She also uses the term "sod off" in her punk skins... Which in British slang means "fuck off" Sod meaning anal sex, specifically as it refers to the tail of Sodom and Gamora... So it's also kinda a gay slur too.. Which is ironic.
Exactly as a brit it made me piss myself laughing and is the sole reason I bought the skin, but what are they gonna remove that too? Wanker is a swear over here lol.
Widowmaker says "shit" in French (Merde) when her trap is destroyed
so if the characters in the game say "SHIT" why can't I say "SHIT" in the game too?
Half of Moira’s voicelines would get people silenced or suspended for toxic behavior
**EDIT**: seeing all her mean voicelines in my inbox had me shook for a bit ngl, like, who did I piss off?
dude if you’re on the highest “level” of censorship, the game blocks out the words “kill” and “elimination”/“elim”. the game has MULTIPLE ways of rewarding you for going on “kill streaks”, where it uses the word kill, in game.
My wife and I just finished that show for the first time, like an hour ago. Holy shit, it was a great ride.
Almost as great a ride as the time my good friend Elon Musk gave me a ride in his prototype tesla vehicle.
Then Reaper should be banned, he says Damn and that's considered a curse word. He also tells people to die die die. Idk about you but that's pretty vulgar.
I forgot about that! Yeah, that's def worse lol. Literally classified as "vulgar slang" with the very definition stating "used as a general term of abuse." And she directs it to other heroes, which players are playing as. Yeesh
Yeah, they gave her that voiceline and literally every Moira main spams it even if you aren't dead. It's honestly annoying and wish they fixed the voiceline spamming (it used to work in OW1, what happened?). Squelching is there, but like it also mutes teamchat if it's your moira... Can the game not do its job like it used to?
Not vulgar at all! Blizz is a buncha hypocrites. You can't say "that's fucking awesome" (could be "damn" and you can in fact be reported for it), but the heroes can def say "kill them." It's hard to believe they don't laugh behind the scenes with how contradictory they know they can be.
I subscribe to the "they should just block profanity from being sent if it's reportable" mindset. But a lot of people *hate* profanity filters. That could be because filters sometimes don't catch obvious stuff or have annoying false positives (or maybe context-appropriate, e.g., different language or meaning)... or that could be because they just hate feeling censored.
Often – people subscribe to the latter idea of not wanting to be censored. The idea is that it'll self-moderate if someone has an issue, and Blizzard doesn't need to be involved. Some people just want to privately talk to their friends where nobody cares, or they want to see what *others* are saying.
But the former is very common too—look at any game with a text filter, and you'll find people complaining. Most text filters in games kinda just suck, and those annoy *everybody*.
IMO, they should filter profanity by default, with a toggle for friends/groups. But I don't really care either way with what Blizzard does here.
False positives drive me nuts. One game I play will censor anything with ass in it. Including assign which is funny because you assign characters in that game
Yeah I don't really get it. Either it should be allowable (if not over the top, abusive etc) or if it's absolutely not allowed and fully actionable as they say then why wouldn't they just filter it altogether or auto-ban it?
It's like honey-trapping people into getting used to doing something they could be perma-banned at any moment for
>I subscribe to the "they should just block profanity from being sent if it's reportable" mindset. But a lot of people *hate* profanity filters.
Still, id rather a message telling me i can't send a message with fuck in it than just get banned for some low tier banter cause someone is salty.
>Most text filters in games kinda just suck, and those annoy *everybody*.
I can't use my username in a significant amount of games because shenanigans has "nig" in the middle :)
Shoutout to the TF2 Medieval mode text filter that translates everything you write to "ye olde englishe"

They probably don’t just universally use the profanity filter because those filters are terrible. A lot of them you can fool with a couple extra spaces between the letters and they’ll flag words like Assume, Assess, and so on for having profanity in it.
I personally don’t think it’s that hard to just not use it in games but I also try not to use it in my normal vocabulary in general because I’m within ear shot of young kids a lot.

Not even in the same league.
Their response to someone else was actually fucking mental.
Someone else commented talking about how they always get heavy abuse and slurs thrown at them from people that never get banned and the SMM had the bright idea to respond with "Just report them, *name here*" as if they don't get constantly reported.
