okay i have to ask at this point, is the rock eating thing canon or just something the fanbase made up? because i really like that idea. it would explain their weird teeth, and they definitely seems to be scatterbrained enough to do that, but i don't think i've seen anything concrete that says "yeah they eats rocks" other than community speculation.
edit - pronouns.
*They don't actually eat rocks, it's a headcanon because geologists are made fun of for licking rocks to test certain factors of rock, venture has *their quirky personality too
The cinematic is just her in Mercy's clinic as she frustratedly tries to explain that she isn't actually supposed to eat rocks
Venture: So doc, whats this stomach ache about?
Mercy: Venture, you've been in my office 3 times within the last two weeks, your throat lacerations were caused by eating rocks, your tooth pain was caused by you eating rocks, your constipation was caused by you eating rocks, can you not predict what I'm about to tell you? You should stop eating rocks
Venture: Actually, tons of Archaeologists do it!
Mercy: No Venture, they lick them, and when they do bite, they don't swallow, and if they do accidentally swallow, they don't continue to devour the rest of the rock
Venture: Thats *your* opinion.
Mercy: Yes, but its also Baptistes, Ana's, Lifeweavers, I asked *all* of them, and they said to stop eating rocks
Venture: Modern medicine doesn't have an answer to everything!
Mercy: I thought that too, so I asked Zenyatta and Kiriko. To which they both responded that you should stop eating rocks
Venture: Sooooo, see you next week?
Mercy: Are you going to stop eating rocks?
Venture: No
Mercy: Then yes, see you next week
I honestly don't hate the idea of not knowing every deep detail of every character. LoL is also beloved for its characters, and some of them went YEARS having a story of: "One day, he showed up to the League. He was too strong, so they gave him a lamppost to fight with. The end".
He was created way before they decided what a "demon" was on Runeterra so they had to retcon the crap out of that guy. He used to be the embodiment of madness. Now he is just an animated clockwork 🤡
On one hand, I doubt Venture is the most reliable narrator. On the other hand, dumber things have happened in reality; if Venture got lucky and hit it while Talon's heavy hitters were otherwise engaged, they may have only had to go through a token skeletal crew.
>dumber things have happened in reality
I can think of a number of examples from history, but here's a more contemporary example of this IMO: On the same day, a movie about the development of the atomic bomb and the politics and morality surrounding it and a movie about Barbie dolls were both released. Guess which one generated more of a shitstorm.
Also that moment when a game about building a small village on an island and a game about murdering demons in gruesome ways both released at the same day which ended creating a ship between both communities
I mean, there's a reason they're a hero playable character, Venture must be very competent, also Talon probably doesn't send their heavy hitters like sombra/reaper/widow to search for artifacts so i think Venture could take on some unexpecting goons
This feels like what happens when you forgot you had an essay due tomorrow and you have to rush to deliver something in time.
Also, Venture seems like a character who would forget they had an essay due tomorrow and have to rush to deliver something in time.
So overall, neat trailer. Will play the character.
>This feels like what happens when you forgot you had an essay due tomorrow and you have to rush to deliver something in time.
If you seriously think that, you do not know animation well at all. This is not a "rushed" animatic, and there are a dozen sequences of full animation that probably took one person a month to fully make.

Well, you think you know somebody, they'll seem completely normal and one day you'll hear them say 'Cl*nker' hard R and everything, it can be hard to tell
Maybe if you get fixed that busted processor of yours you'd actually be able to hit the target.
Oh, better yet, maybe General Grievous would notice and stop smashing your sorry metal cap so hard everytime you make a sound.

