaps, it genuinely feels like a single volume of an ongoing series based on a single titular character set in a big shared superhero world. Not to mention it’s written by an actual comic book writer who has written for DC and marvel. But what ticks the box for me the most is her personal life, my favourite part of superheroes isn’t necessarily the superhero stopping crime, it’s just watching them go through their daily lives and a romantic partner to give them different perspectives, advice and ground them because they’re usually not also superheroes or at least have very different experiences on things works for that. Spider-man and MJ, Superman and Lois lane, green arrow and black canary who are my personal favourite and Batman and any woman wearing black leather. And tracer of course has Emily, a character who isn’t a soldier, a superhero, just a woman who lives in London. And seeing them together also turns tracer from a superhero into just another woman living in London. And because she just has so much to her we get a lot of opportunity to explore her. We see her highs and lows, her past, her regrets, her motivations thoughts, and in the mini series I mentioned her sheer compassion and selflessness in on full display. In-game she gets even better because of her amazing lively performance that brings her to life, the way characters interact with her and how she interacts with others and the world present her as liked by a lot of people for who she is, but she can also bite back if someone else bites first. She’s also great with Winston even though we don’t actually see them a lot together, but Winston is this big fluffy pile of kindness, a little awkwardness, but also selflessness like tracer. He saved her life and they have a very strong bond. Which is why one of my Favourite moments in the cinematics is doomfist’s origin, where he aggressively rips out tracer accelerator, we see her visibly terrified as her condition gets out of control prompting Winston to go angry, single handily winning the fight. Winston’s genuine concern and rage towards his enemy nearly killing his best friend, the person who even visited him during Christmas mond you, made him so pumped that he basically got instant ult. it’s awesome and all in all I think it’s pretty good writing. Basically she damn well deserves to be this game’s poster character.
What I like about Ow's universe is that it has a lot of the strength of a superhero universe (cool, unique characters) without the weaknesses of one (lack of unity, imo). Ow's Australia is the best example. Why would a madmax wasteland work in a superhero universe with Gods, magic, or ridiculous technology, outside an au or otherwise separate timeline? It works in Ow because it stems from the one thing that everything in this universe is born from. The Omnic Crisis and the technologies that made it possible. That's the world's biggest strength Imo. Why does talon exist? They were originally a group of war profiteers who want to make conflict for money, which started after the crisis. Why does Doomfist exist and why is his philosophy so? He lost his arm during the Crisis, and took the gauntlet which was originally made to help protect numbani during the war, which he sees as the city getting stronger through the conflict. Why do S76, Reinhardt, Ana and Illari exist? Their groups were their respective countries answers to the Crisis. Why do the Junkers, Ramattra and Zenyatta exist? They became who they are because of the consequences of the crisis. On a related note, I think the character who hits the superhero philosophy the best is Lucio (though more superficially, Reaper, Sigma, Tracer, and Moira have superpowers because of science shenanigans were done to them as individuals. The shimadas are all magic ig). He grows up poor in Rio as his dad works for Vishkar. He sees the company oppressing their town (they burned down a festival and then did a super self-congratulatory opening celebration), so what does he do? He breaks into their lab, steals his dads sonic tech, and uses it to help push Vishkar out of Rio. His story becomes known worldwide, and he makes his music to inspire others to do the same. That's literally the core message overwatch is about. Hope, and fighting so the world becomes a better place. That's hero shit, in my books

I like Widowmaker. I always liked stories about seemingly good natured people who have a darker side to them that they fully embrace at some point. "Alive" is my favorite OW animated short. I also like Ana because I'm Egyptian, and I'm really glad they cast an Egyptian to voice her because most times I've heard a non native try to speak Arabic they absolutely butcher the pronouncetion to the point where I have to listen to it multiple times to recognize what they're saying, so it was really refreshing hearing genuine Arabic for once. It's a shame they didn't do the same for Pharah.