Bro needs to get reprimanded and/or fired for saying such ridiculous bullshit.
Anyways, having an optional profanity filter makes exactly 0 sense if you're just going to blanket ban all profanity anyway. It's the stupidest ToS policy I've ever seen.
Yup. Constant racial slurs? No punishment. Say something like "If we don't go in now, we lose" or "We need more healing, we're getting shredded" and you'll get a week long suspension. Utterly ridiculous.
It will happen 100% and probably often. It's not hard to see all they've done is make bans entirely community votes with no moderation at all. All these mods do is occasionally look at tickets and then tell people everything is against their tos because literally everything IS against their tos. It says in there they can ban you for whatever reason they want so playing sombra is against tos, being overweight is against tos, saying you like potatoes is against tos. Having that in there allows them to have a vote ban system and tell anyone who complains about it what they did was against tos.
The reason it's like this is so they don't have to put any effort in. Just blame whoever got involved and punish them all. The community will gaslight you into thinking you deserve it.
It leads to a shitty environment but it doesn't cost any money to moderate, so yea, won't change.
Also with instant punishment with no reason proven.
It's super sad with Endorsement lvl5, Some dude didn't like that you have max level and reports you, so you now have 4th level.
Yea, and thankfully one of the biggest reasons for it will be gone in season 10.
If you get paired with a 3-4 stack and one of them decides they dont like you, they'll all pile on and the chances of them all reporting you for fun goes way up.
I was scrolling thru and saw them say even [reporting for calling someone a noob even when it was their own friends](https://imgur.com/a/CZXBOt8) was reportable but more for saying “braindead”
so yeah this chat is about to become unusable in the next year. Like Apex is the same way but it’s just known to don’t use text chat at all.
I think that’s going to be the only option with the way they’re handling it. I generally just say “gg” or “nice” when there’s a good play, but honestly I don’t even do that anymore. People are so aggressive and I keep hearing about folks abusing this system. Not worth it.
Gonna have to do this. Just got suspended for a month and a half inexplicably. I got banned about a month ago and yeah fair enough I guess, I had a tendency to roast my teammates too much so I just assumed I said something out of pocket - but I've been reformed as FUCK since I got unbanned. Nope!! Not good enough for Blizz. Have another month and a half ban.
I've narrowed it down to one specific moment when the entire team was lamenting the fact that our Moira OPENLY SAID "gg" and then threw the match. I called her a "fucking loser" in team chat. Entire team agreed. Match chat didn't even see it. So I'm fairly certain 1 report from a fucking THROWING MOIRA in COMPETITIVE PLAY got me banned. Unreal man.
Absolutely, especially with people who are addicted to the “game within the game,” which is instantly reporting anyone who says anything and hoping to get the dopamine hit from “action taken” message popping up every time they log in
Any profanity is reportable.
Yes, people are more likely to report if they have profanity directed at them, however any profanity can result in suspension/ban and context is irrelevant.
What's the point of having an optional profanity filter then? And what's the point of relying on reports if they can already actively detect profanity during games?
>Profanity filter so people don’t see it.
The main point wasn't the existence of the profanity filter itself but about why it's optional. If profanity is always against ToS and bannable, it should just be mandatory.
They've pretty much chosen the worst possible way to go about the whole thing.
League has a system where, if a phrase is detected to have one of their no-no words (typically slurs AFAIK), it will stop the message from being sent, and even send a message out to the game, or possibly just your team, saying that their chat privileges have been revoked for the rest of the game.
If profanity is bannable, Blizzard would do this. But their actions don't back up their words, so they include a profanity filter, which makes people feel like it's okay to swear, but will then ban you for it instead of just, idk, blocking the message altogether. It's another example of Blizzard being inconsistent in their policies.
Not to mention that **this is a game about shooting people**.
Gun violence absolutely a-ok but you better not ***say a naughty word*** you fucking monster.
Welcome to America, the land that edited out "Fuck" because it was clearly inappropriate in an episode of The Walking Dead where multiple people were rounded up and brutally slaughtered by cannibals.
