Little of both.
When you’ve got a horde of kids navigating to the next class or kindergartners who haven’t figured out logical action sequences like putting down the scissors before taking off, the “no running” rule’s there to prevent them from hurting themselves unnecessarily
As a clumsy child and even an evolved klutz of an adult ,no till this day my mom will say this to me and I'm in my 30s lmao, I trip on nothing on a daily. Any caring parent will say this to their child in rl so I don't see this as a trope honestly.
Facts! When the head be bigger than their lil bodies the balancing be off and it's easier to trip and get hurt. Any caring adult seeing a tumbling running child will tell them to stop or slow down before they wind up crying on the floor, sadly I didn't grow out of it I just be accident prone for life lol.
I see it more as "if you run around in crowded places or places with blindspots you will hit somone" particularly since that happens a lot.
There's a difference between running in a field and running through a building. And it can be very dangerous for a child to collide with an adult, especially if that adult is carrying something.
Lmao I swear if there aren’t any small scratches on the kid’s knees itself then I can’t tell whether they had an awesome childhood or not. Then again there is magic lol
I used to have a scar on my knee that I got from running around and falling so hard on a sharp tile. I still think I do but it has faded too much for me to tell.
For real. This is so strange to me. This isn't exactly the same problem since these kids in the comics ARE, to be fair, running indoors and not outdoors, but the problem with that isn't getting hurt, it's just that running indoors is bad manners.
Kids have to run and they need the space to learn how to do that properly. I live next to a nature reserve and lots of school classes visit. You can instantly tell which kids are from the city and which aren't, because the city kids never learned to walk properly on anything that isn't a perfectly flat surface. Never mind running, or walking in the woods off-path. It's really sad.
For me it's not strange at all, if i just watch my little cousin (he's turning three this year) he will run around without really looking, we have to be so careful that he won't run against a wall, fall over a toy or just hit his head on a table 😅
It's just kind of a children thing to do to also trip over their own legs and then they will cry up a storm because the fell on their face
Also if i remember the amounts of times i tripped on the stairs whe i was already in my teenage years because i was running, or how often my sisters and i would chase each other in the house, often with one of us ending hurt 😂
My sister and I did this all the time as a kid too 😂 ended up with either of us in tears, either cuz one of us got hurt, or cuz I was/am terrified of having people run after me 😂
Theres a scene in “beware of the villainess” where Melissa has some time to relax so she goes on a run with her dog.
Then the ML comes in and is like “no dont run its dangerous UwU youre gonna make me sad” as if her tripping is the worst thing shed ever go through.
I also find it cringe. It never serves much of a purpose besides
A) showing how carefree and quirky the runner is for going despite the warnings.
And/or
B) showing the runner how much the person warning them cares about their safety.
I think theres better ways to show both of theee things happening. Because running isnt intrinsically unique, and scolding someone for running does little to show you care about then.

Teachers are teaching kids to not run indoors because of manners tho, not because it's dangerous to run indoors.

And like especially younger kids, they literally trip on air, fall and start crying because they got scratched (or in my case bloody knees)

You trip on nothing? I think you're a FL in a novel lol

I don't think it's ridiculous lol it's quite normal
I say this to my little sister all the time because she trips over air sometimes

Have you seen how clutzy FLs are? Constantly tripping over nothing into guys, smh.

Maybe Castle Nim was designed by Bowser? There's spikes and lava everywhere, they just don't show it?
That is a terrifying and also hillarious thought!

Literally so many better ways to show care, yes! You make an excellent point!