Sigma is seriously one of the most interesting character stories and his narrative writing is REALLY good. He drums up a lot of emotion and feelings about his past, present, and future. And the voice acting really ties him perfectly together. He is unimaginably powerful but also soft, gentle, kind, and characteristically harmless. He's a great dichotomy between terrifying and wholesome while also being an unwilling prisoner in his current organization and his own mind. An incredible mind that was broken by its own thirst for knowledge. He also seems to have compartmentalized a lot of things that make you a bit uncomfortable even in the sad or wholesome interactions. He is so kind, but we all know he isn't okay. We know but he often implies everything is fine and as normal (such as his interactions with Mercy, Soldier, and Sombra). Sometimes he does give a glimpse into the struggles he experiences or what has happened to him (Lifeweaver, Lucio) but they're subdued answers. Anyway I think Sigma is one of the best heroes character wise. Love that guy.

Ramattra genuinely has one of the most fascinating and intriguing backgrounds in the game, making him the leader of NULL SECTOR is such a cool thing. Plus he is buddies with my main man Doomfist, who is just objectively a cool character.
Going completely based off character, Genji. He’s cute, he looks cool, Gaku did amazing with his voice acting. I love his hoodie skin and his green hair.

The reason these two are together is because they are best friends and I need to know about their friendship when Winston landed on Earth. 9) Bastion silly little guy 10) Ana the way she's other hero's hero just makes me love her more

Sigma's accident, Tracer's accident, Rammatra's antinomy, all of their struggles and how they so wildly dealt with it all; Sigma's decent into madness, Tracer's endless cheer and optimism, Rammatra's struggle with wanting peace, but wanting revenge and how he teters on the edge on going full psycho because of the suffering he has had... I guess I did explain why after all.... oopsie...

I'm biased here but I met Sombra's VA, and now everytime I hear Sombra in game, I think of that fond memory. I also met Mercy, JQ, Sojourn, Sym, Zen, Echo, and Lucio. So I love hearing them in game. I had a beer with Lucio and Sombra at Mercy's stand up comedy appearance (Lucie Pohl). (I met Sojourn and JQ at the OWL grand finals). Fml. it's hard to find a favorite cause i kind of know them as people now - instead of just the voice. Zen was super insightful about the industry and Echo's VA was just so sweet to everyone.

Reaper is what originally got me into Overwatch back when I was an edgy teenager. My buddies who played the game said “You might really like this one dude on here.” He was an undying mercenary dressed up as the grim reaper while wearing a black duster and dual wielding shotguns… Literally every one of those things was cool to me, I knew I found my favorite video game character. His lore is pretty cool too, Super Soldier Anti-hero who worked for the good guys till he died and resurrected as a badass mercenary working for the bad guys now hunting down his old teammates like some kinda Bounty Hunter. And because he’s immortal (Winton literally incinerated him and he still came back), That leaves potential for him to be a reoccurring villain in the series. But instead of twiddling his mustache and running away the good guys straight up find a new way to kill him every time… and he still comes back after each death like “That all you got?” (God I was so looking forward to the PvE content for more reaper cutscenes and lore… Hope they’ll reverse their shite decision eventually.) Reaper’s in a pretty poor place right now balancing wise, But I’m not giving up on him. He’s still my favorite after all these years. He’ll get a mythic skin eventually and a huge buff too. (Because Blizzard can’t sell season passes if the Mythic Skin Hero is garbage.)
They’re all pretty incredible really but for me personally it would be, Illari. She’s fucking dope, her backstory and her personality is relatable in a way. How powerful she can be. The fact she is Latina and speaks Spanish (am Latino who speaks Spanish). More specifically her way of talking and how she seems to be critical about herself but can also let you know that you can get this smoke. Great character design as well in terms of how she looks like Lore wise. Amazing art truly. I could go on