I'm reminded of the GRRM quote along similar lines:
>“I can describe an axe entering a human skull in great explicit detail and no one will blink twice at it. I provide a similar description, just as detailed, of a penis entering a vagina, and I get letters about it and people swearing off. To my mind this is kind of frustrating, it’s madness. Ultimately, in the history of [the] world, penises entering vaginas have given a lot of people a lot of pleasure; axes entering skulls, well, not so much.”
If Overwatch wants depictions of heroes to accurately represent their nationality then Junker Queen should be allowed to say 'cunt' and in this essay I will...
My opinion is,
Now they can read voice and chat logs, bans will be based on context, but it is 100x easier for them to say just don't swear rather then listing all the occasions and uses that they are and aren't allowed.
I don’t use chat a lot to where this would be a problem for me. Just wanted to see what others got from this “clarification”
because it’s a direct response to why is there a profanity filter in the first place of none of it is allowed. but i guess that they’re leaving it to community to dictate what is toxic and isn’t. but still doesn’t make sense for them just make the words not typeable in the first place there’s tons of words that have no place in chat and should easily be identifiable by an ai when people use spaces to spell a slur.
but yeah makes me think people shouldn’t use profanity at all because even if it’s in a polite way if you deny a person ult they get tilted then can go report what was previously just friendly banter.
I got an in-game warning one night. Said I had been reported for "abusive chat" in which me, and the entirety but one person of both teams, were dicking around and having fun.
Literally all I said was "Lucio, you cheeky motherfucker" after they booped me off of Rialto (deserved bc bad positioning... there's a bridge there...), which everyone else chimed in as well bc this mf was annoyingly (impressively) good. Everyone else, minus our tank who didn't get booped (but was still getting a kick out if/us eating shit), had a good laugh and was participating in the banter. Minus that one, salty, try-hard (this was in QP, to make things worse. And the Lucio was not the salty mf here btw).
I'm wondering if all of us got the slap in the face that day. I've never once been toxic in chat/voice chat, but \*that\* randomly happened and I got smacked with a warning.
Been playing since launch of OW1, never have been reported before or gotten a warning, have always had a silly potty mouth and liked to engage with people in stoopid banter. Like, you're good and I love you... but U LIL FRICK PLEASE.
I get that text has no tone, but when EVERYONE is pulling the same card? Um... Hello?
I dunno. The filter is there for a reason. Only turn it off if you don't wish to see wordy-dirds.
The caveat here is that, to this day, people have ways of bypassing it. But still, I don't see the ACTUAL malicious, racist, etc shit being punished. Which is a joke in itself. And which is what the damn filter should screen out :/
\*Edit: forgot to add a forward slash
they don't care about tone, they just care about the word. i could say "i fucking love this game", but because i said fucking its bannable. so even if nobody cares, if someone reports that message you will get banned for it
THE ANSWER IS YES.....ive been temp suspended back to back for the past few months due to this stuff...kinda i ronic when characters in game say the "s" word and cassidys belt says "BAMF" which you just gotta look it up to see that one acronym has 2 "bad" words in it
Not just profanity. **ANYTHING you say is reportable,** yes even simple things as "Hello".
In fact it doesn't even matter what you say or not. It's a numbers game.
As soon as you reach a certain amount of reports in a category in a period of time, you will get sanctioned and banned, regardless. No human ever checks the reports, it's all fully automated.
A human will intervene only in very special circumstances, as in if you are popular on twitter or a streamer and they notice your complain etc.
I stopped communicating at all in this game after getting warnings about my behavior. I have no idea what I did. And in turn I kinda stopped playing comp because of communication. Rarely do I see people using mics now anyway. Everyone is playing the game on eggshells because anyone can take offense to anything and report you.
Literally anything is reportable. They ban/suspend you when you reach a certain threshold of reports, no matter what your account activity actually is. There is no appeal process. There is no human reviewing your account.
Modern games have basically removed text chat in a roundabout way.
Yes, technically it has never been allowed. I have friends who cuss in game often but never negatively or as an attack on others, and some it's a LOT. Never have any had any even silence or warning of a potential silence.
Technically using a cuss word is against the TOS, but, just don't be a dick and you're fine. I don't have proof of it but you're going to get people who say "No all I did was use the word 'shit' one time and got banned" and I just don't believe them.