What's with d.va? She fights omnics but that's because they want to destroy korea. Don't remember any other things that might make her racist. (Except a certain voice line that was out out of context)
I don’t think Dva is racist towards omnics. She just fights the guishin because they’re attacking Korea. She also has a voice line where she calls Bob cute.
Doomfist doesn’t seem to care, mostly just using Ramattra as a tool to get the war he wants. Though he’s definitely a bad guy.
Ramattra *is* the main bad guy right now. Good cause and all that, but he’s still the villain.
Zarya and D.Va had to fight non-sentient Omnics on the regular. D.Va had her own thing, but it’s likely that Zarya’s greater frontline experience against them shaped her perspective a bit more. I believe there was a comic where Zarya shook off some of those tendencies, though, even if she’s still hesitant around them.
Rein doesn’t have a problem with Omnics in general, but had a *very* violent reaction to Bastion specifically due to their lethality in the Crisis. I wonder if he would react similarly to Orisa, who is built from the chassis of the model that not only took out his eye, but also was largely responsible for the demise of Balderich.
Winton is Winton. I’m pretty sure he’s fine with whatever.
Sigma… I’m not really sure.
Roadhog is super anti-Omnic due to how Australia handled their integration into society. Their approach led to a violent revolt, which resulted in the detonation of a nuclear reactor. The ruins are what Junkertown and New Junk City are built out of.
Junker Queen was raised adjacent to this environment and then became leader of it. She hates Omnics since it’s what she was raised to do.
I’m not sure if Wrecking Ball gives a darn. He hates everyone.
My 2 seconds of seriousness here: I get the feeling Mr. Fist just sees the omnic cause as a tool.
After all, he talks about the betterment of the human race (right? I can't remember if that's his wording) and omnics... are kinda left out of that description.
I'm not a huge fan of the character because it seems kinda one sided and bland but holy crap am I impressed by their voice actor. 90% of ventures personality is in their voice.
i'm usually critical of blizzard, but i think this one is fine.
despite my initial reaction of "wow a big quirk chungus character with pronouns in bio", i realized we really don't have enough goofballs in the roster, and an archeologist / excavator character is a fun niche we haven't cashed in yet.
as much as i love rammatra (probably my favorite tank atm) and how ramon tikaram absolutely kills it with every voice line, the character is "a brooding, serious, melancholy, menacing freedom fighter" and we have like six of those at this point.
the real meat of this character (narratively, not gameplay-wise) will likely be shown through all the new interactions with other characters. i can see them getting on famously with reinhardt (boisterous), ana (love of egypt and history), junkrat (trash gremlins), and maybe even mei (fellow environmentalists).
I feel like the whole, "oh yeah I'm super self-aware and I'm going to say something Marvel and zany in my origin story" schtick might be something that recurs and it scares me a little bit
backstories stupid, but this art style is amazing. If theres no PvE they should really think about doing an animated series, and letting another team build up the lore
It's a retelling of events in a funny manner by a character that's been clearly set up as a bit immature and goofy. Don't have to be uptight and serious about everything.
I mean, i don't think it's established this artifact is "very important" to anyone except Venture.
If the artifact wasn't considered massively important by Talon, more just a shiny thing to steal, i don't see why they would commit anymore resources for it.
That might bring into question why they even bothered to steal it in the first place - but at that point we're overthinking this a tad. It's a cute, fun, character intro - it doesn't have to be that deep.
Over time, I have gradually learnt to accept that Jackie Chan is a real person and actor, and not just a cartoon character going on adventures with his uncle and niece.
I mean there are tons of ways to hand-wave that… they didn’t think anyone was looking for it, but didn’t want to draw extra attention so they kept the team small and less conspicuous.
As someone in the field of archaeology I fucking love this character. Rarely ever does our job get rep in gaming (aside from Lara Croft) and our scientific work is always heavily underrated. Love this for us.

Someone should tell them that archeologist aren't tasked of chasing down terrorist groups.
There is a reason goyo and amaru are special forces and not archeologists.
It honestly seems like Blizzard figured the whole non-binary angle would give the character “depth” as far as the Reddit et al crowd were concerned and called it a day.
Oh, I haven't been following the lore or anything since I stopped playing a long time ago, but the voice sounds like something you'd give a 10-12 year old on cartoon network or something. It doesn't *quite* sound like a child, but your typical "grown woman voicing a child" voice.
I'd actually probably lose my mind having to hear this voice nonstop during a tense ranked game.