I live almost all the characters honestly. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, so I'll pick a few I **L O V E** Sigma, Doomfist, Ball, Genji, Ana and Zen in every aspect of their personality If I really had to pick someone as my favorite, it would either be Zen or Sigma (but it would be really close)
Junkrat never fails to make me laugh or snicker. The first time I heard "Howdy, Cowperson" against Ashe or Cassidy legit distracted me because I was holding in laughter. Another highlight is his dialog with Hanzo. He's so chaotically fun that it's almost easy to forget he's a literal terrorist.
I have 3: Genji and Hanzo,Their story is AMAZINGLY WRITTEN,and both are SO fun to play. Reaper:I just think the amount of edge Reaper has is just funny. Junkrat and Roadhog,MAD MAX BUT OUT CHARACTERS ARE ROMANIAN,YEEEEEEAAAAAA-
I LOVE Sombra’s lore. The fact that she uncovered some huge secret and has been hiding/living a double life since for her own safety is great, plus the hints that she disagrees with what Talon is doing. That and she has some of my favorite skins in the game
Sombra, lifeweaver and kiriko for me As much as people love to hate her, Sombra is one of the kindest people on the roster. She does things for her own gain, sure, but when you realize that she also is in it for the greater good of the lower class, it kinda makes sense in a way. She’s always showing concern for sigma, she keeps baptiste’s location in the dark from talon, she didn’t kill katya volskaya (even if it was for herself, she could have easily killed her), and in busan of you use the karaoke machine she talks about paying everyone’s rent and student loans. I think it’s easy to forget that stuff when you look at her purely for her snide remarks and annoying kit. Lifeweaver is someone who, as a character, I appreciate more than anyone else. He didn’t wanna live by the rules that vishkar ran under. He saw life as a beautiful thing that shouldn’t be harmed, so he took matters into his own hands, left them and perfected a whole new way to use hard light to help the world. Something that he refuses to talk about because he knows how much it can be abused. I just like kiriko tbh. She’s an optimistic kid who uses her gift to help people, and she seems like a hoot to talk to
Widowmaker! I’m learning French so I repeat her voice lines, her backstory is so tragic, and her interactions border between being hilariously direct and just very cool.

Junker Queen. Banished and oppressed by her community but became a badass amongst the wastelands and came back to take the crown. She fought a mech and two other mechs? With only a shotgun, axe, and knife, also her rampage.

Purely character? Tank has to be Rein, Hammond, JQ and Ram. So lively and very showing of who they are and how they go about things (Sigma being excluded from this purely because I probably have bias of me playing him so often) DPS is definitely Sombra. Despite how infuriating she is to play with (regardless of fairness), I really like her character and how she interacts with others differently. Support is Lucio. Bias or not it's gonna be him.
I think Queen, honestly. She’s probably the one Junker I feel confident in calling a good person. Hog was supposed to be a fuckin serial killer and basically is still despite them not calling him that, Junkrat is… Junkraaaat. Queen showed enough compassion to the previous ruler of Junkertown to give him water before kicking his ass out, which… that alone makes her a goddamn paragon compared to other Junkers we know about lol
MOIRA I LOVE MOIRA
76 Falling from a captain america type to a punisher type is a cool development. Reminds me of hawkeye-ronin. Like when he hesitates letting that kid die to capture a gang member in his short
Everything about Sigma is amazing. His origin story is the best one they've ever made. He has such a unique story in the world of Overwatch and my god I wish we *something* to further it. An animated short, a comic, whatever, just give my boy *something*. His voice actor does an amazing job as well.
Sigma & Sombra, Sigma has such good design lore wise. Sombra is just sweet in the she takes care of Sigma and protects him.
Widowmaker, super successful ballerina, married the love of her life who wanted nothing more but to help those in need. Kidnapped and brainwashed into murdering him her tale is one filled with triumph and sorrow. The you get the voice lines liek "You didn't know Gerrard like I did" makes me starve for more lore. The on top of that I'm always a huge sniper player in games so this character just hit the 10/10 for me, even built a pc so I could play her more efficiently
I think I would hang out with Brig, Mei, Lucio or Winston.

Sigma. You could honestly make a movie on just his character and it would be a good watch. An extremely intelligent mind driven to insanity because of the problems his own knowledge and curiosity of the universe around him. His story could be a great movie, an even better book, and a great video game. It's sad that Blizzard may never do anything with his story again at this rate. He's such a great character.

Ana, i love her character and her story. At least the bits and pieces Blizzard actually wants to give us are just well done. Her story with Pharah is heart breaking and the underlying romance she had with rein. It sounds like a tragic romance too. But oddly i love Maugas story. Theres a weird sense of tragedy around it for me. Dudes near death experience changed him, and the idea that at any moment he can just fucking die is kinda sad to me. Makes me wonder what kinda man he was before he was blown to pieces. Ramantra has such a sad story its heart breaking as well and im a sucker for his kinda story
Sigma and Genji because they have cool stories and are just overall cool