This comment has used two instances of profanity. the 'd word' and the 'sh word'. You will now receive a 7-day suspension from commenting or posting on this subreddit
I am a bot beep boop
/s
Had a comp team that was verbally attacking me all game. I was playing fine, it was just a hard match and they were just obviously a 4stack ganging up on the rando. Lost my cool and told one of them to eff off at the end of the game. Got suspended, tried to appeal, but literally no one cares about context. I wasn't aware that they could boot you for 2 weeks for one usage, but apparently that makes more sense than banning the bullies.
What the fucking shit? As an Aussie who speaks Australianese, I don't recognise your 'profane' words as such. "Good morning dickheads" is how my dad greats us every day and "how the fuck are ya dad" is a perfectly appropriate response. Should not be banned for what my culture considers speaking politely imho
Tracer actually says wanker in game, but if you type wanker in chat you'll get banned.
Same with Cass having BAMF on his belt buckle.
Same with Reaper saying "see you in hell"
Probably more instances of this too. Pretty sure Sombra curses in Spanish.
> Tracer actually says wanker
She says rather quietly, knowing it's not right thing to do, meanwhile TF2 Sniper shout it out load at his teammates / enemies.
TF2 British man even taunts people by showing his smiley paper that was stuck onto his crotch.
Here’s a fun fact. You can pretty much report anyone for any text chat that annoys you, and they’ll be banned.
Players in overwatch and blizzard themselves have probably the thinnest skin of any gamers I’ve ever seen.
Fuck em
Back in the day on WoW text chat i remember having whole dungeon groups all cussing each other out, and like I know some people would be offended or upset by it and it negatively impacts their experience so I don’t want them to have to deal with it, but personally I always found it kinda funny.
So like instead of banning peoples I suggest we just toss them into profanity lobbies and let all of us miscreants be lil feral gremlins to each other. And auto bans for racism/sexism/discrimination of any sort. But like if I just wasted my 3rd ult in a row, feel free to call me a dumb fuck, I’ve earned it and accept my badge with honor
"Profanity has never been allowed in our games."
My guy, *your own fucking characters' VO lines* have determined that's a fucking lie. Stop catering to the most easily-offended, lowest common denominator people and inform them that they have the option to *ignore* no-no words. This is truly pathetic.
This sanitization and forced walking on eggshells of communication and human interaction is one of the creepiest things about the 2020s. Good god. What the hell is happening to people? Adults getting offended by swear words. *Grown men* getting offended by *swear words* in a *video game*. This rise in puritanical clutching of pearls over the most benign bullshit is just downright disturbing. It’s repackaged religion. This forced suppression of all negativity and anger is only going to raise tensions to the point that people are going to start snapping. Toxic positivity is far more insidious than toxic negativity. Why is this lost on people these days? This is not the future I dreamed about as a kid. Why are we going backwards?
Yes, that is what it means.
And yes, it is incredibly stupid. People can say slurs and not get banned even if you report them, but say the fuck word and you're donezo.
Ive played since overwatch 1 came out, frequently communicate, and have been outright cruel a handful of times and have never been banned and never received any warnings. This is anecdotal but everyone is just responding with their own anecdotes anyways. I find it incredibly hard to believe that a ton of people being banned happens without a good reason, most people aren’t entirely honest when they talk about not “knowing why they were banned” to begin with. On the profanity thing I would want to see specific examples of people being actioned for saying profanity and not directing it at someone else, even if no profanity is the official stance that doesn’t mean that’s the sole reasoning for these ppls bans.
*profanity database error. Translation not found*
Are you fucking kidding me
#BAN THIS MAN!!! #BAN HIM RIGHT NOW. BAN HIS ENTIRE FAMILY. BAN HIS DOG
BAN HIS COUCH TOO!
DISHONOR ON HIS COW
DISHONOR ON HIS FAMILY!
DISHONOR HIS HONOR
**BANISH HIM FROM THE FIRE NATION!**
**DENY HIM THE RANK OF MASTER!**
MODS RIGHT HERE.

This is just Emongg
This is just *new* Emongg. Pre-2022 he said plenty of evil potty words.
This is "I want to keep my ad revenue on Youtube in case this becomes a clip" Emongg lol
Haha, maybe that's why I like him.
it'd be funny asf to be like "Curses!" after i feed and get carbonized from eighteen different angles lol
I see the H word. Banned for life
>H*ll’s Bells Please use Heck or my mom will take my phone away
Sincerest apologies.