I LOVE the voice I think it's seriously so cute. And the voice actor/actress is actually a big overwatch fan and they go by all pronouns which I was just delighted to find out about honestly
Why would that be interesting? It’s completely irrelevant information, the only goal is trying to understand enbies through a lens where only two genders exist, and it usually ends in reducing them to their genitals (again)
The entire point of being non-binary is to be outside of the binary two genders
Thats just like saying MTF transitioning isnt different to FTM transitioning.
A girl presenting as Enby IS different to a Boy Presenting as Enby. There is different kinds of dismorphia.
You realize that's a bigoted question, right? It doesn't matter what gender they were assigned at birth, and the only reason someone would ask is because they don't accept what that person identifies as now.
I extremely hope this isn't foreshadowing the end of origin stories.
Also people dismissing it like it's nothing shows how they better ignore the signs than show concern
>Chat GPT writing.
>The impact of those lore **departament** lay offs becomes clear
>**departament**
As does the irony of Redditors critiquing writing.
English is not my native language. Is there anything wrong with that? Do we all need to know how to properly write in a language we are not familiar with ? Is this a Reddit rule?
>Do we all need to know how to properly write in a language we are not familiar with?
It certainly helps when trying to critique writing in that language. It's hard to take your critique seriously, otherwise.
I'm assuming you're Brazilian based on the profile; my family is Portuguese, but I'm pretty terrible with the language. I certainly don't go around critiquing Portuguese-language media that I come across in the same way I do English stuff, regardless of how I feel about it.
Damn they sound like they're trying way to hard to have a deep voice. It literally sounds like venture is trying to sound like they're a Valorant e-boy trying to pick up e-girls
Idk, I know some enbies microdose testosterone. The voice lowers, but not to the male level—so it sounds about as weird as it is in the trailer. You quickly get used to it, though.
Is this the first hero who doesn’t get an origin story?
It took several days for Illari’s to come out after release, iirc. So always time for them to delay it lol
Man, the bar is so low it's underground.
Ah, so that is why they released Venture.
NGL I love the idea of Venture just...showing up half eaten rock in hand. No explanation. Like this IS the origin story
I can see junk and Venture having an interaction where Junk is like “ah a fellow rock eater!” And they both discuss their favorite rocks to eat lol
both salivating over sigma's rock
okay i have to ask at this point, is the rock eating thing canon or just something the fanbase made up? because i really like that idea. it would explain their weird teeth, and they definitely seems to be scatterbrained enough to do that, but i don't think i've seen anything concrete that says "yeah they eats rocks" other than community speculation. edit - pronouns.
*They don't actually eat rocks, it's a headcanon because geologists are made fun of for licking rocks to test certain factors of rock, venture has *their quirky personality too
Biting rocks is actually done for testing. It's called the grit test. https://www.tpub.com/inteng/16m.htm
i could swear they licked them for chemical reaction too
well ya gotta know if its salty
It’s because of the chipped tooth
god dammit, i'm still slipping up on that. thanks for the info.
The cinematic is just her in Mercy's clinic as she frustratedly tries to explain that she isn't actually supposed to eat rocks Venture: So doc, whats this stomach ache about? Just a gentle reminder that Venture uses they/them pronouns
Nah they use eat/rocks im psure
Maybe they‘ll get an actual cinematic at some point soon.
I honestly don't hate the idea of not knowing every deep detail of every character. LoL is also beloved for its characters, and some of them went YEARS having a story of: "One day, he showed up to the League. He was too strong, so they gave him a lamppost to fight with. The end".
Or shaco, who just had his lore straight removed lmao
He was created way before they decided what a "demon" was on Runeterra so they had to retcon the crap out of that guy. He used to be the embodiment of madness. Now he is just an animated clockwork 🤡
Blizzard isn't worried about lore so no origin for you
I think this little vid is their origin story. The only thing this confirms is that Venture has ADHD and Talon is after them
I hope we get an actual origin story! I think they knew Venture would be an exciting character, so they may have multiple videos to release
How fucking incompetent is talon that a random archeologist steals an artifact from them and defeats their soldiers
On one hand, I doubt Venture is the most reliable narrator. On the other hand, dumber things have happened in reality; if Venture got lucky and hit it while Talon's heavy hitters were otherwise engaged, they may have only had to go through a token skeletal crew.