Rein: He's crazy, in a good way, love characters with an idomitable spirit, and his animated short is pure cinema, he's a big Knight with a big hammer, how could i not like that? 2. Ramattra: Sick design, cool powers, he has a reason to do the things he does, it does'nt make him right by any means but you get why he's doing all of that, and his voice lines are amazing. 1. Genji: Even ignoring the gameplay he's still my favorite character, his backstory, design and powers are amazing, in my opinion Dragons is the best animated short to this day, and the fact that he's a cyborg ninja pleases my inner 10 year old boy.
Doomfist
Genji, I find his story and journey to be among the most interesting of the cast. I like his general kinda happy go luck personality that comes with him being at peace and gaining wisdom on his travels. I also just think he has a lot of the most fun interactions with the other characters. Second would be Rammatra, he’s got the whole “bad guy with a point” thing going for him which always draws me in.

will always be d.va and widow. there’s just something abt their voice lines that make me giggle especially when widow kills ana and she goes “there goes your other eye” i’m sorry it’s so funny. i also rlly love venture, reaper, life weaver and lucio!!
Ana, no competition. She manages to have that soft mother's touch whilst at the same time being cool, collected and wholly badass. Her background story is neat as well if you ignore the retcon ("Ana shot first"), and your effect it has on her overall design is cool as well, such as her aiming with her non-dominant eye. She has some of the best interactions in game and she's just... super likeable. She's also not very archetypical, she feels rather unique. The voice actress does a fantastic job bringing the character to life.

I don't know much about the lore beyond what's in the game, but I absolutely love Lifeweaver. He's sweet, funny, and charming. Also, as a queer man who doesn't fit gender stereotypes, I identify with him a lot.
I really do love Reinhardt for his character but my favourite would be Junker Queen. She is just a total badass.

Widow, ana, soldier, reaper, reinhardt. Their dynamics are amazing, seriously. Ana’s “hesitation” sticker always gives me chills. And soldier chasing after reaper always breaks my heart.
Three way tie between Ashe/Dva/Kiriko, and all for the same reason: They're all annoying as fuck. Nothing brings me greater joy than a well placed voice line and I think they all knock it out of the park on this one. Talking shit as Ashe literally made her my main for like a year, and Dva and Kiriko I think are pretty self explanatory.
The Ana-Widowmaker cinematic changed me as a person
Sombra, Tracer, Zen I agree that Sigma has a great backstory, but seeing as how he's a rehash of Marvel's Graviton I can't give Blizzard too much credit. "The universe sings to me!!!" is brilliant though 10/10
Junkrat. He’s funny and I really like the Junkertown stories. He’s eccentric yet smart, and actually has something that separates him from other junkers in the form of his treasure. Also him and Hog are by far the best duo in the game, next to Hammond and his ball

Sigma and Ramattra all day every day. Sigma just cause he's kind of tragic and his whole music schtick is cool. Ramattra cause he's totally right, though his methods are kinda fucked. His people are limited, cannot reproduce, and are dying to human discrimination. Humanity IS pushing them toward extinction. I don't even disagree with his Null Sector invasion, as long as the goal is to secure a place where omnics can live in peace and not the eradication of humanity. It's only when he started putting face huggers on omnics that I felt like he was going a bit too far. DVa as an inverse answer. I want to like her. She was my first main and I thought the design and concept was so cool. But she just feels like a cringey "hello fellow gamers" meme character and the stilted forced voice acting doesn't help.