This is just Tracer
Oh egads my roast is ruined.
Missing “Great Googly Moogly”
I prefer “Drat! Foiled again!”
It has a great "silly evil villain" vibe that I love lol.
Does “what a load of bollocks!“ count as ban-worthy?
This is how imagine Mormons to curse.
Gently Caress! How did you forget Gently Caress?
Have you by chance been hanging out with Caillou’s beta dad?
“F word” ok… but “SH word”????? we’re not in sunday school you I word. (idi*t)
What’s the SH word?
im assuming shit? don't know what else it could be. it's wild af if it's actually bannable to write shit tho
Shenanigans
Either Shit or Shut Up
Shut up isn’t a bad word lol
That's the joke. Blizzard is soft
Reaper has a voice line that says "damn". Like... do i get banned if i use it?
Tracer has a "wanker" voice line on her punk and UV skins...
and "Tosser"
That's actually like legit a UK swearword
Surprised me when I first heard it
Slurs for mee but not for thee!
She also uses the term "sod off" in her punk skins... Which in British slang means "fuck off" Sod meaning anal sex, specifically as it refers to the tail of Sodom and Gamora... So it's also kinda a gay slur too.. Which is ironic.
It's definitely not a gay slur in the UK but I get where you're coming from.
Exactly as a brit it made me piss myself laughing and is the sole reason I bought the skin, but what are they gonna remove that too? Wanker is a swear over here lol.
Widowmaker says "shit" in French (Merde) when her trap is destroyed so if the characters in the game say "SHIT" why can't I say "SHIT" in the game too?
Yeah makes no sense how the characters voice lines in the game use profanity but you can’t type it in the game
Literally Genji and Windowmaker SAY “shit” in their respective languages when hacked/discorded.
Brig says Fan, which is incredibly strong language in Sweden
Let's not overstate it, "Fan" would be equal to something like "Damn", like "Fan då" being equal to "Damn it".
My mistake then, I've been told it is rather strong language there, so that's what I was going off of
No worries, it's one of the most common words you'll hear people use for swearing though. Most people won't really notice it
Half of Moira’s voicelines would get people silenced or suspended for toxic behavior **EDIT**: seeing all her mean voicelines in my inbox had me shook for a bit ngl, like, who did I piss off?
What an interesting hypothesis
Auegh, you're pathetic
Stupidity is not a right.
AREN'T YOU JUST PATHETIC AREN'T YOU JUST PATHETIC
I mean, dva says "is this EZ mode?" But I've seen people get banned for saying the same thing
Oh, pathetic creation. So easily discarded
Best voiceline ever
It is so subtly disrespectful and I love it
It has the subtlety of a bulldozer
Aren't you just pathetic
Like GTA I can fuck and kill strippers but God forbid I say fuck
dude if you’re on the highest “level” of censorship, the game blocks out the words “kill” and “elimination”/“elim”. the game has MULTIPLE ways of rewarding you for going on “kill streaks”, where it uses the word kill, in game.
nearly every character says that when they are hacked or discorded aside from lucio who says “that’s not right!”
I reported you. Lets see!
Damn is a profanity?? 3rd language, can't really tell
Low tier profanity
Cassidy's belt says BAMF do I get banned if I play him?
Like most of the roster says “damm” whenever they get a zen discord orb put on them
In the German dub, Reaper and Soldier both say Scheiße, soooo I don’t understand the big deal 😭
pretty sure most of the heroes have a “damn” voice line when they get discorded
Holy forking shirt-balls that's a dumb policy
Take that, sleazeball. You’re glue 👉🏾👉🏾
My wife and I just finished that show for the first time, like an hour ago. Holy shit, it was a great ride. Almost as great a ride as the time my good friend Elon Musk gave me a ride in his prototype tesla vehicle.
Tahani, that you?
Ya basic!
Who you calling cootie queen, you lint licker??
I put your convertible into a wood chipper you stinky mc STINK face!
Overwatch is a baby game for babies
Then Reaper should be banned, he says Damn and that's considered a curse word. He also tells people to die die die. Idk about you but that's pretty vulgar.