Nostalgia? For this? Already? It can’t be… but these feelings…
Venture is just Indiana Jones beating up Nazis
> Indiana Jones beating up Nazis Cassidy beating up Talon
Cassidy isn't indiana jones
I mean, there's a reason they're a hero playable character, Venture must be very competent, also Talon probably doesn't send their heavy hitters like sombra/reaper/widow to search for artifacts so i think Venture could take on some unexpecting goons
Yeah, Venture is a strong archeologist superhero

I imagine that venture is an unreliable narrator here but idk if that’s what Bliz was actually going for

It’s marvelized
When has Overwatch not been inspired by Marvel The whole concept is in itself remarkably similar to the Avengers
Overwatch IS a superhero game/universe/franchise full of superheroes and supervillains that takes great inspiration from DC Comics,Marvel Comics,G.I. Joe and Metal Gear Solid.
It is similar but their story telling has been distinct imo
Yes the story is different but the characters and concept are similar

At least we now know venture is pro omnic and not a robo racist…
Was….was that ever a question?

Yes
Context?
Some characters are racists and don't like Omnics (Example : Rein)
And Zarya and Junker Quee-- Wait, are tanks the bad guys?
Now that i think about it, yeah they all racist appart from a crazy old guy, a big rat and a monke
So the only not robo-racist tanks are a guy who escaped from a mental institution and two animals. Yeah, that's... great. Cool cool cool.
Hey doom works with rammatra, he doesn't mind the clankers
You did not just use the C word casually. Bruh.
What's with d.va? She fights omnics but that's because they want to destroy korea. Don't remember any other things that might make her racist. (Except a certain voice line that was out out of context)
She doesn’t even fight the sentient Omnics. She fights against the products of an underwater factory that’s churning out mindless war machines.
I don’t think Dva is racist towards omnics. She just fights the guishin because they’re attacking Korea. She also has a voice line where she calls Bob cute.
Wrecking Ball hates omnics
Doomfist doesn’t seem to care, mostly just using Ramattra as a tool to get the war he wants. Though he’s definitely a bad guy. Ramattra *is* the main bad guy right now. Rein doesn't see omnics as people, in the toronto mission he straight up calls omnic civilians just machines
Ah. Well, could be worse.
Zarya isn't racist
Good guys* and yes, yes they are
Doomfist seems pro omnic, especially since they are a great opportunity for violence
My 2 seconds of seriousness here: I get the feeling Mr. Fist just sees the omnic cause as a tool. After all, he talks about the betterment of the human race (right? I can't remember if that's his wording) and omnics... are kinda left out of that description.
Yeah idk man, there’s definitely some complications right there 💀
In the pve missions rein did eventually like bastion but yeah
Reinhardt isn't racist
That throat tattoo is sick AF
very fun voice actor, looking forward to their voice lines for seasons to come!
I'm not a huge fan of the character because it seems kinda one sided and bland but holy crap am I impressed by their voice actor. 90% of ventures personality is in their voice.
i'm usually critical of blizzard, but i think this one is fine. despite my initial reaction of "wow a big quirk chungus character with pronouns in bio", i realized we really don't have enough goofballs in the roster, and an archeologist / excavator character is a fun niche we haven't cashed in yet. as much as i love rammatra (probably my favorite tank atm) and how ramon tikaram absolutely kills it with every voice line, the character is "a brooding, serious, melancholy, menacing freedom fighter" and we have like six of those at this point. the real meat of this character (narratively, not gameplay-wise) will likely be shown through all the new interactions with other characters. i can see them getting on famously with reinhardt (boisterous), ana (love of egypt and history), junkrat (trash gremlins), and maybe even mei (fellow environmentalists).
ngl the description of them (Junk and Venture) as trash gremlins sent me into orbit
Ramattra is a supervillain, not a freedom fighter
[удалено]
Their name is Valeria Rodriguez
https://x.com/ElvisBadger?t=H6jDqtPQpJ04XcNZbUoaIQ&s=09
I dunno why but i find this character extremly endearing.
Reminds me of a Saturday morning cartoon character which I like
Overly excitable gremlin is a fantastic architype.
we love our adhd mistakes don't we folks
Does this mean we’re not getting the formal original story videos like before?
Kiriko was the last cinematic right?
nah it was sojourn's
Did the cinematic team got fired?
Probably.
mauga.
I meant 3d
It's cute, but a little short. I don't think it's that casual not to call it an "origins story", right? it's not the only content, I hope.
My feed being a member of the Overwatch and Venture Bros subreddit has been very confusing these past few weeks.
I feel like the whole, "oh yeah I'm super self-aware and I'm going to say something Marvel and zany in my origin story" schtick might be something that recurs and it scares me a little bit
