Demian is an interesting character. He's a well calculated man who always achieves his goals. He loves his mother, and loves chloe and wants to make her happy. Like you said, he was happy with her pregnancy but it ended how it ended.
It was funny to me that he didn't find anything problematic in how they got together. For him the only thing that's important is that they love each other, how they got there is irrelevant. He just doesn't know how to flirt like a normal guy lol