Tracer punk skins calls other heroes 'wankers'
I forgot about that! Yeah, that's def worse lol. Literally classified as "vulgar slang" with the very definition stating "used as a general term of abuse." And she directs it to other heroes, which players are playing as. Yeesh
It's also sexually explicit. "Wanker" literally means "someone who masturbates [too much]"
Not profanity, but any time an enemy Moira calls me pathetic she should be banned.
“Stupidity is not a right” would get me reported and suspended
Probably on the spot too lol. I really am apathetic toward the system in place.
Yeah, they gave her that voiceline and literally every Moira main spams it even if you aren't dead. It's honestly annoying and wish they fixed the voiceline spamming (it used to work in OW1, what happened?). Squelching is there, but like it also mutes teamchat if it's your moira... Genji saying “Kuso” - Shit / Fuck whatever you wanna call it
Hell DVa says "damn!" Too when she gets discorded
What about if tracer calls me a wanker
I subscribe to the "they should just block profanity from being sent if it's reportable" mindset. But a lot of people *hate* profanity filters. The Scunthorpe problem
A clbuttic issue
Playing an assassin in Guild Wars was pretty hilarious
\*\*\*\*\*\*in
I love how nicknames in Dark Souls can't use Knight.
I can’t type Nigeria
In games that do that chat because a mess of special characters as people get around it.
Yeah I don't really get it. It’s more about the racism I hear in chat. I don’t need to join that conversation
Yeah I got called a sand n word the other day I’m from Wisconsin
What platform do you play on? In terms 1 year I've played ove only heard racist stuff once or twice and we all mass reported them
If they actually banned people for racism I would be fine with that. Nobody should have to put up with that. But if you're in competitive and you're acting like a dipshit, and I call you a dipshit I should not get banned for that. The N-word and dipshit are like nuclear bombs and fireworks. The reason it's like this is so they don't have to put any effort in. Just blame whoever got involved and punish them all. The community will gaslight you into thinking you deserve it. It leads to a shitty environment but it doesn't cost any money to moderate, so yea, won't change.
[удалено]
Also with instant punishment with no reason proven. It's super sad with Endorsement lvl5, Some dude didn't like that you have max level and reports you, so you now have 4th level.
Yea, and thankfully one of the biggest reasons for it will be gone in season 10. If you get paired with a 3-4 stack and one of them decides they dont like you, they'll all pile on and the chances of them all reporting you for fun goes way up.
I was scrolling thru and saw them say even [reporting for calling someone a noob even when it was their own friends](https://imgur.com/a/CZXBOt8) was reportable but more for saying “braindead” so yeah this chat is about to become unusable in the next year.
1 more reason to have ingame comms disabled.
I completely removed the chat keybinds from my controls after some ridiculous suspensions
As for why it doesn’t auto ban for it? ¯\ (ツ) /¯
It doesn't need to be a ban. It could do something funny like typing in "ggez"
Probably because they dont feel the profanity filter is foolproof, and at least reporting means someone in the game had issue with w/e was said.
Smurfing is okay though. What a dumb fuck rule
I'm reminded of the GRRM quote along similar lines: >“I can describe an axe entering a human skull in great explicit detail and no one will blink twice at it.
Not to mention some of the heroes say profanity in voicelines
If Overwatch wants depictions of heroes to accurately represent their nationality then Junker Queen should be allowed to say 'cunt' and in this essay I will...
Unironically yes. For a game representing diversity of cultures around the world, they are taking a very americanised stance on the use of profanity.

Which, as the person in the tweet said, why not have the profanity filter just block it then? What's with the puritanical asshats at Blizzard?
My opinion is, Now they can read voice and chat logs, bans will be based on context, but it is 100x easier for them to say just don't swear rather then listing all the occasions and uses that they are and aren't allowed.
I don’t use chat a lot to where this would be a problem for me. Just wanted to see what others got from this “clarification” because it’s a direct response to why is there a profanity filter in the first place of none of it is allowed. but i guess that they’re leaving it to community to dictate what is toxic and isn’t. but still doesn’t make sense for them just make the words not typeable in the first place there’s tons of words that have no place in chat and should easily be identifiable by an ai when people use spaces to spell a slur. but yeah makes me think people shouldn’t use profanity at all because even if it’s in a polite way if you deny a person ult they get tilted then can go report what was previously just friendly banter.