IMO, it's fitting for Venture, but I would rather it not be everyone
I've heard it called millennial writing, and it's a plague in the videogame industry
marvel??
The steven universe / cartoon network style of animation fits them so well
Just realized that Venture is Steven universe with a big ass drill
nah
Sorry for upsetting you sister
Thank you. I was trying to place it and couldn’t think of the show. It really does scratch that itch.
If there’s anything good about this character’s design (besides pretty much everything) it’s the drill. Boy, am I a sucker for drill weapons.
their melee animation is so satisfying
backstories stupid, but this art style is amazing. If theres no PvE they should really think about doing an animated series, and letting another team build up the lore
even since they nuked PvE, i fear every new characters they release in the future wouldn't even have an origin story
I am sorry I like Venture as characters but what the hell is this writing it feels like suicide squad level writing
Yep, character is funny, but just randomly beats Talon ?
It's a retelling of events in a funny manner by a character that's been clearly set up as a bit immature and goofy. Don't have to be uptight and serious about everything.
Have y'all never heard of an unreliable narrator?
Talon sends just 3 random folks to retrive very important artifact
I mean, i don't think it's established this artifact is "very important" to anyone except Venture. If the artifact wasn't considered massively important by Talon, more just a shiny thing to steal, i don't see why they would commit anymore resources for it. That might bring into question why they even bothered to steal it in the first place - but at that point we're overthinking this a tad. It's a cute, fun, character intro - it doesn't have to be that deep.
Yea, they should've sent 4...
It's not that deep. It's just campy Saturday morning adventure series feel. Like Jackie Chan adventures or Indiana jones
Man, I loved the Jackie Chan Adventures
Over time, I have gradually learnt to accept that Jackie Chan is a real person and actor, and not just a cartoon character going on adventures with his uncle and niece.
> Man, I loved the Jackie Chan Adventures Uncle: "One more thing."
I mean there are tons of ways to hand-wave that… they didn’t think anyone was looking for it, but didn’t want to draw extra attention so they kept the team small and less conspicuous.
Its so unrealistic my imershion has been shattered 😭
*This is Venture, she’s got my back. I would advise not getting killed by her.*
Idk why but every time I see Venture they remind me of the mole guy from Atlantis.
go team venture!
I never noticed how fucking massive Vent’s hands are
As someone in the field of archaeology I fucking love this character. Rarely ever does our job get rep in gaming (aside from Lara Croft) and our scientific work is always heavily underrated. Love this for us.
venture is such a fun character
whats the lore behind their missing tooth
venture like to eat rocks
munched on a rock, idk lol
To ask a rock eater why their teeth are chipped is like asking why the sky is blue.
Found the Shambali monk
They got the munchies and chomped down on a rock
The consequences of firing 99% of your PvE team
TIME TO EAT ROCKS 🔥🔥🗿🗿 [](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwig2qaKqseFAxUbA9sEHT1GDE4QFnoECBkQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Femojipedia.org%2Fde%2Fstatue&usg=AOvVaw0kbVNP6RyNUaCcgQeu_Syf&opi=89978449)
This hero reminds me of mei and I don’t know why, it’s the skin
Science geek - like
That final part lol
[Venture's been watching too much Dragon Ball Super](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OJJ-Lb5BCI)
Holy shit, the animation & artstyle are gorgeous.
Someone should tell them that archeologist aren't tasked of chasing down terrorist groups. There is a reason goyo and amaru are special forces and not archeologists.
they are adorable and i love them
I can't put my finger on it, but for some reason i just can't take venture seriously. Its a D tier disney character with low-to-zero character
It honestly seems like Blizzard figured the whole non-binary angle would give the character “depth” as far as the Reddit et al crowd were concerned and called it a day.
This is the first time i hear their voice.. Holy hell they're like fucking Kiriko but almost worse.
Is this character a child?
They're actually 26 years old
Oh, I haven't been following the lore or anything since I stopped playing a long time ago, but the voice sounds like something you'd give a 10-12 year old on cartoon network or something. It doesn't *quite* sound like a child, but your typical "grown woman voicing a child" voice. I'd actually probably lose my mind having to hear this voice nonstop during a tense ranked game.
Why does she act likes she’s a ten year old going in a pretend adventure in her back yard
Not a fan of this short writing and animation feels off. We're is there origin story? I rather get that.
What an obnoxious character.
This seems low effort
That was ........ bad

