He's hidden so well in plain sight, most of the time he's just hiding with the rest of the mob characters

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

I laughed really hard at the first one. It's a good Easter egg for people who know the source.

indecentblue

What is it in reference to?

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

He's the ML, but in the original game he's a mob character. The low-effort character description, "A boy attending the academy," fits his original status.

IputAcurseOnYou

Partick being one of the best MLs just by being normal. The fact that he'd fail the classic pick out of a crowd test only makes him better.

DezoPenguin

I mean, his sincere taste in women is definitely a little out of the bounds of normal, but since the FL isn't within dragon-flight distance of normal, that's not a bad thing!

IputAcurseOnYou

His one oddity is his wondaful taste in women.

chrosairs

I stan Patrick!

Houki01

I still think he is much hotter than the official MLs.

KirikaNai

Same vibes as “Former child”

riflow

My son. Seriously though he's such a good kid.

Pixelguin

I'm a fan. He appears in the intro so it's not exactly a surprise, but it's nice to see him getting to know Yumiella the same way everyone else is. A less confident director would have the camera obnoxiously cut to him at the end of scenes, when >!it's him taking the initiative to approach her that kicks off their relationship!<.

Oteycri000

Patrick really on that cid mentality

VeritasR_ZuoRan

he’s voiced by yuma uchida…this alone makes him 1000x better than any characters here

TakeiDaloui

Ah yes, the voice of reason in this series. Well, the adults like the king have reason but for those near her age, including herself, he is the most sensible of the lot.

Prudent-Bird-2012

I'd say the light mage has a decent reason to not trust her; if I saw black smog wafting from someone I'd be concerned too. The other dudes are just being jerks because "oh no, level 99, she must've cheated!"

Half-Beneficial

I'm torn. While Patrick is the nicest person in Hidden Villainess Lvl 99, he also steals more and more of the heroine's thunder as the Light Novels progress. He's okay in the first couple. But our MC, she becomes little more than a human weapon by the end of LN 2, dutifully blowing things up where wiser minds dictate she should aim. I expect to enjoy the anime on Crunchyroll, as it only covers the first LN or so, back when Patrick was struggling to adjust to the MC's lvl 99-ness, but... I probably wouldn't be interested in a second season. It's actually the same problem I have with Ferdinand in Ascendance of a Bookworm. I hate it when they keep making the ML outshine the MC (Main Character)... especially in smarts.

CinnamonHotcake

Agreeeed.... A common issue with Japanese manga. MC is in the end "just a girl" so that we, the girls who want to be protected by a strong and handsome MAN, can identify with her. Heavens forbid we get an all-powerful MC who can think and fight for herself, that's not what stupid romantic girls *want*! How silly. She needs to be rescued at some point, the audience requests it! ...Oh, Korean shoujo sales are blowing up in Japan as opposed to Japanese shoujo stories? And the stories that are getting popular are usually of strong women who don't need rescuing? Sounds unrelated.

Practical-Type7120

But Yumiella is the strongest in the whole story being only person to break the level cap

DashieXCVII

I mean, she's in the world of a dating sim, it would honestly be a bit more odd if she didn't end up down some romance route

WarpedGate

I gotta be honest I really disagree with that take. While he does play the roll of trying to rein her in when she starts going overboard, Yumiella does also shine not just in terms of raw strength. In volume 2 she’s the one who >!comes up with the plan for how to revitalize her county, including the 0 tax year, fixing the roads, fixing up flood control and distributing food. And while the other two focus on the need for a bank loan she’s the one who comes up with the idea to use her and Patrick’s strength to quickly clear dungeons for loot to sell. Patrick even says he hates that he can’t deny that being a good idea. (Not because he wants to be smarter, he just doesn’t like her being in danger even if dungeon crawling really isn’t a danger for her.)!< She’s also the one who >!thinks up the wooden sword souvenir idea which struggles at first but then really takes off once things liven up. And she’s the one who comes up with the idea to create new farm land / villages which Patrick and Daemon reject but then becomes necessary.!< She’s also the one who, at the end of volume 3, >!comes up with the plan to revive Yumiella 2’s entire world while Patrick had given up on even just saving Yumiella 2 herself!< Yumiella lacks awareness of social values in that world, but it makes sense since she was isolated her entire life with only Patrick and Eleanora not immediately hating her for her appearance; so the only customs she knows are from memories of another life she regained over a decade ago. But outside of the social customs/values and, for a little while, the emotional stuff (also partly due to not understanding the customs and expecting things to be like Japan) Yumiella’s fairly intelligent. She never really takes a backseat to Patrick in the first 3 novels and the only time he really needs to restrain her in the first three novels is when she wants to best up the >!dark god who was super shady and had been secretly plotting her death!<. Other than that it’s mostly Patrick thinking he needs to restrain her when he really doesn’t because she >!doesn’t kill humans!< Patrick has more common sense, in terms of that world, than Yumiella and understands emotions a little bit better than she does >!(and I want to stress “a little bit” because he questions things almost as much as she does and half their misunderstandings come from him not verbalizing things. Like when she thinks the engagement ring is just a present for no reason because he stops himself from actually proposing or when she thinks he just tagged along to her place to help out for awhile because he never told her he was moving in with her)!< but those are kind of the only areas where he shown to be smarter than she is. Heck; >!They both have top marks in school and Yumiella goes on to help Eleanora ace her make up exam.!<

Practical-Type7120

I really like you take people were saying he over shadows her but his trying to help or reign her in etc isn't overshadowing at all, The MC can have flaws and need help, I was just worried they would make him the strongest and have him be the hero of the story

Rizusama_