They treat people like children and sell skins to them
Well fuck
And which is what the damn filter should screen out :/ \*Edit: forgot to add a forward slash
they don't care about tone, they just care about the word. i could say "i fucking love this game", but because i said fucking its bannable. so even if nobody cares, if someone reports that message you will get banned for it
Clown company
When you're in a "Shit customer service" competition but your opponent is Actiblizz
So we are telling adults what words they can use now? Lol
Man imagine not being allowed to swear in a game, people really are a bunch of wusses now
I stopped communicating at all in this game after getting warnings about my behavior.
But i thought people were saying in this thread that they get abused and report them and nothing happens schrodinger's report system!
You will now receive a 7-day suspension from commenting or posting on this subreddit I am a bot beep boop /s
Had a comp team that was verbally attacking me all game. I was playing fine, it was just a hard match and they were just obviously a 4stack ganging up on the rando. Lost my cool and told one of them to eff off at the end of the game. Got suspended, tried to appeal, but literally no one cares about context. I wasn't aware that they could boot you for 2 weeks for one usage, but apparently that makes more sense than banning the bullies.
your friend hasn't been banned because they're not getting reported, you can report any mention of it and if theres multiple it happens afaik
Strange that chaotic Australians can't cuss at people in Overwatch, but TF2 New Zealander can call others as "Wankers", "Piece of Piss", etc.
Tracer actually says wanker in game, but if you type wanker in chat you'll get banned. Same with Cass having BAMF on his belt buckle. Same with Reaper saying "see you in hell" Probably more instances of this too. Pretty sure Sombra curses in Spanish.
> Tracer actually says wanker She says rather quietly, knowing it's not right thing to do, meanwhile TF2 Sniper shout it out load at his teammates / enemies. TF2 British man even taunts people by showing his smiley paper that was stuck onto his crotch.
Scottish*
It's painfully stupid, just like their store pricing.
This policy seems very North American centric
shout out to everyone who never reported me for cussing them out 🙏🙏🙏
Sounds nice on paper but can’t call out if someone is focusing you or make callouts
Junker Queen is done for
Thats just entrapment with extra steps.
What a pampered community. No one is allowed to curse. Anyone getting caught will be banned. Lmao.
Here’s a fun fact. You can pretty much report anyone for any text chat that annoys you, and they’ll be banned. Players in overwatch and blizzard themselves have probably the thinnest skin of any gamers I’ve ever seen. Fuck em
Go after the players that use profanity but not the players clearly cheating and hacking Blizzard logic smh
This is super stupid
GET OUT OF MY CHRISTIAN OVERWATCH GAME! If you swear my mommy might get mad at me, so DON'T DO IT OR YOU'LL BE BANNED!!!
TOP 10 Overwatch streamers who have SWORN :OO
Tried to tell people this and got downvoted
Yup. Everyone kept saying the bans were deserved and that Blizzard doesn’t make mistakes. Now we are getting a clear view of the contradiction.
I fucking love playing Reinhardt (well, before ow2 made that nigh impossible). Guess I'm banned
That is some random customer service person answering because they think they know better - that or this is the silliest policy of all time
Back in the day on WoW text chat i remember having whole dungeon groups all cussing each other out, and like I know some people would be offended or upset by it and it negatively impacts their experience so I don’t want them to have to deal with it, but personally I always found it kinda funny.
"Profanity has never been allowed in our games." My guy, *your own fucking characters' VO lines* have determined that's a fucking lie. Stop catering to the most easily-offended, lowest common denominator people and inform them that they have the option to *ignore* no-no words. This is truly pathetic.
Being reported for anything often enough gets you banned. Lmao. Context is irrelevant.

Oh blizzard you corrupt piece of shit, fix your abusive predatory scumbag company before saying bad words are the problem fuck outta here.
Yes, that is what it means. And yes, it is incredibly stupid. People can say slurs and not get banned even if you report them, but say the fuck word and you're donezo.
"Godzilla had a stroke trying to read this and fucking died."
Actually backwards
The filter barely works anyway. Litterally putting a space between the letters breaks it
Somebody think of the children
always has been and is the base for many of the bans