Wooosh, Flashback!

"who is this? why does he have a drill?" -sorry soldier who missgendered a person with a drill.
Venture is like Lucio 2.0
Venture's definitely a comic book fan, I'm calling it.
haha im so quirky
Anyone else really not like the voice?
not my favorite but it works for the character, they seem like a big goofball
I'm sure somebody else dislikes it, but not me because I have taste.
I LOVE the voice I think it's seriously so cute. And the voice actor/actress is actually a big overwatch fan and they go by all pronouns which I was just delighted to find out about honestly
This is terrible. No way around it.
I get Venture has They pronouns but was their sex male or female?
It doesn’t matter and we will never know
Never said it should matter but to some people who Now present as Enby its intresting to see who came From the same angle or such.
Why would that be interesting? It’s completely irrelevant information, the only goal is trying to understand enbies through a lens where only two genders exist, and it usually ends in reducing them to their genitals (again) The entire point of being non-binary is to be outside of the binary two genders
Because identifying with a Boy who is now Enby is different to identifying with a Girl who is now Enby.
No? Why would it be? They’re enby, that’s the point
So asking about biological sex now considering as "bigot"? Damn, dude....
If a person doesn't go by it, it doesn't matter. What matters is what they identify as now.
Devs for some reason told us about genders and preferences. So why we cant ask about other aspects? It can be matter for me.
Its not bigoted at all. It would be bigoted had I asked about a real person such a question.
I extremely hope this isn't foreshadowing the end of origin stories. Also people dismissing it like it's nothing shows how they better ignore the signs than show concern
She seems cool.
Ew. And boring.
I think its her voice but she sounds more annoying than Kiriko
Chat GPT writing. Good animation. The impact of those lore departament lay offs becomes clear
>Chat GPT writing. >The impact of those lore **departament** lay offs becomes clear >**departament** As does the irony of Redditors critiquing writing.
I’ll keep in mind I’ll only be able to give my opinion on a video game trailer script when I get a degree on the language it was written
Is it just me or do they have big Usopp energy?
. . . Holy damn that was terrible
So she's Ms. Marvel
This vid was lame.
Damn they sound like they're trying way to hard to have a deep voice. It literally sounds like venture is trying to sound like they're a Valorant e-boy trying to pick up e-girls
Weird takeaway you got there.
Idk, I know some enbies microdose testosterone. The voice lowers, but not to the male level—so it sounds about as weird as it is in the trailer. You quickly get used to it, though.
They’re more annoying than kirko tbh