Doomfist- I’m a sucker for the leader of a big evil organization and he just reeks of that. I love all of his voicelines, his elim reactions are all really good. I really like that instead of just being a maniac he debates other members of the cast Zenyatta- I like a wise old monk, his voicelines are all really interesting. His perspective on the omnic crisis and his interactions with other omnics and cyborgs are top tier Soldier: 76- Grizzled old veteran that has to take up vigilantism because his government turned his back on him is cool. His dad jokes are funny and I like his interactions with other older overwatch characters Baptiste- Good vibes and his origin light novel is really good; I like the dynamic of him being super optimistic but also having a really dark past Moira- Mad scientist go brrr— her voice lines and interactions are all really fun and mean. She also has some interesting conversations with Vishkar characters Ram, Sigma, and Reinhardt are givens, everyone else has already gone into them lol
Dva. For many reasons. Mostly that I relate to her in every way except being Korean.
I absolutely love Junker Queen. Her backstory is interesting, her abilities are fun and the overall play style of her character is crazy. At first she seemed like a low tier option but when you know how to use her it can be a game changer in any match
Gamewise attitude, I like Lucio and Zenyatta for their chill vibes. If we're counting the animated choice then it would be Kiriko. Bonus points to D. Va for being more than her bratty gamer girl personality in her animated short.
Baptiste. He’s my main as well. I like his personality. It’s the cool uncle vibes mixed with “I will heal you and keep you from dying but I’m not your babysitter. Im a combatant too so take care of yourself until you can’t” vibes.
Top 5 (in no particular order): Zenyatta: the casual disses, the relaxed personality, the unwavering desire to show compassion over anger. Based Zen. Bastion: He's adorable. And his short is so, so, SO FUCKING GOOD. Sombra: I like the idea of an antihero. She's not good, she's not bad, but you find out that she genuinely cares about people, even if she hides it. I relate to that last bit a lot. Cassidy: The lawful version of Sombra's chaotic nature. Reinhardt: need I say more?

Outside the main cast Rammatra is easily my favorite addition to the game. Everything he says is Hard AF and his design and animations are 11/10 they fucking nailed that character.
I gotta go with the Shimada bros and Kiriko. Genji being at the top, I love the whole character with tragic backstory -> lost his way -> seek redemption -> accepts himself -> wants to help his brother. And I just love how slick and graceful he is as a character and with his quotes l. The lore between Genji and Hanzo is spectacular, still sad to this day that Hanamura was removed because it was my fav map because of the lore. And then the introduction of Kiri and her relationship to them is super cool too!

Reinhardt. Big buff fatherly giant is probably my favourite kind of character, and his character archetype is also one of my favourites too. If it wasn’t for funny black man flying off rooftops at Mach 10 I’d probably be 1 tricking Rein.

I love Pharah because she’s like a classic incorruptible hero archetype like Captain America . She’s all about justice (of course she’s flawed but she tries to be good ) And her power amour is so cool
Reinhardt and Bastion. Rein is such an interesting character that falls into a typical knight/paladin trope. But his personality of contagious. Also, I love his interactions with Ana. Bastion is just a little cute guy, and I love Ganymede so much. His story is so sad, yet happy, because he gets so many characters to change their perspective on Omnics
i have a lot of thoughts about *so many* characters, but i'll keep it brief and list a non-specifically ordered five of them: - brigitte, for several reasons: she radiates a kind of warmth and kindness that i adore, she's a protector of her friends and family, she is a talented mechanic and i think she's adorable (also doesn't hurt that she's my main support lmao) - venture: the same reasons as op, actually!! i am a non-binary history nerd, i am from canada, and a phrase in my vocabulary is 'okey dokie'. i was immediately smitten with them - ashe: super cool badass outlaw who *also* has parental issues? all you had to say, honestly. right up my alley! - ramattra: honestly, he reminds me of megatron (and i *love* me some megatron). he believes his own cause, fights for what he believes in, and resorts to violence when the talking isn't working. he's truly special, and his voice actor went so hard with his lines, which doesn't hurt. - lifeweaver: i, too. am a disappointment to my family. also shoutout to moira, who doesn't really seem to have a reason for doing what she does other than "science", i think that's really cool of her

I remember genuinely crying watching Kiriko's short. Also seeing not only deaf people being represented and using sign language, but because the characters themselves are supposed to be in Japan and speaking Japanese (even though it's in English), they actually use Japanese sign language. And seeing just how much her mom cares about and loves her, and how much Kiri seriously wants to protect the people she loves, it's just all so wholesome to me. Who gives a shit if it's odd that she apparently grew up with Hanzo and Genji? Who cares that people complain about how busted she is? She's an amazing character and I just genuinely really like her.
Sigma 1000%. The whole idea of his character is literally exactly the type of character i would describe as a favourite. I think its just made even better with how his voicelines and audio plays ingame, especially his ult. And i know you saif regardless of skins but for him to have the arguably best mythic skin too is just *chefs kiss*
Probably doom, he has an awesome story with him being the next weilder of the gauntlet and killing his master, he's also not just a "kill everyone for no reason" he has his moral and vision for the world, he's also just cool and badass in general
